Installation without DVD player for a MAC

I have a Mac OS X 10.9.1 without DVD player. I bought Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 (CD). Can I install this software without the CD with my serial number since I can't use a CD with my Mac. Thank you.

Sure. The DVD is probably an outdated version anyway.
Download the latest Lightroom 5.3 from the Adobe website.

Install it then enter your serial number to license it.

There producing HD DVD so why isnt there a computer dvd drive that handles it.

Your Mac DVD drive won't play HD-DVD for the same reason your old DVD player won't play HD-DVD. Its a different format.
Logic suggests that as time goes on, HD-DVD drives might become more widely available for computers but as Apple has already signed on to the Blu-Ray format, its hard to know if HD-DVD will be supported on Mac in the future.

Nothing technical has been discussed. It is blocked because of licensing/copy protection.
I have to buy another DVD player?
The Apple TV is not a DVD player. So if you do not already own a player, then yes you will have to purchase one to view them on your TV.

  • Can't install the Toshiba HD DVD Player for Windows 7 - 64 Bit

Notebook: Toshiba Qosmio G40 with windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
I can't install the HD DVD Player Driver from Toshiba for Windows 7 - 64 Bit 4.60.03 from 30/11/09 !
The installation will be cancel with information that the software can not be installed on this system.

Problem is that this file you have downloaded is not the player but just an update.
Usually you should be able to install player designed for Vista and later install this upgrade but, as I can see, Toshiba doesnt offer HD DVD player for Vista 64-bit.
I presume your notebook was delivered with Vista 32-bit only. Am I right about that?

  • Help! dvd won't play in dvd player or on mac!

this is my first imovie creation. it's just a slideshow in imovie, that i've exported to idvd to burn onto a dvd. i have an external dvd burner, so i am saving as a disc image, and burning the file that creates. the problem is, once i burn the disc, the dvd does not work in my dvd player, on my mac, anywhere!
i've never done this before, but i think i have all the settings correct. should i be doing something other than burning that disc image file? many thanks for any answers or help!!!

    not on my dvd player
Your player would be considered pre-historic by today's DVD standards. I had a Sony of that age, which I gave to my neighbor. My friend had the same model and some of my DVDs played while others didn't. Seemed it didn't like some brands, like TDK. Since you're new to this, I'll give you the following "blurb" that should help you make some media decisions. You can take your DVD to a store and try it and buy a new player. I'd avoid Toshiba based on my experience with friend's players...
My reliable DVD-Rs have been: Apple 4X (Maxell ID), RiTek 4X; Verbatim 1-8X, RiData 8X, and PioData 8X, all white inkjet printable. The RiData and PioData checked out to be RiTek-made.
Verbatim is reliable and can be found in many stores in the USA. They even make a special grade for medical records.
You can buy the RiTek, RiData, and PioData at:

Verbatim may be available in your neighborhood Office Depot store, or:

Apple brand can be purchased from the Apple online store.

    Here's a great site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
You could wade through this: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
From that database: Five brands and who actually manufactures the DVDs:
TDK = TDK, RITEKG04, RICOHJPN, MXL, CMC, MCC
Memorex = CMC, RICOHJPN, PRODISC, INFODISC
Imation = CMC, MCC, Ritek, Prodisc
    Sony = MCC 01RG20, Sony04D1, TYG01
    Fuji = FUJIFILM02..4X, FUJIFILM03..8X, ProdiscF01..8x, ProdiscS03..4x, PVC001001..2x, RITEKG03..1x, TAIYOYUDEN..2x, TYG01..4x, TYG02..8x
This can result in "mixed" experiences...
My friend used TDK on his Mac and it wouldn't play in his 5 year old Sony DVD player. All of mine play OK in his "antique" Sony. Update: He finally gave up on that antique and bought a Sony DVPNS775V which also plays double-layer DVD+R.

  • Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

You can burn a plain CD/DVD by just dragging the photos there; but, that may or may not be playable by everyone. To be sure that the result would be playable in any computer or CD/DVD player, it would be better to use either one of the apps already on your system - such as iPhoto. I don't use that myself - I use other third party software - but take a look at iPhoto help. And, you could make it more interesting by creating a slideshow - also in iPhoto, or iMovie. To give it the final cool touch, bring it into iDVD to give it a polished look if you'd like. You can burn it then from any of the above.
If you happen to have Toast (an excellent burning app), you could use that as well (that is my preferred way to work). In Toast, you have multiple choices: burn a data CD/DVD for Mac only, for Mac & PC, etc, burn a picture CD, video DVD, etc, etc.

