Installation of NET Config hangs on 9i

Hallo everybody,
I tried to install the enterprise edition of the DB on a Windows 2003 machine. When the NET configuration starts it says just "processing" but nothing else happens. Where can I start to search for the error? Thanks a lot!!!

Did you follow all requirements? 2003 Release 2 requires at least patchset 9.2.0.7 and 2003 Release 1 at least patchset 9.2.0.3 .

• Midtier Installation Problem - Net config assistant hangs

Hi,
During installation of midtier 9.0.2 on Linux AS, Oracle Net Configuration assistant alone hangs. Retried it many times but the problem is persistant. Could someone please give me directions. My installer is still running.
The system has 1GB RAM and more than 10GB disk space. All my RAM except 6MB are used up.
File sysctl.conf has the following lines:
kernel.shmmin=1
kernel.sem = 100 32000 100 100
kernel.shmmax = 607483648
kernel.shmmni = 100
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
fs.file-max = 65536
At the beginning of installation the system had 1GB+ swap space. Now it has .6GB swap space.
I tried the manual configuraion. Directory schema gets created fine but the net listener port conflicts with the existing listener of infrastructure. Should I assign a different port? Can I perform the configuration after the installation process?
Thanks,
Karthik

It doesn't hang anymore. Just make sure you use fully qualified domain names, for the host (Get a ping reply to make sure). Alternatively, set it up in /etc/hosts.
I recommend using neat for all this. I've tried tu edit the files manually with vi, which didn't work too.
The only problem now is, when I configure the listener, the whole Universal Installer crashes. I re-installed several times, and yet the same thing happens. I even used the recommended JDK, and uninstalled the IBM-Java which was included with Redhat AS 2.1 I can't believe how unstable the whole thing is. All this is really frustrating.

• Listener problem while configuring host string through NET config

Hi,
I am unable to create host string through Net config. While testing with userid/password, the test does not succeed.
The host string configured is known as PROCESS.
Net config error message while testing the connection is as follows:

Upon checking the status of listener from command prompt it gives following status:

Did you check that the DB is up ? If not, then check it and, eventually, start it up.
If yes, then open a DOS window, set your ORACLE_SID, connect to Sqlplus as sysdba and type :
SQL> show parameter service
what is the result ?

• Oracle Net config assistant not opening on windows.

Hi,
I installed Oracle 9i server on a windows XP machine on Friday, 2nd December. I configured the listener service, netconfig name and my application was up and running.
Today I wanted to make some changes in the listener service; but the net config assistant window is not coming up. New processes launch.exe and jrew.exe are starting in the background with each attempt to launch.
I made sure I am logged in as the same user which installed Oracle on the machine(having ORA_DBA privilages), gave the full control privilages to this user. But the net config assistant is still not opening up.
Could anyone help in this regard.
Thanks
Puneet

Has anyone of you seen this problem before??
Kindly reply asap.
Thanks

Hi,
Which service did you want to stop in "Services"? Actually, as I know, there's no such a "net config server" service in "Services".
Or did you mean this?

• Linux 9i install hangs at Net Config Assistant

I am installing 9i on Red Had 7.3 and the install program just stops when it gets to the Net Configuration Assistant. No err, but the process using up > 90% of the CPU. All the buttons on the install GUI are greyed out, so there is no way to go with the install of the rest of the tools.
In the install I also had an make err with OraHome1/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk.
Can you help me out with this?
Regards, Cary

I found the solution to the ins_ctx.mk issue at http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml. To cut to the issue, here is what worked:
Edit $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk and go to "INSO_LINK =", add a "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" to the line and save it.
Here is the full line with the added "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" flag:
INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)dl $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fa $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ex $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_da $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ut $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ch $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fi $(LLIBCTXHX) $(LDLIBFLAG)c -Wl,-rpath,$(CTXHOME)lib $(CORELIBS) $(COMPEOBJS)
After that hit retry in the error popup.
If you go to the page, the requied entry is bolded in the section where it has been added (its the third entry), making it much easier to see.
The page is an excellent guide to installing Oracle. However, it did not offer guidance to the Net Configuration problem, which I am also encountering. Anyone else have any info?

