Installation problem on  9iAS on Lunix platform

Hi,
I have already installed Linux 7.3 plus Oracle 9i release 2 in my PC, and then today I
am going to install 9iAS and the error messages shown 'Your local host file database
file (typically /etc/hosts' is not configured properly when i choose 'J2EE and Web Cache' in RunInstaller. my host file in /etc/hosts has been setup.
anybody can help me !!!!

I'm getting the following error:
"There is no non empty value found for variable s_jservPort under section Ports in file /u01/oracle/product/9IAS/Apache/Apache/ports.ini"
The ports.ini file contains the specified s_jserv_Port = 8007. OK. This was probably due to installing it a 2nd time, without de-installing and so the whole section of the .ini file
was duplicated.
I currently have a 9.0.1 database installed. I did remove the oracle_home and sid lines from the .bash_profile before installation of 9iAS.
I am not sure how the http port system works and what I have to check to make sure that any other application isn't using the same port.I have since found out how to switch off the http server ( $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl stop )
Also, should I have my seperate 9i database shutdown? I did.It would seem that it needs to be active for a connection to create it's own database.
Am I correct in saying that version 1.0.2.2.0 installs a new 8.1.7 database and installs everything required for the program to run in this database? Yup.
Once installation is finished do I set my ORACLE_HOME and SID to my 9i database or 9IAS directories?
Still not sure on this one... haven't sucessfully installed yet.
Can I not just use the same 9i database for everything. The installation document didn't seem to go on and explain the archicture of how it all hangs together when installation is complete or any options I had along the way.
The installation document assumes too much knowledge for my liking.

    Hi,
    The first ORA error in the stack suggests that something is wrong with the file size (for file example01.dbf).
    The OS-specific error message says:
    OSD-04012

    Cause: The file to be re-used is either too large or too small.

  • 9iAS installation problems w/ db cache and Portal

    I am still trying for a succesful installation of the 9ias software. I have followed all of the suggestions that have been posted and I am now getting TNS cannot resolve service name during the database cache part of the install. I checked services and it seems that this install didn't set up a TNSListener service for the 9iSuites home? I set the oracle_sid = icache as it instructs in the appendix, set the o7_dictionary_accessibility = true, and renamed the spfile to a .txt file so Oracle wouldn't find it. Subsequent to the database cache errors, the Portal install can't find the database either. I'm frustrated because I had the server up and running succesfully with an 8.1.7 db and I'm trying to switch to 9iDB. Any help would be greatly appreciated! My boss is getting a little impatient.
    Thanks.

    Mark,
    I was succesful on my 4th try. This is what I did differently and I'm not sure what triggered success.(a preface: database cache was not succesful but portal was). After install of db I followed these suggestions before install of 9ias(plus others offered by Tao Fan in a previous post:
    in the init.ora file:
    set o7_dictionary_accessibility=true(this is an o, not 0)
    comment out the 'dispatchers' line.
    rename the spfile in the <oracleHome>\database directory(i changed mine to xspfile.txt). Make sure you restart the db after any changes to the init.ora file. Set all oracle services to manual and disable the http server. Stop all services.
    Start your install. Mine hung at 100% complete with a command window open. Before I closed the command window I started the database service but not the listener. The install proceeded to fail during the db cache and portal install. I exited out of the install, started the dbTNSlistener, and any iSuitesagent services(not sure if this helped but I'm happy now!)Then, I restarted the machine. Then start/programs/iSuites/portalConfigAssistant and it worked.
    If none of this makes sense I can email you the documentation I kept while installing.