  • Burned a dvd but, it will not play on my dvd player for tv

I created a slideshow with itunes music added in iphoto.  I tried the recommended free "burn for mac" software download.  It burned a dvd but, this will not play on my dvd player for tv.  What software title can i purchase that will burn my iphoto slideshow to a dvd that will play on typical home dvd player for tv AND on a windows pc?

some dvd players are very picky on what they will play some only
    play dvd+r some only dvd-r some can't play dvd+rw and or dvd-rw
dvd burnable is a pretty fragmented std.

  • Transfering a video from my DVD player into my MAC (IMOVIE)?

How can I transfer a video, which I can play my DVD player into my MAC (IMOVIE)?

    Hey Doug,
    Thanks for responding.
Here's the deal: I have a Sony Camcorder (that records on a small hard disc), which I'm borrowing to capture about 4 minutes of footage. THe Sony DOES NOT have a firewire port. So I thought that MAYBE I could play the dvd on a dvd player and transfer he footage form the dvd player to my MAC.
But jnow I'm wondering, even if I could, would htere be any "code" or encoding problems, since it is coming from a minidvd camcorder rather than from a minidv camcorder.
Maybe the best solution is just find a minidv camcorder and capture the footage on that (I just have to fiond one).
    Thanks,

  • DVD Player for X61

Can someone tell me where can I download DVD Player for my X61. I like Intervideo but need to pay. My X61 does not have DVD Player. Window Media Player cannot play some of my DVD format.

    > Can someone tell me where can I download DVD Player for my X61.
Download and install the K-Lite Codec Mega Pac. It includes both a video player and dozens of codecs. It will play virtually any video file.
    Best of all, it's free.

  • Anyone knows a DVD player for TV which can play QuickTime movies /FCP movie

I am trying to find a DVD player for my television which can play a QuickTime or Final Cut Pro movie which is on a DVD. Do you know one ?
    I have a FCP movie (720 x 576 ) transfed to a DVD ( UDF format ).
I have tryed to play the DVD in many DVD plyers, but they all say " unknown file format "

playing them through AppleTV, can do the trick?
yes and no. The AppleTV is a terribly crippled product. Seems to have been launched with only a few of its capabilities enabled and then it sort of got forgotten.
Before investing in an AppleTV box, be sure to read the product reviews from the MAcintosh magazines and especially the PC magazines. You want to get objective information about this weirdly limited box.

All laptop drives are a standard size and any SATA Blu-ray drive will fit. Remove the rear mount and bezel from you old one and mount it on the new one.
Here is a thread where the guy has done the same thing, Huffer has provided a video. It talks about a Dell and it's a little long, but it does eventually get to the part where the front bezel's are change out.

It has been reported that the Sony Blu-ray drives are giving problems, but after reading some of these threads, it sounds more like a software problem.
When you install the drive and boot up, Windows will automatically install the driver(s) for you. HP Media Smart DVD is the only Blu-ray playing software that HP has to offer and it can be problematic.
I would recommend to buy some third party software form ArcSoft or Cyberlink. Keep in mind that Cyberlink makes the software for HP, so if you have problems with MS DVD then they may occur with Cyberlink. You can always use their trial first.
Here is a link to MS DVD, I use this on in my dv8 and it will (should) work in your Dragon.
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-87326-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...
Save it to the desk top and install it from there, not from a temporary folder. If you are using Commodo Fire Wall and/or AVG anti virus software, these have to be disabled before downloading and installing MS DVD.
If you have problems installing MS DVD, post again and there is trick to get it to install.

  • What is the best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?

What is the Best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?  Have Maverick OS.

I have already looked at other threads in this forum, so 'I venture forth' to ask my question here:
I have a 44 minute carefully edited iMovie with several chapter markers. I dimly recollect that when you 'dump' the entire movie into iDVD (my version is 7.1) it should detect the markers and create buttons to link to specific scenes. Well, the 'dumping' process obviously doesn't work.
How do you get iDVD to recognize the markers and ceate buttons to link?
I can create with iDVD a DVD that will play the movie in its entirety. This is not suitable for my purposes. I need access via a menu to specific scenes.
    Thank you,
    Klaus

You won't be able to play HD-DVD or BD-DVD's in your computer or with your monitor.
Right now the whole "High def" on computers is up in the air and will require a DRM solution from the computer ot the monitor. Enjoy your powerful machine and wait out the next few years until everything settles down.
When it does you can sell what you have and buy the new hottness.
