Installation of ColdFusion

During the installation of Coldfusion on my system, it gives
me the following install options that I must select from. Please
advise as to which selection I should make:
1. Server Configuration
Install ColdFusion MX 7 as a self-contained server. Similar
to earlier versions of ColdFusion.
2. Multiserver Configuation
Install ColdFusion MX 7 on JRun 4 with integrated support for
clustering and for creating multiple ColdFusion server instances on
a single computer.
3. J2EE Configuation
Package ColdFusion MX 7 as a J2EE application. Lets you
deploy ColdFusion MX on an existing J2EE server. For a list of
supported servers and deployment instructions, see "Installing and
Using ColdFusion MX".

If you are just installing a basic server setup (no
clustering etc) then the majority use #1.

  • Flex with ACME installation of Coldfusion

After a tremendously-difficult attempt (my own fault
largely!) I have been able to get up the "ACME Guide" installation
of Apache, ColdFusion, MySQL and Eclipse. Now it's time to add Flex
(and hopefully PHP5 eventually...). I am in good shape at this
point because I had to install a new OS so my trial dl will be new.
If I can get this working and the contact database and file
upload tutorials perfectly functional (which will prove it's
usability to me), I will purchase all I need to migrate over to
this way of doing things from Flash/PHP.
Does anyone know what the best way to setup Flex is, in
Eclipse, when you have an underlying ACME structure for everything
else? Where can I go wrong, what would be good practice for
    installation locations, etc.?
    Thanks kindly,
    Shawn
ps, the ACME Guide installation for ColdFusion is here, and
worth every word of reading, especially if you are a beginner like
    me...
    http://www.acidlabs.org/extras/acme/

Thanks. Installing Flex last night was a breeze, I just want
to make sure everything is as centralized and logical as possible
given the ACME changes. For example, I want all my projects in one
area, I want all the web-open stuff to go into the proper folders
based on the website (1 of 3 right now) in the Apache VirtualHosts
I made, etc. and I'm hoping I can now configure Flex like that,
including db connectivity with Quantum DB plug-in if necessary, and
the free version of Data Services, and communication with CF. I'll
    check into the RDS section.
There's a huge difference for someone like me between a plug
and play install of PHP/Apache/MySQL to plop in PHP files for use
with Flash...and this huge (definitely beautiful, but complex)
environment all installed and configured manually...I'll be glad
when the CF7.0.2/Flex2 books start hitting the stores.
I still need PHP because I still have a site that will rely
on Flash/PHP...and one site I host for someone has the GuestBook
written in PHP...no other use for PHP on my server, but definitely
need it for now at least. Obviously, the big plan is to move
everything over, and I'm sure that day will come...

  • How do you verify hotfix installation for ColdFusion?

Specifically for hotfix APSB13-10 for ColdFusion 9.0.1, is there a way to verify the hotfix installation other than checking for the updated hf901-00009.jar file or other updated files? Is there a version change that can be seen in ColdFusion?

    Hello Kurt,
For CF 9.01, Go to {ColdFusion-Home}/lib/updates (for Server installation) or {ColdFusion-Home}/WEB-INF/cfusion/lib/updates (for Multiserver and J2EE installations) directory. If you have the hf901-00009.jar available there, that verifies you have the latest patch is applied.

  • Questions on installation of ColdFusion 9.0.2 version from existing 9.0.1

    Hello,
I am currently running ColdFusion 9.0.1 enterprise edition, and plan to upgrade to 9.0.2 version. I understand that this requires uninstallation of existing 9.0.1 and performing a fresh install of 9.0.2 version. My concerns are below:
    1. For installing 9.0.2, the 9.0.2 installer (demo/ trial version) needs to be downloaded and the existing serial number (used in 9.0.1) can be given during installation to convert this into the fully registered mode - Please correct me if my understanding is incorrect here. My question is will the existing serial key (as displayed in the CF Admin page of 9.0.1 version) work with the 9.0.2 version as well?
    2. There are lots of configurations that are present in the existing 9.0.1 version - for instance the data sources configured in CF Admin page. Is there a way I can save such configurations from the existing version, and migrate the settings over to the new 9.0.2 install, or do I need to do the entire configuration manually after doing the new installation? Datasources is one thing that I can think of; what other configurations can I save, if such a provision is available?
    3. During installation of 9.0.2, there is a quesion on 'configure webserver connector for CF' which lets me add webservers/websites during installation. If I select "built-in webserver" as the option (thereby not configuring any webserver/website), can I modify this and configure server/site later on, after compeleting the installation?
What would be some things that I need to be wary of during this installation of 9.0.2 from 9.0.1?
    Thanks!
    -arun