    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE
    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000
    and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be affected.
    Description
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    When installing Oracle Products with the Oracle Universal
    Installer (8.1.x)
    on machines that use the Sun JRE and Symmantec JIT, the
    installer hangs.
    Specifically for the Windows platform, the following version
    of the Symmantec
    JIT or earlier will encounter the failure:
    Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for JDK
    1.2.
    Details regarding this issue can be found at:
    http://developer.intel.com/design/processor/future/manuals/knowni ssue.htm
    How to determine if you have Symmantec Java for JDK 1.2:
    1. Select the file "symcjit.dll" and right click on it.
    2. Select Properties, then the Version tab.
    3. Under Microsoft Windows*, the properties of the DLL are:
    "Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
    JDK 1.2 Copyright (C)
    1996-99 Symantec Corporation Dynamic Link Library file".
    DLLs older than this will also not work. "
    Likelihood of Occurrence
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE
    and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
    Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be
    affected.
    Possible Symptoms
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The failure typically is that the affected application simply
    terminates.
    Workaround
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the
    post-install
    configuration tools will also be affected. Running these
    tools with "-nojit"
    specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify
    "-nojit" for
    some of the products.
    The following workaround works for the Windows operating
    system:
    a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard
    disk ,say, e:\temp.
    b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications
    (Assuming CD
    drive is f:)
    * Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:\stage\products.jar)
    * Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    JRE_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles
    \Expanded)
    * Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
    CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    OUI_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataF
    iles\Expanded
    * Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the
    first argument.
    (i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
    ^^^^^^
    * Other entries should remain the same
    c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard
    drive (i.e.
    e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the
    modified
    oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since
    the absolute
    locations are specified.
    Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database
    during the
    install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will
    not be launched
    during installation.
    The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and
    there is no way
    to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration
    Assistant if it
    hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been
    successful, and
    you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
    To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
    In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8
    Configuration
    Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for
    the most recent
    JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually.
    NOTE: the OUI
    itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one
    with the most
    recent date, which should be the jre process being used for
    Net8CA, not the
    one for OUI itself.
    After killing the configuration tools and continuing through
    the installation
    to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the
    configuration tools
    to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the
    Start Menu.
    Once installation is complete, each of the following files in
    the ORACLE_HOME
    needs to be modified:
    assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
    assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
    assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
    bin\elogin.cl
    bin\owm.cl
    ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
    network\tools\netasst.cl
    network\tools\netca.cl
    owm\install\instelogin.cl
    owm\install\instowm.cl
    Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown
    below:
    Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit
    -classpath ....
    this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
    Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from
    the Start Menu.
    Patches
    ~~~~~~~
    Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal
    with this
    problem, the workaround listed above must be used.
    The solution of making a local copy of the installation CD on
    Windows ME
    Solution to the installation of Oraclei8.1.7 PE in Windows Millennium
    Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.7 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
    As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
    to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
    After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
    Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
    autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
    statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
    LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
    confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
    registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
    Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
    Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
    product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
    You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
    1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
    machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
    2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
    C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
    \DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
    3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
    4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
    ===============================================================
    When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
    1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
    2. Install the java file.
    There is also a problem in the installation disk.
    3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
    4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
    5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.
    PLEASE NOTE THAT ORACLE DOESN'T SUPPORT THE USE OF THOSE PRODUCTS IN WINDOWS ME, BUT HAVE AUTHORIZED THESE WORKAROUNDS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY
  • Problem install 9iAS -
    Hi All,
    I am trying to install 9iAS (9.0.3) on my win2k Pro machine - and got weird problem.
    First time I installed, everything went ok and worked fine. - However, since I have Oracle8i installed before and somehow Toad was screwed after 9iAS installation, I de-installed 9iAS (using Universal Installer come with 9iAS CD)
    Weird problem happens ever since - it always pop up error (at 30% of "Setting up Install Types" bar):
    All Oracle9iAS installations on a host must be installed by the same operating system user. The initial Oracle9iAS installed at ... was installed by a different operating system user. .....
    The problem is that I definetely used same user name (indeed, besides admin, I am the only user who can login to this machine)
    Any suggestions will be appreciated!
    Warren
    I cleaned registy many times using regedit (deleted anything related to 9i)- no use
    I have 8.1.7 installed, and when install 9ias, error message says there's a previous 9i installation at my 8.1.7 directory (C drive) by different user - not make sense
    because (1) the first time I install 9i, I put 9ihome in D drive. (2) I install 8.1.7 using same username
    The only thing changed is the user password to login to my computer. It's really weird.
    Help!
    I'm trying to install the new iTunes 6.0 and I'm getting a message during installation that says
    HpSdpAppCoreApp
    "The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable.
    Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative pathway to a folder containing the installation package "HpSdpAppCoreApp.msi" in the box below."
    The last time I dug through some files on my own, bad things happened.
    Thanks,
    C
    good gracious, Chris ...
    okay, try applying the general advice on installation problems given here:
    ... and the InstallShield Tips and Pointers are also helpful with these less-well-documented errors:
  • Installation problem on SUSE 12.1
    Hi
    I'm a Linux beginner and I am trying to install LV on SUSE 12.1
    I've also posted my problems on Lava:
    http://lavag.org/topic/15240-labview-installation-problem-on-suse-121/
    The installation started and it looks quite all right, but when I try to start LabVIEW, the application just sits in the taskbar for about 20 seconds and then just disappears.
     Any ideas?
    Is there a way to debug to see what's going on?
    Cheers,
    Mike
    Hi Mike,
    Unfortunately, there are no versions of LabVIEW supported on SUSE 12.1 at present. Here's a link to LabVIEW version compatibility with different Linux distributions. I saw from your other forum that you're attempting to install LabVIEW 2009, which is certified for SUSE 11.0 at the latest.
Always if we try to install any java, we get a failure message with no error discription. So we looked for some installation logs, but I can't find the problem. Can you have a look? What can I do?
  • Xp_logininfo Installation problem
    Hello gurus,
    I'm facing the same problem as described in this link:
    Re: xp_logininfo "Installation problem on windows 2003 with Sql 2005"
    the error I get is similiar:
    <i>The below message comes from executing the command master..xp_logininfo '<domain>\<user> ' Msg 15404, Level 16, State 11, Procedure xp_logininfo, Line 62 Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user '<domain>\<user> ', error code 0x534. The statement has been terminated</i>
    but I just don't get how to solve it.
    -I've tried to use the profiler but didn't find any information that will help me to solve.
    -One of the guys wrote to add "logon rights" to the user ... what does it mean ?
    Please advice,
    Dimitry Haritonov
    Hi sven,
    Thank you very much for the quick and direct answer.
    The problem was that the user that runs the SQL SERVER service didn't have authorization to retrieve information from active directory.
    I've changed the service user, run the sapinst again, and after it succeeded I've returned the previous user.
    Best regards,
    Dimitry Haritonov
