Installation of Companion Software - Best Practices

Hi everyone,
I have an NFS server (sparc solaris 10 11/06) and a client (x86_64 solaris 11/06). I would like to install many of the offerings on the Sun Companion Software disc.
In the past, because of disk space and patching convenience, we installed all of the /opt/sfw stuff on the server in /export/ and NFS exported everything to the clients. When a new version came out, we just reinstalled over the path (unless parallel installs were desired).
Now, clients have gobs of local disk space, and a cleaner patching system.
Is it better to now install, say tetex, locally onto each client? Will Sun Update Connection offer patches to such when the client contacts the patching mother ship?
Or, is it better to still go with a network install?
Does anyone have some documentation or white papers on this topic they can direct me to?
Many thanks in advance,
Phil

What happens to my preference settings?
Nothing. Adobe apps don't migrate settings to avoid compatibility issues. You will have to set them up from scratch or import/ export them, where possible.
Will old projects still work in the new software?
Sure. that's the whole point of selling upgrades. Just be aware that this is a one way road and you can't go back and open an AE CS6 project on CS5... for specific issues and caveats, ask on the product forums.
Is there a way for me to keep soundbooth without keeping the whole creative suite 5?
Uninstall the whole suite, then run a custom reinstall and only choose SB.
Does Audition have scores available for download like soundbooth does?
Ask in the AU forum.

here is described the package: http://www.scribd.com/doc/6120793/SAP-Best-Practices-Whatsnew-V5600-En
    here the path on servicemarketplace:
    Installations and Upgrades
Installations and Upgrades -> SAP Best Practices -> SAP BP BASELINE PACKAGE -> SAP BP BASELINE -> Package I -> BASELINE PACKAGE - V1.- V5.600
    Thanks a lot!!

    Hi,
If you are able to download it directly then i dont think it is a paid consulting.
Prior to providing the service, SAP mentions that it would be a paid service & asks for your approval. If you give the approval, then only it processes further.
If you are not prompted with any such information, then please go ahead & download.

  • Creating Master Image Best Practices

    Greetings!
Soon, I will be sending a master disk to a fulfillment company for mass replication.
I have already sold about 350 copies of my DVD (produced with Encore), which I burn on my computer (Alienware, Windows 7), and then package and ship to my customers.
    I
I've had one guys who said it "skipped really bad", I've had a couple customers who get an "invalid or unknown file" error when they tried to play it on a DVD player, and one guy who couldn't play on a computer because of a "missing DVD decoder".
4 or 5 errors out of 350 isn't bad, but I'm wondering if there's anything I need to know, in order to make my NTSC DVD as universally viewable as possible?
I know not to exceed an 8mb/s bitrate, but other than that, is there anything I should know or do?
    Thank you!
    Pat

I did indeed use Taiyo-Yudens. Since I bought 500 blanks, I got a good price on solid media.
I'm mostly wondering if there's a software 'best practice' I need to follow, since my fulfillment center will be handling most of the heavy lifting with the hardware and media.
    Thanks, video pros..!

  • Best Practice for SAP PI installation to share Data Base server with other

    Hi All,
We are going for PI three tire installation but now I need some best practice document for PI installation should share Data base with other Non-SAP Application or not. I never see SAP PI install on Data base server which has other Application sharing. I do not know what is best practice but I am sure sharing data base server with other non-sap application doesnu2019t look good means not clean architecture, so I need some SAP document for best practice to get it approve from management. If somebody has any document link please let me know.
    With regards
    Sunil

You should not mix different apps into one database.
If you have a standard database license provided by SAP, then this is not allowed. See these sap notes for details:
    [581312 - Oracle database: licensing restrictions|https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=581312]
[105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment|https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=105047] -> number 23
          23. External data in the SAP database
Must be covered by an acquired database license (Note 581312).
Permitted for administration tools and monitoring tools.
In addition, we do not recommend to use an SAP database with non-SAP software, since this constellation has considerable disadvantages

