Installation procedure for WRT54GC does not detect router on Windows Vista.

Today I bought a used WRT54GC, supposed to be in working condition.  I ran the installation procedure on my Vista laptop, following the detailed steps to the letter, and all was going fine, until the detection routine.  All the router's lights were blinking, and others solid, as per the instructions, but a few seconds later I got a message stating that ".. Setup was not able to find a Compact Linksys Wireless router on the network....etc".
I immediately went to reset the unit, inserting a pin and waiting until the power light blinked several times (about 30 seconds).  This did not help.  I also reset the DSL modem, just in case, to no avail.
I have contacted the vendor, and he users that the unit was fine.
The Linksys support page has several user's forums references to how to 'connect' using Windows Vista, but all assume the unit has already been installed and working, which I found frustrating, since I cannot install it!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
gherna1

The trick is not to use the installation disk, but connect the PC/laptop directly to the router (wired), let it assign the dynamic IP address (default action), and then use the router's interface to set it up.  Its address is 192.168.1.1 (it may be different for other models or brands).
I was able to set it up this way and now I'm enjoying it.  Thanks to all who offered their advice.
Regards,
gherna1.

  • Image.getScaledInstance() does not always work under Windows Vista

    Hi:
I've run into some intermittent image scaling problems under Windows Vista (minus Aero effects) that I never experienced with the same program, same image(s), running same Java version under XP. The images I'm using are all JPEGs, and the problem appears to affect approx 1 out of 3 grayscale images (no color ones so far) w/o respect to size (ie: small ones can be problems while larger ones will work). Java -version shows 1.6.0_02-b06. I was wondering if anyone else out there has seen this, or can point out what I may be doing wrong. Sample code to duplicate follows.

That does indeed appear to be a bug. I looks like it's having problems with the alpha value in the color model, so a possible workaround would be to change the color model the image uses before scaling. This may entail creating a new BufferedImage and drawing the old image into it.

  • OFT for web : does not record in popup windows

    Hello (again)
    I have a question :
I tried openscript to test my application (oADF based) and although it was got popup windows, all is working fine and recording.
Now with OFT for web, popup windows are not working (in recording mode, in popup window, buttons are not working) and not recorded !
Is there something in OFT for web parameters that I should change to have same behavior than openscript ?
    thank you
    Michael.

    Hi,
OFT comes with an Embedded browser so while record all navigations must be with in that browser only. You can try OFT Demo application see if you have any external pop ups in there as far as I have seen that demo application does not have any pop ups. Any external windows will not be recorded in OFT as far as I know. You can use Open script to do recordings in the external window.
IE popups can be handled in OFT for example the the https web page intialization warning IE pop up can be handled.
    Thanks

  • ITunes does not start run on Windows Vista at all

I've been using iTunes on Windows Vista for about six months. A couple of weeks ago it stopped running: I run the program, see the animation-formerly-known-as-hourglass for a couple of seconds and then - nothing. I can see iTunes in the process list, but nothing happens nor can I shut it down (it does nothing when I try to shut it down).
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that does not help. The program did run on another user account, so this is probably related to my profile. I tried moving the two iTunes profile folders I saw listed somewhere (can't find them now), but that did not help.
Yesterday, I got a pop-up saying there's a version 7.5 available. I installed that, and much to my surprise it ran normally - once. After that one time it again refused to do anything more than what I wrote at the start.
So what gives? Should I throw my iPods into the nearest lake?
Any hints on how to solve this frustrating issue will be greatly appreciated.

I've tried everything I can now. I've uninstalled everything that has anything to do with iTunes, then reinstalled (as per the relevant article). I've even tried installing an older version, but no. Whenever I try to run iTunes, it shows up in the processes - and can't be terminated except by shutting the computer down - but does not open.
It still seems my only option is to throw my two iPods into the lake. This is infuriating.