• Issue in 11.1.2 Essbase configuration on Linux 5.5 64Bit - Config hangs

Hi Experts,
I am trying to do a fresh install and configure of EPM 11.1.2 in a distributed environment:
1. Oracle database version 11.20as repository on Linux server 1(linux 5.5, 64 bit) installed and working fine.
2. I installed and configured HSS on a Windows 2008 server SP1 64 bit - configured following: common settings, database,OCM,deploy to Application Server - Success. and I am able to open the HSS front end and check users,groups etc.
Now, I installed Essbase server,EAS server,ES server,EIS server on Linux server 2(5.5,64 bit).
The Problem is: When I am configuring Linux server 2(All the above mentioned Essbase components) -
Configurator asks for "Previously configured SS database"- I provide the details
next -> it asks for ES,EAS database schema -> I provide the details
next -> asks for weblogic domain information -> 2 options there -> I choose- > Deploy to an existing domain -> All the required info was already there(Windows server above)
BUT, when I click "next" -> the screen just Hangs and does not go anywhere. I waited for 1 hr and nothing happened.
So, I cancelled it and started the config again, but again the same issue.
the message on the linux server console are:
"HBR Configuration has not been initialized. Make sure you have logged in sucessfully and there are no exceptions in the HBR log file.
ConfigurationManager not available"
and No logs are generated under /oracle/Middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/diagnostics/logs/config
any help on this will be greatly appreciated!!
this is a bit urgent ..please reply.
thanks,
Ankit

Can we even have the following landscape?
1. HSS,OHS,Weblogic server,workspace - On a Windows 2008 server
2. Essbase server,EIS server,EAS server,EIS server - on a Linux server
3. Oracle database on another linux server.
my questions is, can we have the installation and configuration done considering the OS (wid and Linux), as described in points 1&2 above.
I guess I read somewhere, that all the web applications can be deployed to either all windows or to all Linux OS servers? - Is it correct?

• OIM 11g Installation - Oracle_IDM1/bin/config.sh : segmentation fault

Hello,
I'm installing all the components on a single machine : CentOS 5.5 64bits (equivalent to RH5.5).
Here are the steps that I followed :
1) I installed Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 and WebLogic Server Version: 10.3.3.0
2) I applied the Repository Creation Utility ofm_rcu_linux_11.1.1.3.3
3) I installed SOA Suite ofm_soa_generic_11.1.1.2.0 then patched it using ofm_soa_generic_11.1.1.3.0 (Installation without configuration)
4) I installed Oracle Identity and Access Management ofm_soa_generic_11.1.1.3.0
5) I created a Weblogic domain using +$ORACLE_MWHOME/Oracle_IDM1/common/bin/config.sh+
6) I started Weblogic and the Node Manager
7) When I run the configuration tool cd $ORACLE_MWHOME/Oracle_IDM1/bin then +./config.sh+ I had a segmentation fault error :
Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from /tmp/OraInstall2011-03-08_02-13-15PM. Please wait ..../config.sh: line 159: 11022 Segmentation fault      $INSTALLER_DIR/runInstaller -weblogicConfig ORACLE_HOME="$ORACLE_HOME" -invPtrLoc $ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc -oneclick $COMMANDLINE -Doracle.config.mode=true
when I run it using strace, I saw that the installer can't find a libc.mo file :
open("/usr/share/locale/en_US.UTF-8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en_US.utf8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en.UTF-8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en.utf8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
write(2, "./config.sh: line 159:  8897 Seg"..., 209./config.sh: line 159:  8897 Segmentation fault      $INSTALLER_DIR/runInstaller -weblogicConfig ORACLE_HOME="$ORACLE_HOME" -invPtrLoc $ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc -oneclick $COMMANDLINE -Doracle.config.mode=true
+) = 209+
So I made a symbolic link to one that actually exists :
sudo ln -s /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo
Now the installer can find it, but I still have a segfault :
open("/usr/share/locale/en_US.UTF-8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en_US.utf8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en.UTF-8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en.utf8/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES/libc.mo", O_RDONLY) = 3
+fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1474, ...}) = 0+
mmap(NULL, 1474, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, 3, 0) = 0x2b2d76c27000
close(3)                                = 0
write(2, "./config.sh: line 159:  9160 Seg"..., 209./config.sh: line 159:  9160 Segmentation fault      $INSTALLER_DIR/runInstaller -weblogicConfig ORACLE_HOME="$ORACLE_HOME" -invPtrLoc ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc -oneclick $COMMANDLINE -Doracle.config.mode=true
+) = 209+
Any idea on what would be the reason for that ?
Thanks in advance !

