Installation problems on Intel Mac. claims PPC

I'm trying to install the current Flash Player 10.2 on my Macbook 6,1 (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.26GHz) with 4GB RAM, running OSX 10.6.6
Browser is Firefox 3.6.13 {Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13}
I got the installer from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
The installer puts up a message: "Devices with PowerPC processors are no longer supported"
How can I convince the installer that this isn't a PPC machine ?  Why might the installer think so ?

Hi, What browser are you using to try to Uninstall/Install FP vs 10.2? And when you Install 10.1, what browser are you using?
There is no Flash Player support for a 64bit browser. I have been very busy on the Forum and have not had time to check on the 10.3 beta. Not sure what it refers to. Have you? Just asking as I've seen it mentioned on another thread, but it's from those complaining about 10.2 not working. Why anyone would want a beta Installed unless they are involved in the testing and are Developers I don't know.
Any beta is a work in progress, so as long as a user is aware of that it's ok with me. Microsoft has their IE9 in beta too, but with an beta one can expect problems.
Since the 10.2 is not Installing, then I don't think you'd receive any code, do you?
I'm not as familiar with the Mac, but is it possible to upgrade the OS from a PPC to the edition you have now?
I'm going to check a couple of things while you let me know on the above browser info. Also any comments would be welcome:-)
Thanks,

  • Rsync: Problem on Intel Mac

    Hello together,
I want to use rsync to backup files between my Intel Mac (iMac 20'') and my PPC Mac (G4 450 sawtooth).
This works except that the ressource forks and other files starting with ._ can not be transfered.
    rsync -aE /sourcpath remotehost:/targetpath/
I keep getting lots of errors like
    file has vanished: "/path/._filename"
    file has vanished: "/path/._filename"
    file has vanished: "/path/._filename"
The files are transfered, but the ressourcforks are not.
    How can I solve this?
    Best regards
    Martin
    G4 Sawtooth, iBook G4 800   Mac OS X (10.4)

I don't know if this is what is causing your problem, but I have seen these types of errors using 'rsync' on 10.4 where the source and destination are on different volumes, and one volume has ACLs enabled, whereas the other doesn't. Once, while doing an incremental backup, 'rsync' actually went and stripped off every single resource fork in my backup - not just those of files that would have been modified since the previous backup. I didn't bother to keep ACLs enabled long enough to troubleshoot after that.
Both ACL support, and support in various command line utilities for preserving resource forks or file attributes are features newly introduced in 10.4 - it looks like there still may be some kinks to work out with respect to how they interact...

  • V10.3 says "can't install" because my Intel Mac is "PPC"

Something is really wacky. I DL'd the 10.3 Flash Player installer on my friend's Intel iMac (and, yes, it's a 27" Core2Duo 2009 model running 10.6.8). When I attempt to install it, the installer complains that I need the PPC version and won't install. It directs me to a link where I can DL the PPC installer which, of course, won't work on an Intel iMac.
    How do I resolve this?

    Jay,
I have the same problem when installing upgrades to existing programs.  I've searched the communities pretty thoroughly and there doesn't seem to be a permanent fix for the problem, but there are two work arounds that seems pretty robust.
First, some folks have reported if when you get the first "info.plist in use" error to clear the error message and simply wait instead of attempting to move the application into the application folder (or the icon in the dmg file for the application folder) again.  I have found personally that waiting about 30 seconds often solves the problem.
The other option is to "manually" open the application folder and throw the older version of the application into the trash and then drag the new version into the applications folder.  Be aware with this strategy that sometimes you will get the same info.plist error message when trying to discard the existing app.  Again, waiting seems to solve the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Vista Installation on New Intel Mac

I bought a full version of Vista about two years ago. I removed it from the Intel Mac I had originally installed it on. Indeed, I've replaced the HD it was on, but for reasons other than removal of Vista.
I installed Vista successfully on a new Intel Mac, but it won't accept my Product Key.
I followed the instructions and tried the online activation. After entering a very long string of numbers, I received a curt, automated, "We do not recognize your registration number. Please call back at another time." The line then disconnected.
Various searches online have produced no result. The Microsoft help page has an article on registration, but all searches from it for my issue lead me back to that same page.
I assume that the fact that the OS was registered on the other machine has caused a problem, but I note that the license lets me install the OS on one machine. This, I am doing. As the OS was sickeningly expensive, I'd like to reinstall to get some use out of it.
    Any ideas?

