Installation Solaris8 on x86 platform

I am trying to instal Solaris8 on intel machine. After opting installation method interective, it says loading kernel and then does nothing and goes back to beginning and start installing again. I tried several times but does not go beyond this.
Please help me. I downloaded configuration assistant on line.
Thanks

I hope you don't try to install an old release of Solaris 8 x86 on a system with a pentium 4 cpu. There's a known
problem with a Solaris 8 kernel panic on Pentium 4 cpus.
Use the latest Solaris 8 release, or use Solaris 9 x86.

  • Installation of Solaris 8 (x86 Platform Edition

    Hi guys,
I have downloaded the Solaris 8 for intel version and burnt them into CDs. (3 CDs). I tried to download the Solaris (x86 Platform Edition) Device Configuration Assistant Boot Diskette, but instead of downloading, it opens in another Internet explorer window. I tried pressing shift while downloading, that doesn't work. And also I tried to boot using the Solaris installation CD for installing, it says cannot boot from CDROM. Please help me. How can I proceed with installation?
    With regards,
    Amin

Well I had undergone the same problem, what I did was then use Netscape Enterprise Browser, and there is worked just fine, and was able to save the file onto my pc, without it being opening in an another window, so if possible use Netscape Browser and try and see what happens. Hope this helps you.

solaris11 for x86 (in vmware)do with the resumption of tests.
use sap  With a version that sunos_64 for sparc,Feasible?
    No.
SunOS SPARC is a BigEndian platform whereas SunOS on X64 is LittleEndian, you won´t be able to restore the backup there.
See note 552464 - What is Big Endian / Little Endian? What Endian do I have?
On top of that, there´s no database installation for Solaris x64 for 6.40 versions.

  • OCS 10.1.2 on Solaris 10 x86 Platform

Can any one tell me whether OCS 10.1.2 supports Solaris 10 x86 Platform?
    On the download page it says;
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 1 (10.1.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 32-bit)
But we all know SPARC is 64-bit. Can someone clarify this.
    Thanks!
    Ravin

    Hi,
Yes - that's a little confusing; Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is certified on a 64b Solaris SPARC. (The story behind the 32b is a long one, but it's related to client libraries vs. database servers and how 32b/64b liibraries are distinguished).
To answer your real question, though, No - it's not supported on Solaris x86.

Obviously it is not a problem of space in the directory/tmp.

Someone has some idea of like solving this bug or problem?

Error is on small caps but it is straight forward:
".. error: invalid compressed data to inflate ..."
Your oracle media is corrupt. Redownload it and verify the downloaded zip file.

  • Homogeneous Copy Between x86 platform and x64 platform

    Dear All,
we have doing a migration from and BW older system with x86 32 bits and W2000server/SQL2000server with BW 3.1C, so the target system is an AMD machine x64 64 bits wih Operating system 2003server/SQL2000server and BW 3.1C.
we have been talking with SAP OSS support and the conclusion is that this configuration is not supported for SAP for BW 3.1c SQL2000 and W2003server with x64.
Nevertheless we need to do this migration because after the migration we have to do an upgrade to BI 70/SQL2005 and W2003 in this machine
The problem here is the SAPinst for BW 3.1c is for x86-32bits and not for x64-64bits, so do you know some way of do that, I mean if we can use some sapinst diferent for do the installations, or if someone already did this migration before???
Best Regards and thanks very much

    Ernest,
I think you are stuck in terms of your current strategy. SAP does not have a 64 bit kernel for BW 3.1 on an NT platform. What you'll most likely need to do is to upgrade the SAP system to a release that has a 64 bit NT kernel - BI 7.0 on the WAS700 kernel. The problem you'll run into here is that you'd be attempting to get a BW 3.1 system onto a 64 bit OS and only have a 32 bit kernel for the SAP system - this will lead to myriad of technical issues that you do not want to contend with I'm sure.
Otherwise, you'll run into the issue of not having the proper kernel components to make the jump. While sometimes it is necessary to move briefly to an unsupported platform combination to get to the OS/DB platform you need, you have to make sure that there are technical tools from SAP available first.
You may need to rethink the strategy here and make sure that for each jump, you'll have the tools needed.
Please let me know how this works out for you - I'm sure that in the near future, many of us will also need to contend with such an situation.
    Cheers,
    Tim

  • Audit Vault Installation problem on windows platform

    Hello!
I'm trying to install Audit Vault 10.2.2 on windows platform. The installation procedure is successfull (there are no alerts about errors during installation). The enterprise manager is working at http://localhost:1158/em without any problem.
The installation guide says that audit vault console should work at http://localhost:5700/av, but this site is unreachable.
I tried to find out the problem, so I started avctl show_av_status
    The result is:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Exception: Invalid Oracle JDBC url
    at oracle.av.avca.Commandarguments.setOracleProperties (Commandarguments.java:281)
    at oracle.av.avca.Commandarguments.processArguments(CommandArguments.java:667)
    at oracle.av.avca.Avctl.startCTL(Avctl.java:70)
    at oracle.av.avca.Avctl.main(Avctl.java:318)
(avctl start_av results the same problem)
Could you help me to solve this problem? Please!

I'd like to help you but it seems to me, from the perspective of the purpose of Audit Vault, that putting a secure repository on top of an insecure operating system is a non sequitur.
Thus all of my installs have been on Oracle Enterprise Linux and I've never seen any installation-related issues such as you are reporting.
If you can I would suggest getting, as they say, "a real operating system."
Performance will improve, hardware utilization will improve, security will improve, and as an additional advantage, this issue will disappear.

  • Installing Solaris 9 on an x86 platform with win98 and win2K

    Hi,
There is a Pentium P4 (2.4 GHz) machine with a 40 GB hard disk...
This has 1 primary partition and the remaining is the extended dos partition. In effect there are the following logical drives - C, D, E and F. These are FAT32 partitions and have WIN98 and WIN2K (server) installed on them.
There is a free space of abt 8 GB remaining on which i am trying to install Solaris 9 (via CD). But am just not able to do so.
During the process, i get to the step saying that my disk is to be partitioned and that i could either choose the DEFAULT LAYOUT or manually partition the disk with the fdisk.
Default layout indicates that there would be 1 x86 partition (primary, boot) and the remaining would be a solaris partition - implying that all my other data would get formatted out!!!
When i try to use the fdisk to manually partition the disk, the free space mntd above does not show up!!!
But this is seen when i use the DOS fdisk - i.e. i could create a logical drive on the extended dos partition...
Can some one please help me install the Solaris in the free space i have ?? Thanks.

    Hello!
There is one simple method also..
Instead of Installation disk of Solaris, insert the Software 1/2 Disk, and try to follow the actuall Suninstall method of installing Solaris. Here you will get the option that how to utilize the free space.
I myself have installed more 5 OS on a single Hard disk :) this way. Try this method
