Installation of Developer 6.0

I have set up an 8i server on a Unix machine and I have installed a client on an NT. Everything has run smoothly for the past year with this set-up as I learned the Oracle RDBMS and mainly used SQL*Plus (either running on the server or the NT client) to administer it. Now I'd like to be able to set up some simple forms ( a la MS Access ) that will allow novice users to be able to interact with my database. The question is, what is the correct framework to install developer? Does it need to reside on the same machine as the server ( I doubt it ). Must it reside on a machine with the Client? But when I do install it, it wants its own ORACLE_HOME and modifies the registry ( thereby screwing up the previously working NT Client).
I'd greatly appreciate any help understanding the installaion of Developer as the literature is rather limited. thanks.

I tried your advice, unfortunately it still does not work. Curiously, I get the error "Unable to connect to destination" not "Cannot resolve name".
It seems as if it can read tnsnames.ora, but cannot connect to the database??? One thing that is unusual (i think) is that when I installed Developer 6.0 from the CD,
the Net8 Configuration assistant was never launched. I've heard from several people that
it should be launched after installlation. I'm working with a CD-ROM from a textbook titled
"Oracle Developer Starter Kit" which claims to be the complete Oracle Developer-Developer Server Release 6.0 product!
Does anybody know if the installion of Developer 6i includes configuration by Net8 assistant???
Still trying> Thanks for your help.

  • Installation of developer suit 10g on windows 7 64-bit

    Dear all,
I have successfully installed oracle 10g and developer suit 10g in my lappy which runs on windows 7 64-bit, I am able to launch form builder, create a new form and compile it. But when I runs the form the the internet explorer 8 crashes.
    Please help

I am guessing that you are fairly new to the Oracle Forms product as you are not understanding the difference between the environment where a "form" is developed and the area where it can/will be run in a supported manner. Let me try to start from the beginning....
    1. The Forms Builder 10.1.2 is NOT_ supported to be installed on Windows 7. I can technically be accomplished but is considered NOT supported by Oracle. So unless you have a good working knowledge of the Developer Suite product and the Win7 operating system and don't care about getting technical support from Oracle, I do not recommend attemting to install on Win7. If you choose to install on Win7, you are on your own even if you have a Support agreement. Supported platforms include Windows 2000, Win-XP, Vista (see note 559067.1), Solaris, Linux
If you feel like you need to have the Builder installed in an UNSUPPORTED environment, you can probably follow the instructions provided for installing on Vista as they will likely work for Win7. If you have access to My Oracle Support, take a look at this document: How to Install Developer Suite 10.1.2.3 on Windows Vista (Doc ID 559067.1)
Supported Operating Systems and other installation information can be found in the Installation Guide:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25016_08/doc/dl/core/B16012_04/chap2.htm#i1007814
The only exception to the above is that we now support installing on Vista when following the note mentioned above.
    2. You can "run" your form after it has been designed and compiled, on a Windows 7 machine. The form will run in a browser, using a JRE/JPI.

  • Installation Problem Developer 6i/Oracle 8/Windows NT4 Please help.

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Developer 6i and Oracle 8
under Windows NT platform. I had several kind of problem. Atlast
I found the installation tips very help and followed it step by
step. Still I am facing the problem. Let me explain what i did,
    step by step,
1.downloaded the Oracle forms self extract file. Unzipped. Ran
    the Setup.exe.
2.This prepared for Oracle Developer installation. I selected
default path and home(d:\ORANT and home_Default). Selected
    oracle forms and installed it.
    3.Repeated step 2 to install reports 6i.
    4.Restarted the system.
    5.Created another directory d:\orantnew
6.Used the Oracle 8 CD and installed using the Autorun.Selected
different path and oracle Home this time.(D:\orantnew and
    home_New).
    7. Selected the Oracle Enterprise Edition option and did the
    installation.Rebooted the system.
    8. Did the TCP/IP changes explained in the Step (5) and Step (6)
    given below in Mr.Krishna's reply.
    9. Tried to start the listner by following Step (7) the listener
    won't start.
    10. Went ahead and copied the TNSNAMES.
Connected to SQL*Plus using Start/Program/Oracle-OracntNew using
    SCOTT/TIGER and connect went thru.
Then tried "CONNECT" from form builder, won't connect. I think
the error message was some thing related to TNS..(Since I have
uninstalled all the Oracle components now i can't give the exact
error.Sorry). I would like to know if there is anything I am
doing wrong or missing out something.
Note : While uninstalling the oracle components i had problem
removing the bin directory. So I had to stop some of the
    services
    (OracleServiceORC1 and OracleStartORC1 from
start/controlpanel/services option) in order to delete the
    oracle components.
Please someone let me know how can I install Oracle 8 and Oracle
    Developer 6i,in windows NT platform.
Incase if i am doing anything wrong in the above given step or
missing out something pl let me know.
    Thanks.

