Installed 10.9.2 on Macbook Pro and safari crashes.

I purchased a used Macbook Pro (2010) yesterday.  When prompted to upgrade to 10.9.2, I did so.  After the upgrade was finished, I could not open Safari without getting an error message screen.  When I click on the Safari icon, the colored ball appears and after a few minutes of swirling, I get the error message.  I have done a force quit of the application repeatedly and have restarted the computer several times.   The computer seemed to be fine for the short time I used it before upgrading to the new OS.  I am able to use the program Mail to retrieve emails but have no way of accessing the internet without a browser.  I am using a friend's computer to get help.    Any suggestions?

Migration should never be done with any Adobe program.
If you have done Migration, you have to UNINSTALL first (if even possible) and then download Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and run that also. When this is done, restart your computer and install the programs from an original Adobe Installer.
Other question is, if your OS is supporting that version. You can try it, it is not officially supported, but it might work.
But CC will work, upgrade to CC2014 (without additional cost), use that as it is better anyway.

It would be easier to just fix whatever is making your machine slow.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.
Disclaimer: Although EtreCheck is free, there are other links on my site that could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

You could just disable updates. Change these settings in about:config.
    * app.update.auto - set to false
    * app.update.enabled - set to false
You can still check for updates with the "Check for Updates" button in the About Firefox window, but it will download the update file anyway if there is an update available. You can also check which is the current release from here:

Apart from the time needed to back up your data and clone the original drive to the new SSD, you should be able complete this in less than an hour.

    Verifying
Install the SSD in the HDD slot
Install the HDD in the optical slot
Boot to the HDD and format the SSD
Boot using Command R and restore the operating system from Time machine to the SSD

  • I install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro and freezing after waking up and is impossible restart

I install mountain lion on my macbook pro late 2009 and freezing after waking up and is impossible restart

Restart your mac in Safe Mode by holding down the 'shift' key while it powers up. You'll know if you've entered Safe Mode correctly if you see a progress bar underneath the grey Apple logo screen. Let go of the shift key when you see that, wait for the progess bar to complete then log in.
    After log in, go to
 > System Preferences... Users & Groups and remove everything from the 'Login Items' tab.
If you have any anti-virus software installed (Sophos, F-Secure, VirusBarrier, Mackeeper) uninstall it while in Safe Mode.
Restart your mac normally and test.
    Any improvement?

  • I installed Libre Office on my Macbook Pro and now I can't remove it!!!

I installed Libre Office on my Macbook Pro. It displays on my desktop the same as a USB would, offering me to eject "Libre Office". I am having trouble trying to get rid of it, as im not even sure I know how to uninstall stuff on here!
    Please help me

You haven't installed it. You've just downloaded it to your computer. Double-click on the .dmg file to mount it like an external drive. Double-click on the disk icon, then drag the Libre Office file into your Applications folder.
You can then eject the disk icon after which you can delete the .dmg file.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • Running 6.0.2 with MAC OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro and Firefox crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes. What have you done to your software? It sucks.

Running the new and improved 6.0.2 with Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro and Firefox keeps crashing. When I have Yahoo on my screen with MY FAVORITES on the left side I can't click on ANY of my favorites without a crash. I can hardly navigate anywhere without a crash. Have a MacBook Air running same OS and same Firefox with no problems. So what gives? What is happening and what should I do to fix this?

something similar has been happening to me for a a couple weeks (even before the most recent update, but now is definitely worse) on my 2010 MacBook Air. Firefox freezes upon startup, and then freezes maybe every twenty minutes or so when I'm actively using it, staying frozen for at least a minute or two. it drives me crazy.

  • Just installed 10.6.3 on MacBook Pro and external disks cannot be seen by OS.  Help

i installed 10.6.3 on my 17" MacBook Pro (updating from 10.5.8).  All my external disk drives which had all been visible to the system and accessible before the update no longer were visible to the OS. Not in the sidebar and not in the disk utility. After checking all connections etc. many reboots, resetting the pram i still am unable to see or access these disks.
From there i updated to 10.6.8 but exactly the same results. i'm not sure where to go from here. i have 4 externals on 2 different  usb routers and 1 external on a firewire router.
I'm considering removing the routers and trying each drive separately and directly connected to the laptop.
And of course, i'm short of time.
Anyone with similar problems and/or solutions?

You mean USB HUBs, correct? Not routers.
Yes remove the HUBs and try the drives connected directly to the computer.

  • Installing new SSD into older MacBook Pro and Organization Questions!!?

    Hello,
I am about to pull the trigger on a new Samsung 840 Pro 512gb ssd for my older Macbook Pro 5,3 with 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo.
I need some advice or at least point me in the direction of where I can read up to date info on properly executing the install of my new ssd.
    A little background:
I have a Seagate 500gb external hdd that has many older pictures/videos on it as well as my "just about full" 320gb hdd on this computer that will be getting the 512ssd.
Any comments/suggestions a to how I can organize all of this and have it in one accessable place? (I was planning on installing the 512ssd on this computer, putting everything on the 512ssd and then wiping the external drive and using it as a backup periodically in case something went wrong with the new ssd I would be installing on this computer.  Follow me? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
I've been telling my wife that we NEED to replace this drive before we lose many of our important pictures and other items on it.  We have used 319gb of which 45gb is still available.  I am nervous as this hdd is about 6-7 years old?
The pictures/videos are the most important to us and do not want to lose them.  Thanks, in advance, for your help!

How to use an SSD with your HDD
If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu.
You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed.
When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.

  • Install CS4 Production Premium on MacBook Pro and Windows workstation

Is it possible to purchase CS4 Production Premium PC version and install the Mac version on my MacBook Pro using the same license? I believe installation on a desktop and laptop is allowed in the EULA.

  • Firefox will not open at all on macbook pro and then crashes mac entirely.

My firefox wont open when I've clicked the icon, though there is a little blue light underneath it. I've installed and re-installed it and still not working. When I do click the icon in the dock my entire macbook freezes and I have to manually restart it. I'm afraid my knowledge of stuff like this is exceedingly limited, I've read through numerous problem solving posts but I just don't understand the instructions others have given. This has previously happened to my firefox and i renamed the .exe(?) file and that made it work but I can't remember how I did it/can't find the post that helped me. I'm sorry to be so basic but I don't know anymore and want my browser working again!

You won't want Firefox to be a .exe file, thats for windows. Make sure its extension is .app. You can do this by going to Finder>Applications>Firefox>the right click and click the "Get Info" button. Then, about halfway down will be the file name with the extension. Change it to Firefox.app if it is not already like that.
Also, you can check out this [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-keeps-crashing-startup support article] if this doesn't help.
    Have a great day!!

  • I've just installed mountain lion on my macbook pro. I cannot open preview and it is also stalling the log out sequence? How can I solve this

I've just installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro and cannot now open Preview. I've partly solved the reading of PDF documents by installing Adobe Reader, but Preview is also stalling the log out process. Any suggestions how I might solve this annoying trait would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

Just an FYI, normally you give the 'solved' award to the person who gave you the answer, not to yourself.
