How many PC's and OS's do you have ;-) Installation of oracle 11gR2 in fedora 16
Supported OS versions are listed in the Install Doc - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/pre_install.htm#CIHFICFD
If you insist on using an unsupported OS, you are on your own.

  • Installation of Oracle 11gR2 hangs at 60% on OL 5.5

I am installing Oracle 11gR2 SEOne on an OL 5.5 platform. The install hangs at 60% with no errors, at the following step:
Copying files for 'Oracle Notification Service 11.2.0.0.0'
This is a fairly minimal Oracle Linux installation, but I have run the following and rebooted:
    # yum update
    # yum install oracle-validated
    # yum install kernel
    # yum install oracle-linux
I've also done my best to follow guidance from the Quick Install Guide for this platform (Linux x86_64).

It figures. After hanging for about 2 hours, I posted a question -- and suddenly the installation has started showing progress again. I guess that was just a long, slow step.
Thanks to all those Oracle dudes who answered my previous question, and got me to this stage!

  • Installation problem - Oracle 11gR2 Windows XP Professional SP 2

    Hello everybody!
I have a problem at the installation moment of Oracle 11g R2 on Windows XP Professional Edition with SP 2. Please help me!
This is my computer's hardware configuration:
    CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz x86
    RAM: 1 GB
    Hard disk: SATA 180 GB
    Graphic Card: PCI-Express nVidia 7300GS 256 MB
Network connection: LAN / Internet connection: ADSL
O.S. Windows XP Professional Edition SP 2 (and installed .Net framework 2.0)
    Antivirus: AVG 9.0 free edition
WEB Browser: Internet Explorer / Mozilla Firefox.
I tried to Install Oracle 11g R2 2 times, so I have formatted my computer 2 times because after the installation process, the Oracle Universal Installer don't respond.
Every time I installed the O.S., drivers, Antivirus, .Net Framework, Ms office, everything works properly.
I configured the network connection to use a fixed IP Address, I created the environment variables ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_UNQNAME (1st time its value was the same value of ORACLE_SID, 2nd time its value was the database global name) and then, I start the SETUP program, it run properly, but at the moment of finish the database creation this message appears: execute the commands: 1) define ORACLE_UNQNAME in database unique name 2) emctl.bat start dbconsole.
Through SQL Plus I can connect to the database, execute queries, the listener is working, but the database console service doesn't work. If I try to start it since command prompt (emctl start dbconsole) I get a message about the specific error 2.
    What can I do??
    Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I hope you are fine.
    I appreciate your help.
Jean-Valentin: I opened a DOS box (logged as the Administrator User who installed Oracle), I changed the ORACLE_SID value and the result of the commands:
    set ORACLE_SID=MGN
    emctl stop dbconsole
    emctl start dbconsole
    emctl status dbconsole
    was this one:
    C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010\BIN>emctl stop dbconsole
OC4J Configuration issue. C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_oraserver11_MGN not found.
Definitively, change the value of ORACLE_SID is not right. Then, I changed the ORACLE_SID again to its original value and the result was:
    C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010\BIN>emctl stop dbconsole

The OracleDBConsoleMGN service could not be started.
A service specific error occurred: 2.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3547.
Using the ORACLE_SID original name, at least the emctl shows the OracleDBConsoleMGN as not started when I try to stop.
schavali: When I executed the Oracle Installation, the database configuration assistant showed this message:
The Enterprise Manager configuration was success with this warning: Error at start up database control, execute the commands: and you know, here start our history.
And the 3 steps of the database configuration assistant shows this:
Copying database files : Success (correct mark)
Creating and starting up database instance: Success (correct mark)
Finishing database creation: Success (correct mark)
I'll try to check the information of the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/e10954/structure.htm#CACBBFGI
    and then, I write again.
This cannot be... Oracle always works properly... is powerful... what is going on???
Thanks guys, have a great day!

  • Installation problem Oracle 9i on SuSE Linux 7.2 s390

    Hi all
I've got a problem after having installed Oracle9i on a S390 box with SuSE linux 7.2. When I launch sqlplus, I've got the following message :
sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
It appears the shared library libclntsh.so.9.0 was not included in the tarball I've downloaded from the Oracle site.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks
    Frangois Basquin

Forget my question : I've found the answer in the document ID 158104.1. Even if my problem was not exactly the one mentioned (I hadn't any problem during compile time), the cure was good.

Request you to help me out in resolving the issue.

    Hi Helios
Thanks for the response. The database is still not created to check in the Alert log .It is still in the phase of pre-requisite checks. I did not go with Silent installation. It is a plain single instance installation.

