Installation on Solaris 10 x64

Anybody succesfully installed SGD Enterprise 4.1 on Solaris 10 running on
an AMD Opteron system? I keep getting:
pwd: cannot determine current directory!
/tmp/install"some garbage": no home directory
If tried the pkgadd workaround, but this doesn't work

Thanks Mike. Problem solved.
Now I run into another error which I think I had in a past installation I have done on a suse machine:
SAPCAR is unable to extract SAP kernel executables from the installationmaster directory even though permissions are right:
MUT-03011  Execution of the command "/tmp/sapinst_exe.25861.1160659612/SAPCAR -x -v -g -i -f /UCKernel/DBINDEP/SAPEXE.SAR, instance.lst" finished with return code 29. Output:
SAPCAR: no archives specified for extracting (error 29). No such file or directory
I have tried calling SAPCAR from the command line and the SAPEXE.SAR is upacked fine.
Tried to shorten the absolute path and the error is the same.

  • BS 2005 SR3 Installation Master Solaris on x64 64bit

    Hi,
According to the SAP's Product Availability Matrix, DB2 is a supported database for installing SAP Netweaver 7.0, however when using the sapinst in BS 2005 SR3 Installation Master Solaris on x64 64bit, there is no option to select DB2 as the database.
Does anyone know if there is a workaround or another Installation Master that we can use for this?

    Hi Setu,
Which DB2 version are you using ?
If it is DB2 V9.5 then check SAP Note 1089578 - DB6: Using DB2 Version 9.5 with SAP Software

    2) How to SMI Label/Format a disk while OS Installation in Solaris 11.1?
As we know that ZFS is the default filesystem in Solaris 11.
We have seen in the Oracle documentation that for rpool below are recommended:
    - A disk that is intended for a ZFS root pool must be created with an SMI label, not an EFI label.
    - Create root pools with slices by using the s* identifier.
    - ZFS applies an EFI label when you create a storage pool with whole disks.
    - In general, you should create a disk slice with the bulk of disk space in slice 0.
I have seen the solution that using format -e, we change the labelling but all the data will be lost, whats the way to apply a SMI Label/Format on a rpool disks while OS Installation itself.
Please provide me the steps to SMI Label a disk while installaing Solaris 11.1 OS.

Oracle recommends below things on rpool: (thats reason wanted to apply SMI Label)

  • Installation error Solaris 10-u6-ga1

I must be missing something really obvious on the installation of Solaris 10 U6. I've come up against the error message upon manually partitioning, and using UFS. After the install the error is:
Solaris 10 10 software installation partially failed
    Solaris 10 packages partially installed
    SUNWlur
Then at reboot it loops and loops
If I install using ZFS no problem. Unfortunately I have to use UFS for this install.
I pulled down the sol-10-u6-x86-ga1 dvd and installed on an Vmware to see what I'd get. If I manually setup the drive, it fails to with the same error.
Here is my drive layout both sparc server and vmware(x86)
    / = 10 Gb
    swap = 10 Gb
    /etc = 10 Gb
    /usr = 10 Gb
    /var = 10 Gb
    /export=remaining drive space.
    I'm I missing something obvious?
    thanks
    bill

There should be more information in the install log about why the one package failed. If you search for the package name in the log you should be able find it. Then that might help determine whether the package can be installed on its own, possibly fixing your reboot issue.

  • How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10

How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10
    Hi Java Specialist,
I am trying to setup a network interface with the following steps on a new fresh Solaris 10 installation using the instruction titled How to Add a Physical Interface After Installation in Solaris 10 3/05 ONLY from http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/816-4554/esxhb/index.html:
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb up
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment prior to installing Solaris
    10 on top of it.
    3. # Added saturn to /etc/hostname.lo0.
    4. # Added 10.56.8.101 to /etc/inet/hosts
    5. # Added 10.56.0.0     255.255.240.0 to /etc/inet/netmasks
    6.# reboot
However, the following errors kept recurring:
svcs –xv …. unable to qualify my own domain name,
    failed with exit status 69.
Any idea on what other steps have I missed? I was hoping to only do step 3 – 6 for the change to apply permanently.
    Many thanks,
    Jack

Hi Java Specialist,... in a Solaris forum?
    1. # ifconfig lo0 plumb upThe loopback connection (your lo0)is NOT a physical interface. There are no hardware components for it. Nor can I think of any reason why it should ever be anything other than the default 127.0.0.1
Use your favorite Internet search site (such as Google, Bing, Yahoo) to learn more about it.
    2. # ifconfig lo0 10.56.8.101 netmask 255.255.240.0. This was the working Windows DHCP environment ...I have no idea how a nonexistent software construct gets a DHCP address in a MS Operating System, unless you are confusing this with the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" which is an utterly different concept. Again, go see what Google tells you.
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
... completely unrelated to configuring an IP...
unable to qualify my own domain nameAgain, search the Internet or even search these forums with that string of words.
Go back through your two most recent posts and read the responses again.
They seem to both be on the same topic as this new one -- configuring an IP on something.
How to initialize new IP address on secondary interface permanently
How to change IP address permanently on Solaris 10
When you've done all that, then come back and tell us what you are actually trying to do.