combinations may or may not work.> If you want to install
designer as well, do it now.
** Clean all Oracles off the computer using the following instructions. (Windows 95 and
    Windows 98)
    1. In regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    3. Delete the ORACLE key.
    4. Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC pertaining to Oracle.
    5. Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ODBC pertaining to Oracle.
    6. Edit your AUTOEXE.BAT file and remove your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin and JRE paths from the path settings.
    7. From the Windows Explorer (or from the command prompt), delete the Oracle Directory
    (Oracle Base).
    8. Delete < System_Drive > C:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command
    prompt).
    9. Delete Icons from < System_Drive> C:\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <System_Drive>
    C:\Windows\StartMenu\Oracle Installation Products. Where<HOME>
    is the previous HOME name.
    10. Reboot the system.
    Installing Developer 6i(Forms and Reports)
    1. Download the file from OTN site or Install from the CD. Install the installer. It will go
into a new default Oracle home that it will create. When you go
to install your Developer CD, close the installer that comes up
with the CD autorun. Go to the programs menu and Oracle for
Windows 95 and click on the installer there. Once it is open,
browse to the CD you wish to install. (installr/install/us)
    2. Start installer. Install Developer 6i first to default directory, Orawin95 How? Start installer, follow the prompts
that appear on the screen, you may have to do this twice, once
for Oracle Forms and once for Oracle Reports, after the
installation is successful reboot the system.
    3. If you want to install Designer 6 as well, do it now. (But I have not installed
the Designer ) Designer has to be installed before PO 8. 1. 6,
because PO816 can detect only one Oracle_home.
    4. Create a new folder on your root directory called Orawin98. Start the installer set-up from where you downloaded it and
select Orawin98 to install it in this time. You also need to
give this second home a name whatever you want, but through out
the process, you have to use the identical name, that is
critical. Orawin98 indicates this name in these instructions. Do
not reboot. Install Oracle 8.1.6 to the directory Orawin98 using
    the installer. Reboot the system.
    5. Go to Start/Setting/Control Panel/Network, if you do not have TCP/IP installed, install it
now, if you do, highlight TCP/IP, click properties. Select DNS
tab, select enable DNS, at the host area, type "Orawin98", leave
domain empty. Go to Identification Tab and enter your database
name, in this case BBM. Reboot the system after you finish.
    6. Configure your database listener. Go to Start/Programs/Oracle- Orawin98/Network Admistration/Net8
    Assistant, a window will pop
up, at the window expand Local and expand Listeners and double
click it, you will see a new window, go through all the tab
menus. At location address 1, Host name: use "Orawin98", Port
use: 1521 (default). And at location address 2, Host name:
use "Orawin98", Port use: 2481, go to the file/ save, close Net8
    Assistant.
    7. Start listener how? Go to Dos Window, type LSNRCTL, return, at LSNRCTL>, type Start. Listener should start
successfully, if not, you need to go back to Net8 Assistant to
    check configuration.
    8. Copy file "TNSNAMES" in directory C:\Orawin98\Net80\Admin to C:\oraein95\Net80\Admin.
    9. You are finished.
    10. To connect Forms/Reports/SQLPLUS to database - First start the
Listener, then start the database. Next, go to File menu in
Forms/Reports and select Connect. Type in user name and password
(system/manager or whatever) in this case it is SCOTT/TIGER and
the database name is your "DATABASENAME". When you want to quit
you need to exit from file menu of Forms/Reports, then you need
to stop Listener and then shut down database.
    11. You can rename your computer name in your original name. (for local networks)
Let me know if it is working.>null

Install Forms in one directory (You can have reports in the same
    directory).
Install oracle DB in another directory.
Don't change any file and reboot.
The listener will start automatically as a service.
(If not from a command line write "lsnrctl start" to start it).
To connect from forms/report to the DB you need to activate the
sqlnet easy config tool from the directory where forms is.
Follow the wizard to define an entry in the tnsnames.ora file
    automatically.
Then you can use your forms with the DB.
(IF you get problems it usually helps to let us know the error
code you get so we can direct you in the correct direction).

