Installation of Solaris 10 pr x86 paltform

Hello !
Recently I get a version of Solaris 10 for x86 paltform.
I've tried to install Solaris on my comp but I get the next
error:
elf32 read error
Load error: Read of "paltform/i86pc/kernel/unix failed.
First I thought that the problem is in SATA 160 Maxtor disk,
becouse i had one problem with live distribution of Ubuntu Linux too.
So I remove this harddisk and i've replaced it with the ATA Maxtor disk.
I've got the same result.
Has anyone any idea what could be wrong?
Thank you!

I'm newbie in Unix arena so what is "elf32 and " fb" ?
I was hooked by linux three years ago, and now I'm trying to find out what the really UNIX lookse like. And the other reason is that ESRI (GIS software) software works better on UNIX platform then Linux.

  • Oracle 10g Installation nn solaris 10 X86

I have installed Oralce 10.1.0.3 in Solaris 10 X86 using the procedure given without creating the database.(Installing the binaries)
    Hardware:Sun fire V20z.
When i tried creating Database using DBCA,it was throwing lots of error.
    The errors are:
    1) ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    2) ORA-03114: not connected to oracle
    3) ORA-27100: shared memory realm already exists.
Oracle says nothing to do with Oracle 10g,Check the OS.
Any help on creating a database in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10.1.0.3
    Thanks in Advance.

    check your /etc/system and init.ora
did you set up kernel parameters for oracle in /etc/system?
    something like this:
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=0xffffffff
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=4096
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=4096
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=4096
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=1000
    set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
    the interesting parameter is
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100 - that is maximum amount of oracle processes system can have, if you have something like processes=150 in init.ora, database won't start.
read oracle installation manual on how to set these parameters for a particular machine and database

    is it any OVM template?
what this .bin is containing actually ?
    kind regards

The first thing most of us do is download and read the installation documents.
That is what I recommend you do too.
Please also do not assume anyone here has any idea what the file you are referencing does ... I am not aware of anything from Oracle with the name you provided.

  • Installation of Solaris 8 (x86 Platform Edition

    Hi guys,
I have downloaded the Solaris 8 for intel version and burnt them into CDs. (3 CDs). I tried to download the Solaris (x86 Platform Edition) Device Configuration Assistant Boot Diskette, but instead of downloading, it opens in another Internet explorer window. I tried pressing shift while downloading, that doesn't work. And also I tried to boot using the Solaris installation CD for installing, it says cannot boot from CDROM. Please help me. How can I proceed with installation?
    With regards,
    Amin

Well I had undergone the same problem, what I did was then use Netscape Enterprise Browser, and there is worked just fine, and was able to save the file onto my pc, without it being opening in an another window, so if possible use Netscape Browser and try and see what happens. Hope this helps you.

  • BI Publisher Installation in Solaris 10 x86 failing.

    Hello all,
I am trying to install BI Publisher on Solaris 10. During the pre-requisites check, it fails for Checking OS recommended patches, 127111-02 and 137111-04. If I ignore and continue, then the Distributing Repository is failing throwing the error
Error executing nqudmlexec - return code: 1stdout:
    stderr:
How can I solve the issue.
    Please help its urgent.
    Thank you
    Cheers
    Ash

    Hello All,
Finally the installation got finished. The two things that held me for long are these
    1) Operating System required Patches showing the wrong patch number. While you run the installer for the OBIEE 11g, during the pre-requisites check it failed for the fore said item. I had to run a lot for the answer.
The answer was pretty simple, the patch number shown by the installer was wrong (127111-02, 137111-04) These two patches are for the Solaris SPARC OS. Weirdly I was running the installation on a Intel Solaris VM. The respective patches for Intel Solaris 10 are 127112-02 and 137112-04, so moral of the story is ensure that these patches are in and ignore the failure message click NEXT
    2) Now getting back to the error message posted here "Error executing nqudmlexec - return code: 1stdout:" This is because the LOCALE was not set to UTF-8
    Steps to set the locale
    i) ensure that UTF-8 is installed in you machine "localeadm -a en_US.UTF-8 -d /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Product"
ii) can do a listing using locale -a to make sure that UTF-8 is in.
iii) make sure that the following packages are in "pkgadd SUNWi1cs SUNWi15cs SUNWnamos"
iv) set the LANG variable "export LANG=UTF-8"
And I had a smooth run. :) The pain was over...

  • Solaris 10 x86 5.10 cannot install Oracle 10g (needs 5.9 or less!)

I installed the latest Solaris 10 x86 rev 5.10 and then downloaded the "New" Oracle 10g for Solaris x86 oddly but not suprisingly the "New" Oracle 10g only installs on Solaris 10 x86 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9 GO FIGURE.
Seem there should be a way to fake out the software to see a different version.
Anybody know how to do this?
    thanks
    Phil

And another workaround that seems to work can be found here:
    http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/fintanr/20040803
    To quote from that page:

Quick work around for installing Oracle 10g on Solaris 10 (in our case on a v20z).
After creating your staging area you run the Oracle installer and get an error similar to the following

To work around this you need to edit the oraparam.ini file, in our case this is /export/ora/Disk1/install/oraparam.ini.
    Edit the section

And thats it, just run through your install as normal.

