Installation NI488 v2.3 driver onSolaris 9 problem

Some computer archeology:
SPARCstation 20 + NI Sbus card (pre TNT) (all this hardware is over 10 years old!)
Installed Solaris 9
Installed NI488.2 v2.2 (only have PCI-GPIB, so installed driver, but couldn't attach)
Installed NI488.2 v2.3 upgrade - this handles NI-GPIB,SBus, but still attach fails.
The pkgadd reports installion complete.
Eg: devfsadm -i ib reports "driver failed to attach: ib"
prtconf -D looks good: NI,GPIB-SBus (driver name: ib)
Could it be something in /etc/ibrc upsetting the ib driver?
If I don't get this to work, then I downgrade to Sun4.1.3 - which I know works (but is dumb!)
Thanks!

I'm not quite sure, but the ATI Xpress 1250 may have been dropped from the driver support list. AMD/ATI changed a few things there back one month or so.
Apart from this you should not try the driver from amd but test this one from aur:  http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25105
Thank you!!
That was exactly what I wanted to know!
I was using the catalyst 9.4 drivers in the AUR and was searching for the legacy drivers from the AUR.
Thanks again! Will try and post the results.

  • ITunes installation error - no C-drive, invalid C-drive, or specified path too long

This is an answer rather than a question as answer to a previous question seemed unresolved and I had similar problem which I have resolved. I thought posting it might help others...
My OS System disk wasn't set as the C-drive (how or why I'm not sure, but I have several OS installations and 2 hard-drives and must be a result of the way I installed these). And so I had no C-drive at all (except when I plugged in USB Pen's they would appear as C-drive).
iTunes wouldn't let me install unless I had a C-drive - probably said I had an invalid C-drive or something. So I tried creating a virtual C-drive by mapping the C: drive letter to a new empty folder on my system disk (G-drive) to "C:". See - http://ask-leo.com/i_have_no_c_drive_but_some_programs_insist_on_it_what_can_i_d o.html
This DIDN'T resolve the problem as it merely created a different error message - it said: "The specified path is too long C:\Program Files" NB This is despite me telling it to install iTunes to the G-drive.
Solution: I removed the virtual C-drive (ie. mapping of "C:"  to the new folder) and instead in My Computer -> Manage -> Storage -> Disk Management, I assigned the C: drive letter to a drive partition I use for storing media (I plan to name it back else several programms will fail to store media correctly). I also moved the iTunes.exe installation file to that C: partition in case that helped. Installation (still told to be the G-drive) was now successful.
What I noticed is iTunes created the following path - C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.0_02\lib\ext - and dumped this file there: QTJava.zip Looks suspiciously like an install file for the bundled (and required) updated Quick Time, which it obviously requires to be dumped on a C-drive. Once installed I doubt that file will still be needed, so I'll delete it after I restart (it won't let me at the mo).
If you don't have extra partitions that you can assign C-drive to, then you could either try Adding (rather than changing) the C: drive letter to your current System disk. IN FACT I'M THINKING THAT'D BE THE BEST THING TO DO ANYWAY as then all programmes will use the correct system disk regardless of whether they think they should be using G: or C: (though I've not tried it, so can't be sure this works). Alternatively I reckon you could connect a USB stick and assign C-drive to that (if it isn't in fact automatically assigned it). Allow it to dump the QTJava.zip file on to it and once installed, you can remove the USB Stick - NB I'd suggest using the Safe Removal. (Well, might be worth restarting first in case it is referencing anything on it that isn't finished until restart.)
Hope this helps someone as was driving me potty coz I couldn't update my iTunes and thus couldn't sync my iPhone!

    Hi AltafB,
For your situation, you can short the path for the source code. Or use a short path for build agent folder in your build definition. You can refer to the links below to solve your problem:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/aaronhallberg/archive/2007/06/20/team-build-and-260-character-paths.aspx

Besides, since you deploy Orchard to Azure, you can also publish it directly using publish profile in Visual Stduio or WebMatrix directly.