  • Windows 10 Enterprise Edition: Installation and Development Environment Essentials: Thoughts & Assistance Req:

    Hello,
I am in the architecture planning stage of my project and seeking personal and general good advice from Mircosoft engineers.  I am laying the foundation stones of a new development product using at least three more new technologies that are
as new as Windows 10. Their are also around four or five technology partners with the latest version of their software that I wish to take onboard. Due to the sensitive nature of the project it is not wise for me to state each piece of technology used,
so I will be as accurate as possible using the limited means I have.
I wish to make a "closed" development environment, with the latest build (currently 9860), install the new software. Some of which installs fine, some of which is not compatabile with Windows 10. Regarding the latter I am in discussions with the
technology providers to make a work-around and hammer and chisel through every issue. Very soon I hope to have a fully stable working development environment which paves the road to a first prototype. So i need to make a decision soon to "lock
down" everything. I will miss Windows 10 updates but the advantage is when the project vertical slice is complete, the feedback and benefit will be larger for Windows 10 final product.
This is probably my fifth or sixth early evaluation of the Windows platform and I am aware of the highs and lows of working with various versions using new builds, from the stability of win98 (becoming 2000 - minus millennium 1999 edition), to the quick uninstall
of vista (it broke our internal projects). The solid bedrock of Windows NT (becoming XP) and so on. The good news is Windows 10 seems very good indeed.
    My questions are two:
    1) Would the windows team recommend a closed environment development in my situation, and are they aware of other developers doing it (is it wise from your end)? Is their a pool, can we communicate directly?
    or
    2) Would you recommend an open environment instead? Every install is updated, everything is all on-line and networked, this may lead to more breakages and sacrifice the finished product.
The problem with approach number 2 is that a particular technology  may work with this build, but not the next one and vice versa. I will constantly be playing "bunny hop" trying to make it work.
The problem with using number 1 is that you can have a "false dawn" view of the project, meaning you have managed to get it stable and develop code that fits that environment and build, but as soon as you do update six months later, it breaks due
to feature change, it means massive re-work, ultimately breaking the product again.
I have seen these approaches drown larger projects and wash away whole development teams.
Its a tough one and a part of my R&D but very soon I need to make a decision.
To explain more, some of the technology used will be:
Windows 10 Enterprise - Perforce - Office 365 with Exchange Activ Synch - Any associated Intel CPU and GPU monitors.
In other words very stable and solid technology. Their is about an equal number of other techs that are not so stable but I am slowly getting to work under Windows 10.All feedback would be given to Microsoft, regardless of environment 1 or 2.
Any advice and help from the Microsoft Team is greatly appreciated.
    Yours Kindly,
    Asad

I recently went to an Enterprise Mobility Summit Microsoft was holding at one of their facilities, and they spoke a bit about the future of Windows 10 - and here's what I left with: Microsoft isn't really sure themselves what kind of updating scheme they're
going to be doing with Windows 10.  They had some ideas, but they're looking for feedback from enterprises and engineers about their plan.
I don't think it was under an NDA, so I should have no problem discussing it:  their idea was to have different tracks (based on the user) with different upgrade schedules based on what the administrator deems appropriate for that user.  For instance,
a consumer would have their OS automatically updated as soon as the update was available. while enterprises could stagger their users to a more manageable 3-month or 6-month schedule.  Microsoft wasn't sure how long to make this stagger schedule - talk
of a 1 year stagger were floated, but nothing concrete.  Critical devices, like POS or ATMs, could be setup so they would never be upgraded, or only upgraded when the administrator specifically allows them to be upgraded.
For you personally, it sounds like a closed development environment is better, since you're testing critical business applications.  Again, one never knows exactly what direction Microsoft will take, but with the amount of conversations and...
warnings that dropped by various people at this meeting, it's pretty safe to say that they'll be some sort of timed release schedule for enterprises that you can prepare for.
    Hope that helps!

