Installation of MSI Star-USB3 with downloaded driver

Dear sirs,
I downloaded the driver for MSI Star-USB3 and I saw in the release note that I first need to install this driver and than the card. Would it make much difference or could it do harm if I first install the card and then this driver, because when I do HP Recovery (=format and all software install again) I have to remove this card first otherwise the card is first and this driver is second installed? If I can install the card first and this driver second, I can keep the card in the computer and I don't have to take it out when I do HP Recovery.
Thanks in advance, Mike098.

Dear sirs/madams,
Yes, you can install the downloaded driver, now Renesas 2.0.34.0, after you have installed the MSI Star_USB3 card in the computer. This way is much more simpler when you have to do a system restore from a image partition. No problems are detected. USB3.0 ports are working with my USB Flash Drive 100% OK!
Kind regards, Mike098.

  • MSI Star-USB3 - Please help!

    G'day,
I have installed it according to instructions (incl. connecting the internal connector), and the blue led light is on (on the rear of the card).
However my usb 3 samsung story hdd shows a connection of only 2.0 (green light) not 3.0 (blue light). Any suggestions?
If the blue light is showing on the msi usb3 card does that mean it is def running at 3.0? Is there any way I can test this?
Sorry I'm a newbie and only semi literate in these matters.
    Thanks Darren
PS I am running a windows 7 Dell 64 bit system.

Seems to be installed just fine.
If it still won't do it, run it again with all onboard USB controllers turned off, so we are sure they don't bite each other.
Else try Windows 32bit to verify it's not a 64bit Windows problem.
Well, I ran into the very same problem with a Verbatim desktop hard drive USB3 - 2TB, at the same MSI adapter card.
    I use Win7 - 32bit, fully patched, latest MSI RENESAS-USB3-Host-Driver-20320 driver.
There's just no way the HDD would run at USB3, just at USB2.
Connected at USB2, I could perform format etc., even the message it could perform faster at USB3.
But connecting USB3, zero luck again.
I found lots of similar messages with Google but no clear answers.
Maybe incompatible chips are involved, maybe wrong firmware or MSI drivers.
Then someone suggested the kind of obsolete NEC USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver v.1.0.20.0.
So I just did and bang that worked!!

Bad thing is the mentioned poster noticed same problem again after some weeks, but it indicates it's comes down to driver issues.

  • MSI Star-USB3/SATA6 raid 0/1 ???

    Hello,
I would like to buy Star-USB3/SATA6 controller, because it has both new technologies. I ordered two disks WD1002FAEX, which I want set in RAID 1. Chip Marvell 9128 should support RAID 0/1, but I cannot find if it is really possible with this controller or not. Could me anybody help who has got this controller? Is it possible to run RAID 0/1 and how? Thank you

There's no mention whatsoever of RAID on the Star-USB3/SATA6 product page:
    http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/Star-USB3-SATA6.html#?div=Overview
So I would guess the answer that RAID is not available with this card. But you can ask MSI to confirm:

  • Problems with downloading driver from HP website

I have purchased a used HP Deskjet 2050 All in 1 printer. The installation CD is cracked and cannot be used. I have gone to the website and downloaded the driver for my printer ( have Windows Vista 32 bit), following the instructions step by step.
The last window that pops up asks if I want to install the driver modem, I click yes, the box stays on the screen showing the progress bar until it is done, then goes away. Then nothing......no install wizard or any instructions to complete the installation. I also have tried the add a printer on my Control Panel/printer screen, but my device is not listed in the selections available. Is there something else i should do....or should I just order the CD?

You could possibly be having problems with the desktop computer that is keeping the installation from completing.  The laptop is probably Windows 7 whereas Vista can make installations harder sometimes.

Click my link for detailed instructions on what to do.  Let me know if you get any error messages please and also I will need to know if you are trying to install the printer USB or wireless.
I will be happy to help.

  • MSI Star USB3/Sata6 Card Add-On

    Hi all,
Just bought the card recently and it is connected to a OCZ VERTEX2 SATAII 120G. After that try out the CrystalDiskMark and the READ speed is only around 187Mb/sec. Been using a Asus P5Q Pro Turbo Mobo(P45) and Q6600 cpu.Does anyone know how to increase the speed capacity to the fullest at 270Mb/sec? Thanks for the help.....

    Quote
Thats why I bought this MSI add on pci-e to improve the speed.Any suggestion?
Sorry but I fail to see how you expect using a SATA 6Gb/s card to vastly improve the performance of a SATA 3Gb/s drive.
Does your mainboard not have any SATA controller?

