Installation under VirtualBox - Downloads keep stopping

Hi All,
Im having a problem during the download part of the Arch install. Im running Arch (FTP) 32 bit installer, within Virtual Box, under Windows 7, over a wireless network. Ive set my network adapter to bridge mode.
Everything works great up to step 5 - install packages, where it starts the download. Pacman seems work fine then stops downloading a package randomly (Ive tried it 4 different times, using different mirrors; each time it stops at a different one for over 30 mins, the afi process and network adapter are both doing nothing). The network seems to be working, even when its stopped; I can use wget and ping without a problem etc.
The way Im currently getting round it is by switching to a new terminal, killing the pacman process, deleting the lock file (/mnt/var/lib/pacman/db.lck), and restarting the download, and it resumes from where it started.
I guess I have a couple questions, 1. is there a proper way to stop/resume an install with aif , and 2. has anybody else seen this or know why it might be happening?

I have a feeling it may be Virtual Box because I've seen other posts with similar network problems (although most people report that the network doesn't work at all).  Its a bit weird though; after the install I haven't had a single problem.

I am unable to download updates directly to iPad 2 , now trying to reinstall one from scratch but download keeps stopping and the restarting. Can you offer any advice, this happening when trying to download to laptop in itunes as well. Have tried to download on different broadband lines without success. Is this an apple problem due to high demand or something else?
Everything has worked well until about a month ago, up to date iOS 5 and itunes installed. Tried resetting numerous times, turned off all apps still no joy. Ipad was great but now feeling buying one was mistake. Also recent music purchase was useless and tunes would not play correctly.

Since this is happening on the iPad and the computer, it might be worth a try to reboot your router - unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Quit iTunes on the PC, reboot it and the iPad as well
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons

  • Download keeps stopping, no idea why!?!?!?

    Hi,
My son urgently needs the Adobe CS 5.5 Design Premium Suite for an ongoing school project.  So I purchased a copy from the Adobe website.  Of course, it wasn't until AFTER I paid for it that I realised he couldn't get a purchased copy until you had verified his student i.d.   So... three days later we are STILL trying to download a trial version for him to use until his registration comes through.
Here is our problem.  He was running IE7.  The Adobe Download Assistant apparently has a problem with this version of IE, so we upgraded to IE8.  The download assistant installs fine, it reinitiates the download for CS5.5 Design Premium which is in the queue, and then after about 10 minutes stops.
We get the standard error from Windows stating that the Adobe Download Assistant has encountered an error and needs to close.   Then nothing.
I have cleared out the browsing history and cookies.  Uninstalled the ADA, and reinstalled it, rebooted the computer, refreshed the download screen, restarted the download (AGAIN!!!) and it keeps happening.   Now the ADA just stops, and disappears.  We aren't even getting the error message from Windows half of the time.
I would download onto my own pc and copy the files across before install, but the ADA installs the program for you!!  So... what do I do?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
    Cheers,
    Frustrated mum.

    Hi Jeff,
We are downloading and Installing to the default drive, and no other error messages are being received.
We’ve read through the Knowledgebase, googled the problem, my husband (I.T. specialist) has spent a goodly portion of time going through it, and we’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that the ADA simply doesn’t like my son’s computer.  Unless you have a solution, we will bite the bullet and cancel our download purchase, and go out and buy the cd’s.
Thanks for any help you can give.

