lower your font size unless you have difficulty
    MS Security Essentials is excellent
Then again maybe time to investigate Windows 8 RP (which uses Defender)

When I installed Lion all of my files were intact and where I left them, and I did not back up my Mac, however having seen some of the problems some people are coming across when installing Lion I would recommend backing up before you install (just to be on the safe side).
    Hope this helps!

  • Mac OS X Lion Installation via App Store

I have a 13" MBP with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and have downloaded Mac OS X Lion from the app store (I had purchased it about a year ago). However, I am not able to begin installation after the download finished. I can see OS X Lion under "Purchases" but there is no "Install" button available. All I see is a grayed out "Downloaded" button. Do I have to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion in order to proceed? I would appreciate any help on installing the already downloaded Mac OS X Lion.
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
As you have downloaded OS X Lion, you should find the OS X Lion installer on the Dock, so press it and follow the steps. If you don't see it, open Finder, select Applications on the sidebar and open Install Mac OS X Lion. If you can't see it, disconnect all peripherals, press Command and Space keys to access to Spotlight, type "Install Mac OS X Lion" and open the installer

  • Uninstallation of Mac OS X Lion and installation of OS X Snow Leopard

    Good evening,
my question is about uninstallation of Mac OS X Lion back to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I used to backup Time Capsule and i want to install the Time Capsule software, which I used while I had Snow Leopard. Now I can´t install the software because the OS X software version is to high. So I decided to install back the OS X Snow Leopard. When I opened the installation aplication it couldn´t be installed because the version of the installation aplication is to high. So I want to ask if there is any way to uninstall the OS X Lion and install back the Mac OS X Snow Leoprad?
    Thanks for the anwser

  • Damaged Installer for Mac OS X Lion

I have tried numerous times to install Adobe Flash Player (versions 10.3.183.5 & 11.0.1.152) on Mac OS X Lion.  Every time the installer proceeds to approximately 5% completion, then fails with the following message:
    The installation failed.  Get support.
From searching other threads I found the recommendation to run the uninstaller package, then download and re-run the latest installer package.  The uninstaller package runs fine, but the installer fails again.  Another thread recommends to control-click the Install Adobe Flash Player Application, then Show Package Contents, then open the Contents/Resources folder to find the Adobe Flash Player package.  When I try to run this package I receive the follwoing error message:
The Installer is damaged.  The Installer can't open the package.  There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions.
I have tried downloading the installer different times from both the Adobe website and download.cnet.com with no success.  This is a factory install of Lion and I have installed several other applications on this Mac with no problems.  I have installed JRE and ensured that that the Flash Player plugins are not currently installed in my Internet Plugins folder of my Library and the core Library.  I have installed Google Chrome and flash runs fine with it's flash player plugin.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I cleared my cache by using the Safari/Reset Safari menu item (which deletes a lot of stuff), cleaned out my downloads folder, then emptied the trash.  I used the direct link to the Mac installer listed in the linked article.  Same result for both methods of opening the installed package.  I checked the file information for the installer downloaded and it showed the most recent download time for the version 11 installer.
Also, just for grins, I downloaded the installer using Chrome.  No luck that route either.

  • How to create a Mac OS X Lion USB thumb drive installation bootable drive on a brand new Macbook???

    Hi,
As Apple have decided not to give with new laptops USB thumb drives for installation of OS X Lion (as they did with Snow Leopard), since people on the go might not have access to high speed internet when the system crashes, plenty of tutorials have surfaced about "How to Make a Bootable Mac OS X Lion USB Install Key"
    Such as
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=16149
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2389178,00.asp
These all assume you have upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard thus purchasing the Lion on the App Store.
Any ideas what people who have purchased brand new Mabooks do? As the system comes preloaded with the OS X Lion and it's not considered purchased on the App store.
I think Apple's new policy to charge customers $69 for this thumb drive is wrong and outrageous since the price of the laptop includes a license for the OS!
    Thanks,
    Guy.

  • I have OSX 10.6.8 - how do I make room on mac HD for Lion?

I have a Mac Pro 1.1 with OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leoprad. I want to move all my music, photos, and videos to other hard drives so i will have more room in Mac HD for Lion etc. I have not been to do this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If you have a MacBook Pro 1,1 then forget it, stay on 10.6.8.
Use Carbon Copy Cloner and clone your OS X 10.6 boot volume to another blank GUID OS X extended formatted drive. (use the Secure Erase > Zero feature on the drive first to eliminate any bad sectors) this is your 10.6 clone so you can boot and use PPC based apps your going to lose going to 10.7/10.8 or to come back to 10.6 if you won't like the Lions.
Hold option key down on a wired keyboard to boot from the clone drive and check it out.
Next zero erase your entire 10.6 original boot drive holding option from the 10.6 installer disk
Reinstall 10.6 from the disks (same account name), reinstall iLife from the second disks and call Apple if you want to upgrade to 10.7 specifically but your MacPro 1,1 can go to 10.8 directly from AppStore.
Now your machine is bare bones, install your 10.8 compatible third party programs/upgrades etc.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
On another drive setup duplicate Music2, Pictures2, Movies2 and Document2 folders and copy your files from the clone into them. Thus only on the boot drive is programs and OS X, no files.
You can command drag items like the original Documents, Music, Pictures folders off the Finder window sidebar and use the Music2, Pictures2, Movies2 etc there instead. However some programs will still try to save things automatically in the original user folders.
When you launch say iPhoto in 10.8 against the older 10.6 iPhoto Library, it will update it.
This sounds like a lot more work, but it's really giving you a solid footing, a stable fast system and free of crapola.
I always take a extra mile in being through to eliminate as many potential issues as possible, as it's cheaper and less hassle than cure, my machines always run well and fast, even Windows ones.

