  • Help Required for Oracle 9i Installation on Fedora Core 3

    I am new to Linux on Oracle and wanted to set up oracle on Fedora Core 3.
    I have downloaded Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition
    for Intel Linux from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
    I have downloaded it on Windows XP Can any one please suggest me what should be the next steps to install it on Fedora Core 3?
    Thanks in advance

    So copy downloaded installation from Windows to Linux machine using SCP.
    You can download GUI SCP client here: http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
    If you preffer command line tool then you can use PSCP tool: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
    Then use some installation steps for Fedora for example you can use mine (follow exactly all steps):
    http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
    Just little advice don't use root to login to Linux computer, use oracle instead (once it is created).

  • Help tips for 4.6b installation on Fedora 8.

    Is there any particular conditions to follow while performing installation of 4.6b on Fedora 8. i did not find any documents related to it...?

    Dear Tony,
    Fedora 8 is not a supported plaform for SAP.
    Additionally, when installing older SAP releases on newer distributions like SLES10 or RHEL5 it may happen that you either have to use the EXT/EX2 kernels from SAP or install compatibility libraries for the distribution.
    Best Regards,
      Hannes
    PS: When installing on RHEL5 for example, follow SAP Note [1048303|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1048303]. General installation documentation is available at [https://service.sap.com/instguides|https://service.sap.com/instguides].

    Hmm, I think I've managed to answer my own question:
    In:

    Add
    -ldms2(Including the leading space).

  • Canon MF4150 installation on Fedora 18

    I cannot install the Canon drivers for my Image Class MF4150 on Fedora 18. I get a message saying the security signature is missing.  How can I rectify this? Can I create a security signature or can I bypass the need for such in some way?

    I tries to install OWB9.2 in Fedora 7 . While installing I got the error
    /media/OWB_9.2_Linux/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.3.1.0.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/jre/linux/bin/i386/native_threads/java: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I checked libstdc++ in /usr/lib directory I got following link file as
    libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
    How I resolve the problem Please help

    The problem is solved. One more question I have, in the Expression Operator, we have two groups, the input group and the output group. But if there is a need to have some attibutes for storing temporary calculations as well, before assigning them to the attributes of the output group, then under which group should these be made? I am asking for something like a variable group where the attibutes for storing temporary calculations will be made and these attributes can be used by the output group for sending the values to the next transformation.
    Please help ..

  • Installation error in invoking target 'agent nmhs'

    Dear All,
    I am new to this forum and I would like to inquire about the reasons behind a specific installation error of Oracle 11gR2 on Fedora 13 and the way to fix it. The error led to a weired behavior for the EM. I am going to explain everything precisely to flap the correspondence time so please please please bare with me.
    I have followed precisely all the pre-requisites for preparing the installation environment (Fedora 13 Linux OS) by following the instructions in the manual that comes on the source installation Disk-1of Oracle 11g R2, like assigning the environment variables, setting kernel parameters, installation of all the required and necessary packages, creating the necessary directories and changing the owner ship, in addition to creation the user 'oracle' and the necessary groups. This installation ends up with a successful working database that can be accessed using sqlplus locally and remotely from another machine. My EM also worked but for a limited period of time for only about 10 to 15 min then after that I cannot access it due to a problem in the agent background process or daemon that is resulted from the error happened during the installation, and need to restart my machine. Here is what happened.
    My installation is a stand alone database (database control / console database). Everything went smoothly during the installation except the following error that I couldn't get rid of or fix it, and I just continued the installation by clicking on the continue button of the OUI alert window. The error message on the alert window is:
    Error in invoking target 'agent nmhs' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/sysman/lib/ins_emagent.mk'. See '/u01/app/oraInventory/logs/installActions2010-06-24_03-22-15PM.log' for details.
    and here is the contenets (error part) of the installActions2010-06-24_03-22-15PM.log file

    Becuase of this error, the actual status of the database is not shown up in the EM. For example, if I try to startup my database through the EM, it starts successfully, but its status will not be shown, same thing happens for the listener. Clicking the View Details link in the EM after starting up the database shows up the following:

    After all the above, I beleive that the installation error is the cause of all that. I would appreciate it if you could help me solving this problem. Thanks.
    Bassam A. Al-Khaffaf