  • ITunes Movie Download keeps stopping at 1.64GB

    Hiya,
I recently bought the Avengers off iTunes [HD, trying 1080p] but everytime the download gets to around 1.64GB, the timer vanishes and the progress bar stops going up indefinatly, though it says it's still downloading.
The iTunes extra part of the download has installed and works perfectly (it was a seperate download). Occasionally when using the pause/resume all button to try and get the movie download to work the extra came up with a -50 error, but after another reset it downloaded fine. Another issue both have had is the timer starts saying thousnds of hours will be needed for the download after a pause/unpause. The movie is watchable upto about 41 minuets after/during every download
    Thing's i have tried:
-Deleting the "Downloads" folder in iTunes media
-Downloading to an external Hard Drive by changing the locatoin of my iTunes Media folder (where the download froze at about 400MB instead of 1.6GB)
-Deleting the film/download file and begging the download anew from "check for availabe downloads"
    -Restarting iTunes
-Restarting my computer (2011 13" Mac Book Pro Running Lion 10.7.5)
-Leaving the download to run over night, was still on 1.64GB in the morning.
    -Watching/Not Watching whilst downloading.
I might try downloading in SD/720p, but will i be able to download the 1080p version later on if i do so?
    Many thanks.

    Heya, thanks for replying
I eventually got in touch with iTunes support who could see I still had pending downloads and were quite happy to cancel them and give me a store credit refund. Their advice was to try another movie or leave it for a few weeks as the movie I wanted was under high demand, which may have led to the problems I had (Avengers + Christmas, fair enough really).
...so about 2 days later I tried it again along with the batman trilogy and everything downloaded just fine.
I always hate the idea of going to customer support but I have to say apple's has always been quick, reasonable and helpfull, so just go for it with a detailed explination and you should be fine
    Good luck!

  • Itunes downloads keep stopping

Well, my downloads were doing fine before I upgraded to Itunes 7. Now when they download they cut off and the message -3259 pops up and tells me that I'm not connected to the Itunes Music Store which is complete bull, because I'm operating the store and it is functioning because it's where I'm getting my downloads from. I looked at the support center and it doesn't have anything for error -3259 under Windows or Mac. Can somebody please help me out?

Same problem here... mostly with TV shows. Small podcasts seem to do okay.
It doesn't matter whether I'm connected to my own ISP (via WiFi or Ethernet cable) or any other network. It times out everywhere.

  • Ipod touch restore keeps stopping mid download, what do I do?

Trying to restore an Ipod touch that was used as a store demo and is locked. No one knows the code and the restore download keeps stopping mid download. What can I try next?

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer
    - Lastm, go to an Apple store.

Im trying to download itunes it says i need quicktime that keeps coming up with error saying to go to c;/windows/installer/quicktime.msi what does this mean

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

You will be advised by people here that Sophos is "junk" and should be removed {...} Sophos actually works pretty well, in my testing, and so I would suspect that there may be an underlying problem with your file system that needs to be repaired.
FWIW, I have used Sophos regularly for several years now (including on my new iMac running Mountain Lion versions 10.8.2 & now 10.8.3) & never had any problems with it on any of the half dozen or so Macs I have installed it on.
Quite a few people automatically assume all Mac A-V software is troublesome junk, & many will leap to the conclusion it is the cause of some problem without considering other potential (& often much more likely) causes, regardless of which A-V product is installed.
Obviously I hope, not all A-V products are alike, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to condemn them all because of problems with one of them. Regarding Sophos in particular, finding first hand reports of it causing problems is quite difficult -- typically, if you ask for the details it turns out to be a second or third hand report & there isn't enough info available to know for certain if it is the real cause or not.
This is not to say it is impossible for it to cause problems, just that it is prudent to consider all the possibilities before concluding that any one of them is the cause.

I too am facing this problem, however a little differently. I am in the process of uploading my vinyl collection to digital format in Audacity and am having this problem with multiple tracks when played in iTunes. The first few albums I ripped play just fine in iTunes, but the last few skip over about the last minute of every song and go to the next song. As you said, if you drag the time marker past the skipping point though, the rest of the song will play to the end just fine. I then synced these songs onto my iPod and they play perfectly straight through. I was leaning toward a bad mp3 encoding process that was maybe creating a glitch but I'm not sure at this point if they play correctly on my iPod. In quicktime the song will just stop playing at that specfic point, but if you hit play again, it will continue to the end. I can say though, I haven't seen this problem with any iTunes download, or ripped CD that I have ever put into iTunes (which makes my situation a tad different than yours), it's been purely the songs that I have imported via Audacity from LP's.
