Installation Without Using A CD Burner

1. De-partition a drive completely, the drive will have no partitions or VTOC, nothing.
2. Write the iso file to the disk "cat isofile > /dev/dsk/c1d0p0"
3. Use a DCA from an old CDROM or burn a boot disk, use it to select the drive that wrote the iso to. The installer boots and does its bit. Mount the drive as an hsfs to copy in additional packages, "mount -F hsfs /dev/dsk/c1d0p0 /mnt"
Make sure that you don't move the disk later (put it in the right slot the first time) recreating the device.tab is harder than reinstallation.
Tip2: Bypassing some script error while processing a recently downloaded jrt, copy the files in SUNWj3rt/archive to /usr. Run the pkgadd command to update thepkg db. There seems to be some strange thing when updating the jrt to 1.4.1 from 1.4.0 that came with the OS.
Request1: Statically linked copies of ls and cat in the /sbin directory...
Andrew

I think it probably would but you'd need to find the correct driver for it. I believe most Mac drives from that era are basically Pioneer drives. I know it works in reverse and you don't have to buy a "Mac-specific" drive when shopping for one and have put a generic Pioneer-112D in my Quicksilver. I even put drives scavenged out of PCs in my G3 without doing anything other than plugging it in.

  • Mavericks installer without using the App store

Where can I download a Mavericks installer without using the App store? My company has not sanctioned use the app store. I have admin rights and am allowed to upgrade myself if I am able to download a standalone version from the website. Which is what I usually do.

Of course. I should have been more specific. I meant from the Apple website. Typically, I have always downloaded standalone installers from http://support.apple.com/downloads/. However, the 10.9.1 updates you will find here require 10.9. That's my probem. I can't find a 10.9 standalone as I have been able to in the past.

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

The only way to get 10.5 is to purchase it on CD. Such as http://www.amazon.com/Mac-OS-Leopard-10-5-10-51/dp/B0012RAVRC where is being sold for $179.99.
If your optical drive is broken, you will either need to replace it or get an external. There is no other way.
Why do wish to upgrade? As you can see it is going to be expensive, probably more the Mac is worth.

  • How to burn to DVD without using a menu

How can I burn a project to DVD without using a menu? When I open iDVD, it wants me to select a menu. I just want my project to play without using any kind of menu. Can someone walk me through this? Thanks.

If you use iDVD it is quite simple: after creating the iDVD project, open the tree view, where the project is presented as a tree of menus. Drag your movie from the finder to the top (root) node of the tree, and burn the DVD. Your movie will be played just after inserting the DVD in the player, without showing any menu.

    Hi All,
is it possible to install the Essbase 11 client without using the Fusion Installer?
I tryed to copy the "bin" and "locale" directory from an exisiting installation and set up the ARBORPATH environment variable - without success.
Did I miss anything? Maybe some Registry entries? Or isn't it possible to set up the essbase client manually?
    Every answer would be appreciated.

  • Want to burn imovie without using one of the themes

How do I burn a DVD without using one of the themes

    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • Installation issue - using a remote server without using remote desktop or citrix

    Hello Experts..
We have a client who wants to install SAP Client (SAP 9 PL 11) in their local machines, but connecting to a remote server. They want to avoid connecting through Remote Desktop or Citrix. They already installed SAP clients in local pc's and when they select the server, they already configured it to a server located overseas. We succed on achieve the connection, but the performance is really poor (sometimes it takes about 2 minutes to open a simple menu in SAP).
We ran internet speed tests in the client's office and in the server, and both results were more than satisfactory. But we couldn't come up with a reason for this enviroment works properly..
The question is... Is this kind of enviroment supported by SAP?? Do you know about any alternative to connect from the local PC to a remote server without using remote desktop or citrix??
    Thanks in advance...
    Raúl Fragueiro

    Hi,
I assumed you are using VPN connection right?
In your scenario that is normal since the GUI of SAP B1 is not built for type of connection compare
    to SAP ERP GUI.
The only SAP supported type of remote connection is either Terminal Server or Citrix.
In our own scenario we are using Terminal Server and we are very satisfied. We have used
this between to different cities. This is also prevents data corruption cause by intermittent
    internet connection.
Hoping you will be convinced of using Terminal Server or Citrix.
By the way, a quick question, why are you hesitant to use RDC or Citrix?
For overview, if your remote requirement is just simple and basic you may use Terminal Server.
The implementation of  this is very fast and simple also, what you need is only a license.
If complex and advance features connection requirement connection use Citrix.
For better understanding you may search from the site for the difference of the two.
    Thanks.