  • Dead hard drive or software problem

    Hello Everyone!!
I recently picked used 600 Mhz iMac
It came with 10.3 installed, wanted to install 10.2.8 and the computer crashed when I started off the 9.1 install CD
After the crash, the computer would not start up off the hard drive, and I've tried several different installation CD's (including a 10.3 installer) and the hard drive does not even show up in the Disc Utility.
My first thought maybe my hard drive is dead, but the more I think about it the more I think that it must be some sort of software problem (i.e. data corruption on the drive or something). I mean, I don't believe it's even possible that a computer crash could kill a hard drive!
    But from there, I'm lost!
I've reset the PRAM, and that didn't work. The only other thing I can think of is something like Norton Utilities.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Best Regards,
    Bryan

    Bryan,Welcome to Discussions.
If the hard disk isn't showing in Disk Utility I would suspect the drive is dead or not connected properly - given it's age probably the former - although if's the machines been movede around a bit you could crack the case and check all the connections. Whilst I agree that a crash shouldn't kill a hard disk - a hard disk dying would cause a crash.
I, any many other's here, would counsel against using Norton on an OS X machine - Norton doesn't know and understand OS X structures and can cause serious issues.
Probably time for a new HDD.

It just stops there and won't continue to boot. Disconnecting the SATA cable from my CD drive and using a flash drive to boot fixes these issues, but I didn't continue with the install because I wasn't sure if I would be unable to boot with the drive plugged in later. This is my CD drive. It's connected to a SATA 6GB/s port on my motherboard. The drive works perfectly in Windows.
Also, if anyone knows anything about the USB error, help would be appreciated. That was the only error that did not go away after disconnecting my CD drive. I only have a keyboard, mouse, and WiFi dongle plugged in.

Your issue with the SATA disc drive is a problem with Udev. Namely that some SATA disc drives do not support 16-byte pass-through commands coming from Udev. See this post for a longer explanation and the correct workaround:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=895404
Other guides online will say to comment out parts of Udev's 60-persistent-storage.rules file, but I have found that to not only not work, but mess up detection of the SATA hard drives.
So, after, or during, Arch installation using your USB stick:
    Add
    options libata atapi_passthru16=0
    to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    Add
    FILES="/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf"
    to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    Rebuild kernel image with:
    mkinitcpio -p linux
    reboot
To narrow down your USB issue, maybe you could try booting with only one plugged in at a time to identify which one has the issue. Do they all three work even though one gives this message?

When I try to install ios lion the installer says my hard drive has SMART errors and that I need to buy a new Hard Drive, but my computer witch has snowleprd and runs just fine.

SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

  • Tiger 10.4.3 Installer Cannot Find Destination Drive

I am trying to upgrade[finally] from 10.2.8 to 10.4.3 using the installer disc, but it cannot find my hard drive for it to install. I have run a repair[ Disk & Permissions] using Disk Utility, everythings fine. Have run an Apple Hardware check and again eveything fine. Through System Preferences/Startup Disk It sees my disc no problem and everything is running smoothly and quickly, so I'm a bit worried why the installer disc is unable to see my hard drive.
Any help with this would be much appreciated, Sorry if this query has been answered elsewhere, I had a good look before I added this entry and couldn't find an answer.
    Thanks for your time.
Power Mac G4 Quicksilver[Mirrored Drive Doors]   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Had a go but the DVD's Disk Utility simply couldn't see my hard drive went on the System Profiler off the installer disc and again the only disc it could see was the DVD itself, No other ATA drive or Serial ATA drive. Rebooted the computer as normal and the system profiler saw the hard drive with no problem. I unplugged all peripheral hardware like DVD Burner, Scanner and Printer, and my Firmware is all up to date as your checklist suggested too.
Was wondering, my hard drive has it's jumper set to "Enable cable select", When starting from the Installer disc does that cause a conflict about which disc is master and results in the disc not being seen?
(Sorry if this is a silly suggestion, it doesn't take long for this technical stuff to baffle me, as you can tell)
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Macbook shuts off during start-up - can't get through safe-mode, single user mode (fsck -fy) and target-drive shows no problems when running disk utility repair