Are you trying to install Solaris 9 onto a server that is already running Windows XP and to keep Windows XP too?
You'll need to create a partition on which to install Solaris, - search for Solaris Windows Dual Boot on docs.sun.com for more information.

  • Problems enabling service port on Solaris 10 x64

    Hi
I am having difficulty allowing a remote machine to connect to a PostgreSQL server running on a Solaris 10 x64 machine. I have edited the /etc/services to open the port and the protocol, and I have manually started the Postgre server, so I should be able to telnet to the port from the remote machine, but no luck. I keep on getting a error saying that the port is closed on the server. When I am on the server, I can telnet to the port and connect, but from a remote server, no luck. Is there anyone that can help me with this??
    Kind Regards
    Manie

    Hello.
I have edited the /etc/services ...This will have no effect. The /etc/services file is there to map names to port numbers (e.g. "telnet myserver myport" will be mapped to "telnet myserver 1234"). It has no effect on opening the port itself.
There may be two reasons why you cannot access the service from a remote computer:
    a) The port is only bound on localhost:
Type netstat -a -f inet |grep LISTEN |moreYou will see a list of all open TCP ports.
An entry that begins with something like "*.12345" means: Port 12345 is open. An entry that begins with "localhost.12345" means: Port 12345 is open for connections coming from localhost only. For connections from other computers the port is closed.
In this case you will have no chance. You may write a special C server program that tunnels connections.
(Just for info: "hostname_or_ip_address.12345" would mean: All computers that see us as hostname_or_ip_address can connect. Other computers - e.g. at the second network card or even "localhost" - cannot connect.)
    b) You have a firewall active that blocks the access to the port.

I have checked on __builtin_expect and it I cannot find it in with the system's include files. I have also looked at the web and from what I read I understand the for solaris this is not strictly necessary.
The package was developed at Universitaet Trier, and there is an email I have used, but just in case, I would be grateful to see how I could - without knowing the full code get it to compile and useable.

You can try the following macro definition to convert uses of __builtin_expect to standard code (but without branch-prediction information):
#define __builtin_expect(e, n) ((e)==(n))I think the correct definition would be:
    #define __builtin_expect(e,n) (e)

  • Need Agent Installer for Solaris (SPARC)

    Hi All,
I have downloaded Grid Control Agent Installer for Solaris from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/agentsoft.html.
When I tried to extract the zip file, I am getting the following error message.
"Can not open file. It does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again."
Even I tried using http://sac.us.oracle.com/download/index.html also but getting the same error.
Please send me the location if you have,
    Thanks
    Sumathi

Most commands are identical. Performance analysis, loading all are similar. Tape interaction, creation of tape devices is going to be pretty much the same.
The differences show up a lot at the hardware level. HBAs aren't usually the same, many drivers (and their quirks) are different between the architectures. If you're debugging connectivity to a tape library, those differences may be critical.
So you can't get as close as you may want, but I'll bet it would still be helpful.

  • EBS in Solaris 10 X64

Hi everybody. I have a licensing doubt.
Sorry if this kind of question is misplaced...
    I have a running EBS 7.4 software server in a Sun Fire X2200M2 Solaris 10 8/07
I know that the Console Server (SUNWebsg) works in Solaris 10 SPARC but not in Solaris 10 X64, then I install the Console in a Solaris 10 in a Sun Fire V240 and control the X2200's (amd64) server from this interface.
To install the SUNWebsg package requires the client and server in the same box, but I dont want to use them, I only use the server of the X2200M2's EBS server.
Do I need to pay the EBS server licenses in both machines when I only use one?
The Console Server software has an independent license mode for Solaris X64?
What is the best way to administrate a X64 EBS server?
    Thanks in advance

I found out about Update 4 very shortly after posting this, and I have now upgraded. Unfortunately, the problem still persists.

  • Help Requested - Creating Solaris 10 x64 Virtual Machine on an ESX Server

    Hi All,
I have been trying to create a Solaris 10 64 bit Virtual Machine on ESX and VMWare server Virtualization Platform.
One of the forum entries said - The installer doesn't really care. At every boot, the processor type will be determined and a 32-bit or a 64-bit kernel will be run (unless you override it)
I hence downloaded the iso from http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/get.jsp and I installed it. When I run uname -a command on the terminal, this is what is displayed -
    SunOS unknown 5.10 Generic_127128-11 i86pc i386 i86pc
This indicates that the kernel is 32 bit right?
Please help me create the 64 bit VM.