I did a successful installation of 9.0.2; answering my own questions, for the benefit of future upgraders -
    1. Yes. Only the serial number is required (as is shown in the CF Admin Page of existing installation)
    2. Configurations (eg: data sources) can be exported. Go to CF Admin Page, click on Packaging & Deployment, click on CF Archives. Basically, you export the settings as archive files with extension .car. Once exported from current installation, this can be imported by selecting this car file and clicking on the deploy button.
    3. Server configuration can be modified (add/remove) using the "Web Server Configuration Tool" that comes installed by default with CF 9. You can find it under program files (windows OS).
I had some issues during installation. After installing, the CF Admin page would not be rendered. Basically no cfm page would load, since the extension would not be known by IIS (or the server you use). For configuring this, use the "Web Server Config Tool" mentioned above. Launch this and enable the checkbox that asks about rendering cfm pages (forgot the exact name). Once this is done, cfm pages should load. I had to enable this, and then do a reinstallation though.

  • Coldfusion 10 ODBC Services

I have a server with an installation of ColdFusion 10 however the ODBC Services did not get installed with the initial installation. Is there a simple, manual method for installing ODBC Services without uninstalling CF and then reinstalling with that option selected? I have tried running the installation over the current one but with the Configure Installer window, it has Server Configuration greyed out as it has found a current installation. It then gives an option of either EAR file or WAR file in the JEE configuration. Not sure which to choose so that's why I ask the question of a manual install.
Thanks in advance. This is running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit box.

Here is the script to install ODBC services
    <cfscript>
      //login using admin

      createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.administrator").login("admin");
      //instantiate datasource object
      myObj = createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.datasource");
    </cfscript>
    To Install ODBC Services:

  • Upgrade Coldfusion 8 Multiserver to Coldfusion 9 Multiserver

So I am working on a new web environment that we are planning to rollout in January and I have all of the servers setup, configured and ready to go.  They are running CF 8 multiserver and everything runs pretty great right now.  Now that coldfusion 9 is out management wants to go live with the new web environment on CF 9 so as not to start off behind a version.
    Platform:
    Solaris 10 (64 bit) : Apache 2.2.10 (64 bit) : Cf 8.0.1
My question then is is there anyway to just upgrade 8 to 9 or do I have to jump through all of the archive, uninstall, reinstall and restore hoops?  Is there an easy method for upgrading the multiserver install?
The oh so incredible documentation alludes to the possibility of upgrading.
"The ColdFusion installation process supports the following scenarios:
New installation     Install ColdFusion on a computer with no earlier ColdFusion installation.
    Upgrade installation
You can upgrade from ColdFusion MX 7 and ColdFusion 8. When upgrading, the installer preserves the existing settings and installs in a new directory, automatically assigning ports that do not conflict with the existing installation."
I have to assume that this "upgrade" is only possible for single server installs since the multiserver option is grayed out when you run the installer.
I thought that I would post something here before I went full bore into trying to do it with the archive restore method (which I am hoping will work.)
Thanks in advance for any input.