  • Itunes does not work on my windows vista

When I tried to open my itunes, an error window popped up saying, "The folder Itunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default for this folder is inside the music folder" I have no idea what this means. Please help me because this problem started in the summer and I have been almost 7 months without my itunes and my ipod music collection is greatly suffering. and if you can't help me, then receiving numbers for either windows vista help or itunes help would be great.
oh yeah I have also removed and reinstalled itunes many times before so that doesn't work either.

Hmm, no sure I totally understand your issue. However, there should be a subfolder in your Music folder called iTunes. This subfolder should hold all of your music files. Does this folder exist on your computer? Are your music files in this (iTunes) folder, or, somewhere else? What happens when you click on one of your music files saved on your computer (If the file doesn't already say open with iTunes, choose iTunes. You can see this if you right click on the file.) Post more info and I'm sure this problem can be corrected.

It appears, that for some unknown reason i can not stream ,or upload any of my pictures(JPEG) to my Ipad3 from my Windows Vista2 PC,I was able to upload most of my music(although some were rejected by the Ipads system),I tried Itunes ,ICloud -automatic or manual to no avail.I even purchaised the Photoshop and placed my pictures there, then pointed to that file from ICloud ,still nothing, and the funny part is I am not even getting any error messages or codes,Icloud just freezes for about a minute, and after there is still nothing in my Ipad,I tried even sigle photos, thinking maybe I am going over 5G limit, but no,that was not an issue. At this point I am just frustrated-everything was working when I had ZUNE and uploaded and downloaded pics and music witout any problems...PLEASE HELP(((

Try working through TS1717: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues to start with.
Otherwise, for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Captivate 3 does not detect the micro

    Dear Users!
I have a lot of problems, using captivate 3 on my vista
installation. actually, the program does not detect the microphone.
i am using this micro in other applications without any problems. i
read this problem also exist in older versions of captivate. i am
using realtech audio hardware. i found a patch for captivate 2 that
does not work on captivate 3, but i found no pathch for captivate
    3.
    greetings from germany
    Rene Rose

    Hi Rene
It should be logical to assume that any patch that corrected
issues with version 2 would be automatically incorporated in
    Captivate 3.
To my knowledge, your situation is one I've not seen or heard
of in Captivate 3. So I suspect possibly a mix of hardware that we
    haven't seen before.
I would highly suggest you report this to Adobe as a
potential bug. Please provide them as much detail as you can. You
do this using the Wish Form.

  • My apple tv does not detect wireless router sitting next to it

I have my Apple TV sitting just few feet away from my router.  It does not detect my router.  So I added the IP addresses manually.  Under Apple TV Network settings, it still says Ethernet.  What can I do to get AppleTV to detect my Wireless rouer?

Did you unplug the ethernet from AppleTv not just the router? I've found even a non-terminated cable plugged in disables wifi.
Daft as it sounds, sometimes if the router is too close it can cause communication issues over wifi.
If ethernet was working, why change to wifi?
Can you confirm ethernet does still work and that AppleTV is not just 'stuck' in ethernet mode.
Unplugging was a good test as that often corrects issues.
It is possible your AppleTV software is somehow corrupted - restore via itunes using microUSB to eliminate that possibility, or that AppleTV hardware has failed and is 'stuck' thinking ethernet is connected.

    any help?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Did you solve this issue?
Could you install the Windows 8.1 system on this SSD drive?
I think the additional driver installation while setup procedure isnt necessary since Win 8.1 should already contain the essential drivers.
From my point of few there could be an compatibility issue (maybe SSD firmware update would solve this).
How about the usage of other SSD drives? Do you have the same problem using other SSD drives from other manufactures?
    Feedback would be appreciated.

