Installation of Discoverer 4i

After installing Discoverer 4i on a NT Server workstation, there is not an option for Edit Preferences under Orarcle Discoverer Server 4i setup.
Also, when I try to start the OracleDiscoverer4i service I get the following message:
The OracleDiscoverer4i service returned service specific error 9.

Check out the NT Event Viewer and gatekeeper and locator log files for more detailed debugging information.

  • Installer for Discoverer 11g doesn't start

I'm trying to install Discoverer on CentOS 5 x64.
As OS user oracle, immediately after executing ./runInstaller :
[ERROR]: Installer has encountered an internal Error. Contact Oracle support with details
    [EXCEPTION]: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
Looking in the log, the stack trace indicates the method that caused this is startOperation.
    Any ideas?
    One more clue:
starting runInstaller from the linux subdirectory works fine.
starting it from the root install or linux64 subdirectory causes the above problem

    Hi Michael,
I have not installed on Windows XP, but according to the certification matrix on OTN here . It is supported for single-user use on Windows XP and Vista client OS's.
10g and 11g can co-exist as long as there are no port conflicts and you have the resources (CPU/Memory). They use different ranges and defaults. Both are pretty good about detecting ports in use (on Linux anyways) so if you have the resources, you may want to have 10g running. If not, there is still the option of the manual static port assignments. You should be OK if running each separately.
11g is quite a bit more "modularized" which makes it more flexible for only installing the parts you want (some may say more complex, just different).

    Steve.

  • Win95-Installation of Discoverer User edition

If have installed the User Edition on a win95 computer. But now i have problems with my seriell connections. One programm of psion can4t connect to the palm and the computer is very slow.
Which dll would be installed into win95?
    What is the Problem

Are you sure the Discoverer installation was the only change made to your computer? Discoverer doesn't use any serial ports, nor does any of our code try to deal with ports. Many of us here have PDA's and are not affected by installing Discoverer software.

  • Installation of Oracle Discoverer for PeopleSoft and Oracle apps(11.5.10)

    Hello Gurus,
I hope I am in the right forum. I have been assigned to install Oracle Discoverer for Oracle ERP (11.5.10). We currently have a Oracle Discoverer environment for Peoplesoft. My questions are follows.
    1. Can I use the existing Oracle Discoverer which is used to get PeopleSoft data for Oracle Applications (11.5.10) ?? This way I avoid installing another copy of Discoverer. In Future, if we could use the existing technology for other Databases.
    2. If I go in for a new install of Oracle Discoverer, what is that I need to install ? I am guessing, there should be
    1. Desktop application on the client
    2. Do I need to install anything on the server ?
    3. I will have a Oracle Discoverer database
I guess 1. (Desktop application) would be installed on all desktops ? Is there a web based thingy ?? For 2 and 3 I would require the DBA's to help me out.
Would anyone have a high level diagram of the things that go in for installation ? I would really appreciate if you could send it to kiranramachandra at yahoo dot com.
    Thanks folks
    Kiran

    Hi,
    1. No, you don't need to reinstall Discoverer, you can just connect to the new database provided you have updated the TNSNames.ora file. However, before you can connect with Discoverer Desktop you will need to use Discoverer Admin to create a new Apps mode EUL in the Applications Database.
    2. You will need a client installation of Discoverer (Admin and Desktop). If you want to use the web based Discoverer Plus and Viewer tools you will need to a Oracle Application Server installation. If you are installing Discoverer 10g then you should install the Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition. But depending on your version and configuration you may need to install other tools.

There is a technical Note: 123675.1 available via Oracle Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com) that describes how to install Discoverer where you have multiple Oracle homes.

  • Installation problem on W2k computers with Pentium 4 CPU

The installation of Discoverer 4.1.37 stops before it is finished and says - Installation successful!
Every unnecessary service is stopped prior to installation,
The almost installed application can't start and generates and application error in Windows when I try.
This event only occurs on computers with an Intel Pentium 4 processors....!
Anyone else? Patch for this? Workaround?

You can look at the intel support site. They have the explanation and the solution for that problem. The problm i's related to a file named sys*.dll. They tel you exactly what file it's the poblem and How you can obtain a new version of that file.

  • Can't Create Saved Connection in 11g (Discoverer Plus).

