have a look at: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-379.html
(I've found this using a tool called 'google')
using custom compiled rpm's breaks support (just in case you want to run some production database or application server on it, and don't want to be fired if somethings falls over and it turns out you made it unsupported).
just to be curious: why do you want to compile it yourself?i installed OEL 5.4 b4.problem is that i have something wrong there:
1)one of them is,it did not detect one of my NIC.
2)its does not response to my graphics card well.
2)in my laptop i found its not working that well.its shutting down the system but not turning off the laptop.
3)another one is its not detect USB nics.
etc.
so i am thinking it to build from source.so that i can have it with my own.

    Hi,
I just checked this on apex.oracle.com and can see both the 'Error Handling' 'sub tab' and the relevant region on the page with attributes for 'In-Line Error Notification Text' and 'Error Handling Function'. This is on the 'Edit Page' page in the builder (4000:4301). Is this the page you are on and are you still not able to see this?

  • Installing Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 fails on Oracle Linux 5.6 and 6.0

    Hi all,
We are in the process of building our new enterprise environment and tried to install the following:
    Oracle Linux 6.0
    Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2
    ASM
    OCFS2
    Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2
Installation of Grid Infrastructure failed on Oracle Linux 6.0 and 5.6 as well. Is it because it's not yet certified for these Oracle Linux versions? Where can we find compatibility matrixes or certification information to find out which versions do work together? Been trying to find them with no success.
    Thanks for any help!

    Dude wrote:
I have recently installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 including ASM, which also installs Grid infrastructure under Oracle Linux 5.6 (default UEK kernel) without any problems. I installed the oracle-validated package prior to the Oracle installation.OEL 5.6 and 11.2..02 Grid Infrastructure installation (for x86_64) failed in our case. Have opened a SR several weeks ago for it, but no resolution. We since reverted back to OEL 5.5 for building and running this specific RAC.
There's also errors in OEL 5.6's Infiniband s/w stack. The openibd service fails to apply errata correctly because the o/s command used has since changed command line parameters. My guess is that testing happened solely on new h/w where this errata did not have to be applied, thus were not tested. Also, this service failed to start the srp_daemon (is critical for making sure that the storage layer works each and every time and does not cause stale connections that lead to command rejections from the storage server after a reboot of a RAC node)
I not only had to fix the openibd service to correctly apply the errata, but also write a separate srpd service that dealt with starting up and shutting down the srp_daemon.
Not very impressed with OEL 5.6 at all and it will be unlikely that we'll use it. And it raises a lot of concern whether OEL 6 would be a robust enough o/s for running our RAC systems.

  • Weird siebel 8.0 console mode installation problem on OEL 4

    Hi There,
When I tried to install Siebel 8.0 SIA build on Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL 4), I encountered a weird problem. It is a sandbox for QA to do testing, everything is on the same machine: oracle database 10.2.0.3, gateway, siebel server and SWSE. I installed oracle database, and make sure the database connection is fine, then I did the following :
    1) run install by command "./setuplinux -is:javaconsole -console", it compeleted fine.
    2) go to gateway directory, source cfgenv.sh
    3) run "ssincfgw -is:javaconsole -console" to do gateway server, enterprise and SWSE logical profile configuration. Gateway configuration is fine, gateway started up successfully. But during enterprise configuration, it throws out a bunch of error messages like :
    Error creating Parameter:MaxEntrTasks for Comp:TxnProc in CompGroup:Remote
Strict Flag set to FALSE, continuing with the next Object...
    Error creating Parameter:MaxEntrTasks for Comp:RepAgent in CompGroup:Remote
Strict Flag set to FALSE, continuing with the next Object...
    Error creating Component:MsgBroadcastMgr in CompGroup:CommMgmt
Strict Flag set to FALSE, continuing with the next Object...
SBL-ADM-02071: Enterprise server siebel not found in gateway server
But at the end, it still shows "Execution Successful!"
The SWSE logical profile configuration went through fine
    4) go to siebel server directory and source cfgenv.sh
    5) launch the ssincfgw in siebsrvr/bin directory to config siebel server, it also throws a bunch of error messages like:
    Error creating Parameter:AllowAnonUsers for Comp:SMObjMgr_enu in CompGroup:MktgOM
Strict Flag set to FALSE, continuing with the next Object...
    Error creating Parameter:AllowAnonUsers for Comp:eMarketObjMgr_enu in CompGroup:MktgOM
Strict Flag set to FALSE, continuing with the next Object...
    Error creating Parameter:AllowAnonUsers for Comp:eEventsObjMgr_enu in CompGroup:MktgOM
Strict Flag set to FALSE, continuing with the next Object...
But again, at the end it still shows "Execution Successful!".
    6) go to siebsrvr directory, source siebenv.sh
    7) Launch srvrmgr in command line mode:
    srvrmgr /g $GATEWAY /e $SIEBEL_ENTERPRISE /u $USERNAME /p $PASSWD
and it shows "connected to 0 server"
In the SiebSrvr.log file, it shows " SBL-SCC-00025: No value found in the Gateway. Default value in the repository is used."
In the sw_cfg_util.log file, it shows "SBL-SVR-03005: No server connect string for Siebel Component servermgr in Siebel Enterprise siebel, Siebel Server sdc60002sems".
The weirdest part is, if I clean up and uninstall everything, run the install and configure in GUI mode, give the same parameters, I don't get any error messages and siebel server can be up and running fine.
I searched the forum and found people have reported the same error message during enterprise configuration, but says it does not affect them from bring up the siebel server. Since I'm developing an automation to do the installation, I cannot use GUI mode to install. I have to make the command line console mode work and then record the response file for silent install. Does anyone know what might cause my siebel server fail to be up and running ? Thanks a lot for any suggestions and helps.

