Installed 6.05 upgraded no problem w/windows; BUT, won't play old music

Well, when I opened iTunes yesterday, I was asked if I wanted to upgrade so, like everyone else, I said 'yes'. the upgrade installed just fine (didn't lock up windows and I can still open iTunes)...however, it won't play my older iTunes downloads.
I've gotten the login screen to authorize each song. Not a problem; I figure that's normal. I enter my password and get the "Authorization successful!" message. WELL....the song still doesn't play. When I click play (I figure that at least it's authorized) -- I get the authorization login screen again!
Now I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (I've tried both the old version and the new version) -- even disabled McAfee (all components) -- but I get the same issue.
I don't get a file error; I just keep getting prompted to authorize then authorization successful; but no music.
Oh, I also deauthorized and reauthorized my computer: still nothing!
Help!!
Rob

hmmmmm. it's plausible that this is to do with a problem with the itunes configuration file. that's where the authorisation information is stored.
let's try seeing if rebuilding that file helps with the problem. for the technique, see the following document. (it's about a different error, but the technique is applicable to these sorts of things.)

i had this problem and finally figured it out. all that you need to do is go to your start menu and click on computer. select your main drive, (local drive) c usually. Next open the users file follow by your user name file, which is just like it sound it is a file labled as whatever your name is as you have it on your computer. Then you open up the AppData file. Next open the Roaming file. After that open the Apple Computer file followed by the iTunes file. Now you should see the folder labled iTunes Plug-ins folder. Now just Delete that folder. After that go to your iTunes and play your music.
If for some reason you don't see the AppData file you need to go to the upper left of your screen on select organize. a drop down menu will appear and you need to select folder and searc options. a small folder options window will appear. in this window you need to select the view tab. you need to select the show hidden files, folders, and drives bubble. now hit apply and then ok. that will allow the AppData folder to be seen.

  • I previoulsy have adding many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. And I could the CDs in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music but won't play it. Why

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week.  Help!  Thanks.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • My iPad and iPod touch won't play the music I choose. Has anyone any idea what the problem could be?

    Hi,
Since the IOS 5.0 update my iPad 2 and iPod touch (3e generation) won't play the music I choose. I choose a song from Michael Jackson for example and it's going to play something completely different. The images has changed aswel, so it is a bit strange.
I treind to sincronise them again, but this doesn't change a thing. Has anyone any idea what could be the problem and how to solve it?
    Kind Regards,
    Ward

So just in case anyone else ever runs into this...
I solved the issue and it was that between the plug of the new earbuds being slightly thicker than the Apple earpods, and the width of the case that I was using for my iPod, there wasn't a connection being made to activate the remote function.
I took off the case and now the earbuds work exactly as they should!

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.
    The MS articles in question:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316309 (1619 error)
    and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308419 (how to set special permissions)
    Hope this helps!

  • Installing JDK after upgrading JRE several times - WIndows XP

I am not certain if this is the correct forum for posting JDK installation questions (for Windows XP)? If not, please direct me to the correct one.
I would like to install the JDK for the very first time but I noticed that I have at least two versions of the JRE and a few updates for both. Should I uninstall both JRE's and their updates before installing the latest JDK OR do I merely overinstall?
    I have the following:
    J2SE Runtime 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime 5.0 Update 11
    Java 2 Runtime, SE v1.4.2_01
    Java 6 Update 20
Java SE Runtime 6 Update 1
Not sure what the difference between J2SE and Java 6 and whether or not I need both to run applications.
Thanks in advance for clearing up my confusion.

If not, please direct me to the correct one.Well you want to install a JDK thus you must have development purposes. So yes, this would be the correct forum. You do eventually want to do programming, right?

You only need one instance of Java to rule them all.

  • Old problem I know but I cant play any of the songs in my library.tells me  cant find original  . Have not changed anything  apart from going from xp to windows 7.

This support community is a bit new for me. Have read some old entries with the same problem but couldnt see any solutions. Libray shows all the songs ( over 2500) but I cant play any of them. Message is that itunes cant find the original.   ???? only difference is going from xp to windows 7 . can I put the songs from my ipod back on my computer maybe?

Go into windows explorer and find out where the music is now located - in Windows 7 you have libraries for documents, music, photos and video.
    iTunes is located:
    Music
    itunes
    iTunes Media
    music
If all the files are in that place it may just be that you have to amend a preference in iTunes:
    Edit
    Preferences
    Advanced
ensure   Keep itunes Media organised and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library are both ticked
Once ticked you will have a bit of a wait while iTunes re-organises the library but then your songs should all be playable again.