    Hi everyone,
I'm simply all out of ideas on what to do - my best guess is the problem is not specifically hard-drive related since all the 'normal' fixes just won't work.
What could be the cause of my issue? The only way i've managed to keep the Macbook Pro on for longer than a minute is through target drive, where it seems to work just fine - i can access everything. To sum up everything:
    1 - I tried resetting the PRAM
2 - I tried to go in to safe mode, it shut off before i could type the password
3 - I tried fsck -fy command from single user mode, sometimes i can get to actually typing it but mostly it shuts off before
4 - I tried to repair disk via target drive - success, no problems detected (and it didnt fix my issue)
    5 - I reinstalled OS Mavericks.
The Macbook Pro previously had some problems with the power-button not working properly (a mac-cunning friend of mine had to open up the mac and start it by swiping to metal pins on a specific (battery/power?) part inside it. The problem kinda went away afterwards but it might be related to this?
This is way off my comfort zone of 'diagnosing' issues, so I'm crossing fingers for some good advice.
    Thanks,
    Aske
    Denmark

    I think you're right.
If it's hardware related, is it possible to guess at what it might be? It would be nice to know how much I should expect to pay for a repair before actually getting it fixed.

  • Installation of Nokia Cable Driver (USB) fails und...

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2. I have installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.30.8, and I want to connect a Nokia E65 via USB cable CA-53.
The installation of the software works well except the installation of the cable driver. I do always get an error message "Error when loading nsesetup.dll - nsesetup.dll is not a valid Win32 application":
    During the installation of PC-Suite (however continous and finishes;
    When trying to de-install the existing "Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver (2,91 MB)" - I have no idea where this entry comes from, whether it's an older installation or newly created -, de-installation fails also;
When trying to install the separately downloaded Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver software.
When I am trying to connect my E65 via USB afterwards (ignoring the error messgaes during installation), Vista is searching for drivers. I'll then get an error message "Have found drivers, but there is an error during installation: Nokia E65 USB Phone Parent - Driver is not intended for this platform."
Note: I have rebooted the PC after installation.
Looking in the device driver list, I have an unknown device at "Port_#0001.Hub_#0002" and the error message "Driver not installed for this device (Code 28) - Driver not intended for this platform." Driver details are "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ccdcmb.sys, C:\Windows\System32\nmwcdcocls.dll and C:\Windows\System32\wdfcoinstaller01007.dll". I have then tried to re-install drivers being in the device driver window and choosen "from local PC". I have specified the Programs/Nokia directory, where are both PC-Suite and Cable Driver subdirectries. I'll then get the same error message "Have found drivers, but there is an error during installation: Nokia E65 USB Phone Parent - Driver is not intended for this platform."
I am giving up now - can't de-install the shown driver in "Programs & Functions" due to this nsesetup.dll error message, I can't install the new drivers, neither from PC-Suite or directly. Grateful if somebody knows a solution.
Note: I am running german versions, that's why I've translated the error messages - might not be 100% identical with the original english error messages. Thanks for any reply in advance, Frank

Hi,I did everything you've recommended, but with the same result. No connection possible because no driver can be installed. In detail:
    De-installed every Nokia Software and also ran PC Suite Cleaner from Nokia, got "successful" messages;
Unfortunately I still can't can't de-install the shown driver in "Programs & Functions" due to the mentioned nsesetup.dll error message (RunDLL: "Error when loading nsesetup.dll - nsesetup.dll is not a valid Win32 application").
Then I did the same as described initially, installed PC-Suite latest version (and got the driver error) and rebooted - this time did not install Cable Driver separatelybecause they're included in PC-Suite -, connected my E65 to another USB port (now at the rear side of my PC) and Windows driver installation failed. No phone is recognized when starting PC-Suite.
I have attached the PC Suite Cleaner log file.