  • Guide to installing XP on your Mac without using Bootcamp (kinda)

Installation instructions for bootcamping your mac with XP
This method does not use the bootcamp utility in OSX
    What you need:
A working bootable version of Windows XP SP2  ( see note below ) + product key
Bootcamp 2.1 drivers for Windows ( can be installed / copied from the original leopard installation disk under windows )
    Windows XP SP3 installer
    Apple HFS+ drivers for XP
note:          Using a clean version of the XP installation disk is preferable..  specifically the version that came with Service Pack 2 ( saves time installing services packs later ).  Trying to use a unattended slipstream install of XP can result in a disk that cannot be read by OSX bios at boot. So save yourself some time and use a vanilla version.
warning:      Follow these instructions at your own risk. Any loss of data, bricking your computer or any other form of meyhem originating from using these instructions are at entirely your own risk. Have fun!
    OK! lets get started!
Burn your windowsXP.iso to a CD/DVD using diskutil application under OSX
choose open ISO image in diskutil
right click loaded image and select burn ISO
( optional step ) reboot while holding down the 'option' key and confirm that OSX can read your newly created boot
Using diskutil partition your OSX hard drive
select the main partition and click the "+" to add a new partition
adjust the size of the partition as needed
set to format the partition to 'fat'
    name parition 'Windows HD'
    apply changes
Insert XP install disk and reboot
hold down the 'option' key as your mac chimes on restart
wait until your boot options are display ( you will see the Macintosh HD disk, Windows HD disk, and the XP installation disk )
using the arrow keys on the keyboard select the XP installation disk and hit enter
hit any key when the XP installation prompts you to begin installation
    Proceed through the installation process
when prompted for installation location browse for the newly created partition from step 2 ( usually identified by partition type.. eg: fat, and size of the partition )
do not reformat the partition..   use it as is.
during the installation XP will reboot several times.. make sure you hold down the option upon each reboot of you mac.. however from now on select the Windows drive
enter in your product key when prompted.
complete installation and boot into XP for the first time.
Install XP Service Pack 3 ( proceed to step 6 if this installs correctly )
note:           if you are prompted 'not enough space to install' do as below:
Click Start, click Run, type “regedit” (without quotes) and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
On the Edit menu, point to New, and click String Value.
In the text box under the Name column, type "BootDir" (without quotes) and press ENTER.
Right-click the name BootDir, and then, click Modify.
In the Edit String Value dialog box, type the drive letter for your system drive, and then click OK.   For example, if your system drive is C: then, type "C:\" (without quotes).
Close Registry Editor and restart the computer.
Install Windows XP Service Pack 3 that you downloaded.
note:           x86 folder is for 32-bit Windows
x86_64           folder is for 64-bit Windows
      6.   Install bootcamp 2.1 drivers
note: you can also find the drivers on any original leopard OSX installation disk..  just insert into you CD/DVD drive under windows and the installation will start automatically
      7.   Update bootcamp twice ( reboot after each update )
      8.   Install the Apple HFS+ drivers for XP to gain 'read-only' access to your OSX HFS partition
              a.  Copy AppleHFS.sys & AppleMNT.sys to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\
              b.  Merge Add_AppleHFS.reg
              c.  Restart
At this point you are done..  final things you can do is to set bootcamp to always boot into Windows first ( no need to hold down the option key ) and install any newer drivers.. i.e. graphics drivers..  other than that.. you can go ahead and enjoy XP!

Having just put a 1TB hard drive in my MacBook Pro(late 2008) running Mountain Lion. I, being greedy, wanted partition the drive and have Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard (to run legacy apps) and Windows XP(currently running under Fusion) available on boot.
My main partition is ML. I repartitioned the 1TB drive and installed SL. SL Boot Camp won't let you install XP unless the SL partition is the one and only. So I followed your excellent instructions to set up XP having created a 100GB FAT partition. I didn't reformat the partition as per your step 4b (unlike the Boot Camp instructions page 8 step 2). However on rebooting into the XP drive it halts with a "hal.dll" error. ["i'm sorry I can't do that Dave" - 2001 A Space Odyssey]
Other options I've tried have been:
1 to format as NTFS at step 4b
2 to use a 32GB FAT partition as recommended in the Boot Camp guide.
    Nothing has worked
Thought of trying to wipe all partitions and install SL as main OS. Then use Boot Camp to install XP. Finally to add partition for ML and install.
    Maybe no!
    cheers

  • Updating My Mac Without Using A CD?

I've recently started reusing my Macbook (10.4.11) after breaking another laptop... I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade - and I've read I can upgrade to snow leopard if I increase RAM size then by the CD etc... - but I need to upgrade without the CD. The reason I stopped using my Mac was because the CD disk drive is broken and too expensive to fix. Therefore I was wondering if there is any way to upgrade without using a CD?

You can get a fairly cheap external CD/DVD burner/player at Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/External-CD-DVD-Blu-Ray-Drives/SubCategory/ID-420?Order=PR ICE
10.6 Snow Leopard is on a DL DVD. The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.

If you have Pages you can create customs pages for your book as TD suggested. If you have Pages from iWork 09 or 11 this app will add 80 or so additional frames to those offered:  Frames and Strokes Installer. Don't use it on the latest Pages version, however.
This tutorial shows how to create a custom page with the theme's background: iP11 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book.  Once the page is complete to get it into iPhoto as a jpeg file follow these steps:
Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. For books to be printed choose 300 dpi.
