-LakeshOracle 10G release 1 only support up to Solaris 9.
You probably need to install 10G release 2. The second release of major Oracle version is always more stable anyway.

Installation of Solaris 10 freezes at 100%
Hi, I am trying to install Solaris 10 on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 Server. However the installation will always freeze at 100% (I have repeated it a few times on RAID0 as well RAID1 configuration). It does not reboot and I am unable to do anything except to physically power down the system. When I power on the system again, it does not boot up because no OS is detected.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this? I had no problem doing the installation on my other servers. This server was running fine on Solaris 10 until one of the two harddisks crashed and had to be replaced. The problem occurs after I had changed the harddisk. Is there any particular disk configuration that I need to do before installing Solaris 10?The Solaris IDE/ATAPI kernel module has problems accessing
your ATAPI CD/DVD device.
Solaris 10 x86 currently has DMA disabled for ATAPI CD/DVD
devices. Maybe it works better if you enable DMA on the CD/DVD?
Try to change the "atapi-cd-dma-enabled" property to "1", on the
last DCA "select boot device" screen, in the edit properties submenu.
You probably have to press the "ESC" key to interrupt the cdrom
autoboot, to enter the DCA. -
Installation of Solaris 8 (x86 Platform Edition
Hi guys,
I have downloaded the Solaris 8 for intel version and burnt them into CDs. (3 CDs). I tried to download the Solaris (x86 Platform Edition) Device Configuration Assistant Boot Diskette, but instead of downloading, it opens in another Internet explorer window. I tried pressing shift while downloading, that doesn't work. And also I tried to boot using the Solaris installation CD for installing, it says cannot boot from CDROM. Please help me. How can I proceed with installation?
With regards,
AminWell I had undergone the same problem, what I did was then use Netscape Enterprise Browser, and there is worked just fine, and was able to save the file onto my pc, without it being opening in an another window, so if possible use Netscape Browser and try and see what happens. Hope this helps you.

Install error for Oracle 10g on Solaris x86 64-bit. NETCA won't run
Hi All,
I'm installing Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Solaris x86 64-bit. I run the Oracle installer and all runs well until the NETCA portion of the install. It then errors (error file below). When i attempt to run NETCA outside of the installer i'm getting the same error output. I have verified my OS version and that all dependent packages are installed. I'm not sure what is causing this. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
thanks, dave

Installation error Solaris 10-u6-ga1
I must be missing something really obvious on the installation of Solaris 10 U6. I've come up against the error message upon manually partitioning, and using UFS. After the install the error is:
Solaris 10 10 software installation partially failed
Solaris 10 packages partially installed
SUNWlur
Then at reboot it loops and loops
If I install using ZFS no problem. Unfortunately I have to use UFS for this install.
I pulled down the sol-10-u6-x86-ga1 dvd and installed on an Vmware to see what I'd get. If I manually setup the drive, it fails to with the same error.
Here is my drive layout both sparc server and vmware(x86)
/ = 10 Gb
swap = 10 Gb
/etc = 10 Gb
/usr = 10 Gb
/var = 10 Gb
/export=remaining drive space.
I'm I missing something obvious?
thanks
billThere should be more information in the install log about why the one package failed. If you search for the package name in the log you should be able find it. Then that might help determine whether the package can be installed on its own, possibly fixing your reboot issue.

How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?
Hello people,
I want to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center platform.
If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
/opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.
Can anybody give me ideas to install and integrate my solaris x86 server on SunMC ?

my problem is that i could not install the SMC agent on Red Hat Linux. as i could not find an easy document or steps to do so.
could you guide please?If you still have a copy of your SunMC media around, the same ["es-inst"|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-2215/command-line-1?l=en&a=view] program you use to install Solaris Agents should work on Linux as well. It autodetects OS type and will install Solaris packages or RPMs as appropriate.

From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.
Hope this helps

For some reason my computer fails to boot from scsi cdrom, is there a

Pioneer DR-U24X CDROM-drive.Tekram offer a driver for download - this presupposes you have a system already installed and running Solaris so that you can actually install the Tekram driver.
What Tekram have failed to implement and deliver is the "ITU" version of the driver - Install Time Update is Sun's mechanism \for allowing installation of drivers for devices which need to be bootable duringthe installation of the system - you'll see something like "F4 - use ITU floppy" along the bottom of the install screen.
Options are: complain to Tekram and ask if they've heard of ITU

