(I feel your pain. It's taken me ages to work out basics with this program, and even then I don't understand how it really works).
Check the SUMMARY page of your device. Make sure the sync only checked songs etc option is unchecked
Go to MUSIC (next to Music on your device) and perform an artist search for it.

My parents have a small macbook, i forget which one. my father has downloaded over 10,000 songs from his collection and had over 100 playlists which he then synced to his ipod. he opened his laptop one morning and all of the playlists were gone. the songs are all still in the library but all playlists are gone and the ipod won't sync because it says it is synced to a different library. I tried restoring from the hard drive file (forgive my lack of terminology) and it didnt' return any playlists. Can anyone help?

Can you explain what you mean by this? Terminology aside you should be able to explain what you did, it's important in understanding what has already been done.
On this MacBook, does your Dad use Time Machine? What did you restore? What "hard drive file" are you referring?

Previous itunes library playlist damaged - how to recover?

my powerbook g4 is acting weird, lately. yesterday, i had to re-install all my previous accounts into mail, today, my itunes library (itunes 6.0.4) shows up as a damaged library and therefore cannot be opened. i would have to initiate a new playlist, which takes a lot of time. isn't there any chance to recover the damaged library? and why is it damaged at all?

If you've got a recently synched iPod you could use a
tool like SENUTI to retrieve you playlists.
hm,...what does it cost? well,...it shouldn't be an option to download another software to run a mac, right? i mean, aren't they suppose to be more reliable than pc's? which means: isn't there another option other than downloading a software solution?

In addition to running Hardware Test as suggested by Jolly Giant, have you tried reinstalling the 10.5.5 combo update?
As a side issue, is there a particular reason that you have not upgraded to 10.5.8? This might be a good time to do so.

Are they really gone? Look in your Home > Music > iTunes folder and folders inside. Do you see media there? Also try to use Spotlight to search for things you know you have.
If you keep media on an external drive, are they there? If it is all there, try starting iTunes with the option key held down and guide to the external.
If really gone, use a backup of your drive to restore the iTunes folder.
If no backup and they are really gone, you can download some items from Apple again. You'll have to re-construct the library though as all the playlists, ratings, date added, and some other things will be gone.

Are the photos you want to send back to your mac on your iPad, iPod, iPhone saved to the camera roll? If you have photos in other albums (not camera roll) share them to the camera roll.
Then connect your device via USB and lauch iPhoto. You will see your device as a camera in iPhoto. Import those photos like you would import from a camera.

What on earth makes you think that? He's posted in the Windows category of the Safari community. He has never mentioned Mac OS. He said Safari was installed on his PC in his very first post. Furthermore, the details of his replies to your advice are precisely what you should expect if he was using Safari for Windows, and trying to implement the (inapplicable and unimplementable) Safari for Mac advice in the context of his particular issue. You've got this one very badly wrong from the beginning right through to now, and in that context the implication that he was trying to get advice here on how to do something illegal was not only wrong, but insulting.