That's sort of what I feared.
Considering that almost no one buys a "full license" to Windows other than factory installed on a machine or as an upgrade, I figured the problem I had would generally be unusual, except for people who installed it new on an Intel Mac, which is why I posted the question here.
I've not been able to find on Microsoft's help page a phone number to call Microsoft about this issue, and, as I said, all purported web-based solutions send me right back to the very same web page about product registration. If they weren't a monopoly, they wouldn't be able to get away with this.

  • Fscommand problem on Intel Mac

    Hello!
I am new to the forum and have a big problem.
I am trying to execute an application with fscommand on a
Intel Mac usin the latest standalone player (9.0.28)
    This is the code:
    fscommand("exec", "myapp.app");
myapp.app resides in a subfolder called "fscommand"
This does not work in the projector file created by the
9.0.28 player. It works in the flash 8 player under rosetta, but
then I lose to much performance. fscommand works fine on windows in
    all players.
Can anyone help me with this? Is it a bug, or is it due to a
undocumented change in the flash player?
My swf source file is in flash 8 format actionscript 2.0.
    Best Regards
    Rune

We found r28 was quite different under the hood from older 9
    players,
but I'm not sure what the work around is using a standard
    projector.
You can make this work with Mac version of mProjector it adds
    a
    executeApplication call.
    it is documented here
    http://www.screentime.com/software/mprojector/docs/index.html#mSystem
to use it you just install the mProjector mxp file add the
    call, export
your swf then convert it with the mProjector builder
    application

  • Installation problem on Intel - IV Machine

    Hi,
I am having Intel P-IV machine, with 845 motherboard, sdram, seagate hdd and tnt vga. when i am trying to install solaris 8 in my machine after proceding upto booting from disk (or) cdrom i have selected cdrom then, when i say 1. Interactive or 2. Jumpstart, after selecting Interactive Installation my system is rebooting automatically.
Can any one tell me the solution regarding this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mohammed Abid Ali

This case is similar to the case handled by Jurgen Keil on Digest Number 385 except that my case, it has a different error message.
At the prompt "Select type of installation" (or the prompt
"Select (b)oot or (i)nterpreter:", I type the command "b kadb -d". I see a General Protection Fault and some messages which cause the system to reboot. But I can't capture all the errors/messages cuz there's no system dump device configured.
How do I configured the system dump device so I can send you more details?
    Thank you.

Can you help me out here ???

In reply to Mar & May 2000:
Check the system and video boards against the Hardware Compatibility List at http://access1.sun.com
In reply to the 18 Sept 2000 post:
You need to boot the system to the Device Configurastion Assistant Floppy that should be included in you media kit. Solaris is not a program that installs under windows or any other OS. It is an OS in itself and in order to set up a system to run it and another OS you will need to dual boot the system. The documentation cdrom has several of the Install documents in html format, just be sure your existing OS supports long pathnames or you will have to use the "File -> Open" method of browsing.
    Hope it helps!

  • 802.1X wireless network problems with Intel Mac

To login to the wireless network at my school I have to use an 802.1X connection authenticating with TTLS, TLS, EAP-FAST and PEAP protocols.
This works intermitently. Some days my MacBook logs on quickly with no problems at all but most days it has a self assigned IP address and I can't use the internet. My friend also uses a MacBook, which acts in the same way. Some days she manages to get on, some days I can get on and some days we are both on together. The problem is really irritating!! We get no support from the techs as we are the only Mac people in the school. The rest of the staff have PCs. The techs are just trying to use this issue to justify why letting people lease Macs is a problem and stop other staff from leasing them in the future.
I did find a solution at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=425113&tstart=0
but this was written in 2006 and I wonderered if this was still valid.
    Can anyone help? please???

