Installation quietly dies

I'm trying to install J2SDK 1.4.2_04 but the installation quietly dies in between. It gets to the point where it asks you to agree to the EULA and then dies without any message. I've tried installing the JRE and earlier versions with identical results. I do have a couple of previous versions of the SDK already previously installed but need the latest version. I'm unable to reinstall even a version that I already have installed. I could uninstall all previous versions first but don't want to risk losing java altogether if that doesn't work unless someone here thinks it has a good chance of working.
Help.

I don't have Antivirus software.
I ran the setup while tracking all changes it was making using a utility called InCtrl5. I can't see anything interesting in the results:

  • NALVIEW.EXE quietly dies immediately after applying MS KB2286198 (LNK-Flaw)

    Hi.
    ZDM7.0.1_HP4, WinXP-SP3, KB2286198 (MS10-046)
Some users recognized, that the Application Explorer doesn't show up any more.
When starting NALVIEW.EXE manually, I can see, that it flickers for 1/4 second or so
in the systray, than it dies quietly.
When backrev'ing to an imaging state before applying that MS patch, it's working
    fine.
Just applying that patch[1] immediatly breaks the startup of NALVIEW.EXE.
This is fact for the majority of the PCs on this site, those affected are HP6005 PCs
    with the same installation (ZEN-Image).
    Anybody else facing this trouble?
    Regards, Rudi.
    [1] WindowsXP-KB2286198-x86-DEU.exe

    Hi.
Uninstalling KB2286198 does *NOT* turn NALVIEW.EXE to be working again.
Checked the ZEN image (without that patch) again: It's working fine.
    It's so nice... !
I'll go on checking the day after tomorrow. (offsite tomorrow)
    Regards, Rudi.

  • Oracle 10g Express installation fails

    All,
I've been looking in the forum for a solution to my problem but I can't find one. I'm a complete novice when it comes to databases
    I have a sevrer with windows 2003 sp2, 2 drives 40B+ free space and 2GB ram
No applications are running on this server
I had a previous version of 10g express edition installed on this same server, which I deleted using oracle uninstall doc and windows clean up utlity.
When trying to install Oracle 10g express edition I get past the install location, DB passoword and ports for function. during the 'copying files' part of the installation the installation just dies/exits.
the user account I'm using is local administator (not domain) on the server.
    I've stopped all antivirus services.
The only error in event viewer show the following error
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( IDriverT ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service stopped.
the install log shows the follow (last few lines of importance).

I running out of ideas. Can anyone help or shed some light as to what is happening. It can't be storage space or memory as there is nothing running on this box.
    Thanks in adavnce

You might have better luck on the Oracle Express Forum, which is the only support location for the product.
Otherwise check the registry entries to make sure there is nothing that might interfere.

  • X64 Oracle 11g R2 Install On i7 3770 Windows 7 x64 Enterprise System Fails

x64 Oracle 11gR2 installation on my new Windows 7 x64 Enterprise system fails after the "Desktop/Server Class" screen. I click Next, and then nothing happens. The install app closes and no installation logs are available. I checked the Windows logs and there is nothing obvious.
My new system has an Intel i7 3770 cpu with 32GB of ram. My old system had twin Intel Xeon EM64T cpus with 3GB of ram. Both systems ran Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. x64 Oracle 11gR2 installed and ran fine on the old system, but the old system started making "funny" noises and had to be replaced.
This is my personal system, not a commercial installation. I got Win 7 x64 Enterprise from my community college, which is a Microsoft Partner. I need Oracle for my relational database classes.
    The story so far:
    1. I downloaded win64_11gR2_database_1of2 and win64_11gR2_database_2of2 and unpacked both of them into a folder named win64_11gR2_database_install, replacing as necessary.
    2. I set up a loopback adapter and added the following entry to c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts:
10.10.10.10 localhost PaulK-PC # Loopback Adapter for Oracle 11gR2 Install
    3. After creating the loopback adapter, I restarted my PC. I can ping the adapter with no problems.
    4. I ran c:\Users\PaulK\Downloads\Oracle\win64_11gR2_database_install\database\setup.exe as Administrator.
    5. I skipped email notification, since I don't have a support agreement.
    6. I select "Create and configure a database".
    7. Whether I select Desktop Class or Server Class, when I click Next, the installation app dies.
Page 2-2 of Oracle Database Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Windows E24186-01 states that an x64 installation of Oracle requires an AMD64 or EM64T cpu. Does this mean I need to install the x86 version of Oracle 11gR2, or is there some other problem?
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Aperture fades away after trying to Export Web Pages...

