Installation of CS on two machines

Hi,
currently I own just a PS 8 license. Now I want to "upgrade" to CS4 Design Premium. As I read in the EULA I can install the suite on my desk and my mobile computer. My Problem is now, that my mobile computer is a Mac Book Pro and my desktop is a Vista machine. So the final question is, can I use the Mac Serial for a Windows installation?

  • Installation on two machines?

Hi! Anyone knows if this new baby can be installed on two machines?
LP7 was no problem (however it could only be used one at a time obviously).
Since the XSkey thing is outdated now, I wonder how they address this now...
    Let me know...

  • WebLogic domain spread across two machines

    Hi All,
I have a weblogic domain that spreads across two machines. First machine hosts the Admin server, (BAM , SOA) managed servers and the second machine hosts the (APPs and FIN) managed servers. As you can see the managed servers hosts different applications and not related with clustering. I want to know in such a setup do we need to have separate weblogic installation on both first and second machines or just have WebLogic installation on the first machine and have the second machine reference the first's WL installation.
    What's the best practice.
    Regards

I mean for a domain spread over two machines, I need to have weblogic installation on both machines and not just the one running admin server. I read somewhere WebLogic installations have 1 to N relation with domains. Seems like for a domain spread across two machines, two WL installations and two licences. Am I right?

I have a students excel package intalled on my Mac Book - can I also install this software on my new mac mini - do I need another license or can I populate two machines?

Normally Microsft allows the installation of their programs, except Operating Systems, to be installed on a desktop and notebook at the same time as long as both system are used exclusively by the same person and Not at the same time.
So this should also be true for MS Office for Mac. The only way to tell is to install it on the Mini and then use the same key to activate it. If the activation goes through you are fine. But if you run both system at the same time do not open any of the Office programs on both system at the same time. That may trigger MS to disallow one of the activations.
MS Office for both Mac and Windows checks the local network and logs into the MS activation site everytime one of the apps is started to check current activation and to check if you have it running on more then one computer on your local network using the same key.

    Hi;

what is the best way to realize that.
installation on each machine or installation on one machine and copy the environment to the second?
which way is recommended or better? One option can be:
If the path will same and If the OS will same (I assume you are on unix) than you can copy oracle_home and datafile to new machine(Also oratab, oraInventory, oraInst.loc file) The second machine db could be run.You may need to run relink binary
    Second one is:
Make installation on machine 1 than clone it to machine 2. See:

  • Keeping two machines 100% synced

    Here is my setup:
    1.  MacBook Pro with 128 Gb SSD boot drive and 1 Tb secondary drive (using a caddy in place of SuperDrive)
    2.  Mac Pro desktop with 128 Gb SSD boot drive and 1 Tb secondary drive (have additional drives in remaining 2 slots, but they aren't relevant to this)
I use the MBP in the field when shooting video and photos to dump files, do quick views and minor edits, even some minor word processing if I am on a client site and need to generate a form, and email/web searches, etc.  At home, I will sometimes use the MBP for full editing in a secondary office.
I use the MP for pretty much the same thing apart from the portable aspect.
    Here's my question/desire/wish:
Is there a method or application whereby I can keep these two machines 100% synced once the MBP rejoins my home network?
Example 1:  I store the video/photo files on the 1 Tb secondary drive of the MBP.  When the MBP arrives home, it should immediately start syncing those files over to the MP's 1 Tb secondary drive in the same folder structure.
Example 2:  I install a new application on the MP.  That application (or files which the installer puts into place on the MP) get automatically installed or copied to their respective locations on the MBP.
Example 3:  I begin editing a Premiere project on the MBP.  I save it, get up and walk to the other office and sit down at the MP and open the same project and pick up where I left off on the MBP.  And vice versa.
Essentially what I am looking for is a "roaming profile" set up but with the redundancy of having two locations for everything, kept in total sync with each other, and reflecting changes as I make them, near simultaneously.
Ideally, and to make matters even more complicated, I would like this same set up to work with an additional machine, my wife's iMac.  She shoots alongside me in the field and we could both dump our files into the MBP, do whatever initial work needs to be done, and then pick up at home, she on her iMac looking at her photos, and me on the MP editing video.
I'm suspecting a possible solution involves a series of Automator scripts and folder actions, but I was hoping to find a more elegant, one-click idea.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Flame for requesting an entirely unreasonable feature?

