    I got it going.
This was the 10.2 download from OTN installing to MS Windows XP SP2.
Turns out that OUI won't start if the total length of the full directory path string is too long (to setup.exe or oui.exe). Solution was to move it closer to the base directory ("\") or to rename directories to make them shorter.

  • Itunes encountered problem and needs to be closed

i keep trying to open itunes, but before it even opens, it says theres a problem and needs to be closed. is there anyway i can fix this?

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, make sure that any antivirus/antispyware application you have is set to allow iTunes to operate. Some antivirus/antispyware has been known to shut down iTunes.
If that still doesn't help, take a look at iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch failures
If that still doesn't work, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to be closed - launch message

Well like others..now you see it ....now you don't.
    Where did my iTunes go.
I get the above message when trying to launch iTunes.
I have tried unistalling and reinstalling, tried the stand alone quicktime player etc etc
Please help, tell me it is something simple
ps, my ArcSoft video editor has now got the same message

I am in the same boat as some of the other posters. My iTunes for the Windows XP computer has always been touchy and it sometimes freezes up if I transfer a large number of files to my iPod but i could always start it up again. Now I get the same "encountered a problem" message. My problems did not start until the Apple Updater downloaded and installed the newest iTunes software.
I have tried the following steps from other similar posts before bring my troubles to this board. Nothing has worked so far.
    1. removed both iTunes and Quicktime
    2. turned off antivirus and antispyware and firewall programs
    3. reinstalled each separetely and Quicktime starts perfectly
    4. removed preference files for iTunes
    5. i actually restored my iPod defaults just incase that was the problem.
At this point I would be happly with an older version of iTunes that worked previously. I have an older PC so if the current iTunes is not compatable where could I find an older working version of iTunes. I have an older iPod and have no interest in video or pictures.

itunes version 7.1.1 tried some fresh installations and tried diffirent installation paths

First check to see if Quicktime works, iTunes can't work without it.
If Quicktime doesn't work, uninstall it and install the stand alone version, option 2 from here:

  • RCConsole MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close

Alright, heres the issue. I am a computer lab admin trying to remote
view workstations in my lab. I am running ConsoleOne from the server,
once i start ConsoleOne I will be able to remote view/control maybe one
or two computers before i get the error "RCConsole MFC Application has
encountered a problem and needs to be closed immediately"
I can fix this by going into the task manager and closing the
RCConsole.exe process. However i might get one or two computers before
it comes back. I searched the internet for a solution to this and heard
that if i copy the ConsoleOne directory from the server to my local
machine it will work. So I did that and yes it did work, however we are
running a diskless boot system and if I were to copy the directory to
the local machine it would be gone as soon as I reboot.
Ive done some random testing and discovered the following
the console one directory is located on the server in
    /sys/public/mgmt/consoleone/1.2/bin
i tried copying the console one directory to the root c: and it worked
    fine
then i tried copying it to my network drive on the server
    /data/home/grastyc/consoleone/1.2/bin and it worked fine
so based on that i tried mapping a drive to /sys/public/mgmt and tried
running it from there, didnt work.
Any help would be much appreciated

  • Reader 9 causes message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." whenever a tab is closed.

After installing reader 9, Internet Explorer gives the message: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." everytime I close an internet window. If I remove reader 9, the problem no longer occurs. Reinstalling reader 9 causes the problem to return. I got rid of reader 8.1.4 because it was not working properly. Any suggestions about this issue?

  • Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.2.r202 has encountered a problem and needs to close

Seems that with the last 3 or 4 Flash Player updates, once the update is complete but before the installer actually exits, I get an error message box telling me that "Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.2.r202 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.", etc., etc., etc.  I've received this error message numerous times as most of the computers I work on are Windows XP SP3 (all updates) with Internet Explorer 8 as the browser, including my own computer and my wife's.  If I could copy & paste the details, I would.  But the temp file that's supposed to be created for error reporting purposes, isn't, and I'm not going to spend the next half an hour transcribing all the technical details.  I just want you to be aware there's a problem with your installer.       -kd5150-

I'm sorry you are running into this crash.  To help investigate the problem, we'll need you to do a few things for us.
First, add the following line to the file mms.cfg (open in Notepad)
    SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1
You can find the mms.cfg file here:
    xp, vista, and windows 7 32bit: c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\mms.cfg
    windows 7 64bit: c:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash\mms.cfg
Next, we'll want to get a crash dump so we can see what's going wrong.  You can enable crash logging on Windows Vista or 7 using the following steps:
Download the following files: Enable Crash Logging.reg and Disable Crash Logging.reg.
Double-click the Enable Crash Logging.reg file. Click Yes in the Registry Editor dialog.
    Restart your computer.
    Let the updater/installer crash occur
After the crash, open a file browser window and type the following in the navigation bar:%localappdata%
    Go to the CrashDump folder.
Select the most recent file that appears with the extension .dmp.
Double-click the Disable Crash Logging.reg file downloaded in Step 1 and click OK.
    Restart your computer.
Zip up the .dmp file and mail it (or a dropbox link) to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
    For XP, follow these steps:
Show hidden files.  For more details, see the instructions for Windows XP.
Repeat the steps that resulted in the installer crash
After the crash, open the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
Locate the file named with the extension .dmp that corresponds with the correct date and time
Zip up the .dmp file and mail it (or a dropbox link) to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
In addition to the .dmp, please post or send me your Flash Installation.log.
Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows?

  • ITunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I accidentally removed apple mobile device support so now I can't charge my ipod touch on my computer. I uninstalled itunes and tried reinstalling the latest one and got the message:
iTunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I tried removing temporary internet files, deleting all itunes/quicktime related files from registry, all related folders, setups, and pretty much anything related to it. I try reinstalling different versions but that message still appears. The installing bar goes to a different percentage each time. The farthest one went to about 90%
Does anyone know a solution? I had to resort to buying an AC adapter but it's inconvenient for me.

i found a way around the setup problem.. i created a new account on windows and tried to download and when it wouldnt work i looked at the tech part of the error report.. anyway there were 2 files with TEMP in it so i went to the temp folder and there was a weird folder with all random letters and numbers so after i deleted that the setup would work on the next account.. however on my old account it still wont download =/ but this is a good fix for now

    Error Code: c0000005
    Address: 75e32f71
I clicked on the OK button and the downloader closed.
I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download.  I redownloaded everything and reinstalled.  I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work.  I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year.  Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years.  I think I might need a new CODEC?   I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely different

I finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted".  I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe .  Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old  but they still don't support it on errors.  Only install errors!
I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now.  I will find something else next time!

I just recently had no choice but to do a destructive recovery of my pc. I am now re-downloading all of my old software and I got to iTunes. I can download the installer just fine. But when I try to run the installer, after opening it and clicking run, I get the hour glass for about 40 seconds, then I get "iTunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. But when I try to run the installer, after opening it and clicking run, I get the hour glass for about 40 seconds, then I get "iTunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Yes, that's quite a rare one conor. It seems to be associated with "silent" installer failures, and the "invalid signature" and "unknown publisher" error messages. In those cases, most often the installers seem to have been getting damaged during the download to the PC.
Checking on simpler possibilities first. Have you been downloading the installer from the Apple website?
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If so, does it make any difference if you do the download with (say) Firefox rather than IE (or vice versa)?