    Running Aperture 3.3.2 under 10.7.4.
I can't give too much detail regarding this issue because it's a very subtle, quiet issue. When I select a set of photos and try to Export Web Pages..., the app quietly "dies," for the lack of a better term.
The UI becomes unresponsive. There is no model dialog box (although my instinct tells me that it's behaving as if there is--I've had issues with other apps in Lion, where a modal will live on a different desktop when the app is in Full Screen mode).
That's all I can say, really. Sorry. When I press Cmd+Opt+Esc, the app appears functional because "The app is not respoding" does not appear next to the app name in the resulting dialog.
When I Cmd+Tab to the Aperture icon, the menu does not display in the Menu Bar. However, if I click on the Aperture icon in the Dock, the menu does display, although no UI elements in the app window are responsive.
Like I said, it's a strange, slow-motion crash. This happens only when I try to export web pages. It seems Apple is being lazy deprecating MobileMe references to its apps as I still see MobileMe referenced in a lot of dialog boxes and in the help system. Maybe it's trying to export web pages to the non-existent MobileMe universe, causing a crash due to a communications error?

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Unable to Install WL6.0 on NT4SP5 server

I am attempting to install Weblogic Server 6.0 on an NT 4 SP 5 server. 96MB RAM, 2G free disk space, Pentium II processor. After doubleclicking on the weblogic600_win.exe file, the installer extracts files to c:\temp\ixxxxxxx folder. Then the installer just goes away. Nothing happens. I can install wl6 on every other server I have access to without problems. I've disabled ALL services on the box and disabled virus protection, but I'm running out of ideas. I am an administrator on the server, and I've even tried logging on locally, not on the domain to do the install and it's the same. The extraction completes then the installer just dies. Any ideas??

    Michael,
You've got to be kidding?!?! I have to uninstall all versions of the VM?
Even though I think its crazy, I removed 1.2.2, 1.3 and 1.3 RT I still get the
    same problem.
    Please help
I'm running Win 2000 with the latest service packs installed (pre sp2).

  • CS3 EPS files placed in Quark don't print????

    Hello -
Been fighting some issues on CS3 over the last few months. It seems that I have a problem with placing EPS files from CS3 into Quark and successfully getting a printout. My Specs:
    Mac 10.5.6, G4, 1GB RAM, Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2), Quark 7.5, HP Color Laserjet 4500.
Now, if I go to print a document with "Tiled" output from Quark, I can only have 1 CS3 EPS placed in the file, anything over 1 results in a Tile for the first page, but no second "Tile" when I should get two.
If I step and repeat a picture box with the same EPS 2 or more times, and it fits on one page, I get no output (the job spins up on the printer then quietly dies).
Now before you jump on Quark, I will say that AI CS2 files do NOT exhibit this behavior, it ONLY seems to apply to AI CS3 files.
If I use PDF over EPS, there is no problem. But I have years of legacy document that I do NOT want to have to create PDF's of my EPS files.
Anyone got some insight on this? Thanks!