  • Best Practice for SUP and WSUS Installation on Same Server

    Hi Folks,
I have a question, I am in process of deploying SCCM 2012 R2... I was in process of deploying Software Update Point on SCCM with one of the existing WSUS server installed on a separate server from SCCM.
A debate has started with of the colleague who says that the using remote WSUS server is recommended by Microsoft because of the scalability security  that WSUS will be downloading the updates from Microsoft and SCCM should be working as downstream
server to fetch updates from WSUS server.
but according to my consideration it is recommended to install WSUS server on the same server where SCCM is installed... actually it is recommended to install WSUS on a site system and you can used the same SCCM server to deploy WSUS.
please advice me the best practices for deploying SCCM and WSUS ... what Microsoft says about WSUS to be installed on same SCCM server OR WSUS should be on a separate server then the SCCM server ???
    awaiting your advices ASAP :)
    Regards, Owais

    Hi Don,
thanks for the information, another quick one...
the above mentioned configuration I did is correct in terms of planning and best practices?
I agree with Jorgen, it's ok to have WSUS/SUP on the same server as your site server, or you can have WSUS/SUP on a dedicated server if you wish.
The "best practice" is whatever suits your environment, and is a supported-by-MS way of doing it.
One thing to note, is that if WSUS ever becomes "corrupt" it can be difficult to repair and sometimes it's simplest to rebuild the WSUS Windows OS. If this is on your site server, that's a big deal.
Sometimes, WSUS goes wrong (not because of ConfigMgr)..
Note that if you have a very large estate, or multiple primary site servers, you might have a CAS, and you would need a SUP on the CAS. (this is not a recommendation for a CAS, just to be aware)

  • Best Practice for Installation of Both Leopard and Aperture 2 upgrade.

I've finally bought the bullet and purchased both Leopard and Aperture 2.0 upgrade. I've tried searching for a best practice to install both, but haven't been able to find one--only trouble shooting type stuff. Any suggestions, things to avoid, etc would be greatly appreciated. Even a gentle shove to a prior thread would be helpful. . . .
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    • First be really sure that all your apps work well with 10.5.3 before you leave 10.4.11, which is extraordinarily stable.
    • Immediately prior to and immediately after every installation of any kind (OS, apps, drivers, etc.) got to Utilities/Disk Utility/First Aid, and Repair Permissions. Repairing Permissions is not a problem fixer per se, but anecdotally many folks with heavy graphics installations (including me) who follow that protocol seem to maintain better operating environments under the challenge of heavy graphics than folks who do not diligently do so.
    • When you upgrade the OS do a "clean install."
    • RAM is relatively inexpensive and 2 GB RAM is limiting. I recommend adding 4x2 GB RAM. One good source is OWC: http://www.owcomputing.com/.
    • After you do your installations check for updates to the OS and/or Aperture, and perform any upgrades. Remember to Repair Permissions immediately prior to and immediately after the upgrade installations.
    • If you are looking for further Aperture performance improvement, consider the Radeon HD 3870. Reviews at http://www.barefeats.com/harper16.html and at http://www.barefeats.com/harper17.html.

  • XREF best practices in ESB cluster installation-OESB10.1.3.3

    Hi,
We are using Oracle ESB during last 2 years.
2 months ago I migrated our ESB installation to ESB Cluster in production (1 ESB DT, 1 ESB RT for polling
adapters, 2 ESB RT for further message processing).
We are using SOA Suite 10.1.3.3 with MLR#17 applied.
I faced a issue with XREF (populateXRefRow XPath function) in production system and need assistance.
All our ESB Processes contains next main parts:
    1) Polling DB-adapter (or FTP-adapter, this didn't matter) that initiates a ESB process, routing service for that polling adapter
    that asyncronously (!) invokes Requestor ABC level services (AIA terms);
    2) Requestor ABC level-services perform XREF population and continues message
    processing.
XREF population is doing with next steps:
we call lookupXRefRow XPath function, if value is not present in XREF, we doing
    populateXRefRow call.
This logic is working fine when we are not using ESB cluster, but now step 2) (ReqABC level) is performed by different ESB servers
and frequently we faced unique constraint violation error on XREF_DATA
    population (during populateXrefRow call).
ESB RT nodes using to balance load but transmitted data is intersected. For example, we are poll not documents but document details instead (polling table populated by Oracle Streams, there are no guarantee that document header receives earlier than document details, because our system is high loaded and we are using commit_serialization=none with parallelism at APPLY processes).
Each ESB RT instance can receive different rows of same document and xref population done at document header level.
My question is: what is best practices to work with XREF in ESB cluster installations?
May be other peoples faced with this issue and how this issue was resolved?
I know possible workarounds to accomplish this task: not call populateXRefRow function in XSLT, instead call PL/SQL procedure or function that working same but can ignore any exceptions.
This's solution not liked to me, but I dont know any other solutions.
Also I cannot not populate XREF because XREF actively used in inter-systems communication.

