Installation problems (Solaris 10 3/05 release, on x86 system)

Late last year, i recieved a Solaris 10 installation DVD case, containing the intallation DVDs for SPARC and x86 systems.
after finally getting another hard drive (the other was too full), i tried booting the computer off the x86 disc, to install.
it went to the light grey screen where it asks for installation mode, i chose default interactive installation (option 1).
this is where the problem starts. It appears that before beginning the interactive installer, it gathers information about the computer (such as USB ports, 100mb/s connection, etc)
I have read this process should only take a few seconds.
BUT, after 2 hours, it appears to have locked up after displaying "Skipping RTSL 0"
(it may not be rtsl, but something similar, and it was after detecting the 100mb/s connection)
My question is: how do i get it to work so i can install Solaris, without having to wait those 2 hours that should only be a few seconds?
thx to those who answer, thanx
(ps: i have had no previous experience with solaris)

  • Installation problem  Solaris 10 6/06 on Supermicro PDSMi mainboard

Have anyone success Solaris 10 x86 6/06 installation of Supermicro PDSMi mainboard?
I booted system on PXEBoot from network installation server. Kernel loads, but hangs after:
    SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_118855-14 32-bit
Copyright 1983-2005 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
I've also try disable ACPI, but no success.
    Have any ideas?
    Thanks!

Ok.. after more testing i found following:
    - When ACPI is disabled, system hangs forever. I run kernel debugger (kmdb) and set:
    moddebug /W0x800000000
    :c
    ... lot module debugging ...
    load 'fs/fifofs'
    (and hangs here).
    - When ACPI is enabled, system boots up and OpenWindows installer ask about install language. But now keyboard+mouse doesn't work anymore.

  • Installation problem with oracle 10g release 1 in RHEL ES 4 platform

    Hi,
I am facing such a problem. I want to install Oracle 10g release 1.
    I am using linux 86_64
os is RHEL ES 4 UPGRADE 5 X_86_64
When i put the command ./runInstaller It shows os is not supported.
Is there any way to install this oracle version.
Can u please suggest which version os is suitable for this.
    please suggest.
    Thanks & regards

WHICH 10gR1 software do you use? Oracle provides different versions, you need 10.1.0.3 for Linux x86-64 from the OTN download page.
By the way I would install 10gR2.

  • Installation Problem: Solaris 8 on a HP ProLiant DL360G3

When i try to install Solaris 8 02/02 on a ProLiant DL360G3 (3GHz, 2GB RAM, 18GB-SCSI) with a Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit-NIC 5703 , the following error message appears when Solaris is trying to boot for the first time from cd:

Maybe a driver problem?? I have tried all drivers i found (from HP or Broadcoms Website), but it doesnt solve the problem.

Hold down the STOP key and also press the A key to get the Sparc 20 to come to the ok prompt. At the ok prompt type boot cdrom
press enter and away you go. Solaris will 'at a later time' ask you if you want to format the drive.
One Note: Sometimes the Sparc can be a pain to get to the ok prompt. Watch your keyboard lights ie: Num lock, Caps lock etc. right after they get tested and flash, press stop and A. Sometimes you have to hold down the stop and press the A key by itself. Hope this helps.

  • Oracle10g Installation problem Solaris 10

I have tried to install Oracle 10G on Solaris 10 but it failed at Starting Database Control, So for fresh installation I have uninstalled Oracle and by mistake removed the oraInventory directory also.
Now when I run ./runInstaller getting the following error:
    ./runInstaller
You do not have sufficient permissions to access the inventory '/opt/oracle/app/oracle/oraInventory'. Installation cannot continue. Make sure that you have read/write permissions to the inventory directory and restart the installer.: Permission denied.
Please help me in resolving this.

    1. Do you have oraInst.loc file under /var/opt/oracle ? If you don't have other installation on the server, remove this file.
    2. make sure oracle user is owner of '/opt/oracle/app/oracle'

  • Installation Problem Solaris 10

    Hello,
I downloaded th ex86 iso image from sun and burned it to a dvd. Now I try to install Solaris on a VMware.
The virtual machine comes up and grub starts, but there is no start menu.
    Only the follwoing lines:
    GNU GRUB version 0.95 ...
[Minimal bash -like line editing is supported ..]
Any ideas what's going wrong or what do I have to do ?
    Thanks
    Uli

I had all kinds of hanging issues trying to get S10 8/07 to install in a VMWare VM (Fusion to be most specific). Ultimately, it was because there just wasn't enough RAM assigned to the VM, even though I had more than the minimum required assigned.
When I assigned 768MB to the VM, the install continued through without error.
    Good luck...