    >But I have years of legacy document
If these art not CS 3 files then you are ok correct?
The only problem you say is with CS3 is that correct?
Save them back to CS2 as a copy, or upgrade to cS 4 perhaps but I do not know if that would fix the problem. The other thing I can think of that might be an issue is that at one time Quark needed to have Illustrator CS 3 EPS file saved with a tiff preview. Perhaps the type of preview is the cause of this problem.
Try changing the preview in the EPS Options.
Those are my thoughts on this I hope something in it will be helpful.

    disapear
i tried to search in the forums but all problems there after
    this step

Here is another solution if the first one doesnt work.
"This solution posted by gorodek on the Adobe forums helped
    me out with the
problem where the installer just dies with no error message
    or warning.
    1. Start the Setup as usual and let it copy over a few files
    and than -
after a short popup - let him disappear. There shouldn't be
    any other errors
except the described above, otherwise you have to deal with
    these first (eg.
run the cleanup script, if the setup complains about an
    already running
    installation etc).
    2. Now open up your Windows Explorer and go to
    C:\Program Files\Common
    Files\Adobe\Installers\c14ac4070fd9614ffe63f4bb533db2c\resources\common\scripts
    3. Locate a file called "ContainerProxy.js" in the opened
    Window and open it
    with Notepad.
    4. Go to line 1102 or simply search for
    "jsonObj =
    _jsonToObject(window.external.SetSessionInitialized(initValue));"
    and replace this line with
    "jsonObj = _jsonToObject(SetSessionInitialized(initValue));"
    5. Save the file.
    6. Startup up the installation process by launching Setup.exe
    from this
    path:
    C:\Program Files\Common
    Files\Adobe\Installers\c14ac4070fd9614ffe63f4bb533db2c\Setup.exe
This time the installer shouldn't quit and hopefully you will
    be able to
    install.
The random hex-number differs on each system I found out. Now
    Setup runs.
Let's hope I don't run into any other problems.
Make sure the syntax is exact when you make the java script
    code
    modification.
    "jsonObj = _jsonToObject(SetSessionInitialized(initValue));"
Make sure there's a space before and after the "=".

  • Translation table syntax error

While trying to install oracle 815se on
Red Hat 6.1, the ./runInst.sh script
    barfs copiously like this:
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfCancel
Warning: ... found while parsing ':<Key>osfCancel: ManagerParentCancel()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfSelect
Warning: ... found while parsing ':<Key>osfSelect: ManagerGadgetSelect()'
    SIGSEGV 11* segmentation violation
    stackbase=0xbffff600, stackpointer=0xbffff228
and then the installer just dies - I never even get to see a window: Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? It seems
vaguely AWT related, but I'm far from an expert on java...

Well, I finally figured it out:
the 815 installer needs files from the Xfree86 rpm to be installed, otherwise it falls over, so even on a headless server, you have to install X. [and not just the clients]
The actual command I had to issue was:
    rpm --force -i XFree86-3.3.5-3.i386.rpm
Because rpm was complaining about locale.alias clashing with files from the glibc-2.1 package.

I've been looking in the forum for a solution to my problem but I can't find one. I'm a complete novice when it comes to databases

Any can help me. Thanks in advance

    Hi ,
If you are facing issue during silent mode install , you can do installation in below manner also ,
Make a tar ball of installation directory from some other server.
e.g. If you have installed OMA in server A in /agent/OMA directory then make a tar ball OMS.tar.
scp the tar file on server B and then extract it.
After extraction , you only need to make changes in $AGENT_HOME/sysman/config/emd.properties file.
Just replace server A with Server B in this file and do the agent discovery again using
    You can use <AGENT_HOME>/bin/agentca -d
to rediscover the targets for this agent

  • [nForce] k7n2 problem, maybe easy fix...