  • Installation of Developer Workplace fails at Phase 11

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Developer Workplace 7.01 MaxDB on a Virtual Box instance running Windows XP SP2. The Virtual Machine has 1 GB of RAM and about 8 GB of free disk space. (The aim is to run a local version of the ISA Webshop.

    51037094 (Developer Workplace 7.01)
    51038550_9 (RDBMS_MaxDB_7.8.01_Build_14)

I have just downloaded the latest release of MaxDB, but I understand from the note that this version is not compatible with NW 7.07 without additional steps.
Thanks for the Note, I will try download MaxDDB 7.7 and try again with that version right away.

  • Building Installer Crashes Developement System LV2014SP1

    Dear Community
I have again a major problem which can not be reproduced up to now.
    Hopefully somebody has an idea.
I have  a large project (including some LV classes, dll Calls (Hdf5), and Network shared Variables) which was fine since about one month ago.
Now I did some work on the project: The building of the application still works fine but then ************************
when I want to create the installer of the application (not depending on the additional installers I use) the whole developement system crashes completely.
The last line of the application builder progress window shows:
    Adding file:
    Labview Elemental IO-error.txt
It seems when it trys to add this file the system crashes and I am not able to build the installer.
This is a major problem because we need to roll out the new version to the costumer.
Hope somebody has an idea what to test next (I already did intense testing even on a different computer with the same project **so even the developement system installation may not be corrupt**)
Eventually there may be a problem with my 'alway include' files but I dont know where and w.
    Hope you have some idea
    Thanks
    Nottilie

I think I found the problem and unfortunately it seems to be related to the Viewpoint TSVN Toolkit.
See the following log from the crash report:
    <DEBUG_OUTPUT>

What does creating a LabVIEW installer have to do with icon overlays? I have no idea, but I know something that is LabVIEW related that uses icon overlays in the project – the Viewpoint TSVN Toolkit!  I promptly uninstalled the toolkit and I was able to build all 4 of my installers without a hitch multiple times.  Additionally, I’ve noticed that LabVIEW is much more responsive and launch time has been cut from ~60sec to ~20sec.
Although this seemed to have fixed the problem (I tested on two machines both exhibiting the same behavior and both having the toolkit installed) I am dissapointed that I no longer have the TSVN toolkit because it was extremely useful.
I recently upgraded to the latest 1.8.2.23 version of the TSVN toolkit, I'm going to instead install the previous version(s) until I see the problem go away (hopefully.)
Does anybody here use the latest TSVN toolkit and have zero issues building an installer that has an app that uses shared variables? I'm not sure if the shared variables part is relevant but it might be.

  • Installation of Developer Suite 10g on XP Home Edition

    Dear all,
I downloaded Develope Suite 10g (9.0.4.0.1) from OTN and tried to install on a notebook with XP Home Edition.
The installation failed with the error message that the 'C:\Document \<Userid>\Local Settings\Temp folder is either not writable or no sufficient disk space of 55MB.'
I can manually copy files and folders more than 55MB into the Temp folder. So the problem does not seem to be disk space or writablity.
I am wondering if software can be installaed on XP Home Edition. Would appreciate any advices.
    Thank you.

So - what should I do? Installer cann't find file - but it should be there - because the copy-files section of installation wizard was successful... So - if I restart the installation - I cann't see what can be different??? It seems to me that I cann't do nothing now? Is there any solution for this?
Well - I have remained some 6% of setting up and full configuration wizard... How can I complete this??

    I have found thread:
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=2118383#2118383
which is exactly for me - so - can one make some preconfiguration steps? It seems strange, that one should check file by file the installation already prepared and tested by Oracle? I am not sure is this the right practice in production environment... well - and I am not sure if it works at all - it can take much time without result...

  • Headstart installation with developer 6i

    Hi,
I've installed Developer 6i under NT
    Installed designer 6 under NT.
    Now want to install Headstart.
    Installed 2.1.2 with installer. OK.
Want to server-side install according to readme file.
Unable to start form HSDINST.fmx because it is compiled with an older version of forms.
There is no fmb fil available to compile with developer 6i.
    How do I continue ?