    Hi,
    I have successfully installed Oracle 11g R2 after some manual intervention to solve this linker error.
    The linker error actually gave the useful hint to solve this problem:
    INFO: /usr/bin/ld: /home/akos/app/akos/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/sysman/lib//libnmectl.a(nmectlt.o): undefined reference to symbol 'B_DestroyKeyObject'
    /usr/bin/ld: note: 'B_DestroyKeyObject' is defined in DSO /home/akos/app/akos/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libnnz11.so so try adding it to the linker command line
    /home/akos/app/akos/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libnnz11.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
    collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    This means that the gcc linker phase lacked an option for "-lnnz11". I run "make agent nmhs" manually,
    so the last command that gave an error can be copy&pasted to the command line. Adding "-lnnz11"
    after "-lcore11" to the command made it run successfully, and also re-running "make agent nmhs"
    on the command line didn't fail now. Then I chose the "Retry" button in the installer GUI and it proceeded.
    This change in the Fedora 13 linker was announced at
    http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/13/html/Release_Notes/sect-Release_Notes-The_GCC_Compiler_Collection.html
    In Fedora 12 and earlier it was allowed to an app with library A and the app was able to use symbols
    from every other libraries (B, C, ...) that library A was linked with. In Fedora 13 this is not allowed anymore,
    your app needs to be linked explicitely with library B, C, etc.
    Later, there was another problem with SELinux not allowing text relocation in .../product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1
    which was solved by running:
    chcon -t textrel_shlib_t '.../product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1'
    and re-running configuration of "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant". This allows keeping SELinux on.
    After that, installation and setup of the first database succeeded on Fedora 13.

  • ORA-12157 when installing Oracle 10g on Fedora 5?

    Hi, Im installing Oracle 10g on Fedora 5, I did it once, but when I tried to set it up again I
    got this error on the last part of the install...
    ORA-12157: TNS: internal network communication error
    Anybody know what might cause this?
    I think I have installed all required RPMs and set environment variables, kernel parameters,
    created oracle users and groups as needed, but still get the above error. I searched the error and some claim it is a problem using newer glibc 2.4.4, so I tried installing on Fedora 4 and had the same error even with glibc 2.3???
    Thanks so much,
    Jon

  • Oracle 10g Express on Fedora 14 64-bit howto

    I wanted to test Oracle 10g XE using VMware and Fedora 14 and found the installation instructions form Oracle somewhat outdated and confusing. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm. Here are my installation notes - perhaps someone will find them helpful.
    h3. Installation of Fedora and Oracle 10g XE:
    h4. 1) Install Fedora 14 Desktop 64-bit form the Live DVD using the defaults.
    Note: To open a terminal window, select Terminal from Applications/System Tools menu.
    h4. 2) Edit /etc/selinux/config to disable SELinux:
    # su - root
    # vi /etc/selinux/config
    SELINUX=disabled
    h4. 3) Install required software including 32-bit libraries:
    $ su - root
    # yum install install bc libc.so.6 libaio.so.1 gcc libaio compat-libstdc++-33
    h4. 4) Download and install Oracle 10g XE:
    http://technet.oracle.com
    $ su - root
    # cd /home/<your_usename>/Downloads
    # yum install --nogpgcheck oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm
    h4. 5) Configure Oracle 10g XE:
    # /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
    h4. 6) Configure your regular fedora user account:
    $ su - root
    # /usr/sbin/groupadd -r dba
    # usermod -G dba <your username>
    # su - <your username>
    $ echo "source /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle_env.sh" >> $HOME/.bashrc
    Logout for the change to take affect!
    To access the Database Home Page go to "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    h3. Remote Access:
    h4. 1) Enable remote ssh login:
    $ su - root
    # service sshd start
    # chkconfig --level 345 sshd on
    h4. 2) Configure Network Firewall from System/Administration menu:
    Other Ports
    Add
    User defined
    Do this for ports 8080 and 1521
    Apply
    h3. VMWare Tools installation:
    +Note: configure your guest OS for Bridged Networking and fixed IP+
    $ su - root
    # yum install gcc make kernel-devel perl
    At your VMware guest menu, select "install VMware Tools"
    Right click on VMwareTools-xxx.tar.gz and extract it to the Desktop
    Open a terminal window and type the following:
    $ su - root
    # cd /home/<your_username>/Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
    # ./vmware-install.pl
    Continue to press Return and accept defaults.
    # reboot
    h3. Troubleshooting:
    h4. ssh port 22: Connection refused
    The Network Firewall is enabled by default, but port 22 is open.
    You may try to simply disable/apply and enable/apply and try again - strange, but worked for me.
    ( +service iptables restart+ did not resolve this)
    h4. Check if the ssh daemon is running:
    # lsof -i tcp:22
    h4. Use sqlplus to reset your passwords:
    Make sure you properly configured your regular fedora user account as outlined above:
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> alter user sys identified by "password" account unlock;
    SQL> alter user system identified by "password" account unlock;
    h4. Start and stop Oracle XE:
    # su - root
    # /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
    # /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    h3. Related Links:

