Installation solaris 9x86 4/04 in Toshiba laptop

I have experience in solaris/sparc, but I'm newbie in x86.
Recently I download the solaris 9 4/04 for x86.
I would like to know if someone of you have installed solaris 9x86 (or 8x86) in a Toshiba 1800-S253 laptop or
in a similar model.
My laptop has the next configuration: trident cyberblade ai1 agp; intel 8255x-based ethernet pci;
toshiba dvd-rom sd-c2502; ali m5229 pci bus master ide; ali audio accelerator; 10gb d.d; 248 ram.
In the 50% of the hard drive I have installed windowsME, and the rest of space is free.
Thanks for your commentaries.

  • Solaris installation on toshiba laptop along with windows

i installed solaris 10 on my toshiba laptop, having windows. The solaris get installed but i am able to use only through commands.the gui is not showing.while installation also the gui is not showing but when installed in virtual bow gui is showing at the time of  installation and after installation i am able to use the gui of solaris 10 and works fine.dont know what is the reason while installing on laptop directly

The reason is simple why it's work on VirtualBox. In VBox, this software emulates a generic graphical chipset. In one phrase, we have the same chipset for each machine type.
Look if Solaris 10 can run with VESA driver and when not you can still share the chipset reference that you have and I can try to see if this is supported or not.

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • I am trying to download icloud control panel via icloudsetup.exe to windows Toshiba laptop and get a message" \icloudsetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application. Can anyone help? I am new to Apple stuff.

Need help for icloud photo stream, have activated ps on iphone 4 and set up icloud back up for email, contacts, iwork, and find my ihone. Need to find photos that we thought were being saved/shared as well but evidently not. Found on another search that I may need the icloud control panel so tried to download it but when try to install i get, C:\Users\Downloads\icloudsetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I am using a Toshiba laptop with windows 7, which the system requirements are met. I am new to Apple stuff, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

It suggests the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Persistent blue screen of death problems on Toshiba laptop pc; need help

    hey, guys,
I was hoping you could help me out here.  I have been experiencing persistent blue screen of death problems on my Toshiba laptop since December 21 of 2014.  The first two times I started having theses persistent issues, I downloaded a bunch of redundant programs and games onto my computer, some of which were virus infected.  I had these programs on my computer for a while before my laptop was taken in for repairs.  I eventually uninstalled some unnecesssary programs from my pc, hoping it would have fixed these issues, even tried windows update.  I didn't have a clue that my problems were due to virus infections/malware until the two most recent times my computer was taken in for repairs; I had always been thinking it was a defective driver.  My laptop has already been in for repairs at least twice due to these perpetual BSOD problems; I had Norton Internet Security installed on my pc before the Geek Squad team (who repaired my computer and found 312 traces of malware in my system during the virus test; I was told by them that I had mistakenly downloaded infected web browsers onto my pc) switched me to Webroot SecureAnywhere (they said it was better at detecting viruses/malware than my NIS), but even after my pc has been through repairs twice in a row, I am still experiencing blue screens (this only seems to have happened once each week, and on one occasion, I went through almost two weeks without it occurring).  I am pretty sure, that I haven't downloaded anything onto my computer infected with viruses/malware (each of the scans done by my Webroot antivirus have found nothing), I have only a few games/apps installed on my pc, and what I downloaded all came from Microsoft's official website.  I can't afford to be wasting any more money on repairs, and I am desperately searching for any possible way to fix this myself.  Any help would be appreciated.  I have a copy of two of the memory dumps from my most recent crashes (I also have the dump reports from my most recent crashes dating back to March 6; I got these from an app from NirSort called Blue Screen View, if you need those)  I also have my system specs:
    http://1drv.ms/1I6AsaE
    http://1drv.ms/1Qdsb7T
Note that many of these earler dump reports (the ones from March) came from viruses.  The ones from most recently as last month, I am not sure about.

Thrashing about this way gets us nowhere.
Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents.
Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery tab > Recovery tab > Remove everything and reinstall Windows
Use the freshly restored machine for a day or so before any installations of hardware, software, or updates of any kind. If you get no crashes, the problem is not likely due to hardware.
Then add updates and other things slowly, keeping track of them. If you get crashes after that, give us the corresponding dmp files.

  • I am trying to download latest Apple Itunes update to my Toshiba laptop and got the following system error message:  APSDaemon.exe

While trying to download the latest Apple Itunes update to my Toshiba laptop I got the following
    message: APSDaemon.exe system error.
I uninstalled Itunes and tried again, but got the same message.
    Help, please

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I have set up iTunes Match on only 3 devices (my Windows 7 desktop and 2 iPhones) and am now trying to authorise my new Windows 8 (Toshiba) laptop but I keep failing to authorise the laptop using my one-and-only Apple ID. Does anyone have advice to solve this problem?!

Hi all.  I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues.  Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem.  …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive.  Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab.  Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
    Open the Users folder.
    Open your user folder
    Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
    Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco.  The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”.  Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear.  Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?
    Good luck…

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.

  • Solaris 8 and PCMCIA on Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT

I am having problems with my pcmcia services with X86 on my Toshiba Tecra 520 CDT laptop. It will not recognize the network card(s) or any PCMCIA cards for that matter. Do I need to load a specific driver or turn on the PCMCIA service or something to that affect for the PCMCIA slot to work? I have heard that the Toshiba laptop is the most supported laptop model for X86. Could anyone give me some advice or point me to the right website or news group. Please reply or contact me directly at [email protected] Much appreciation!

I believe that PCMCIA is broken in Solaris 8.
I can't seem to get networking to work on my Dell either.

If you can locate a Windows XP installation CD (and a valid product key for activation), you can install it yourself and then add all the drivers and utilities here.
Otherwise, you're better off ordering recovery discs from a third-party. That will include preinstalled drivers and utilities, and Windows will be already activated.

  • Cloning Toshiba Laptops with sysprep

    Hi,
We have many different makes and models of laptops and have a sysprep image which we use for all of them and up till now have had no issues other that having to put drivers in after the laptop has been imaged.
That is until we started purchasing Toshiba laptops!!
After we have imaged the laptop it blue screens with either
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Stop: 0x00000050 (0xF0000223, 0x00000000, 0x806BAF76, 0x00000002)
    or a
    Stop 0x0000007B
Even after repairing the image it blue screens.
Thus far we have had to build a new image for every model of Toshiba laptop and then image.
Any ideas on how I can get my sysprep image to work?

    @crystalreef
What do you wrap the sysprep image in? wim file? ghost file? clonezilla image?
I have had 100% success with sysprep by using wim file method. First I prepare the image with newprep method and capture the image with imagex. When we deploy the image we use either bartPE or winPE 3.1 image from PE boot which uses imagex to install wim file from samba share. In the same PE session it then injects the hdc drivers using fix_hdc.cmd script from that samba share. This is responsible for fixing the 7B errors. Additionally there is a program which I wrote in autoit which detects the model of the machine and pulls the appropriate drivers off the network and puts them in c:\drivers. There is then another routine in mini setup to inject lan drivers and on intial boot another script which goes and installs the drivers from the c:\drivers etc..
Anyway what sysprep method do you use? If you can I recommend to use the newprep method as it does not involve adding any mass storage driver entries to sysprep.inf and is very clean sysprep method. From then I am sure you will never have problems syspreping Toshiba laptops.