  • Can't install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HDD

    Hello,
My HDD has died, so i decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660-1D9 to an SSD.
I made a bootable USB with Win8, and booted just fine.
The problem is that it does not detect my SSD so i can proceed with the install.
SSD shows up in BIOS, but not in Windows install.
It says there's a driver missing.
I downloaded AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even then, after selecting the only driver that appears, it says no new devices found.
I tried changing SATA mode from AHCI to Compatibility mode and it's the same..
    What can i do?
    Thanks for the help.
    Best regards,
    Bruno Moreira

Older Windows XP required an AHCI driver from Intel but I think this isnt a missing SATA driver issue because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers in order to recognize the HDD or SSD drive.
Furthermore the OS installation should be possible even if the driver would not be added... for this procedure you have to use the "compatibility mode".
As you said, the compatibility mode did not work too, so I think there is another problem.
However, Toshiba driver page provides also an Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver (Windows 8 - Upgrade) which you could try to add while OS installation.
But Im wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Did you try to format the SSD drive using another computer and then to install Win 8?
    Try it out.

  • Arch does not detect /dev/sdb

Like the title says, Arch does not detect a second SATA hard drive I have installed on my computer.

I had the drive connected to a eSATA port, but I pluged it to a ordinary SATA port, and the result is the same.
    The configuration on the BIOS:
    ATA/IDE Mode -> Native
    Configure Storage as -> IDE
It doesn't show more valuable information except for the location of any drive on any SATA port.

  • Solution who encounter 'Setup does not detect Sound Blaster .....' error msg during installat

For those who encounter 'Setup does not detect sound blaster audio in the system' error upon installing from the installation CD. You can try the steps below that work for me. It seems Windows have lock on to the sound card with an incorrect ID thus the installation CD are not able to correctly identify the card. Be sure to do a backup copy of the registry first incase something goes wrong since we are editing the registry.
. Go to Start-Run and type in 'regedit' to start the registry editor application.
    2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI.
    3. You should see listing with 'VEN....'. Expand them by clicking on the + icon and then see if it's listed as unknown or Creative related stuff. Keep note of them.
    4. Right click on those 'VEN......' listing that you have noted earlier and select full permission. Ensure that full control are selected. Now delete all those listed as unknown or Creative related stuff.
    5. Exit registry editor and reboot. Try using the installation CD again.
    Hope it hel

  • WVC210 Device manger does not detect camera driver

Hi, Iam doing a java application project which captures a vedio from linksys wvc210 network camera, the problem is the device manager does not detect the camera as one of the imaging devices or as any, and so the jmf registry editor does not also detect the camera in which i am stuck on how to make java detect it and work on it which is impossible without being detected with the jmf registry so i need windows first to detect it at the device manager which will lead jmf registry editor to also detect it.
note that: the camera installation worked properly and i can access it normally. by the way iam using windows vista.
    any help please...

First of all, thanks for ur reply, i will state the problem again: iam doing a java api application using the java media framework (JMF), the application goal is to capture a vedio from the ip camera, the application is done and works with my web cam which is detected by the java capture device manager, on the other hand the capture device manager does not detect the ip camera as one of the captured device in which i can't run my application on it. So the easiet way is to make windows detect it as one of the devices at the device manager so java capture device manager can detect it and my application will work immediatly. any suggestions ?

  • Wi-Fi does not detect on Satellite L40-139

    Hello!
I have a problem with Wi-Fi connection on Toshiba L40-139 under Windows XP Professional
I have all drivers for this model from this site.
Also Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG: 9.0.4.39 adapter was installed.
But during the installation there was an error "Couldn't install driver".
Wi-fi card does not detect by device manager
When I try connect to Wi-Fi network I have a message that there isn't any Wi-Fi devices on my notebook.
    Help, please!

    Hi
As Im not mistaken the L40-139 PSL40E supports the Atheros 802.11g WLan card.
And therefore you should use and install the Atheros Wlan card driver!!!
Additionally you should perform a BIOS update.
According to some postings here in the forum, the BIOS update helps to solve some WLan issues.
Check it out & good luck
    Bye