How is your external drive formatted? Use Disk Utility to check the volume format. If it is NTFS, you will need to reformat the HDD as exFAT in order to retain universal compatibility (RW to it on both Mac and Windows).

    help from italian forum.
I've an external USB HD where i put all my songs, the
main notebook HD is too small...
So, i charge music inside the main Itunes libray
called "Music" but the the real files are still on my
    external HD drive.
The problem is when i try to add a song or a folder
and i don't connect the HD ext. drive to the
    notebook...
The shuffle erase everything.....but the title of the
songs are still in the library...
    Why??? Thx for all..
The real files have to be available to iTunes (the USB HD has to be connected) otherwise Shuffle will "update" by erasing them. That's the way it is...

  • External Drive and Vista problems

I recently got an external drive with the intentions of keeping my iTunes library on it. So far I have had nothing but problems. In the advance prefs. I set the music folder location to my external drive. To test it, I would rip a CD to iTunes (which is installed on the C drive). Sure enough, the library would be in the folder that I designated it in the ex. drive. My problem is that when I open iTunes, it creates a folder under Music on the C drive which contains the library with the ripped CD. Whats the point of putting it on an ex. drive if it automatically puts it in a folder on my computer? Its frustrating because I set the path of the library to my ex. drive. Why is it also putting a copy of the library on my computer under a music folder? Is it a "Vista" thing or an iTunes problem? I need to get this sorted out because I would eventually like to put my whole library (backed up onto discs) into the library only on my external drive before I purchase a new iPod soon. I dont want any music on my C drive because I need the space.

You know what? I figured this out myself the next day with a solution that I haven't seen anywhere else. I understood all the operations of consolidating libraries to seperate drives, but what was creating the problem was vista's fantastic ability to stick anything ripped into the owner/music folder despite where the library path is pointed. The answer was so obvious and simple. I went into the advanced prefs. and changed the library path back to the default owner/music folder. Then I right clicked the owner/music short cut in the start menu, selected properties and made the whole "my music" folder located on the external drive. Now when I plug in my external drive and open windows, the library is pulled from the music folder on the external drive and runs like normal. When I remove the drive and open iTunes, it gives me an error that the library cant be found. When I right click properties on the music icon in the start menu, it says it takes up zero bytes, which is exactly what I want. Its funny how I utilized the problem to get what I wanted.

  • External USB Hard Drive causes menu problem - menu items flash

    Greetings:
I have a external USB hard drive (250 GB) that is partitioned into 3 hard drives. Two hard drives are formatted in MacOS standard and one is formatted in MacOS extended. I had to reformat the last drive in MacOS extended because the Macbook would not let me edit files on the drive.
The problem is that when I connect to the drives, the menu malfunctions (I cannot see the date and time and the menu items flash). Dismounting the drives solves the problem.
Do I need to reformat the hard drives? Or do I need a new USB drive?
    Thank you.
    EA

Hmm, someone else had a similar problem.  Note the ":: Loading root filesystem module...-e" line.  That "-e" shouldn't be there.  It should be, instead, the module for the filesystem.
As a workaround for right now, you can add your filesystem module to the MODULES array, and remove the "filesystems" hook.
In that case, you'll probably want rootdelay=* to allow the drive some time to settle, and rootfstype=* to speed up filesystem detection while in kinit.
By the way, what filesystem do you have on that machine?  Can you tell me what
    /usr/lib/klibc/bin/fstype < /dev/sda1
outputs on a running system (you may need to be root, or add yourself to the "disk" group or something similar) - /dev/sda1 should be replaced if the usb drive is not sda1