Synchronizing data between devices is a complex issue, and there's no really ideal solution. This comment is an oversimplification.
Mail can be synchronized by storing it on a mail server that uses the IMAP protocol, such as iCloud. The mail stays on the server, so it's automatically in sync with all mail clients.
Several other kinds of data can be synced via iCloud, such as calendars, iWork documents, photos, Safari tabs and bookmarks, and keychains. Some third-party applications can also sync with iCloud, but not many. iCloud is easy to use, for the most part. The drawbacks of using it are, first, that it doesn't sync everything; and second, that some of your private information will be in the hands of strangers. Read the iCloud feature list and privacy notice carefully before deciding whether or how to use it. There should be no privacy concerns with iCloud keychain, because the data is encrypted end-to-end and is not accessible to anyone at Apple—but you have to take Apple's word for that.
A more comprehensive solution, and one that doesn't raise any privacy issues, is to set up an OS X Server on your network and create mobile accounts on your other Macs. You will then be able to synchronize all files in the home folder automatically at logout, or at any other time manually. The main drawback here is that OS X Server would be hard for most non-technical users to set up and maintain. Another is that the synchronization only works with Macs, not mobile devices.
Third-party software such as Unison can also be used to synchronize files over a network. Unison is free, but it's not easy to set up in a way that doesn't lead to conflicts when files are modified on different devices between synchronizations. To synchronize more than two Macs in this way, you'll want to use one as the master, and sync between it and the others.

  • Only allowed on two machines message

I got a message about CS4 already being on two machines. I have it on a computer at my dads house and on a computer at my moms house, at my dads house it's on two hard drives on the same computer in case one drive fails. Is this why I'm getting this message or did someone steal my serial number? I'm a student and I have a student version and the cs4 isn't compatible with my laptop. Thanks in advance.

"What is rather interesting is how you have two installations on one system on separate drives. Did you copy the directory structure or did you do separate installs? Note that you can't simply manually drag and drop Adobe software installation folders. Software must be installed in particular directories by the installer. It is indeed possible that you somehow activated twice on one system; something that isn't supposed to happen. You could try deactivating the "extra" copy on the system with two copies and see if that releases you to activate on the other system. Otherwise you may need to contact Adobe's Product Activation group (phone number is on your computer screen if you get the "too many activations" message), explain the problem, and they should be able to bump your activation count by one for you.
If you are the "primary" (or better stated the "only") on both systems, that is fine. "
Hey listen, I appreciate your replies. I installed twice on separate drives (separate installs...is there another way to do it?) on my dads machine. I activated it separately because I didn't know how to do it any other way. He had one drive fail at some time and lost everything and had some mac guru install another drive and put everything on both drives just in case. Since I spend time at both my parents house and since my laptop is lame they let me install my cs4 and quark on their machines. They don't even know what cs4 is let alone use it but know I need it for school.
"It is indeed possible that you somehow activated twice on one system; something that isn't supposed to happen" It did. I don't need two on one machine but dad suggested it so I did it. The weird thing was I didn't even use it at my dads. I double clicked on a word attachment in an e-mail and illustrator launched and the message about the two machines came up. Needless to say I was very confused.
And I called adobe but it sounded like I had to pay if I asked a question and they mentioned their site on their prerecorded message so I thought I would try here for free.

  • Same Safari, same version, same OS, but behaves differently on two machines

I have Safari 5.1.1 installed on two machines. Both have 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.1 installed but some web pages look differently on both machines. There seems to be a problem with browser window sizes. Hmmm ...

Could it be that the software on the installer CDs and via Software Update is "different" from the file I am able to download from Apple's own company website? Hu ... can you make it more complicated?

  • Using Lightroom Cloud to Sync Catalog Between Two Machines

I have use of so many cloud services including the 20gb that Adobe gives me.  Is there a way i can sync my catalog on the cloud so that i can have all my metadata on both my laptop and desk top?  I also have 300gb of cloud storage though Copy.  I would just like some recomendations on how best to go about it. Thanks

    Hi Pat,
Using Lightroom Cloud to Sync Catalog Between Two Machines
If you’re running Lightroom on a laptop during your location shoots, you might want to take all the edits, keywords, metadata, and of course the photos themselves, and add them to the Lightroom catalog on your studio computer. It’s easier than it sounds: basically, you choose which catalog to export from your laptop, then you take the folder it creates over to your studio computer and import it.
You need to decide whether you want to export a folder (all the imported photos from your shoot), or a collection (just your Picks from the shoot). In this case, we’ll go with a collection, so go to the Collections panel and click on the collection you want to merge with your main catalog back in your studio. (If you had chosen a folder, the only difference would be you’d go to the Folders panel and click on the folder from that shoot instead. Either way, all the metadata you added, and any edits you made in Lightroom, will still be transferred over to the other machine.)
Please refer to http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1930499 for more details.