  • Installation: Oracle 10g on SUSE Linux 10.1

Can this be? I sat for hours preparing my all new clean SUSE Linux 10.1 server for the installation of Oracle 10g (Standard Edition)... and when running the installer it simply tells me that SUSE 9 is needed...
I've found others here in the forum having experienced the same.
Maybe I just downloaded the wrong version of Oracle?
The main download page is at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
I selected entry "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86" (the one directly below the Windows version):
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201linuxsoft.html
The size of the file^^ is 668,734,007 bytes.
Or should i have downloaded entry "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.2) for z/Linux":
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10202zlinuxsoft.html
The size of the file^^ is 838,518,746 bytes.
By the way, all these versions on the main page should have some kind of description, something like "This is the Linux Version for most standard 32Bit single and multiprocessor Intel compatible servers."
Well, since I'm completely stuck now with SUSE 10.1, is there any way to make the Oracle installer go on that SUSE version? Maybe SUSE can pretend to be version 9... but how do I achieve something freaky as this?
Thanks for any help, comments, suggestions...
    Karsten

BTW, I think it's bad practice by Oracle not supporting SUSE 10.1.Actually, I think it is good practise for Oracle not to certify the public beta versions of an operating system.
Please remember that Fedora and SuSE Linux are cycled every 6-8 months, making then truly unstable for commercial purposes. IN addition, they are often desupported by the comminuty within 2-3 years, forcing upgrades. And finally, Both Red Hat and SuSE/Novell publically state that these are 'proving grounds for new features' (meaning they are beta).
Certification means that Oracle will invest heavily and train people on the specific operating system and work with the operating system supplier, 24x7 if needed, to make sure that customers will continue in production. I am not aware that the SuSE Linux or Fedora supporters are willing to put in 24x7 support they way the Red Hat and SuSE Enterprise groups are.
This does not imply the public OSs are bad. It just means that Oracle (and I) believe they are unsuited for commercial, business mission critical, immediate support required, environments.
By the way, I have the combination of Oracle10g and SuSE Linux 10.1 working, and it works well. However, I did need to make sure that the libraries to which Oracle10g was compiled are available in the OS.
Or maybe Sybase does better.... ;-pNot if the [glibc] libraries are incompatible. Nor does PostgreSQL nor MySQL.

  • SCAN Name issue in Oracle 11gR2 RAC Installation

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 11gR2 RAC on VM ware and I got the INS-40922 (Invalid SCAN name). Do I need to create the SCAN name prior to the installation?
I have public, private, and VIP's. I am not sure how I create this SCAN Name. Please share your thoughts
    Thanks

During installation of grid infrastructure SCAN will be automatically created. If you are using DNS then put the scan name and scan ip addresses entries in DNS . If you are not using dns/gns then put scanname and scan ipadress hosts file on each node in the cluster. Before installation, you should not be able to ping scan ipadresses.

The minimum requirements are in the installation guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/reqs.htm#CHDGJEJE
You need at least 1GB RAM for the database server, is it possible the OS and/or other applications already occupy more than 1GB, so you don't have enough memory for Oracle?

    Anyhelp ASAP is appreciated.

    No Srini,
I opted to create a starter database as part of the installation.
The error occurs "during installation" while trying to do the database configurations.
(I did try once without installing and configuring the Loopback adapter (With and without plugging into the network).
Later I read some of the problems with DHCP and installed/configured the Loopback adapter.
Then tried Installing Oracle 11gR2 (With and without plugging into the network)
But end up getting stuck at the same Net Configuration Assistant failure).
    Any advise ?
By the way, thanks for the support.

  • Dataguard installation oracle 11gr2 on windows 2008 server

    Hi,
I have oracle 11gr2 database on windows 2008 server. I have been given a primary and secondary server with the same setup.
Now i want to install dataguard. AFter installing i need to test it for disaster recovery.
Can anyone please suggest me a document for this? I searched in this forum but i couldnt get any.
    Please help.

An obvious place to look at is our Online Documentation about Data Guard Installation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17022/toc.htm
    See
3 Creating a Physical Standby Database
    there.
There is not much special-Windows for Data Guard - of course you need to create Windows Services for both Databases etc. as described here:

VNC certainly has it's beauty and advantages. I was under the impression though that the OP is trying to run OUI on a local server console that is runnig a graphical desktop. If that wasn't the case, VNC was certainly a preferable option.I have not done a local GUI console installation of Oracle in years. In fact, I'm known to start foaming at the mouth when discovering a server running X on the console, disabling it interactively, preventing initlevel 5 from ever loading X again, and leave comments of my disgust in inittab. ;-)
If I'm not mistaken then the vncserver does not need to have the X server running since the necessary support is built-in. The installation of X libraries is probably still required, but I'm not sure.It needs a X display manager. And xterm. twm does fine as display manager. Small and minimalistic. Not the greatest of ideas loading an entire Gnome desktop in VNC.
Btw, Apple Mac OS X provides seamless X11 support and uses VNC for screen sharing and even for installing a system remotely. If you use Apple Mac to access a remote Linux system, using ssh with X forwarding is very convenient as it works right out of the box without having to configure the remote Linux server.Nice. OS/X has come a long way the last few years. I recall a time when they pretended there was no "stinking" command line. :-)