    hi,
Make sure that your network uses DNS naming.
This error occurs when a machine is not correctly configured to use DNS naming. The default fully qualified host and domain name presented during installation is not correct.
To successfully install, you need to provide a fully qualified domain name that consists of a local host name along with its domain name.
for example yoursystem is a host name and yourdomain.com is a fully qualified domain name.

  • Configuration issue with OPS Center installation on OEL 5 update 5

    Hi,
I have installed OPS Center 11g on an OEL 5 update 5. All prereqs, i think, is met and installation gives no warnings or errors.
When I try to access the web page to run the configuration wizard. It hangs with the "LOADING" message, after logon. And nothing more happens.
In the bottom left corner of the browser i have the DONE message. But an error behind.

    Hello Kai,
I am not sure to completely understand your logs since they don't seem to be written in English but
could it be that you are using Firefox 4.0 ? ( only firefox 2 and 3 and IE 7 and 8 are supported ).
Also, do you have enough free RAM ( 1-2 GB ) on the browser's machine ?
Lastly, you can check the prerequisites with
    /var/opt/sun/xvm/OCDoctor/OCDoctor.sh ec-prereq force
    /var/opt/sun/xvm/OCDoctor/OCDoctor.sh --troubleshoot
    Cheers

  • Error while installation 9.2.4 on OEL -5 ..Urgent help required...

    Hi Friends,
I am in the process of installation oracle 9i on OEL 5. I have sucessfully installed the software 9.2.4 but I am getting error while creating the database with dbca. I have installed all the libraries which were required for successful installation.
While starting the dbca I am getting the following error. I have tried all the options which are available on google/ open forms. I also applied the patch p3006854_9204_LINUX.zip but still I am getting the error. I know I may be missing something. Any expert can help me out please ?
    [ oracle@datadayal bin ]$ ./dbca
/home/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/../lib/i686/green_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so)
Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread
    Could not create Java VM
    [oracle@datadayal bin]$
    Could not create Java VM
    [ oracle@datadayal bin ]$ export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19
    [ oracle@datadayal bin ]$ ./dbca
/bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    [ oracle@datadayal bin ]$
A Big thanks for your time and help.

As mentioned already, OEL 5 is pretty new as compared to the 9i version that you are trying to install over it. So the chances that you would get a working database are very negligible here. That said, why you are installing 9i ? Why not 10g/11g?

  • Oracle virtual box and OEL 64 bit installation

    Hi,
    Wonder if anyone can help.
I have a centos5 x86-64bit installation and have downloaded virtualbox and have started to install OEL 64bit.
All appear well until I get a message saying that
    yelp-2.16.0-13.el5.x86_64 cannot be opened.
I can either retry (the result is the same message) or I can reboot which seems to defeat the object of the exercise.
does anyone have any experience on how to resolve this issue?
    regards
    Alan

    Hi Alan,
to be honest, I always took the "DVD iso" to install... not the CD images. I never tried the CD images...
Furthermore yelp-2.0.16-13 is OEL 5.0... which is pretty old, I would suggest you at least taking the CDs of OEL 5.4....
I could imagine that the VM support was not that good in OEL 5.0...
    Regards
    Sebastian

i want to know that is oracle user and its groups already created by default during installation of OEL 5.5 ??Why would it? It's just an operating system. It doesn't know or care what applications you may or may not choose to install at any time in the future after it (the OS) is installed, nor does it know or care about the requirements of any application you may choose to install at any time in the future.