  • Creative Cloud Student, can I use one membership on my laptop and desktop (two machines)?

    Hi,
I currently have a macbook and am subscribed to creative cloud (student). I am looking at buying a second machine (desktop) and want to know if I can use CC on two machines under my one membership? Obviously I am a single user and will not be using the two machines at the same time.
    Thanks

Cloud License allows 2 activations http://www.adobe.com/legal/licenses-terms.html
    -Install on a 2nd computer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1452292?tstart=0
-Windows or Mac does not matter... 2 on the same operating system, or 1 on each

  • Two machines saving the same file as different sizes?

My coworker and I both have the same version of Illustratir (CS6) and both use Lion on iMacs, but today noticed something weird. He saved a file similar to a file I had done before as both an eps and a pdf and his file size was more than twice what my file sizes usually are. I thought it was odd, so I copied everything from his file into a new file (same dimensions) and saved out an eps and pdf (default settings), and like I thought, my files were less than half the size of his.
Why would two machines be saving identical files at different sizes? Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? Everything in the file is vector, if it matters. There's not even any editable text.

See the mechanism of saving here: http://superuser.com/questions/66825/what-is-the-difference-between-size-and-size-on-disk
The size of the "blocks" depends on the size of the disk and how it's been formatted.

  • How to work on the same project on two machines at the same time and also exchange progress seamlessly using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014?

We are working on a film project on Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014. Two editors are working on the same film project (same pproj file ) on two machines. As a result the bin structure and the file structure is exactly the same. We even bought two licenses for the respective machines to make matters simple (at least we thought it would).
Now when we share a sequence between the two machines, every time we have to import and re-link media. Also each sequence import comes with its own set of files, which are actually already present in the project. Basically the new sequences are looking to re-link the media to the original/ source files only and are completely ignoring the file structure present in the project.
In all editing softwares, timeline/ sequence sharing is a very common practise when working on multiple machines. Why is it so tedious in CC 2014? Every time we share a sequence between the two machines the media gets doubled and tripled in the project. As a result the project file size is increasing perpetually. Already Premiere CC 2014 is extremely laggy and slow, and this stupid bug is making it more difficult for us to finish our work on time.
Has anybody ever faced this issue? How do we solve it? We are willing to try out any workflow that you can suggest.

Concurrently working on the same project it requires a specific implementation in all editing programs like Avid's Unity/ ISIS shared storage. That's what you are simply not considering. none of your issues would be any problem if your projects resided on a commonly accessed server or something like that. Check respective hardware solutions.

  • Migrate 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 between two machines

on linux rh 7, I have installed 8.1.7. On another machine I have a database called chem on 8.1.6.
How do I export the table structure from 8.1.6 in an sql file that can be used to recreate my structure in the new version?
How do I EXPORT the data...will the file created by the export command in 8.1.6 be compatible with 8.1.7?
Is there a better way to do this?

I hate to answer my own question...
Upgrades of lower versions of Oracle to higher versions can be handled directly by the export/import. I found by going to the usenet oracle group, they had many posts which covered this issue.
If its not on the same machine, and you need to essentially copy you database from one to machine to the other, these are the steps:
    1. In the lower version machine, execute an export. You can do this from the sql*plus prompt, or on many os's just type exp blah-blah, and you will have exported your database. These can be quite large files, and enterprise data could be in the multi-gigabyte size. Obviously, this can be an os issue.
    2. On the other machine with the higher version, create the various empty tables and the same users for the database with the same name as the database on the older version.
    3. Use the import command on the sql*plus or imp blah blah in some operating systems, and this will import your data into the new version of the database. Go have a cup of copy, because this is going to take awhile.
You can probably write a script to do this, but I couldn't find one anywhere...if anybody has one, please post it here.
A faster alternative would be to use jdbc/java and use metadata to create the new tables in the new database, and then use selects on one database, and inserts on another database to insert the data. This only works if the two machines are networked together.
The migration assistant seems to work only if the versions and databases are on the same machine.
