Are you trying to install Solaris 9 onto a server that is already running Windows XP and to keep Windows XP too?
You'll need to create a partition on which to install Solaris, - search for Solaris Windows Dual Boot on docs.sun.com for more information.

  • Installation Error J2sdk1.4.1 version on Window NT- Please Help

I downloaded J2SDK1.4.1 version sucessfully on window NT, When I click on Install, I get the following error
"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable your are attempting to run is corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity and try again". Earlier I older version of Jdk1.2, I tried to remove all the files and tried again, but keep getting the same error.
Could anyone tell me what I need to do?

    Hello gchandrashekar1,
It sounds like you have indeed downloaded a corrupted copy of the SDK1.4.1.
    1. Check the download file size
If you saved the self-installing executable to disk without running it from the download page at the Java Software web site, check to see that you have the complete file:
    j2sdk-1_4_0-win.exe 37067134 bytes
    2. Uninstall Pre-Release Versions of the Java 2 SDK 1.4
If you have previously installed a Beta release or the Release Candidate version of Java 2 SDK 1.4, uninstall it. Use the Microsoft Windows Add/Remove Programs utility, accessible from the Control Panel (Start --> Settings --> Control Panel).
    3. Run the Java 2 SDK installer
Note -- you must have administrative permissions in order to install the Java 2 SDK on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
The file j2sdk-1_4_0-win.exe is the Java 2 SDK installer. If you downloaded it instead of running it directly from the web site, double-click
on the installer's icon. Then follow the instructions the installer provides. When done with the installation, you can delete the download file to recover disk space.
Also, for trouble shooting tips, see: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/install-windows.html#troubleshooting

  • Install solaris 8 (intel version)

    Dear,
I try to instll solaris 8 but i get following message, Please help
Unable to mount a Solaris root file system from the device:
DISK: (*) Target 0, CntxCorp HD
on Bus Mastering IDE controller on Board PCI at Dev 7, Func 1
    Error message from mount:
    /pci@0,0/pci-ide@7,1/ide@0/cmdk@0,0:a: can't open - no hsfs VTOC
    Press Enter to Continue.
    Thanks
    John

You've selected the wrong boot device.
You have to select your CDROM device to boot solaris from. This will run the installer from CDROM
which prepares your HDD. Once solaris is installed on your HDD, you can select the HDD as the
    device to boot solaris from.

  • Reboot in Installation in Solaris 8 (intel)

I am attempting to install Solaris8 on a new machine. Everything goes exactly as described in the
installation guide up until the "Boot Solaris" screen. After the messages:
    "Configuring /dev and /devices
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information."
the screen blanks and the machine reboots. I was expecting to be prompted to create some disk
partitions. Is there something I need to do to the disk drives first?
    Thanks,
    Abdul Wahid Khalil

Let me guess, there's a 3com 3c905c (or equivalent) in your
machine, using the new asic that is not supported by the solaris
    elxl driver?

  • Installing network card in solaris 7 intel version

    hai,
i installed solaris 7 in a intel platform. but the network card is not getting recoganised. the card is Compex Readlink RL2000 pci card. how i will configure it. please help me.
    shibin

If the card is not recognized, then it's probably unsupported by solaris.
Either you can get a solaris 7 driver from the card's vendor, or you
get a new nic that is support under solaris 7.

  • Solaris 8 (Intel) Installation problems

I have not been successful to install Solaris 8 (Intel version).I am
installing from the (Install CD) and I get to the Solaris Boot screen that
    says:
Select one of the identified devices to boot the Solaris Kernel and
choose F2 to continue. Solaris identifies 2 IDE Disk Drives (on Primary Controller),
a third IDE HDD (Secondary master) and the CD ROM as a slave on the Secondary
Controller. When I choose the CD ROM as the Boot disk, the system hangs
    forever!. Any suggestions?
P.S: The installation CD contains the following:
    image = 550MB
    (.VOLUME) : 47 bytes
    ADD_INSTALL_CLIENT: 54.5KB
    BOOT: 0 bytes
    COPYRIGHT: 5.3KB
    MODIFY_INSTALL_SERVER = 3.37KB
The total of these files is : 93KB
Dose this seem correct, having in mind that the image file is 550MB
    Thanks,
    Kamel Elchazli

At the "(b)oot or (i)nterpreter" prompt, type:
    b kadb -v
This loads the Solaris kernel under kernel debugger (kadb) control.
Apparently your system crashes with a kernel panic, and when kadb
is loaded, kadb will catch the kernel panic error and drop you into the
debugger so that you can read the panic messages.
The "-v" option enables verbose kernel messages, which might be
    useful to diagnose the problem.

    Hi!
I also had the same exact problem during the install. The only way that I could procede was to tell it that I didn't want to install networking. Now when I boot, it tries to load the elx0 driver (for my 3Com 3c509b) and brings the following message, "SIOCSLIFFFLAGS cannot assigm requested address." I have checked the Irq/IO setting in the hardware configuration agent and everything seems to be correct. To top it all off, once I logon if I enter "ifconfig elx0 192.168.1.2 up" then everything works fine. I tried to forceload the elx0 module in /etc/system to see if the module just wasn't loaded early enough but this did not help. Any ideas of what else I should check?
    TIA