  • Installing Coldfusion 9 and Apache 2.2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard

I'm having issues getting ColdFusion 9 working with Apache 2.2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.
The server is brand new and it's a fresh install of Apache and ColdFusion 9.
Having installed Apache, I tested the web server and it was working fine, so I proceeded to install ColdFusion 9. I attempted to restart the Apache server through the Apache Service monitor, only to get the error dialog box 'The requested operation has failed'.
On closer examination of the Windows error log, I saw the following error:
The Apache service named  reported the following error: >>>
httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 488 of C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun22.so into server: The Apache service named is not a valid Win32 application.
I updated the ColdFusion installation to 9.0.1 in case there was an issue with version 9.0 and Apache. Still no joy.
After a bit of research, I thought perhaps there was an issue with the mod_jrun22.so file (since when I commented out the reference to that file from the Apache config file, the Apache HTTP server started without any problem). I tried replacing the mod_jrun22.so with the 32 bit version (extracted from the wsconfig.jar file), but that made no difference either.
I have tried a number of things. I have run wsconfig and uninstalled all web server connectors and then re-created them.
I have to use Apache and IIS is not an option (I use rewrite rules extensively in an existing live installation and have many sites set up in a vhosts file), so please - no suggestions to use IIS instead.
The system requirements on http://www.adobe.com/sea/products/coldfusion/systemreqs/ state that Coldfusion 9 will work with Apache 2.2.17 and later on Windows 64 bit, so why am I having issues with a brand-new installation on a 'virgin' server?
Any help would be much appreciated. I have spent hours trawling the Web for solutions.

I missed an important detail in my opening post. My Coldfusion 9 version is 64 bit - not 32.
OK. Simple solution to this. I'll put it here for other peoples' reference.
To cut a long story short, after phoning Adobe support this morning I was told that you can't run a 64 bit version of ColdFusion with a 32 bit web server. In essence, the web server software and the ColdFusion server software must be the same - either 32 or 64 bit.
Apache is only officially released as a 32 bit version, but there is a 64 bit unofficial version available from http://www.blackdot.be/?inc=apache/binaries, so I downloaded that and installed it, based on the instructions at http://www.elxis.org/guides/developers-guides/64bit-apache-php-mysql-windows.html.
Once I'd installed the 64bit version of Apache, the installation of Coldfusion 9 64 bit went smoothly and all appears to be working just fine now (well, I can get to the ColdFusion Administrator page and I have successfully updated the server software to ColdFusion 9.0.1).
The fact that you can't mix different 'bit' versions of software in this way may be obvious, but it wasn't obvious to me. Having been an early adopter of a 64 bit version of Vista on my own PC, I never experienced these kind of problems before. Software installed itself into the corresponding locations on my PC without any problem and just worked. This is the first time I've run into this problem.
Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any information regarding this very important requirement on the system requirements pages, so I suggested to the support engineer that he may want to make the recommendation that the page is amended to clarify the situation: e.g.
IMPORTANT: 64 bit versions of ColdFusion require 64 bit versions of web server software to function. You can not mix 32 bit and 64 bit versions of web servers and ColdFusion server.
Hope this helps someone else out.

  • How to make my first website in Coldfusion Builder

    Hi everyone,
Here is my problem that I really need help with.
    Context:
I just moved from Dreamveawer to Coldfusion Builder. I want to:
-> Set up my first server
-> Creating an SQL DB on the server
-> Create an index page and display query results
When I started CF builder, i watched the videos on 'Getting Started ' screen. But my things didn't go as smooth as that of the guy in the video. After setting up the server I sometimes cannot start the server and sometimes the server starts but I can't access the CF Admin page (I couldn't access the admin page even once).
    Question(s):
Does CF Builder installer also include Coldfusion setup or I have to install Coldfusion prior to installing the CF Builder?
Is there any way of getting details about all the fields that I fill in during installation of Coldfusion/CF Builder, so I know what I am filling instead of just blindly following that dumb guy in the video
    Other Info:
    I am using Win7 64bit
    Installed Coldfusion9
    Installed CF Builder2 (standalone)
    P.S.
I already watched these videos but they didn't work for me:
    -> http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adc-presents/getting-started-with-coldfusion-builder-2/
-> The video on CF Builder2 start screen