  • SQLDeveloper 3.1 on Mac OS X Lion

    Hi guys,
sorry for reposting, but this is really pressing -- doesn't anyone use SQLDeveloper on Mac OS X Lion?
I have a pretty recent Mac OS X System (10.7.3, today updated from 10.7.2 -- the problem existed there as well) with Java 1.6.0_29:
    localhost:~ bgd$ /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -version
    java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11-402-11D50b)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.4-b02-402, mixed mode)
I installed SQLDeveloper 3.1.0.7.42 on this system and I've encountered the following two problems:
    1. the connections aren't saved. Everytime I delete the ".sqldeveloper" directory in my homedir, SQLDeveloper starts without any problems. I can add a connection, test it, connect to the database and even saving it doesn't show any errors. A "connections.xml" file is generated but empty:
    localhost:~ bgd$ find .sqldeveloper/ -name connections.xml -ls
    1733256 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 bgd bgd 0 Feb 9 17:43 .sqldeveloper//system3.1.07.42/o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.4.37.59.48/connections.xml
If I start the SQLDeveloper w/o deleting the "~/.sqldeveloper" directory I always get the following errors:
oracle.jdeveloper.db.DatabaseConnections DatabaseConnections has no JNDI context so cannot list connections.
oracle.jdevimpl.db.adapter.DefaultContextWrapper Failed to create naming Context for db connections at url: file:/Users/bgd/.sqldeveloper/system3.1.07.42/o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.4.37.59.48/connections.xml
oracle.jdevimpl.db.adapter.DefaultContextWrapper Failed to create naming Context for db connections at url: file:/Users/bgd/.sqldeveloper/system3.1.07.42/o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.4.37.59.48/connections.xml
The connections.xml file remains empty, no matter how may connections I add and "save".
    2. After I make a connection to a database, I try the "SQL Worksheet" option (either by right-clicking the DB Connection or thru the menu "Tools->SQL Worksheet"). But nothing happens (except for the dialog "Select connection" when calling thru the "Tools" menu) -- no new window, no "SQL Workshop" space on the right canvas, nothing.
I've googled the first problem (the second one is pretty hard to "formulate") and, based on the results, I also tried the following:
    - Set the right Java Home in sqldeveloper.conf and sqldeveloper-Darwin.com:
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
    - tried to add the following lines to sqldeveloper.conf and sqldeveloper-Darwin.conf:
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/api/jaxb-api.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/api/jsr173_api.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../j2ee/home/lib/activation.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/shared/sun.jaxb/2.0/jaxb-xjc.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/shared/sun.jaxb/2.0/jaxb-impl.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/shared/sun.jaxb/2.0/jaxb1-impl.jar
    - I checked, but there is no ORACLE_HOME variable set on my system
    - Right now the java process looks like:
    bgd 1411 0.0 3.9 3831552 326400 ?? S 6:11PM 0:23.03 /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -Xmx640M -Xms128M -Xverify:none -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false -Dwindows.shell.font.languages= -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false -Dide.AssertTracingDisabled=true -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true -Djava.util.logging.config.file=logging.conf -Dsqldev.debug=false -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.apple.menu.about.name=SQL_Developer -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.growbox.intrudes=false -Dcom.apple.macos.smallTabs=true -Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=true -Xbootclasspath/p:../../rdbms/jlib/ojdi.jar -Dide.conf="/Users/bgd/Downloads/SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf" -Dide.startingcwd="/Users/bgd/Downloads/SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin" -classpath ../../ide/lib/ide-boot.jar oracle.ide.boot.Launcher
Any hints what could be wrong? I'm running out of ideas here...
    Regards,
    Bogdan

    Hello John, hello Brian,
    thanks for the fast answer!
So, I've "cleaned up" the conf files. Now they look like this:
    SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper-Darwin.conf:
    AddVMOption -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.apple.menu.about.name="SQL_Developer"
    AddVMOption -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.growbox.intrudes=false
    AddVMOption -Dcom.apple.macos.smallTabs=true
    AddVMOption -Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=true
    SetSkipJ2SDKCheck true
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
    AddVMOption -Xbootclasspath/p:../../rdbms/jlib/ojdi.jar
    SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf:
    IncludeConfFile ../../ide/bin/ide.conf
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
    AddVMOption -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true
    AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false
    AddVMOption -Dwindows.shell.font.languages=
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false
    IncludeConfFile sqldeveloper-nondebug.conf
The properties in "About SQL Developer":
    sun.boot.class.path     ../../rdbms/jlib/ojdi.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jsfd.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/classes.jar:/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Frameworks/JavaRuntimeSupport.framework/Resources/Java/JavaRuntimeSupport.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/ui.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/laf.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/sunrsasign.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jsse.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jce.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/charsets.jar
    java.ext.dirs     /Users/bgd/Library/Java/Extensions:/Library/Java/Extensions:/System/Library/Java/Extensions:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/ext
It is a new Mac OS X Lion installation, but I've restored my home directory from a previous Mac OS X installation -- it is possible that some "old" files from the old installation (where I've also used SQL Developer, but deleted it) are interfering with the new one.

    Bogdan