In order to install Headstart 2.1 in a Forms 6 environment, you need patch 10. You can download patch 10 from OTN at http://technet.oracle.com/products/headstart/ (press the Software button).
Included in patch 10 are instructions how to do a fresh install in a Forms 6 environment.
    regards,

    Cordialement.

  • Installation NetWeaver Developer subscription

    Hi all,
I have bought the NetWeaver Developer package. If I understand the installation procedure right, the first step is to install a Solution Manager, as this is necessary for subsequent installtions and updates of the NetWeaver components.
The installation master, which is part of the software package, does not provide the installation of a solution manager. Am I wrong? Is the installation for the Solution Manager not neccassary? If not, how can I obtain a SOLMAN-installation key for the installation of e.g. the WebAS? And how can I get actual support packages?
    Any help is appreciated
    Nick
P.S: When I install a SOLMAN in order to install and update NW components: Do I have to install both parts of SOLMAN, ABAP and Java?

    Hi,
I'm in a very similar situation, I'd also like to buy a Netweaver Dev Pack.
They say in Dev Pack's FAQ that you should contact your local sales organzation to obtain one, so I did about a month ago and I even got a reply from a sales guy that he contacted the appropriate person, but this person haven't contacted me since, so i don't know what to think. Whenever I ask the sales guy why the other guy haven't contacted me yet he tells me he asked him again, I should be contacted any time now, but still nothng.
This product was on sale originally in the USA and Germany, maybe you should contact their sales organization for info.

  • Minimal OCCI installation for development

    Hi everyone,
I am currently developing an OCCI (C++) application for deployment on 9i. While doing so, I wonder whether there is some way of installing a minimum set of headers and libraries for development ?
Installing files at random from the CDs in order to get the correct combination of OCI and OCCI headers/libraries does not seem to be the way out (if ever).
Has anyone got a clean cut way of installing a "development kit" for developing these kinds of apps?
Or have any hints as to documentation ?
(FYI: OS is Solaris 8 with Sun Forte C++ 6)

In the Oracle Universal Installer, choose a custom install and select only to install the OCI stuff. The OUI will install all the required support files. This will be the smallest supported install possible.
Or are you looking for a "more minimal" solution?

  • Installation of Developer 10g Suit on Windows Vista Home Premium

I want to install developer 10g on Windows Vista. I try to install release 10g Release 2 but it gives me error that current operation system is 6.0 but can be installed on 5.2 and 5.4
Is there any compatible version available for vista or any sepcial settings are required for it.
    Could you help me please?
    Reards
    Muhammad Afzaal.

According to metalink Note:414574.1 Developer Suite 10g R2 is not certified on Vista and there are no plans to certify it.
But for the client certification it is certified with some combinations if JRE and IE7, you might want to check the [url http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gR2/clientsod_forms10gR2.html]Client Platform SOD 10g R2 for more information.

  • Installation of Developer Suite 10g in Linux

    Hi,
I've done the configuration of Developer Suite 10g on Windows OS. But i want to know how can i configure the Developer Suite 10g in Linux platform.
Any link for this would help me a lot.
I have done some configuration, but i'm facing some problems with it. Like i've compiled the form in windows version, but when i try to compile the form in
linux, i'm facing the problems. In the form there are some libraries attached to it. When compiled in Windows, it got compiled successfully, but when i compile it
in Linux, it is unable to find the procedures and function in the libraries. To come out of this situation, i've placed all the libraries and the forms in a single folder. still
the problem exists. It is giving an error saying that the Invalid identifier, whereever i've mentioned the procedures/functions of libraries. Even in windows, i've all
the forms and libraries in the same folder.

First of all which Linux....????I am successful in installing it. It is Redhat Linux 5.0 Enterprise edition. But i'm facing the problem in configuring it.
I checked out from Oracle web site, this linux version supports the Developer Suite 10g. If u can send me any document
or any link which u felt that it is very useful, then Please let me know.
Have you checked if it is registered with DevSuite10g...???How to check this ..
    "I have done some configuration.."
    Which....????
I've set the forms path so that i can run the forms using the url in the browser. But i feel that my configuration is incomplete. As i've mentioned already that when my form is
compiled in the windows, it is getting compiled. But when i compile in linux, it is showing the error like Invalid Identifier. Here the Identifier name it is dispalying is the name of function(Which
    is in the attached library).
