Installation of ZFD inventory services

We have been using ZFD 3.0 SP1a for quite some time but we
haven't installed Inventory Services so far, which we'd like to do now.
How can we install Inventory Services in addition? (It's not a
re-installation but we want to do it for the first time.)
Is it enough to rerun ZFD 3.0 SP1a and select all the components
including Sybase or do I have to go back to the basic installation of
ZFD 3.0 and then install the support pack afterwards again?
Is there any danger of corrupting our present configuration?
We are running Netware 5.1 SP6.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Gerhard

Gerhard,
besides that Zen 3.0 and NW 5.0 is no longer supported there is no
danger :)
Just rerun the setup and choose all components for inventory including
the sybase option. Afterwards re-apply SP1a.

  • Inventory Services does not start up

    ZFD3.2 installed on "ZFD" resource in a 2-node NW6SP2 Cluster (SOU-SRV3 and
    SOU-SRV4)
I have just installed ZFD3.2 with NCS. When I try to start the Inventory
Service I get the following error message briefly displayed on the Server
    Console Screen:
Could not initialize status logger: Error in initialzing the nds
I have noted that I have two Zen Inventory Service Objects:
    SOU-SRV3_ZenInvService & SOU-SRV4_ZenInvService.
I would have thought that during the install I would have an inventory
service object that represented the virtual server object. ie:
SOU-CLUSTER1_ZFD_SERVER_ZenInvService). It is this virtual server object
that I have configured as the Inventory Service DN in the Config.Properties
    file.
Have I made an error during the install or do I just need to modify the
    Config.Properties file?
Any help would be appreciated as I really want to get this working as a
    Cluster Resource.
    Thanks in advance

  • Inventory service will not start

We recently had a drive crash in our array and had some data errors. We've
got the new drive in and everything seems to be running except for the
Inventory service. I can load the mgmtdbs and it loads, but when I run the
    Startinv, I get
    java: Class
    com.novell.zenworks.desktop.inventory.servercommon .ZenworksInventory
    ServiceManager exited with status 1.
I was about to upgrade to IR7 before the drive crashed, so I went ahead an
applied it, figured maybe it would overwrite a corrupt file maybe, but
still getting the same error. I found a tid explaing how to turn on
detailed logging, but it seems it doesn't get far enough to start logging.
I've seen a bunch of posts with this problem, but most are Zenworks 3
    related and mention
java: Class com.novell.orb.service.naming.NamingServer exited with status 1
Does this relate to Zenworks 4.01? It's not loaded though. When I do a
    java -show, I get
    org.apache.tomcat.startup.Main ID 218
    com.novell.zenworks.desktop.remotewakeup.zenworksw olservicem ID 460
    com.novell.application.zenworks.autowsmanagement.w simport.im ID 466
    com.novell.application.zenworks.autowsmanagement.w sremoval.r ID 470
    We're running Netware 6.0 sp 5, java 1.3.1_10, ZFD 4.01 IR7.
    Any help is appreciated, Thanks

Ok, I was finally able to get a screenshot of the screen that pops up when

  • Error loading Inventory Service

Just completed several installs of Zen for Desktops 6.5 SP2. No problems
except for one server that will not load the Inventory service. Tried
renaming the Zenworks folders and reinstalling, deleting the objects and
reinstalling, etc... Found the following TID:
    http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...i?10098429.htm which
describes a situation where the security folder is not created in <ZENworks
install volume>ZENworks/zws. The fix is supposed to be just creating a
security folder and copying a zws.properties file from a working server.
This does not work. I looked at one of my functioning servers and there are
2 files: .keystore and keypair.dat located in the working servers security
    folder.
How do I generate a new .keystore and new keypair.dat files? Is there
something similar to tckeygen.ncf I can use to recreate these files?
    Many thanks

  • Inventory Service won't load

    We're running Zenworks 6.5 on a Netware 6.5 SP2 server.
We recently applied the Zenworks 6.5 support pack 2 and since then we've
been unable to start the Inventory service.
When we type StartSer * at the console the error that comes back from the
    logger screen is: java: Class
    com.novell.zenworks.desktop.inventory.servercommon .ZENWorksInventory Start
    Service exited with status -1.
I've checked the database and it appears to load correctly. The database
runs on the same server as the Inventory service.
I've checked the Status in the inventory service object and the last status
    is a 602 error.
I've also checked that the port the service is trying to use isn't in use
and the inventory service objects in C1 and can't see any issues.
    Anybody have any ideas?

I would chek to make sure that your JAVA search settings are correct on your
    server
    SYS:\JAVA\BIN
    SYS:\JAVA\NWGFX\BIN
    SYS:\JAVA\NJCLV2\BIN
should all be in the path.
I have seen these entries as either missing or pointing to the wrong
location as a cause of similar problems.