I am a tech at our school and we have the same problems. still trying to find a permanent solution!
If you turn airport off, then turn on again, (from system prefs > network) does it change from "self-assigned IP Address" to "Authenticated via PEAP)?
the macs are more and more popular at our school, so its becoming more and more of an issue.
    cheers,
    Harry

  • Adobe Air Installation problem on my Mac Book

Having trouble downloading Adobe Air to my Mac book (OS 10.7.5).
Irrespective of which browser I use, Safari, Firefox or Chrome after it initially appears to be downloading I get the same message
….."can't find the server at airdownload.adobe.com".
Tried removing all internet restrictions etc to no avail.
I see from other postings that there were issues installing Adobe Air in the past but none seemed to involve having trouble connecting to "air download.adobe.com"
I need Adobe Air to run Scratch 2.0.
    Any ideas please?

it says "check the developer to make sure i photo works with this version of mac os x"

  • Can't update acrobat 8 to 8.1, on Intel Mac

    I can't update acrobat 8 to 8.1, on Intel Mac. I says I need to reactivate plug-ins. Version 8 won't run Distiller.

    Hi Kristan,
I checked and fileVault has been off and I tried uninstalling. After reinstalling when I went to upgrade either it didn't do any good, gave me the message it couldn't upgrade because of some plug-in/ETC. or Acrobat was grayed out when I went to select it as the program location to upgrade.
I did find the blog, pasted below, but doing all this hasn't helped.
I will try again but I need to know, should I allow the autoupdaterer do the update or should I do it manually? Or any other suggestions you may be able to give me.
    Thank you

Distiller 8 problem with Intel Mac?
    Julie Gallagher - 09:54am Dec 3, 2007 Pacific
I just upgraded my desktop Mac in order to install CS3. I'm already running CS3 on a G4PB with no problems. Aside from the Intel/PPC difference, both computers have the same setups and files, both currently running OSX.4.11. (The new computer was set up by migrating setups from the old computer via firewire, then CS3 was installed.)
On the new computer, when I try to distill a file with Distiller 8, the file doesn't process (error message below). The same file processes OK with Distiller 7 on the new computer, also with Distiller 8 on the G4PB. The results are the same whether I'm using prebuilt or custom Distiller settings.

OK - solved it (on my Mac at least)...
Firstly, what I think the problem is is that the 8.1.2 update do not mention the word English - I got onto this clue when I studied the installer log for 8.0 Professional - it showed that distiller was only installed to 8.1 - I was baffled and examined the files at length, then went through this...
    1. Uninstall Adobe Acrobat Professional
    2. Go to the Adobe site and download Bridge Start Meeting 1.0.1 (I believe the uninstaller crashes components in this and if you install without in firstly installed - the installer will ask you for the disk containing it).
    3. Remember this is the install and fix for an APPLE MAC Intel mac...
    4. Install Acrobat Professional 8.0 from your original CS3 DVD
    5. Go to Adobe site and download Acrobat Professional Update 8.10 (file name should read AcroProUpd810_efgi.dmg, and I believe the efgi bit is English, French, German, Italian, and as it clearly mentions English I think I (and many like me) messed up by using the 8.1.2 update which doe NOT mention English and obviously does not update Distiller, in fact, I think and feel - it probably corrupts it...
I hope this helps those suffering like me (it took ages to work this one out), tied now - I need a beer....

Oops - sorry - the text from the 8.1.2 release...
"This multilingual update can be applied to Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish versions of Acrobat 8 Professional. For more information, see the technical document describing the Acrobat 8.1.2 update in the Support Knowledgebase."
No mention of English - only Multiple Languages...

Where did you see that text at? The 8.1.2 is for English as well as 14 other languages.