  • STAR USB3 speed problem

    Hi,
I bought a MSI STAR USB3 card and a TOSHIBA STORE ART4 500Gb external hdd (it has an USB3 port).
The problem is that the hdd works with max. USB2 speed (~40MB/s).
I've made a firmware update (now 3028) and use the latest driver (2.1.19.0). Source: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/nec.htm
I use an USB3 cable come with the hdd. It seems that everything is OK but the speed is max. 40MB/s.
USB3 card is connected to PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot but the same problem was experienced when it was connected to PCI-E x1.
    My motherboard is ASUS M4A785T-M.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • AHCI on Marvell - Star USB3/SATA6 addin card

    Hello all,
I've recently bought a MSI Star USB3/SATA6 add in card. Pluged-in on my mobo PCI-I 16x port (didn't had a 4x). Everthing worked fine. Attached a USB3 HDD (external enclosure), fine.
Attached a WD 1TB black SATA III ... and .. fine ... well, sort of. It is working, installed as a boot drive with Win7x64 and it goes well.
Nevertheless, I noticed during boot, the controller screen (with CTRL-M) say "CPU IDE" mode. Windows, before installing the Marcell drive (form teh cd and latest) recognize it as IDE ports ...
Accessing the marvell cnsole screen on boot, with CTRL-M, I cannot find a "changeable" to modify the access type (IDE -> AHCI) mode. (not RAID mode as I dont' have 2 disks!).
Can someone have any experience with this addin board and advice?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Carlos F.
    Specs:
Asus p5E mobo, Addin card on 16x slot, Card Bios: 1.0.0.1027, Card Fw: 2.1.0.1504, Marvel sata drivers 1.0.0.1051.

After doing much searching on the net for a "how to" I ended up registering here JUST to get that attachment above and try it. Man, am I glad I did.
THANK YOU, the AHCI go.bat files were exactly what I needed for my card and flashing the bios. I now have double the speeds I had in IDE mode.
Random read/write went from 6679/10411 to 25970/43065 and my seq read/write went from 176/120 to 400/266.
I used the Samsung magician app(840 pro ssd) to apply Rapid mode and optimized everything using the Magician software as well.
Until I found this thread Magician software was giving me the "This drive can perform faster in AHCI mode blah blah". So I googled to make a USB Bootable Flash Drive which was pretty darn easy(google HPUSBDISK.EXE & WIN98boot) then I copied the files in the attachment above(binfolder and go.bat) to the root of the bootable drive and changed my boot sequence in the bios to make the USB the first devise to boot. The USB booted and I typed go.bat at the prompt and pressed "Y" then waited. Shazam a couple boots later Windows configured my drives as AHCI and my speed increased.
I did receive an error of ID when flashing, it said the firmware ID was for a different card ID but it flashed all 7 sections of flash, hit enter at the end and told me it was successful.
So, just trying to confirm with a brief description/guide for the next guy, this thread is still serving a purpose even as old as it is, please forgive me for reviving it. The CPU Whisperer ....Thank you for the the attachment and info.

  • Star-USB3 disconnecting

Bought this card recently but can't actually use it.  Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller (also Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Root Hub) keep disappearing/dropping out of the Device Manager. This happens during file transfers when USB 3.0 bus is utilized. Other people have this problem with this controller, according to posts on different forums.
Tried everything I could think of: latest drivers (newer than the ones on MSI site), updated the card firmware to 3028, tried 3 different PCI-E slots, disabled USB 3.0 power management functions, reset motherboard BIOS to default, tried different BIOS settings, turned off/on relevant Win 7 Advanced power settings (USB and PCI-E power management). Nothing works. MSI Star-USB3 keeps dropping out of the system and thus all USB 3.0 devices connected to the motherboard via this card get disconnected.
Running out of ideas. Is there a solution?

Unfortunately, no BIOS update is available for the board. Already using the latest. I didn't try the PCI-E card in another PC but I did try another MSI Star-USB3 in my PC and it didn't work also. This one is working in another PC, no problem. However, I have several PCI and PCI-E devices on the board and never had any similar problems with them. Not to eager to buy another board because of one (maybe) incompatible device.

  • Star-USB3 + WD MyBook keeps reconnecting

I just bought a Western Digital MyBook Essential 2 TB, which has a USB 3.0 connection. To be able to use this, I bought an MSI Star-USB3 controller.
I installed it without a problem, but whenever I connect my external HDD, it randomly disconnects the drive an reconnects it again. Sometimes this happens every second, sometimes it stays connected for half a minute, but then it disconnects again. The MyBook works perfectly on my other USB 2.0 ports, so I assume it's the controller.
I plugged this controller in in the top PCI Express slot on my MSI P6N SLI V2 motherboard. This motherboard has another PCI Express slot but this is blocked by my VGA's cooling fan.
I have to say, the Star-USB card only just fitted above my graphics card, I think there's only about a millimeter or 2 between the black 'casing' of the USB controller and the top (or bottom) of my graphics card. It definitely doesn't touch anywhere though.
I think I installed all the right drivers (I first tried the one on the CD and on the website) and updated the firmware from my MyBook, but it still keeps dis/reconnecting...
Does anyone know what the problem here could be and what I might do about it? Could it be that the controller has RF-interference from the graphics card or something?
    Thanks for your help.