Solaris x86 with Oracle RAC 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0
Hello,
Maybe you can help me (new on RMAN backup) in doing this.
I have configured a single Oracle 10g database to have backup with RMAN with following steps:
1. $ mkdir $ORACLE_BASE/rman_scripts
2. $ mkdir $ORACLE_BASE/logs
3. $ mkdir $ORACLE_BASE/tracking
4. $ mkdir $ORACLE_BASE/c_backup
5. $ sqlplus sys/<password> as sysdba
6. SQL> alter system set db_recovery_file_dest_size = 50G scope=both;
7. SQL> alter system set db_recovery_file_dest='${ ORACLE_BASE}/flash_recovery_ area' scope=both;
8. SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_10='location= use_db_recovery_file_dest';
9. SQL> shutdown immediate
10. SQL> startup nomount
11. SQL> alter database archivelog;
12. SQL> alter database open;
13. SQL> alter database enable block change tracking using file '${ORACLE_BASE}/tracking/rman_ change_track.f';
14. $ rman target /
15. RMAN> CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK
TO '/var/opt/oracle/flash_ recovery_area/ORCL/c_backup/% F';
16. RMAN> CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
17. RMAN> CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
18. RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 7 DAYS;
19. RMAN> exit
I need to configure incremental backup with RMAN on a two node Solaris x86 with Oracle RAC 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 installation.
We also use ASM to store database files, and have Oracle software installed on separate file systems (two Oracle roots for Node1 and Node2).
I have following questions:
1) where to put Flash Recovery Area (FRA)?
I saw recommendations to put FRA on the ASM, is this the best way to do it?
2) Can I put FRA on another file system (not on the ASM) which is available only from Node1? This way I can save space on the ASM.
3) Is it possible/recommended to run RMAN from Node1 only?
Below is the script used to run RMAN on the normal Oracle database (without RAC) which I need to change :
=============================================================================================
2.0 Oracle backup script: /opt/app/oracle/rman_scripts/backup.sh
Use this for daily backups, possiblly as a cron job.
Once a week run this: /opt/app/oracle/rman_scripts/backup.sh FULL
All other days of the week: /opt/app/oracle/rman_scripts/backup.sh INCREMENTAL
Note: You may have to change ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_BASE below to match your database.
=============================================================================================
#!/usr/bin/ksh
ORACLE_SID=orcl
ORACLE_BASE=/opt/app/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=${ORACLE_BASE}/product/10.2.0/db_1
PATH=${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:/usr/bin

then
echo "usage: backup.sh FULL|INCREMENTAL"
exit;
fi
BACKUPTYPE=${1}
full='FULL'
incremental='INCREMENTAL'
if [[ $BACKUPTYPE == $full ]]
then
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / nocatalog log ${LOGFILE} append << eof
run {
backup database;
SQL 'alter system archive log current';
backup archivelog all;
delete noprompt obsolete;
exit;
eof
echo ''

if [[ $BACKUPTYPE == $incremental ]]
then
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / nocatalog log ${LOGFILE} append << eof
run {
backup database;
backup incremental level 1 database;
SQL 'alter system archive log current';
backup archivelog all;
delete noprompt obsolete;
exit;
eof
echo ''
fiHi [email protected],
Q1) where to put Flash Recovery Area (FRA)?
A1) With RAC: on the shared storage
I saw recommendations to put FRA on the ASM, is this the best way to do it?
If you want your backups to be available for both nodes you have to use shared storage or tape using an mml library.
So if you want to use the FRA for rman backups and the database is on ASM just make ASM the standard for the FRA as well.
Q2) Can I put FRA on another file system (not on the ASM) which is available only from Node1? This way I can save space on the ASM.
A2) Than you cannot recover in case Node1 is down. Best would be to send your storage admin to a training course so he can manage the clustered raw devices needed for ASM.
Q3) Is it possible/recommended to run RMAN from Node1 only?
A3) No see A2.

Solaris x86 on HP pavilion laptop
I am trying to install solaris x86 version on my pavilion zt1000. The solaris install cd boots and then crashes with the following "boot panic: trap type 0 error 0 at 13bd7f" and bunch of register information.
I have tried 3 different CDs and even tried creating a bootable floppy disk. The floppy disk booting just hangs at the solaris boot manager screen.
Any ideas ???
To start with can solaris be installed on a HP pavilion
Thanks for any info anybody can provide.
SriramI do remember that everyone who installed on a laptop had to use an external keyboard during the installation. While I dont have any info specific to the HP, search the forum for past laptop posts - someone has probably had a similar issue and take a look at these pages.

as the guide expected.
please what can i do, cos the guide says if i dont see the later, the installation cannot complete.
