Installation of a personal edtition of oracle 8i

Question

Dear specialist,
I have installed the personal edition of oracle 8i on my computer (win 98).
I can connect to the database via the oracle tools.
I want to develop an application with VB but I don't know how configure the tnsnames for a local access and what connection string used in my VB application.
Can you give an example to configure these and the data source ODBC?

Personal oracle doesn't have the listener running (by default). If you want to connect with TCP/IP AND you have a TCP/IP listener configured, then you first need to start the listner:
c>lsnrctl start
