Installation of PSE9 on a new Windows 7 computer

I have PSE9, which was installed on a Win XP computer, and I just installed it on a new Windows 7 machine and transferred the catalog and photos to the new computer.  I was able to successfully start the Organizer and selected File - Catalog and browsed to point to the MyCatalog folder containing my existing catalog.  When I clicked on Done, the Organizer immediately aborted and now when I try to restart the Organizer, it immediately closes, so I am not able to go back and try to make any changes to the catalog selection.
First, how do I restore the program, so I can make another attempt to correct the catalog problem?  I tried to reinstall, but it's first asking to de-install PSE and says that I should deactivate the serial number, but doesn't say how to do that.  Is that necessary if reinstalling on the same computer?  If so, how is that done?  I also didn't deactivate the serial number in the old computer.  Is that a problem?
Then, when PSE Organizer is running again, what is the procedure for connecting with an existing catalog?  Is any conversion of the catalog necessary since going from WinXP to WIn7?
I appreciate any help.
Steve

OK, there's some good info, thanks.  The important thing is the message that the catalog is corrupt.  We'll attack it this way:  first getting the Organizer to launch directly, then attempting to repair the catalog.
1.  Bypass the Unwelcome Screen by creating Desktop shortcuts for the Organizer and the Editor.
The Editor's executable is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
The Organizer's executable is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
The Unwelcome Screen leaves a zombie process running which prevents the actual program from launching again.
2.  Start the Organizer from that shortcut while holding down the Ctrl+Shift keys.  That will get you directly into the Catalog Manager.  Highlight your catalog in the lower panel and hit the "Repair" button.  After the repair completes,
hit the "Optimize" button.
See if Organizer now works.

You are allowed to have two activated installations.  If you happened to have one on this Windows 8 machine before, it is possible that the activation used for it was never deactivated (did you deactivate it before you upgraded Windows?).  Talk to Adobe support thru chat.  They might be able to resolve this with you:

  • Trying to install CS5.5 web premium on a new Windows 8 computer

I am trying to install CS5.5 web premium on a new Windows 8 computer. I had installed it before but Illustrator would not run. I tried reinstalling just Illustrator that did not work. So I uninstalled the whole suite, and planned to reinstall the whole thing. But I get "Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem." So I download ASA, and try to run the .exe and nothing happens.

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, then try again. Also check this:

How do I move element 9 from my old xp computer to my new windows 8 computer?

If you have an installation disc for Elements 9, then I would suggest that you uninstall Elements 9 from your old computer, de-activate during the uninstallation. On Windows 8 computer, insert the disc and install Elements 9, activate it during installation. However, it is not tested, according to this document from Adobe: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4527508. Let me know how it goes.

  • CS5 won't load on my New Windows 8 computer

My computer was fried by lightening and I bought a new Windows 8 computer.  I have CS5, but it won't load.  The disc doesn't automatically start in the drive, and when I look at the files on the disc, I cannot locate a setup, install, or .exe file.  Any suggestions?

I wouldn't count on CS5 working with Win 8 but in this case you may have
a bad disk (or you're using the content disk). You can download the
    installer from here:
    http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
Follow the directions EXACTLY or it won't work. You can use your serial
    number to activate it.

Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)?    I tried backup & restore without success.  I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there.  Only the text that I entered shows.  I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.

UPDATE:  By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored.  When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer.  Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location).  No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact.  I am appreciative that I just got lucky.  The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help.  If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product.  Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line:  All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer.  I hope my experience helps others.

Why can I not create a PDF from a web page on my Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro on my new Windows 8 computer? It worked fine on my windows XP system?

Acrobat 8 is not compatible with Windows 8,  for the simple reason it was
created much before it and Adobe could not participate the changes to the
OS that Microsoft implemented many years later on. You need to buy the
    current version for compatibility.

How do I transfer my ITunes to a new Windows 7 computer?  Do I download iTunes and then transfer files, or transfer files before dowloading program?

What are all those iTunes files? - http://www.macworld.com/article/139974/2009/04/itunes_files.html
Your playlists are part of the library.itl file which controls everything you see when you open iTunes.  That is why it is essential you move the whole iTtunes folder and everything it contains, especially the library.itl file.  iTunes library is a bunch of files and folders working together and if you omit some then it breaks.
Stating simply, "This did not work for me," offers the presumption you are content with that status.

    Hello, robertfromboulder city.
Thank you for the question.  You can direct iTunes to read your media off your external drive.  To do this, follow the instructions below.  See the section in the first article labeled Discovering and changing the iTunes Media folder location.

  • How do I put Photoshop Elements 5.0 on my new Windows 8 computer without using the disk?

I just bought a new PC with Windows 8. I have an old disk for Photoshop Elements 5.0 and would like to use that so that I don't have to spend more $,if possible. First of all, is it compatible? Second, how do I put it on my computer? I tried searching for downloads, and I have the serial number to enter, but I can't find how to do so. Thanks!

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.