Has anyone done any installs with Solaris 10 x86 on UCS B-series yet? If so, anything worth paying attention to? I have a request from a customer to put Solaris 10 on UCS and up until now I was not aware that Solaris will be supported on UCS until sometime in the Fall. Thank you in advance!

This thread might be a little old, but I have a driver problem when installing Solaris 10 x86 from SAN. Here in the Montreal office, we're using B200 M1 blades with the Qlogic M71KR-E network adaptor - http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/components/details/3241.html. This product show up in the interoperability matrix, but Solaris cannot find the SAN during installation.
How did you guys get around this problem?

    Kalpesh Mehta

I had similar problems several months ago. I suspect this happens when host pc does not have floppy drive(or bios somehow misreports it) as it was in my case. Solaris 8 seems to work fine in the same environment, so I keep using it for now. Possible workaround might be to use DCA from Solaris 8: Installation of Sol9 started just fine after I entered Sol8 DCA and asked it to boot from Sol9 CD.
Hope this problem will be fixed in subsequent Sol9 releases.

Here are some additional statements for 10g on Solaris 10g x86:
    1. Execute runInstaller with the -ignoreSysPrereqs option.
    2. Select 'Do not create a starter database' when installing Oracle 10g.
    3. During installation, the warning message 'SUNWsprox package not installed' can be ignored. Press Continue to resume the installation.
    4. Download and install patch 4186426 from metalink.oracle.com after installing Oracle 10g software.
    5. If you have an End User Solaris 10 distribution, install the SUNWuiu8 package prior to installing the 10g client.

  • Solaris 10 x86 Installation Fails to Start

I am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 05/08 on a Sony PCG-K115S laptop. The issue I am having is that the installation hangs after printing the copyright information and does not go any further. I get no error message or status as to what the installation is doing.
I downloaded the dvd iso from sun website and verified the md5 checksum before burning the dvd more than once but the issue occurred in both dvds.
The laptop currently has XP installed but there is 30GB of free unallocated/partitioned space on the disk.
Are there any options I can active to debug the installation and see where and why it is stalling.
    Thank you,
    F.
    Edit 1:
After some forum reading I activated the Kernel Debugger and verbose mode:
The installation hangs after this line is printed out:
    echi0 is /pci@0,0/pci104d,8175@c,2
loaded modules: [uppc neti ufs unix krtld uhci hook genunix ip usba specfs pcplusmp cpu.generic sctp arp]
Does this strike a cord with anybody??
    Edit 2:
After some more reading and investigation, I read that this could be caused by my USB controller not being recognoized or some USB 2.0 issues with Solaris 10.
I have tried to deactive the usb system with the options "-B acpi_user_options=2" and "-B acpi_user_options=8" but with no luck. (I got about these on some some forum, not sure if they are correct).
    Any help is appreciated!!
    Thank you,
    F.

OK, got a little further. I entered the incorrect value for the acpi-user-options, the number should have been in hex.
    So with options "-k -v -B acpi-user-options=0x8 -B install_media=cdrom" I get the install menu
    1. Interactive
On selecting "1" for interactive, the install begins be halts quickly with an error:
    NOTICE: rtls0 -- link down
ERROR: Unable to configure network interface
Exiting to shell. Is there any way to disable the configuration of the network interfaces?? I don't need them for installation...
    Thank you for any help,
    F.

  • Solaris 10 X86 Installation Struck after Loading Grub Stage 2

    Hi All,
I am trying to install Solaris 10 X86 Platform on my intel system. I downloaded the iso DVD images from Sun site.
    sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd-iso-a.iso
    sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd-iso-b.iso
When I boot with the Solaris DVD 1, I am getting the message "Loading Stage 2" and returned to grub> command line
This is the message I am getting in my screen
    Loading Stage 2 ... ...
GNU GRUB version 0.97 (639K lower/283584 upper memory)
*[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions os a device/filename. ]*
    grub> root
*(hd1111): Filesystem type is iso9660, using whole disk*
    grub>
Can some one help me on this, I tried in Google and other sun solve support forums but didnt find anything helpfull.
    Anybodys help is much appreciated..
    Regards, Sundar

I'm getting the same thing with Solaris 10u8 in a VirtualBox. sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd.iso downloaded from cds.sun.com today.
(I tried the pre-made VirtualBox image Sun provides, and it's horribly dysfunctional. So I thought I'd try a fresh installation. More fool me, apparently.)
Edit: No, it's me. The problem is that the ISO I downloaded was incomplete - it cut off at precisely 2GB! The md5sum of what I downloaded is ea5a8606894d253e286861aaf4b5c50a; the official md5sum should be 9df7fd02d82976fd3ec38a18d1a57335. I guess tomorrow I try again with part A and part B ...
So it looks like the answer is: check with md5sum that you actually have the full ISO.
