DO I need SFRAC for Oracle 10g RAC on Sun Solaris

My platform is SUN Solaris 10 64 bit on v490 server. On the backend side, we are using EMC CX500 storage. We will use Veritas File system and Veritas CFS.
I would like to ask, Do I must need SFRAC to configure Oracle 10g RAC or Can I just use only Oracle CRS. I do not want to use ASM.

The VCFS usually requires a Veritas Cluster, thus you would have to use the product combination that is bundled as SFRAC as mentioned before. Metalink in addition says:
10 10gR2 64-bit Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC 5.0 Certified
There is one exception to this rule: Linux.
Veritas and Oracle support a standalone version of the Veritas Cluster Files System (and only this component) on Linux. This does not hold true for Solaris.
Concluding, if you want to use the VCFS you would need to get a VCS, which then basically means using SFRAC.
However, in this case, as mentioned before, you would not need ASM.

Kernel parameter settings ,OS patches and packages

Hello,
We are going to install 11.2.0.3 on Oracle Solaris 11(Sparc 64bit).
There is no kernel settings information for solaris 11 in installation guide.

SOA Suite on WLS - backup and cloning strategy

Hello everybody.
Is there any best practices for implementing backups and cloning for SOA Suite instances deployed on WLS 9.2 ?

It has been a long time since I looked at this, try this location.
BEA_HOME\user_projects\domains\SOADomain\servers\OracleSOAServer\logs\OracleSOAServer.log
The path maybe slightly differerent for you depending on some of the parameters you set at install time.
From memory I think you need to increase logging levels from the admin console but I'm not 100%

removing this. It might be trying things out with the
old driver and then moving to the new driver. This has nothing to do with it. (And it doesn't "try things out")

after i installed the oracle10g 10.2.0.1,and tried to install the patch set (10.2.0.4)

My OS platform is HP-UX B.11.23 IA64
the error info as follow :

The same problem is documented on Oracle metalink:
OUI 10.2 Prerequisite Check Fails With OUI-15038 And "[value for param now is null]" [ID 602059.1]:
Cause
Some kernel tunables (parameters) have been changed but the new values will not be activated until the next server reboot
Solution
Reboot the server so that the kernel tunable (parameter) changes are activated before installing the Oracle software
Workaround
The errors/warnings can be ignored and the Oracle installation can be completed successfully, but it is best to schedule a reboot of the server soon so that the pending kernel parameter changes are activated.

PSU patching and Grid Infrastructure installation

GRID version: 11.2.0.3 , 11.2.0.2

Found a similair post by spiral in OTN on. But couldn't find the answer there; hence posting this
We install grid using Grid Installer GUI. When doing a fresh installation of Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 or 11.2.0.3 in a new server , I want to apply its latest PSU as well. When should I do this PSU patching ?
A. Should I apply the GI PSU after the entire Grid installation is successfully completed ?
or
B. Should I apply the GI PSU just before running the root.sh ?
      ie. when the installer prompts you to run root.sh (see the screenshot below)

Also you have a option to decide if you want to use the Software Updates option during Installation.

Oracle recommends that you enable software updates during installation.
If you choose to enable software updates, then during installation you must provide a valid My Oracle Support user name and password during installation, so that OUI can download the latest updates, or you must provide a path to the location of an software updates packages that you have downloaded previously.
If you plan to run the installation in a secured data center, then you can download updates before starting the installation by starting OUI on a system that has Internet access in update download mode. To start OUI to download updates, enter the following command:
$ ./runInstaller -downloadUpdatesProvide the My Oracle Support user name and password, and provide proxy settings if needed. After you download updates, transfer the update file to a directory on the server where you plan to run the installation.

My CD/DVD drive reads regular CDs/DVDs but installation DVDs such as iWork's and office for Mac it spits it out after trying to read it. Please help!!!

