Installation of SQL Server 2012 express on Windows 7
Hi,
When I try to install SQL Server 2012 express, I get the following error message:
This SQL Server Setup media does not Support the language of the OS, or does not have the SQL Server English-language Version Installation Files. Use the matching language-specific SQL-Server Format and System locales through the regional Settings in the
Control Panel.
I tried changing the language via the Control Panel but it didn't help.
What should I do?
Hello,
Please, you need to match the following operating system settings to the language of SQL Server (US English):
(1) operating system user interface setting, (2) the operating system user locale setting and (3) the system locale setting.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210665(v=sql.110)
Hope this helps.

SQL Server 2012 Express on Window 8.1 64 bit version?
Hi,
I´m trying to install SQL Server 2012 Express on Windows 8.1 64 bit version. When I reach the point of "Installing Setup Files", of the installation process, the installation seems to halt. I´ve tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of SQL 2012
Express. I´ve installed SQL 2012 Express several times before on other Windows versions but I´ve never encountered this problem. Is it a known SQL Server 2012 Express/Windows 8.1 64 bit compability problem?
Thanks in advance!

SSMS for SQL Server 2012 Express on Windows Embedded 8 Standard
Hello,
I have installed SQL Server 2012 Express with Advanced Tools (SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe, downloaded from MS website) on Windows Embedded 8 Standard 64-bit. But, when I try to find SQL Server Management Studio, I realized it's not installed (same installation
package works fine on my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit laptop, where SSMS gets installed). How do I fix this? And any other ways for trouble-shooting DBs on Windows Embedded 8 Standard?
Thanks,
JayBelow is the content of a summary file for the installation. BTW, I also try to find its ConfigurationFile.ini file for future installation on other computers, but it's not in the folder specified in the summary file either (see below).
Thanks.

SQL Server 2012 Express Install on Windows 7 SP1 Embedded not using virtual account?
Hi there,
I did a default installation of SQL Server 2012 Express on Windows 7 embedded Standard SP1.
When I look at the SQLSERVER service credential it is configured to run under "NETWORK SERVICE" instead of the virtual account "NT SERVICE\MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS".
This is different from SQL 2012 Express installation on a non-embedded Windows 7.
Why is this difference?
Secondly, because of this, I am unable to take a backup of databases to any folder other than the default SQL folder.Hi Chandrasekaran,
As Local Service account, the Network Service account and high privileged Local System account could be used by many services.
It becomes harder to track which service is actually accessing resources and performing actions, because all the services are using the one Network Service account or other account.
In Windows7 and Windows Server 2008R2, it introduces a new type of account called a virtual account, which emulates creating many unique instances of the Network Service account, so each service runs with its own instance of the Network Service account.
For example, when you install SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 and later you’ll see the services run with virtual service accounts named like:
in the format NT SERVICE\<SERVICENAME>.
According to your description, when the SQLSERVER service was run under “NETWORK SERVICE”, you only back up database to the default SQL folder. It may be caused by the NETWORK SERVICE account has limited local privileges, just accesses network
resource with the computer credential. I recommend you change the account to Local System account, by default, which has full permissions on your computer.
For more information about SQL Server service account and virtual account, you can review the following articles.

Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1
64-bit
I just installed SQL Server 2012 express - Express with Advanced Services (contains the database engine, Express Tools, Reporting Services, and Full Text Search),
file name - SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.
Opening SQL Server Management Studio causes the error -
"Could not load the file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.OLE.Interop,
Version=7.1.40304.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The
system cannot find the file specified."
Do I need to install another file? Did I download the wrong version?
Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.Hello,
The issue may occure when the installation of your SQL Server is not a complete or a successful one. Did you try to repair or reinstall the SQL Server Express? You can also try to install
Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2012
to check if the issue presists.

SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB parm for keeping unicode char
in developer's windows 8.1 pc, the SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB does not seem to keep Unicode like \U2221. it get translated to the plain - instead of keeping as
−.
what parameter od I need to setup to make sure it keep such character as isHi fs - ab,
You know that this forum is to discuss the VS IDE, to make this issue clearly, could you share us a screen shot for this issue? Where did you change your localDB with Unicode?
I did some research about it.
LocalDB supports two kinds of instances: Automatic instances and named instances.
•Automatic instances of LocalDB are public. They are created and managed automatically for the user and can be used by any application. One automatic instance of LocalDB exists for every version of LocalDB installed
on the user’s computer. Automatic instances of LocalDB provide seamless instance management. There is no need to create the instance; it just works. This allows for easy application installation and migration to a different computer. If the target machine
has the specified version of LocalDB installed, the automatic instance of LocalDB for that version is available on the target machine as well. Automatic instances of LocalDB have a special pattern for the instance name that belongs to a reserved namespace.
This prevents name conflicts with named instances of LocalDB. The name for the automatic instance is a single v character followed by the LocalDB release version number in the format xx.x. For example, v11.0 represents SQL Server 2012.
•Named instances of LocalDB are private. They are owned by a single application that is responsible for creating and managing the instance. Named instances provide isolation from other instances and can improve performance
by reducing resource contention with other database users. Named instances must be created explicitly by the user through the LocalDB management API or implicitly via the app.config file for a managed application (although managed application may also use
the API, if desired). Each named instance of LocalDB has an associated LocalDB version that points to the respective set of LocalDB binaries. The instance name of a LocalDB is sysname data type and can have up to 128 characters. (This differs from regular
named instances of SQL Server, which limits names to regular NetBIOS names of 16 ASCII chars.) The name of an instance of LocalDB can contain any Unicode characters that are legal within a filename.
A named instance that uses an automatic instance name becomes an automatic instance.

It seems that it is related to the SQL Server, am I right? If so, maybe the SQL Server forum would be better for this issue.
If I have misunderstood this issue, please feel free to let me know.

VB 2012 Express and SQL server 2012 Express
My Windows 7 computer just crashed and I am trying to resurrect my VB 2012 Express code. I have been using Access 2007 but lost my license info and installation media, so I am considering a change to SQL server 2012. I have downloaded it, but
I haven't a cue as to how to use it. I need to convert my old Access 2007 data and then connect the result to my VB 2012 code.
Please help.
RONATMOODYLAKEI know how to use a database engine, but what I downloaded as SQL server 2012 Express seems to be something else. I am in <st1:place w:st="on">Africa</st1:place> and things don't work well here. I
have an app that says SQL error and usage reporting, and when I answer the questions nothing happens. This must not be the SQL 2012 Server Express (or is it?). Maybe you can point me to a useful download link. What I have is totally obscure.

Can't find ConfigurationFile.ini for SQL Server 2012 Express
Hello,
I installed SQL Server 2012 Express on my Windows 8.1 Pro laptop with an instance name of SqlExpress. However, when I try to find the ConfigurationFile.ini, I can't find it. I searched all the sub-folders under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup

Thanks,
JayFor SQL Server Express edition you need to try with below parameters at the time of installation:
UIMODE=Normal
ACTION=Install

I have been having a very frustrating time trying to connect to a localDB instance of SQL Server 2012. So I started again from scratch on another computer (Windows 7). I first installed sql server 2012 Express with tools (via ENU\x64\SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe)
and then installed the LocalDB Edition via sqlLocalDB.msi. The first installation seems to have gone OK. The second installation proceeded normally and finally advised that "Setup has installed SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB successfully."
A whole lot of files were installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, including sqlservr.exe. But the SqlLocalDB.exe utility was
not amongst them.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening here? From where can I download a copy of sqlLocalDB.exeA whole lot of files were installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, including sqlservr.exe. But the SqlLocalDB.exe utility was

Any and every ideas on how to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.Three weeks passed and I am yet to find a fix for the the failed installation of the database engine on sql server 2012 express installation. I have tried various work-around including uninstalling, deleting all the directory paths, and reinstallation. Still
not able to successfully install sql server 2012 express.
I will greatly appreciate any and every contribution towards resolving this issue. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to create a silent installation package for SQL Server 2012 Express Management Studio SP1. (both x86 & x64)
Prior to installation I have performed the following :
1. Turned ON the Windows feature 'Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1' (I had read somewhere on the internet that this is required prior to installation)
2. Installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
I am using the following command line to perform an unattended install :
<EXENAME> /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
However, the installation fails abruptly.
The application installs successfully with the following command line :
<EXENAME> /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
The error occurs only while attempting to install the application with the /Q switch appended.
Please help.Hello Fanny,
Thanks for providing the link to the SQL Server 2012 unattended install guide.
However, I must highlight that I was running the setup.exe with "Run As a Administrator" option and still facing the issue.
Anyways, I found out the root cause and I must say that it was a rather silly one.
As I had stated previously, the following command line was causing the issue :
<EXENAME>
/Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
I simply changed it to the following and it worked....
<EXENAME>
/QUIET /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=INSTALL /FEATURES=TOOLS
It so seems that everything must be in CAPITALS for this to work.
Regards,
Soumen