  • Best practice for installing which software group

I am new to Solaris. I have Sun X2100 with 2 x 80G harddisks (run as email server, run tomcat, jboss and postgresql) , which software group is recommended for production install? Is there any guide (best practice)?

There is one best practice document available from Oracle RACSIG site and "Oracle Real Applicaiton Cluster Administration and Deployment Guide" available on OTN is also good source of informaiton about 10g RAC.
Oracle has made sincere efforts in 10g documentations expecially in server technology.

  • SAP Best practice for Oracle installation on HPux

Hi - I am looking for SAP best practices document to install ERP6 on Oracle 10G platform HPUNIX 31. Is there any sap best practices guide?
Also, for Dev system, I am planning to install ABAP and JAVA stacks in one database. What do I need to do in database level?
Last, How am  I going to configure the 2 engines to communicate?
Any reference to documents will be appreciated.
    Regards
    k

    Hi,
Sorry but I'm going to be a bit bold here.
All needed information is on the guides.
    1) If you are on Windows, you put the SAP-Oracle CD/DVD in, execute the command mentioned on the installation guide type the two things mentioned on the guide and press next next next. Then you install SAP
    2) if you are on UNIX, you start SAP installation, then it stops and tell you to install Oracle. The guide tells you to run RUNINSTALLER (in capitals) you type the two things mentioned on the guide and press next next next. Then you continue the SAP installation.
Of course, those are the simplified versions
No response file is generated "ever". The response file comes INSIDE the installation CDs, for that reason is very important to execute the EXACT commands mentioned on the installation guides, in order to use such, already existing, response file.
I do not understand this need of super-hiper detailed step by step guides.
If you get one like that, then it will be obsolete after one month because there are new Oracle parameters, new oracle patches/patch sets or new .... that have to be done

  • Best practice RAC installation in two datacenter zones?

    Datacenter has two separate zones.
In each zone we have one storage system and one rac node.
We will install RAC 11gR2 with ASM.
For data we want to use diskgroup +DATA, normal redundancy mirrored to both storage systems.
For CRS+Voting we want to use diskgroup +CRS, normal redundancy.
But for CRS+Voting diskgroup with normal redundancy we need 3 luns and we have only 2 storage systems.
I believe the third lun is needed to avoid split brain situations.
If we put two luns to storage #1 and one lun to storage #2, what will happen when storage #1 faills - this means that two of three disks for diskgroup +CRS are unaccessible?
What will happen, when all equipment in zone #1 fails?
Is human intervention required: at failure time, when zone#1 is coming up again?
Is there a best practice for a 2-zone 2-storage rac configuration?
    Joachim

    Hi,
As far as voting files are concerned, a node must be able to access more than the half of the voting files at any time (simple majority). In order to be able to tolerate a failure of n voting files, one must have at least 2n+1 configured. (n= number of voting files) for the cluster.
The problem in a stretched cluster configuration is that most installations only use two storage systems (one at each site), which means that the site that hosts the majority of the voting files is a potential single point of failure for the entire cluster. If the storage or the site where n+1 voting files are configured fails, the whole cluster will go down, because Oracle Clusterware will loose the majority of voting files.
To prevent a full cluster outage, Oracle will support a third voting file on an inexpensive, lowend standard NFS mounted device somewhere in the network. Oracle recommends putting the NFS voting file on a dedicated server, which belongs to a production environment.
Use the White Paper below to accomplish it:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clusterware/overview/grid-infra-thirdvoteonnfs-131158.pdf

  • Best practice in getting compliance rates of Software Update Deployments

    Hi,
Would like to ask around on how others generate reports about software update deployment compliance. What do you use to get this report? Are there best practices for gathering software update compliance reports?

There is not really a best-practice on reports that you need to use for compliancy on software updates. One of the reports I often use to check the compliancy is
Compliance 1 - Overall compliance as it provides a good overview of a specific collection for an update group. For more details you can use
Compliance 3 - Update group (per update).