    Hi,
is it possible to use software compiled on Solaris 10 sparc on a x86 system?

That's what I expected, but if you look at:

    They say:

  • Solaris 8 on Intel STL2 server board - installation problem

    Hi,
I try to install Solaris 8 (4/01) on Intel STL2 server board (P III 866 MHz, SDRAM 512 ECC Reg, Adaptec AIC7899 Dual Channel-one Ultra160/LVD channel, Intel PRO/100+ Fast Ethernet Controller, ATI Rage* IIC SVGA) - without success.
It recognizes all devices but after I choose Solaris Interactive installation (from CD labeled Solaris 8 Software 1 of 2 Intel Platform Edition) it displays:
    Booting kernel/unix...
    SunOS Release 5.8 Version...
    then reboots after 2 seconds.
Since Intel STL2 board appears in the HCL for Solaris 8 I have struggled a while with the problem. I have not found neither post nor driver update information concerning this issue on the Solaris' related Web sites.
Finally, I found the very strange specification update info of STL2 board, published by Intel:
"13. Sun* Solaris* 8 installation issues
PROBLEM: Sun Solaris 8 cannot be installed on the STL2 server board with any BIOS version later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15. The system reboots during install and therefore the installation cannot be completed.
IMPLICATION: Installation of Sun Solaris 8 cannot be completed on an STL2 server board running any BIOS release later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15.
WORKAROUND: Sun Solaris* 8 will successfully install on the STL2 server board with BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15."
My BIOS release on the STL2 board is 1.7. It's too new to install Solaris 8 !?!
I am unable to get an old STL2 model with BIOS 1.1. Is there a way to update anything in the Solaris 8 in order to set it up on the new model of Intel STL2 server platform?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Matt

    The problem has been resolved.
I got the older BIOS 1.1 Build 15 for Intel STL2 from Intel Internet Support. After I installed BIOS 1.1 instead of BIOS 1.7 had no problem with installation of Solaris 8.

  • Installation problems with Solaris 8 on Intel

    Howdy,
I am having some problem with my installation of Solaris 8 on Intel. I am installing the system on a P133 (Asus TX97 motherboard). When I first start the installation and perform the system scan I get the following error:
The PnP ISA: IDE Controller programable device was unable to be programmed.
This could be caused by two possible reasons:
    - Lack of resouces available
    - There is a conflict with the following already-existing device: 8086,7111 - Bus Mastering IDE Controller
When I bring up the View/Edit device settings and I scroll to the IDE controller there is an ! mark beside the PCI IDE controller. The controler is specifying: Bus 0, device: 1, function: 1 port 1F0-1F7, 3F6, 170-177, 376, E000-E00F, 0 IRQ 14, 15
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this conflict? I tried removing the PCI IDE interface and then installing a ISA IDE interfact (for IRQ: 14, IRQ 15 automatically put a PnP IDE controller there). This seemed to resolve the conflict but then I received a: No Bootable devices have been found.
If anyone can help out with how to resolve the conflict, or what the No Bootable Devices have been found error it would be greatly appreciated.
Currently there is a partition set up with NT on it, but I wish to basically get rid of everything on the HD and install Solaris on it. FYI, when I check the HD's in NT it mentions I/0: 1F0-1F7 IRQ 14 and also I/O 170-177 IRQ 15.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
    Regards,
    S.

When I close down Solais in the CDE I am taken back to the logon screen
and I turn the PC off.Don't do that. If you simply turn off the PC, the OS has no chance to
write back cached / modified disk data back to the HDD - this is also the
reason why solaris has to check the filesystems on the next boot and apparently
    has to repair filesystem defects.
What you have to do is shutdown the machine, before you can power it off.
Login as user "root" and use the command
    init 5
    or
    halt
"init 5" will shutdown system services, by executing commands from
/etc/rc0.d/K* with argument "stop". Then it'll sync all modified disk blocks to
the HDD, kills all remaining processes and unmounts all filesystems. In this
state it's safe to power off the machine!
"halt" is a quick-and-dirty shutdown. It does not stop system services (the
/etc/rc0.d/K* commands are not run). But, it syncs all modified disk blocks
to the HDD, kills all processes and unmounts all filesystems. "init 5" is preferred,
especially if you have services like a database server running on the machine,
which needs to be cleanly shutdown. On the other hand, with a default solaris
installation and no extra services, a simple "halt" should be OK.
Btw. if multiple users are logged in on the machine, you should also have a look
at the shutdown(1M) command. "shutdown" sends warnings to the logged in
users that the machine is about to be shut down, ...