Thanks for clarifying.  Terry is a good guy. Glad you didn't mean him
It is likely that when you installed ColdFusion you selected the "Server Configuration" (because you would know it if you did not). The other two options are quite complicated. You can verify this just by answering this question. Do you access ColdFusion via port 8500. If so, then you are using the Server Configuration.
This means that your webroot is probably located at c:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot
If you installed ColdFusion to a different location (like D:\) then you should be able to just make that change above.
Change your workspace in CFBuilder (FILE >> Switch Workspace) to point to that wwwroot directory, then recreate your project and try it again.
There are other ways of handling most of this. But this is probably the easiest.
And trust me, when it comes to teaching, it's hard to please everyone. ColdFusion Builders target audience is likely experienced CF developers. Of course n00bs can use it too, but I am sure when they created those videos there interest was in getting existng CF developers on board. I teach a server-side programming course at the college level and it can be very hard teaching the IDE and the Server software at the same time. And I can see people struggling with figuring out the differences in terminology and technology.
Where does the IDE stop and the server begin?
I got an error, is the problem in CF or CFB?
CFB says I have an error, but my code still runs, I don't understand.
It's a tough line to cross. I am sure Adobe would be interested in hearing your feedback on how to make the training videos better, or on what types of new videos should be created. But try not to be too hard on them for not havign exactly what you need.

  • ColdFusion 8.01 install issue with Win2008 server

I am having an issue with the installer on ColdFusion 8.01 in Win2008 server.  I have done 5 or 6 identical installs with no problem so this caught me by surprise,  The server OS is Server 2008 R2 Enterprise service pack1.  I am running the install (coldfusion-801-win.exe) as an administrator in emulation mode (Windows Server 2003 service pack 1). The following is the error i get.   As I stated earlier I have done this exact install, both single & multi-server, on 5 or 6 Win2008 servers with no issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

It is definitely possible as I did it some time ago, alas don't have notes any more. Unless anyone here has some specific build notes on it, it's just a case of "Google is your friend" unfortunately.

  • Newly installed coldfusion 11 configured with apache cannot read css/js/jpg files

I am sure I am missing something really easy, but I cannot get my css stylesheet to work on my fresh installation.
    coldfusion 11 with apache 2.2
my cfm files can be parsed in subfolders, but a css file (or anything else other than cfm files) in the same folder doesn't seem to be working as hoped
if I type in something like "localhost/appName/css/main.css" I get a 404 File Not Found error
Does this error indicate an apache or coldfusion problem?
Thanks in advance for any help, Wayne

    Hi Wayne,
Could you please confirm if the webroot you are referring to is the ColdFusion webroot, or Apache webroot.
CSS files in the ColdFusion webroot may not be served when explicitly requested through the Apache port, since Apache would not even forward the request to ColdFusion.
Of course, when a CFM page is requested, stylesheet's referenced within CFM pages must get loaded!

  • ColdFusion MX Administrator unreachable

I have installed Trial ColdFusion Enterprise MX 7.0.1
multiserver on my machine : Windows 2000 Pro + IIS 5.0 + java
    1.4.2_04
Impossible to load the ColdFusion MX Administrator page
    http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm.
I have checked the install logs, all seems to be OK, no
    error.
    Could you help me?

try this - its probable you dont have the CFDocs to restore,
    however read this below
    its from
    http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=b41d02c5
Uninstalling Macromedia ColdFusion MX 6.1 after migrating to
ColdFusion MX 7 removes the CFIDE and cfdocs folders. This problem
exists primarily on Windows machines and when ColdFusion MX is
configured to run with an external web server.
    Reason
The ColdFusion MX 7 CFIDE and cfdocs folders replace the
ColdFusion MX 6.1 folders during the migration process. However,
you are still able to uninstall ColdFusion MX 6.1 using the
uninstall program. When you run the uninstall program for
ColdFusion MX 6.1, the CFIDE and cfdocs folders are removed and
therefore, you are unable to run ColdFusion MX 7 afterwards.
    Solution
Use the steps below to avoid this problem:
Start the ColdFusion MX 7 installation with ColdFusion MX 6.1
running, so that the migration will occur. Make sure you allow to
configure with an external web server.
Complete the ColdFusion MX 7 installation and copy any items
    that didn't migrate.
Make a copy of the CFIDE and cfdocs folders.
    Uninstall ColdFusion MX 6.1.
Restart the ColdFusion Application Server service.
Copy the CFIDE and cfdocs folders back to the root directory.