For some reason when I insert installation discs for programs like iWork's and office for Mac the drive does not read the disc. I tried movies and music and they worked perfectly. I was able to fix the problem with the iWork's disc by creating a disc image in another drive, I have yet to do this with the Office for Mac but I would like to know what could be the reason for this problem. Any help is appreciated.

I forgot that I have an extended AppleCare Protection Plan, I contacted Apple today (in Sydney) and they took me through step by step. I tried inserting my OS X disc and it accepted it, I tried putting in a commercial DVD (Star Wars) and it started playing. I then tried putting in a commercial CD and it wouldn't work through iTunes. It made incredibly sick whirring noises and then eventually (approx 5 minutes later) appearred on my desktop, but iTunes7 would not recognise the disc.
Then he suggested I log in under another username which I did... Then my drive prompty died. It does not accept any disc now. He said that I need to have my iBook seen to by a technician. Since I have the extended warranty, my repair shouldn't cost me anything (the extended warranty was ovver $400, so it better not cost anything), so I can't give you an indication as to what you will be up for.
You do not need o take your iBook to the place where you bought it, but ensure you have your sales receipt.

I have been updating my PSE since 10. Recently I purchased PSE13 as I didn't see an update for my 12. I was changing to a new laptop as my old laptop had been patched and worked and was showing signs of giving out. It was a Window's 7OS. My new one is a Windows 8 OS so I bought the 13 and downloaded it on the new laptop. Our desktop had died so I downloaded the 13 on the new desk computer also. Not thinking I downloaded 13 on my old laptop as I hope to get it patched up enough to be a backup for my photography. When I tried to activate it I realized that I had downloaded it too often. I didn't know you could only use it on two computers. Learn something new every day.. Any way I removed it and now my PSE 12 does not seem to be working. Now it could be something that I did or something that is an issue with the laptop. this laptop has all the previous editions on board as I always tried to update, except for the year I got a really good deal on Black Friday. I also notice that the new laptop has a copy of PSE 12 in the program list. To my knowledge I have never deactivated any of my PSE's except the extra 13 downloaded. Bottom line, do I need to go in and deactivate previous PSE versions and removed them from my computer? I could certainly use the space and secondly, can I deactivate the PSE 12 and then go back and reacitivate it and install it again on the old laptop or the desktop, whichever I deside would be the most appropriate place for the newer program. For the PSE 12 since it is an updater for 11, does the 11 still need to be on the laptop? thanks for anyone who can understand what I am trying to say and can advise me as to my next move. OK. If both of you are Windows 7. Make sure you go to Windows update (START button, type in Windows Update). Check for updates and update whatever that are available. (especially Microsoft .NET Framework 4 )
After that see if you still get this error message.
The last resort would be to unistall and reinstall the whole thing.
Follow the steps below:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

I am trying to install iTunes on my laptop that runs Windows 8.1
I have tried several solutions discussed in similar questions but none worked
-uninstalled and reinstalled
-cleaned C drive for all Apple products
-tried to install security update’ Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update’ but the same error appeared
-Windows module installer is enabled

Hi tKalra - I got the same error and finally managed to install itunes successfully. Below is what happened with me.
I have Windows7 64 bit. I downloaded itunes 10.6.3 for windows64bit and started the installation wizard by opening the downloaded file. At one stage I got the same error you have mentioned above. I started googling to find a solution and thats how I found your post. Anyway I went through lot of other posts that suggested lot of different things but I just wanted to try my own thing first.
So what I did is to go through with the wizard by clicking ok on the error. I then got an error about apple mobile device service not running. I ignored and went ahead with the installation. Installation finished but the itunes wont start giving the service not running error. I tried to manually start the service but it gave a privilege error.
I then went to control panel and uninstalled itunes, apple mobile device thing and bonjour..basically what ever was from apple. Then I also went to start -> run -> regedit and checked for any registry keys for apple under local user and local computer. Deleted if found. Restarted and then just right clicked on the itunes setup file that was downloaded and ran it as administrator. That did it for me. So I am guessing it was privilege thing but not sure. Hope this helps.