  • Solaris 8 installation problem on an Intel base PC

I'm quite new with Solaris. I got stuck in Solaris 8 installation just at almost the very beginning. After booting up the system from floppy and conituing pressing F2 and selecting booting from CD, I got an error message like:
    cannot mount on pci@0; 0/pci-ide@7; 1/ide01/sd@0; 0:a
    panic[cpu0]thread=FEC17440 vfs:mountroot
then, the system reboots itself again and again every time it reaches this point. I guess it's a problem with my CD-ROM. But the problem persists even if I change CD-ROM or move CD-ROM from secondary master to primary slave, etc. I also tried to change harddisk, but did no good to the problem. Is there any experienced users who could provide me with some solutions?
I'm using a system with: Pentium 133, 32 MB Ram, 4GB HDD, 3C905TX, ATI Rage II PCI, Matshita CR-587 CD-ROM, Serial mouse and so on. I also tried another system with: P III 450, Asus P3BF, 192MB Ram, Pioneer DVD-ROM, same HDD, and so on. The problem was still there with the latter system. However, I successfully installed Solaris 7 with the latter system before. Why can't it work with Solaris 8?
Thanks a lot for the help.

I've been having the exact same problems on a PowerEdge 500SC. I have managed to get Solaris up and running on the machine, however. I booted the DCA from the floppy disk and installed from the CD-ROM. When the DCA is ready to scan for devices I use the "Specific Scan" option to tell it to look for specific devices. I tell it to scan for all devices in the listing and in doing so the DCA finds ISA-based IDE controllers. After it provides a listing of the devices it found I use the "Device Tasks" option and the "View/Edit Devices" menu item then delete the Bus Mastering IDE controller device. Once the screen comes up to ask for a boot device, the drives will show up as on the ISA controllers.
I have to go through this process every time I boot the machine but I am able to make the system run at least.
I haven't figured out the ACPI problem, yet.

  • Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit)

First of all my windows is not genuine, but on my friend's desktop oracle download and installation  worked fine, he chose "create and configure database" options, and it works very well on his desktop, though his windows is also illegitimate. In my case, when I select "Create and configure database" option and pressed 'next",
(Go to my blog to see it with snapshots: Computer Science: Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit))
it asks to select class, I select "Desktop class" and pressed "next". The moment I pressed "next", the whole setup thing disappeared like it was never started. I searched for all possible reasons for why its not getting installed on my laptop, I used registry cleaner s/w,  deleted 25 GB of data to create free space if it were the problem, increased the virtual memory to increase the space for RAM, I did almost everything to get this setup working, but I found no success with the "Create and Configure database" option
    and
    then
I chose a "database software only" option and chose to store in a folder w/o spaces. This way, I got database s/w only and then later I found "Database configuration Assistant (DBCA)"  from windows START button and clicked to create and configure database manually. The steps are pretty much interactive and doesn't involve much brainstorming.
    The values I filled for
    1) Global Database Name :  orcl
    2) System Identifier : orcl
    3) I chose common password for both SYS and SYSTEM
    4) while on Enterprise Manager Configuration step, It asked me to create and configure listener in oracle home, so for that too, I typed "netca" in windows START menu and clicked it. There I added a listener.
    5) I chose a Storage area which was the Oracle-home itself i.e. where our installation files goes , in my case it is : C:\oracle_base\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oradata
    6) Then after few more nitty-gritty clicks, we are set to go !
Finally to write SQL code and to create your first TABLE , type "sqlplus" in windows "START" menu and click it when it appears. A command-prompt like window appears , which will ask you for username and password, so here they are :
    Username : sys/ as sysdba
Password : (its the one you created in step 3 stated above )
After this you are ready to write your first SQL command.

Is this your solution to your original post at Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit) ?
Pl be aware that you should not create any custom objects in SYS or SYSTEM schema - you should create any such objects in a separate custom schema.

This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris

for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

  • Installation problem with solaris 10

    Hi
While installing solaris 10 x86 I skipped the installation of solaris 2 of 3 CD . After than I installed solaris 3 of 3 CD. When the installation is completed I cannot find some important commands like vold & volume management commands.
Now how can I install solais 2 of 3 cd as the OS is not recognizing CDROM at all. Please suggest me a
    solution.
    Thanks

The easiest way is re-installing everything from the start, but be sure to back up all data before you do so. It should only take about an hour including configuration process.
Regardless, I'm also interested in knowing any supplemental method. Though, have you tried the method of installing additional applications of Java(TM) System yet? It's odd that you could skip the 2nd CD, but I assume you customized the package selection then?