Hi there... im running an MSi X58 Gd-65 and it's DOING THE SAME THING.
the USB keeps going in and out randomly.
somehow... my keyboard never gets disconnected completely... but the lags happen when typing then it'll go away,
    then it'll come back.
    just like my mouse.
AND MY wireless internet whcih is on USB.
i have the latest USB controllers ... per MSI Live 5.
and yes, my mouse works fine on other comp and as does my keyboard and usb wireless.

  • I have reinstalled with Canons driver kit 2005b för Windows 7 64 bit. All works fine until the scann

    Hi!
After Windows update in april 2014 I cant any longer use the scanning funktion via network from Canon MF8330 Cdn multifunktion printer/fax/scanner machine! It worked fine Before the april Windows update installation.
I have reinstalled with Canons driver kit 2005b för Windows 7 64 bit. All works fine until the scanner installation ends, then system report that it cannot install the scanner and I have to try installing again. I have done that now several times but it helps not. I Think it has something to do with that the Canon scanner drivers isn´t 64 bit files, or the problem is that windows update has replaces saome dll file to a never version that not work with Canon drivers.
I have seen that there is a service pack 1 from Canon för Windows 8 and 8,1, can I use that service pack to get a never dll file for scanner or work this only for windows 8 version.
Have someone a solution to this! I have contacted the Canon support already and they say that its a Microsoft problem!
Very thanful for help in this case!
    Greetings
    Sixten
    Hi!
I am installing the drivers from Canons site. It is the newest version 2005b for Windows 7 64 bit to MF8330Cdn Canon multifunction printer/fax/scanner. Installation goes well for the printer and fax but not for scanner drivers. The error message is Could not install the scanner. In device manager is there then a unknown device under Image devices. In Device Manager I try to update drivers, but it does not help either, error message is access denied. I am logged on the system with administrator account, therfore it is strange that I get the error message access denied.
I tried earlier to do system restore back to previous time, but it did not work, error was that the system could not do the system restore because of access rights.
is there anything else I could do.
Here is the MF36SCN.inf file for scanner installation from Canon, if it can help You to go further with the problem. Is there something strange in the inf file that does not work in Windows 7 64 bit Windows, something shows that ther is also same 32 bits parts in the inf file.
    Greetings
    Sixten

How I fixed it, at least for now:
    1. I've been using OC Genie for a few days, it has been working great on Windows but I guess it was causing many games to crash to the desktop so I decided to turn it off, since then the memory issue started to happen, since this morning.
    2. I can only think of my computer got OC Genie addicted, like addiction to crack or cocaine, and the memory, or call it nervous system, wanted more OC Genie, so it gave it to him and bingo, my 4GB readable, but then I used of trickery and deceit to disable OC Genie again and my 4GB is back again without OC Genie.
    Hope this helps someone.

Also try posting in the iTunes forum since it is not an iPod touch problem.

  • MSI H61M E33 B3 audio driver with xp x64

The realtek driver provided in the installation CD didn't work nor the driver in the download section of the product
Tried the realtek driver from realtek website, that too, didn't work
In xp x64, no sound at all
This is the 2nd time I had so much trouble with MSI product, the 1st one is the bad quality MSI FX400 , which fan and optical drive dead for no apparent reason, and the MSI distributor in Indonesia (PT Alfa Artha Andhaya) doesn't give a about the notebook at all, they just tell me to go to another 3rd party service center which charges me around 2 millions rupiah, and disregarded about the MSI warranty on the notebook, with that kind of money, I could even buy a new other brand notebook
Have MSI sunk so low ?
Can anyone help me ? or willing to help, to be more precisely
    With regards,
    Johnny

If you want help it's bad idea to introduce yourself with bashing posts. Please stop that MSI bashing.
The Realtek driver works problem must be elsewhere. What means it doesn't work? No sound on front or rear panel connectors? Are sure to have used XP64 and not XP32 drivers? Does devbice manager of windows show the device unknown or with an exclamation mark?
I only use rear panel because of my 5.1 setup, and the speaker works perfectly in windows 8 x64 and ubuntu
My machine use triple boot OS'es >>> xp x64, win 8 x64, and ubuntu
And yes, there are several exclamation marks in device manager, and the realtek driver doesn't work at all, I installed all the other  xp x64 driver from the product support section
I have erased the xp x64 partition, and I tried to install the realtek driver in xp x64 virtual machine, and it even shows the same symptoms, either failed install or successfull install with no sound at all, and sound section of the control panel, said "no audio device"
This is the first time I encountered so many problem with one mobo during years of my computer hobby
Yes, I want help, but I don't count much on it
MSI may ban me, MSI is very much welcome to take any further actions on me