    I got Oracle 11gR2 running on 64-bit Fedora 14 x86_64 - you do need a mix of x64_86 and i686 (32-bit) packages as given here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32285/toc.htm
    These aren't exact matches on version numbers so when runInstaller doesn't pass validation, just check "Ignore". This will fail during linking, so follow along below and the rest will go smoothly:
    installation error in invoking target 'agent nmhs'
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Hi.
    So you want to build for fedora 13 without getting the error...
    When you start to install with ./runInstaller, run in another terminal window (as root)
    ls $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/lib/ins_emagent.mk
    At first this will produce an error, as the installer wont have created this file yet.
    Once the file exists, do:
    vi $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/lib/ins_emagent.mk
    Search for the line
    $(MK_EMAGENT_NMECTL)
    Change it to:
    $(MK_EMAGENT_NMECTL) -lnnz11
    If you do it within 30-40 seconds of the file appearing, you should not get any errors and the build will go fine. If you get an error, finish your edit then click on retry.
    Hope that helps.
    Gordon.

  • Btrfs May Be The Default File-System For Fedora 16

    Having a somewhat odd interest in different types of filesystems, I'd thought I'd share this snippet I wondered across.
    Brought up on the Fedora development list are the plans for Btrfs in Fedora, which provides a target of Fedora 16 when EXT4 will be replaced by Btrfs as the default Linux file-system on new installations.
    Fedora was one of the first distributions to deploy support for installing the Linux distribution to a Btrfs root file-system, while the Moblin/MeeGo camp has already turned to it as the default file-system, and now Fedora may finally have everything ready and are comfortable with the state of this Oracle-sponsored file-system.
    With the intended Fedora deployment of Btrfs, they will also switch from using LVM as the disk's volume manager to instead relying upon the volume management abilities built into Fedora itself. Fedora / Red Hat developers have previously already worked on taking advantage of other Btrfs features, like snapshots, to provide system roll-back support by creating a copy-on-write snapshot prior to each yum/RPM package transaction.
    In order to meet the Fedora 16 Btrfs target, Btrfs support needs to be merged into Fedora's GRUB package (or a separate non-Btrfs /boot file-system must be used), Red Hat's Anaconda must be hooked in to properly utilize Btrfs and its volume management features, and the Fedora LiveCD must be re-worked a bit to handle Btrfs. Additionally, the fsck support for Btrfs must be completed. Oracle's Chris Mason is nearly (circa 90%) complete with this task.
    Before Fedora 16 arrives we still have Fedora 15 to worry about, which will continue to offer Btrfs as a file-system option while EXT4 remains the default.
    Canonical is also evaluating when to switch to the Btrfs file-system and we may see that move similarly happen for Ubuntu 11.10.
    This would seem to imply that fedora is giving btrfs the big thumbs up! They currently release twice a year, and  fedora 15 is (I believe) Due out this May, so it wouldnt be too wrong to surmise that come Christmas btrfs would be the standard install option. However, I have always thought of fedora as being a little bit of a testing bed for red hat enterprise, so reading between the lines, I am thinking they want to release btrfs to the wild, and get the bugs sqwished so it can be incorporated into red hat, which is a good thing all round, for all concerned.
    Quote blatantly ripped from phoronix.
    wikipedia btrfs
    kernel.org btrfs

    There are, as I understand it, three big issues keeping Btrfs from hitting its final "stable" release:
    1) No true fsck (as of November, a fix is due "any time now")
    2) The logic used for subvolumes (a sort of "virtual LVM" setup) in Btrfs is wholly different from that used in Ext*, JFS, NTFS, HFS, etc; because of this, there isn't yet a single script/program that will accurately display space consumption.  Instead, the user needs to run a couple different commands and extrapolate.  A little annoying, but it doesn't affect stability.
    3) A bug in the COW aspect of the defrag command which, if run with an incorrect flag, can cause a doubling in the amount of metadata on the filesystem (and thus the amount of space it consumes).  Again, it won't wreck anything, but would make management tedious if one needs to restore a snapshot to get rid of extra cruft.
    These are all mentioned in the FAQ's on the Btrfs wiki, though the wiki doesn't give priority to any of them.  I'm guessing that, if Fedora 16 will be using this later in the year, the Oracle folks have told the Red Hat folks that they're planning on plowing through these issues very soon.
