[installation] studio creator on Suse 10.1

Hi there,
on my laptop (1,7 Ghz cpu, 1 Ghz ram), runs Suse 10.1(kernel Linux 2.6.16.13-4-default i686) and I'd like install studio creator wich is at moment on XP (and I'm not very happy about the performance).
But looking at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/sysreqs/index.jsp#04
it seems that it can only runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.
Did anyone try it on Suse, what will be the conseguence if I proceed anyway?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest HotFixes from the Update Center, on your window machine? The HotFixes have several performance improvement fixes.

Regarding creator on suse 10.1, users have reported that it runs fine:

    Actually, it looks like your install did not go well. On a G5, 10.3.9, we have no such errors. Among the things to watch for: incomplete downloads; make sure you are not installing as root user. Other: did you check these installation notes: http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/docs/2/Installation_ReleaseNotes.html#hwsw
    There is a troubleshooting table as well that pertains to all platforms.

  • How To Increase heap size in Java Studio Creator 2

    Hi,
    I'd like to know how I can increase the heap size in Java Studio Creator 2.
    I already tried editing creator.conf, but it doesn't seem to work...
    Can anybody help me?
    thanks.

    In the servers window of creator, right-click 'Deployment Server' and choose 'View Admin Console'. A new web page comes up with the web interface to the Sun Application Server 8. Type your username and password that you configured during installation. I think default username is admin and default password either admin or adminadmin. After you're in, click 'Application Server' link in the left window, then click 'JVM Settings' tab, then click 'JVM Options' tab. Add new JVM option -Xms512m to start the server with 512MB. Find the -Xmx option and edit it to something larger, provided you have enough memory on your system.

  • JSF conflict with Sun Java Studio Creator

    I was trying to use JSF but when i was installing Sun Java Studio everything went ok but there was a step saying "Deploying Web Services" that tool a lot of time about 10 minutes. So i cancelled it and the Sun Java Studio Creator was working well then when i was running the small application it didnt do anything. I think something wrong with the application server. I uninstalled Sun Java Studio Creator and installed it again.
    This time no problems in installation. Then when i was creating a new JSF application when i press finish an error(1) appears and the finish button is dimmed so i have to press cancel and another error occurs(2), but the project gives an error message(3)
    I have been trying to solve this problem but i dont know what to do.

    Please check / post the Creator log file ( Tools -> Java Studio Creator Log File)
    Check / post the server log file as well, which will give more info.
    To view the Sun Java System Application Server log file:
    In the Servers window, right-click the Deployment Server node and choose View Server Log.
    In any text editor, open the log file in the following location: install-directory\SunAppServer8\domains\creator\logs\server.log

  • Java Studio Creator ...

    Hi,
    I've downloaded the now free version of Java Studio Creator, and on the download page I was told I'd be emailed the serial number required for installation. Does anyone know how long this takes, or has anyone an email address I can contact Sun direct on !?
    Also, does anyone know if Enterprise Studio works on Mac OS X as there doesn't seem to be a download link ... or is it best to just use NetBeans for Web Service creation !?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mic

    Yep I'm positive the email address is up to date, as I only became a SDN member yesterday and received my confirmation ok.
    I don't think to be able to use the product you should have to download the EA of the next release.
    I think Sun should address this problem as searching the forums it seems like I'm not the only one affected.
    I have been in touch with Sun Support this morning, on the phone, via the feedback links and direct email and no-one seems to care. One stated that now because it's free they don't offer Technical support, but couldn't understand that in order to require Technical support you have to at least get as far as installing the product. I was after someone to confirm that the instructions on the website were correct and that I would either receive the serial number or someone could get one for me.
    I did after a few emails going back and forth, mention that I have seen lots of press interest (especially online) about Sun releasing these tools FOC, and wondered how they would be interested of my experiences to actually get hold of the software, and others. Since then I've had no response.
    I would love to be able to use the product as it looks really sweet and I'm sure I could put it to some really good use, but only if I could get it installed.

  • Keyboard settings in Java Studio Creator

    I am using Solaris 10, Swedish installation. All programs exept Java Studio Creator 2 Update 1 is Swedish. The Creator is in English. Every program so far, exept Java Studio Creator, uses the Swedish keyboard settings.
    When using Java Studio Creator, I am missing brackets "[" and "]" which turns into "8" and "9",
    How do I configure Java Studio Creator to use my Swedish keyboard settings?
    Thanks in advance!

    I have not tried it, but perhaps this article might help.

  • License Question On Java Studio Creator 2

    Hello. At the 2006 Java One Conference, I picked up a free DVD set of the Java All Access Kit/Sun Developer Kit. Within the kit contained the Studio Creator 2. I would like to install the software but I am concerned upon the issue of the license. I do not have an entitlement nor have ever purchased Studio Creator 2. The DVD that I picked up at Java One, was that an Evulation Use copy? I am unsure. With that, I am writing to see if someone can assist me & answer a question I have: Is the evaluation valid for a period of 90 days from first use? This was listed in the EULA during the Studio Creator's installer.
    Thank you for your attention - any assistance/help is appreciate.

    While I can't tell you what was on the DVD that you got at JavaOne, I can tell you that Sun Java Studio Creator 2 is free. You can even download the latest full version at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/downloads/index.jsp

  • Can't install Java Studio Creator 2!!!