We're getting ready to go live with a new installation of Discoverer Weblogic 11g, but we have run into a problem. We are getting errors when we have any user try to create a saved login connection from their login screen. We hit "Create Connection" and enter all the required login info (as we always did with our 10g version), but when we hit 'Apply' or 'Apply and Connect' we get the following errors.......
    A connection error.
    - Oracle BI Discoverer Viewer cannot save the connection. Check for other errors.
    - ORA-04063: package body "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" has errors ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" ORA-06512: at line 1
Users can login just fine when they enter all their info on the login screen, this is only happening when we try to create the saved connection. Is anyone else running into this on 11g? Is there a setting we are missing or something? Maybe something in the pref.txt file? Any help would be appreciated, especially since we are being asked to go live soon. Thanks!
    Here is our system setup:
    Oracle BI Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.4.0)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 11g (11.1.1.4.0)
    Discoverer Model - 11.1.1.4.0
    Discoverer Server - 11.1.1.4.0
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0
End User Layer Library - 11.1.1.4.0
    Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Java Virtual Machine:     Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0_29
JVM Memory Available:     9046KB out of 37372KB
Operating System:     x86 Windows XP 5.1
Using protocol: RMI protocol over JRMP transport

    Additional info:
Based on the error messages, we can see something is wrong with the package being called. We had a long running help ticket with Oracle opened, but in our opinion, it was not really resolved. We provided the following info after a request from Oracle....
The package does exist. The package is valid but the package body is invalid due to missing dependant objects
    It is owned by PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.
The database version is 11.2.0.1.0 (64 bit)
    SQL> select OWNER, OBJECT_TYPE
    +2 from all_objects+
    +3 where object_name = 'WWSSO_API_PRIVATE';+
    OWNER OBJECT_TYPE
    PROD_DISCOVERER_PS PACKAGE
    PROD_DISCOVERER_PS PACKAGE BODY
We have tried to recomplie the package, still invalid.
After some further questions we were asked to provide info on the app_registry.......We got an error when trying that.......
The app_registry object does not exist ...
    SQL> connect sys as sysdba
    Enter password:
    Connected.
    SQL> select comp_id,version,status from app_registry;
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
In the end (after a lot of back and forth), Oracle could not reproduce our problem on their test system. Because their test system uses Enterprise Edition and we installed Standard Edition, their solution was that the issue is caused because we are using Standard Oracle DB and we should be using Enterprise Edition. Creating a saved connection doesn't sound at all like something that would be affected by Standard or Enterprise edition. That's not an easy "solution" for us right now, and we can use a real fix. That's like taking your car into the shop because your blinkers don't work on your 2010 model car and the dealer's solution is "Oh, your 2010 car blinkers don't work? We have a 2011 model and they work just fine. You'll need to buy a 2011 car so the turn signals function."

    2. shall i need to install this application server 10g with new user or with root user can i install the software. Please see the installation manual.
In the same link referenced above, click on Documentation tab just next to the Download tab and you find yourself at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/documentation/index.html

  • Installer of Desktop and Administrator 11g  for x64

Anybody knows if there are any plans to release an x64 installer for Discoverer Desktop and Discoverer Administrator(11g).
    Edited by: user5629916 on 30-jun-2010 9:40

    Hi
I have done some more investigation on your behalf and would like to point you to Oracle Support note *233047.1*. Here's the link to the website: https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html
In there are several useful questions and answers about Discoverer. The one that will be of interest in your situation is this one:
Q: Are Discoverer 11g Administrator and Desktop certified to install on 64-bit Windows clients?
A: No, at the time of this posting, the certification spreadsheet specifically only lists 32-bit Windows clients (XP, Vista, 7). At this time certification with Windows 64-bit client operating systems is being evaluated for a future patch set, post patchset 3. This document will be updated when the certification is announced.
If you try to install on Windows 64-bit operating systems, you will receive a warning like this when you run setup.exe from the /Disk1 directory.
You may workaround this by installing from ..\Disk1\install\win32 and running setup.exe from there; however, as stated at this point it is specifically not certified on 64bit Windows client operating systems; therefore, we cannot accept Service Requests for functional issues.
By the way, I did have one of my clients only yesterday successfully install Desktop and Administrator 11g onto Windows 7 64 bit. Here is one of their comments: I am running on Windows 7 64 bit.  The 11.1.1.3.0 has both 32 bit and 64 bit available. It seems if you are running on 32 bit you would choose XP mode and the 64 bit by default compatible with Vista
    Best wishes

  • Where is Oracle Discoverer download?

    Dear OTN,
Under Middleware downloads, you have a link called Oracle Business Intelligence and another called Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer. Both take you to the same place - download links for 10g AS rel 1, rel 2, or rel 3. I downloaded rel 3 - nothing in its installation about Discoverer. I've been working with Oracle products for 19 years, expect I'll find it somewhere after numerous downloads, blind alleys, etc. How is a relatively inexperienced user of OTN going to find it? And I would love a hint so I don't have to spend a lot of time looking.
    Warren Capps

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Much appreciated.
However, you must understand that it is not obvious to casual observer when they follow your download links that 10gAS rel 2 is what they are looking for when they want Oracle Discoverer and are faced with 3 10g AS choices.