  • IPod won't play purchased music after upgrading.....

    Help -
My boss has the 30g video IPod. He has upgraded his Itunes software to 7.0 and also upgraded his IPod to 1.2 (whatever the newest version is). He is not having the problems I have seen others are having but the issue he is having is that his IPod will not play his purchased music.
I did find this article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303854) on the website and have tried everything it suggests to fix it. All the software is up-to-date, we have deauthorized and reauthorized his computer, and I have followed the instructions to recreate the Itunes Library. Still the songs won't play - he can navigate to the folder of purchased music on the IPod and it will let him hit play but it will just display the song and album cover and then keep skipping to the next song - never actually playing the song.
Can anyone please give me some advice for what else to try? If all else fails he would like to just restore his IPod and go back to ITunes 6.0. I tried this by uninstalling ITunes 7 and then installing 6 again but when I open 6 it says it can not be opened because the library was created by a newer version of ITunes. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Dell   Windows XP

I have this exact same problem since I bought my new 80GB iPod.
All purchased songs play fine in iTunes on my Mac but they just skip past each track when I try to play on my iPod. As mentioned above I have tried the advice Apple give and have restored my iPod and recreated library but I still have the same problems.

  • Windows media won't play mp4, audio no video

I upgraded from a desktop to the HP TouchSmart 15 TS Notebook PC so that I would have all the functionality
of a new operating system that would work. Guess I was mistaken?!?!?! I have the same problem I had with my old crappy desk-top, MP4 videos still don't play on Windows 8.1???? I get audio but no video????? just a black screen?????

According to Microsoft support website, Windows Media Player still won't support MP4 files. Though we can make WMP play MP4 video by install some codec, sometime we still encounter can't play MP4 in Windows Media Player issue. MP4 is a container format which may contain multiple video and audio streams. And the video and audio stream can be encoded any of several ways. If the MP4 video or audio codec is not WMP installed codec supported one, Windows Media Player won't play MP4 video of this kind. In order to solve "Windows Media Player won't play MP4 files even when the appropriate codec is installed" and to successfully play any MP4 video in Windows Media Player, we had better convert MP4 to Windows Media Player more supported video format like WMV, AVI. • ITunes Opens, But Won't Play/iTunes Has Detected A Problem With Audio

iTunes 7.4.3 and XP Pro on Dell laptop. The application opens, but no song plays. It appears at the top, but stays at zero. It keeps saying, " iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration." When in control panel, it says there is no audio device. Already checked it as default player. Tried repairing and nothing. Is it a driver? The last time I installed itunes on a pc, about 6 months ago, it worked fine. Maybe try an older version? Any help is appreciated.

  • HT203180 I downloaded a tv series to my laptop and it plays on the laptop no problem, but won't play on my iPad. The sync process seemed to sync it and the settings section on the iPad suggests the series was there, but there's no icon to select on under

All other tv series that I have purchased via iTunes sync to my iPad no problem.  This one for some reason 'seems' to sync properly (according to the iTunes sync progress bar) and is listed for a short time in the video section under 'settings', but the series icon doesn't appear under 'videos' from the main screen to actually play it.  Then it disappears from the settings section too.  I have tried to redownload direct to the iPad from the 'purchased items' on iTunes but the same problem still occurs?  The series plays fine on my laptop.  Any ideas?!

  • Windows iTunes won't play video from shared libraries

    Hey guys.
There are 4 computers with itunes in my house. I have a MBP and a Mac Mini with 10.6.4. Also, my brothers have 2 PCs with Windows 7.
I store my media on the Mac, but would like to share it with them thru iTunes on the other PCs. So, we all set up library sharing and updated to iTunes on all machines to 10.0.1.
Problem is: The windows PCs can't play any shared video.
Whether it's from Mac or PC, iTunes on the Windows PCs can't stream any videos from any of the other 3 shared libraries. The Macs do it fine from the other sources, Windows PCs don't.
All that being said, the Windows PCs do play video in their own libraries. Just not Shared ones.
As I said, all 4 PCs have the latest OSs, iTunes and QT. Any ideas?

It has to do with how I was transscoding the videos. Handbrake tags the videos in a way that makes it impossible to play in Windows. Retagging with a program like MetaX will solve the issue.