Not certified means in case of an error, you are on your own. Usual advice, try the same with a certified OS. If the issues persists, you can file a support ticket.

I have this recurrent error telling me C:\config.msi\PTA9D.tmp doesn't exist, I tried to install the new vesion instead of just updating but it doesn't work.
My actual version is reader 10.1.2 french installed the 01/13/12

What is your Windows version?
Can you try to right-click on the downloaded installer, then select Run as Administrator.
If that still does not do the trick, can you try downloading the MSI installer (10.1.0, French version) from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.0/fr_FR/AdbeRdr1010_fr_FR.msi

• NT Installation of Labview 6i hangs approximately 1/2 way through process

I am trying to install Labview 6i on NT 4.0 sp5. The
installation process hangs partway through the install
during the 'initialization' process.
I've let the system sit for over an hour before stopping the install, and some files are copied,
but it's not complete.
I've installed this on a different machine without any problems, so I'm not sure what's wrong.

You may find that the install is requesting help with a file, but the
request box does not go to the top and so remains hidden, waiting for
the operator to reply. Check by minimising all windows. I found that
copying the installation disk to HDD, and installing from there solved
my problem.

• Net config troubles...

We just set up a RHEL5 (Linux x86) server with Oracle 10GR2 (10.2.0.4). New database woriking fine.
Everything had been working fine until this morning when our SA made some network config changes on the server and bounced the server. It's also possible he may have made some changes in the dns.
Now, I can not get my listener to start or work since the server rebooted.
I get errors such as:
$ lsnrctl start
LSNRCTL for Linux: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production on 22-MAY-2008 13:47:30

Then, I check the HOSTNAME and can not ping it as the FQDN, but I can ping it by using just the abbreviated name.
Next, I checked the /etc/hosts file and it is nearly empty. Our SA has taken everything out of it except one line:
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost <ourservername>
Next, suddenly when I attempt to use GUI tools such as netca or even dbca, I am getting what look like java related errors.
$ netca &

Does anyone have any ideas? I think the first place that needs to be fixed is the /etc/hosts file, especially to include a line such as:
127.0.0.1 <ourserver.domain.com> <ourservername> localhost.localdomain localhost
Thanks in advance...
Ji li

Seems as though the problem was with the /etc/hosts file.
Everything is working now after I asked my SA to put the basic information back into the /etc/hosts file. But strange thing is that he said he never took anything out of it. He used some kind of GUI tool that apaprently comes with our Redhat Linux.
I would give a lot of appreciation to have a good network and sys admin... but I guess that's not something our company values enough. Of course, maybe that's why our IT department has the highest turnover I've ever seen in my entire working career.

• Installation of Sybase 16 hang on AIX

Hi all,
I attempted to install Sybase 16 on AIX platform. But it hang there. The directories created under sybase directory is as below. There is no log generated under log.
bash-3.2# oslevel -s
7100-02-02-1316
bash-3.2# lslpp -l bos.iocp.rte
      Fileset                      Level  State      Description
Path: /usr/lib/objrepos
      bos.iocp.rte              7.1.2.15  COMMITTED  I/O Completion Ports API
Path: /etc/objrepos
      bos.iocp.rte              7.1.2.15  COMMITTED  I/O Completion Ports API
bash-3.2# ls

SYSAM-2_0                jre64                    sybuninstall
bash-3.2# pwd
/opt/sybase16

I'd suggest running the command line version of the installer (setup.bin -i console) to eliminate any issues with the GUI tool.
During a 'normal' install you should see a series of files created in the log directory as each component of the install is processed.