    Hello,
    First of all I just want to say that I tried a lot to solve this problem myself, I read lots of help and visited lots of website, but couldn't solve this problem !!!!!!!
    I downloaden Java Studio Creator 2 and trying to install it, but while installing the installation just stops without saying anything!!
    I downloaded it several times now coz I thought the file was corrupt, but it didn't work!!.
    I never had the Creator before so the other tips wouldn't work!!!
    At the end of all wizard screens when it should install the Creator 2 the installation exits withouts giving any messages and does nothing more!
    Could someone please give me some advice on how to slove this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    You are probably running out of Ram, and maybe even low on hard disk space to. The minimum system requirement is 512 MB of Ram. I am running 768 MB, but even with that I am virtually maxed out with Creator, a database, and the App server running. Those three items are really needed for development, and I have noticed that if I do actually max out the RAM the Appserver will not start and I have to reboot.
    I would say for development with creator you really need 1 Gig of Ram, which I will be upgrading to in a couple weeks.

  • How to Install Java Studio Creator

    Hello:
    I have a question regardin on how can I optimize the resources that my enterprise already have. I.e I can put an X86 Server (i mean really a server) to be an application server, however i can do It with the Java Studio Enterprise, but not on the Java Studio Creator, the question is the following.
    Can I put an application server to the wole development departemen (the only have got The Java Studio Creator) so their Pc run smoother and need no RAM upgrade (actually most of the have got 256 Mb).
    I Mean Put only to the PC the IDE an point the application server to another Server
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
    Sun Java Studio Creator comes bundled with all the various components.It does not have an option for choosing the components to install .
    An RFE has been filed on your behalf for choosing the required components only at the time of installation.
    Thanks,
    Creator Team.

  • Sun Studio creator & Liferay

    Hai All
    I need a help badly as i'm working with Sun Studio Creator,Liferay,Tomcat 5.5,SQL Server

    It Works fine but if i'm trying to gothrough the tabs its getting error
    can anyone help me
    Thanks

    Liferay has a forum and you should use it - http://forums.liferay.com/ :-)
    btw, I have used the liferay portal 3.2.0 with jboss/tomcat with inbuilt and custom portlets and never had such an issue. Note that you application user is not the login user to the portal. by default you have to use [email protected]/test and id/pwd.
    Check the installation, dev instructions at

  • Cloudscape & Java Studio Creator - Need Connection URL for toursDB

    Has anyone been able to create a data source and connect to the bundled demo databases in the default Cloudscape installation (sample or toursDB) with Java Studio Creator on MacOS X.
    I have Cloudscape running ok and I have Java Studio Creator running and I added the "derby.jar" and "derbytools.jar" files to the jar list in Java Studio creator but I'm not sure what the connection URL should be to connect to the example databases.

    Well, I think I now to having everything working!! I was able to connect to one of the sample Clouldscape databases (bundled with the Cloudscape 10.0 distribution in SJCS) - I had to do the following
    --- 1 --- After downloading a Java tool called DbVisualizer Free 4.1.1 and reviewing its documentation I was able to discover how to set an essential Java System Property for it as well as Sun Java Studio Creator on MacOS X. The property was derby.storage.fileSyncTransactionLog=true. This was needed to work around an Apple Java VM problem by bypassing code that uses write sync (rws) mode. The info for this is on the Apache site at: http://www.ibm.com/Search?q=Cloudscape+failures+on+Mac&v=14?=en&cc=zz&Search.x=47&Search.y=10 and the info for setting system properties on "double clickable Java Apps" on MacOS X can be found at: http://www.dbvis.com/products/dbvis/doc/4.1.1/doc/ug/admin/admin.html
    --- 2 --- Using the tool in *1* above I then actually got it to connect to an existing sample bundled Cloudscape database using the following connection URL jdbc:derby:/pathToTheDatabaseDirectory (needed to add the path to the URL) and the userID and Password as user1,user1 for reasons stated in the following forum link http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/dw_thread.jsp?forum=370&thread=66046. I also used the driver class org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver.
    --- 3 --- Finally, using the config info I used in *2* above I then used the following settings in Sun Java Studio Creator
    DataSource Settings Panel Fields set as follows (for Cloudscape 10.0 installation)
    DisplayName ---> Cloudscape
    JDBC Driver Jar Files ---> derby.jar
    Driver Class Name ---> org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver
    URL Template ---> jdbc:derby:
    And then......Add Data Source panel fields set as follows
    ---DataSourceName --> datasource1
    ---ServerType____ Cloudscape
    ---HostName ---> left this blank
    UserID -> user1
    ---Password ---> user1
    ---DatabaseURL ---> jdbc:derby:/Applications/IBM/Cloudscape_10.0/derbyDB
    ---DriverClass ---> org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver
    thanks for your help. I had been able to connect to Cloudscape programmatically (which your blog documents well), but getting the Sun Java Studio Creator (SJSC) IDE configured for Cloudscape wasn't obvious. Hopefully the above info in *1* and *3* will help anyone using the SJSC IDE on MacOS X. The DbVisualizer Free 4.1.1 is a slick tool I discovered along the way as well.

    1. load up the embedded driver.
    2. use jdbc:derby:toursDB as the database URL.