Hey, I read through a lot of the previous posts and guides and can't find anything about this really. I have the k7n2-l  I think. It's a k7n2 for sure. Anyway, I did a fresh install of XP and it didn't do the onboard sound or LAN. Also, the smbus and ide drivers weren't installed. So I just went to nvdia and got the newest ones. Well... this made the computer lock up whenever it got to the desktop, usually halfway through the startup sound. So I got a NIC installed that I just had laying around, and now I have internet. I installed each thing individually, and then got the realtek audio working. Everything's fine now. All is installed. HOWEVER.... I can run fine for hours, my temp. is fine, I completely cleaned and re-greased my chip heatsink/fan, my ram is good, and I have a 450w p/s and new videocard. So that's all good. My problem is that when I try to install any kind of big thing ( games, photoshop, etc. ) it locks up completely. No screens of death, just frozen. I can install basic stuff like winamp, diskeeper, but nothing bigger than that. It gets halfway through the installation and dies. And I can RUN anything that does install. I don't get it. It seems like heat, but the temp. is always fine before and afer lockups. Any suggestions?
Oh, and I have a amd 1.4 ghz athlon I believe. Crucial ram, xfx 6600gt, seagate 160gb.

    nVidia Drivers
after you install Windows, the first thing you need to install is the Nforce Unified Drivers - this will install everything that is onboard: chipset, sound, LAN etc. you can optionally choose not to install the Nvidia IDE SW drivers (i personally have never had any probs with them)
once installed, restart your PC, and you may continue to install any other hardware you have, starting with the Forceware display drivers (also from above link) for your 6600gt
if you continue to encounter problems, you may have a PSU problem, or your memory might be liked by the nforce memory controller. Memtest86 will find any probs

I am attempting to install Weblogic Server 6.0 on an NT 4 SP 5 server.96MB RAM, 2G free disk space, Pentium II processor. After doubleclicking on
the weblogic600_win.exe file, the installer extracts files to
c:\temp\ixxxxxxx folder. Then the installer just goes away. Nothing
happens. I can install wl6 on every other server I have access to without
problems. I've disabled ALL services on the box and disabled virus
protection, but I'm running out of ideas. I am an administrator on the
server, and I've even tried logging on locally, not on the domain to do the

    dies. Any ideas??

  • Need Flash Player Pop-up Message Suppressed in Quiet Installer

    Hello Flash Player Installer Gurus,
Thank you in advance for your help.
I am launching the Adobe Flash Player 10 installer from another installer and I am running the Adobe Flash Player 10 installer in quiet mode.  However, even though I am running it in quiet mode, the installer pops-up the following:
"The version of Adobe Flash Player Activex that you are trying to install is not the most current version.  Please visit http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer to obtain the latest, most secure version. | OK"
You can get this message to show up by, say, installing Flash Player 10.1, uninstalling Flash Player 10.1 and then attempting to install Flash Player 10.0.
I understand why I am getting this error message, but I'm trying to prevent this and any other error messages being shown in quiet mode.  When an installer runs in quiet mode it shouldn't do stuff like this.  I need a truly quiet Adobe Flash Player Installer.  The fact that Adobe's Flash Player installer is not quiet is a big problem for us because the user needs to acknowledge this pop-up and we want to run our installer in unattended mode.
The command line we are using is as follows:
    msiexec /i "install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi" /qn
This correctly runs the installer in quiet mode (except for the previously mentioned pop-up message I am getting).
Does anybody know how to run the Adobe Flash Player 10 installer in truly quiet mode so that the pop-up message described above does not show?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dencolp

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for writing to us with your issue mentioned fully. A similar query like your's had been answered recently in this same Flash Player forum - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5144102.
May I suggest you to please read and follow the suggestions mentioned in the above link. Hope the solution works. Else do write back with your issues.

“The installation process has encountered an error while installation Shared Technologies”

    Hi Henningskytte,
The error indicates that one or more of the following Shared Technologies failed to install:
    Adobe Player for Embedding
    Adobe Help
    Camera Raw plug-in
    Camera Raw profiles
    Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit
    Adobe XMP Panels
    Microsoft Visual Studio runtimes
To resolve these issues, use the Adobe Support Advisor (ASA) to analyze the installation log file. For instructions, see Analyze install logs with Adobe Support Advisor (ASA).
Note: If you are using a downloaded installer, or running the installation from the hard drive, the Shared Technologies can fail because of the installation path. Copy the installation files to a folder to the root of the drive, such as C:\PSE<versionnumber>Installer\, and rerun the installation.
