Installed 8x DVD-+RW Dual Layer CDRW 24x in my mini got a question

Do DVD-rw or DVD+rw 8X DVDs exsist?
IF so where the heck do you find them
Leon

Hi Sargenie,
As far as I know, the DVD+/-RW discs only go up to 4X, but the DVD+/-R go up to 8X. You can find DVD+/-RW discs at Amazon.com. I don't know which ones will work with your drive though.
I hope that helps,
Jon

  • DR4-A and DVD-9 Dual Layer

    Hallo.
I purchased (December 2003) a DVD DR4-A but when I try to read a DVD in format DVD-9 (Dual layer I suppose) I am not able to read it, instead the other DVD media, not Dual layer are readable by DR4-A.
I tried to install my DR4-A in another PC but I obtain the same problem
I am not able not even to browse it from explorer.
If I try that media DVD-9 in another DVD optical I am able to see it.
So I think that the problem is on my DR4-A
I tried to upgrade firmware to 2.50 version but I have the same problem.
I have a PC with Windows XP Pro SP1.
    Can you hel me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mario from Italy

It looks to me that you had bad luck and received a defected drive. I suggest you return the drive to your vendor and ask for replacement - I have the same drive and no problems with any DVDs. Moreover, do not upgrade to firmware 2.50 if you want to use CloneCD - this fw is a piece of  that does not support RAW DAO/SAO modes that are needed by CloneCD (and maybe some other soft) for copying some copy-protected CDs. The latest usable fw is version 2.30.

  • Memorex DVD+R Dual Layer & Power Mac G5

For some reason my G5 want read a Memorex DVD+R Dual Layer disc that my friend burnt for me. I put the disc in, and the computer just spits it back out at me. Is this normal? What can I do? I got my G5 in 2004 can newer G5s read Dual layers? My friend made it on a Power Book so I dont see why I cant read the disc.

Yes, they are relatively new. For more on the history of DVD, see this page:
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
I typically buy double sided DVD-R disks to burn more than 4.7 GB of data. These you flip over when you want more content than can fit on one side of a DVD. Alas you have to split up the content. Depending on the type of content this can be done by segmenting an image, or compressing the data itself and segmenting a compressed file. What's odd is that some disks which appear on the surface to be dual layer because of their single sided capacity, such as the Tiger installation DVD, are in fact readable by all DVD drives that are on Macs, whereas the commercial DVD+R DL is not. I don't know the difference between commercial and consumer grade Dual Layer disks, but there does appear to be one which makes them readable on Commercial grade whereas Consumer is not on older DVD players.

  • Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer 8.5GB Printable Discs - Anyone?

Just wondered if anyone had used Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer 8.5GB Printable Discs or even just DVD+R Dual Layer Discs in their superdrive and whether they had been compatible ok? Im thinking of buying some but want to ensure compatability before i buy because theyre very expensive!
    Cheers

i am burning as we speak, a verbatim dual layer dvd and have had no problem.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the question. You are probably using Verbatim DVD plus sign R DL, whereas Graham is asking about DVD minus sign R DL. Please qavvik, check out that little detail on the discs you are burning and let us know.
Graham's question is actually extremely timely for current iMac users. Anybody know for sure if these new -R DL discs are compatible with the current SuperDrives, such as the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K04L? Did Graham get a bad batch?

  • DVD-R Dual Layer copatability

I've been burning DVD's from i-DVD to DVD+R Dual Layer DVD's for some time without any issues now.
I've just bought some DVD-R Dual Laer disks from Verbatim and my i-mac does'nt even seem to recognise that he DVD is in the drive & spits them out again.
Does anyone know if there's a way to check if my superdrive is compatible with these disks?
    Cheers

  • Correct way to burn DVD-R Dual Layer? Power Mac G5 or MBP Early 2008?

I have several software titles I have purchased and they are on dual layer dvd, I am using Philips DVD-R dual layer, I have a Power Mac G5 and an early 2008 Mac Book Pro, I have been unable to successfully burn a back-up on either drive. I am noticing dual layer seem to be an major problem across the board, but in the past this has been the place I come to get my answers.
    Thank You in advance,

  • Dvd-r dual layer

    Hi all.
Which kind of encore version (if one) is able to burn dvd-r dual layer?
I have to burn dvd-r dual layer to allow the dvd to run on Mac.
Do you know any other possibility to produce a dvd dual layer that is visible also on Mac?
    thanks in advance
    mirko

Since you're starting your search now, CS3 is the only current version, and since it's bundled with Premiere (for CS3), there is not trial. CS2 also handles DL DVDs and does a fine job of it, but it is not directly available, at least not from Adobe, or any of the normal reseller channels. This is just FYI only.

  • DVD SP Dual Layer burning and DVD@ccess difficulties

I'm making my first dual layer project and I can't format from DVD SP 3 b/c I get this error message (see below). I burned the project in toast 6 and the project works fine in Macs except for the URL DVD a@cess link doesn't connect. (It works in my computer) The DVD 2nd layer doesn't work in some PC's. I"m using Verbatim + R DL Media. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Can anyone explain this error message to me:
Formatting was not successful. Layer 1 cannot exceed Layer 0 for a OTP configured disc. Please choose a suitable marker location that will support this condition.

    Hey James
this particular error means that layer 1 is larger (as in size) to layer 0.
since we dont have enough details of your project, i cannot correctly tell you what to do.
i will ask you however, where did you set your layer break? tell us how much larger layer 1 is to layer 0. what will you be burning your image to, DLT, disc, hard drive? did you check the format properties and see where a suitable layer break can be? did you set layer break to automatic?
any help could give you a fast answer

  • Good DVD-r dual layer stock for G5?

    I need non-coaster, dual-layer DVD's. Any recs?
I've got a 2ghz Dual g5 powermac with whatever the stock dvd drive is. I've heard many varying reports of compatible stock. Have had very inconsistent results with DVD-r's over the last few years, and with DVD-r dual layers being so expensive, would love to avoid a costly mistake.
    Thanks!

Verbatim DVD+R DL work well for me, FWIW your computer may not support DL burning to the internal drive so double check which model you have, some of the G% DP 2.0 GHZ could, others could not

  • DVD R DUAL LAYER vs. DOUBLE DENSITY???

What kind of Dual layer / double Density DVD R  works with a mac pro dual to make copy of program back disk 7gig plus in size? i already tried MEMOREX and my drive kept spitting them back out. they were DVD R DL...

The machine in your signature ios NOT a Mca Pro. A Power Mac G5 is totally different.
Memorex discs are likely the worst choice that you can make. Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden are all that I can recommend. Buy slower rated, rather than faster.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
You don't say what optical drive it is that you have. There are variations on what different drives support.
In OS X 10.5x, DVD-R DL is best to use when burning in Finder, etc.
Third party software may have additional support, but eventually, an optical drives firmware is the final determiner in compatibility.
The latest, fastest media will have the WORST compatibility with old drives.

  • DVD Burns Dual Layer gives Scrambled Results & Crashes OSX!

    Hello,
I'm using Disk Utility in Leopard to try and copy a DVD dual layer. The method I use is create DVD Master image using disk util, then burn to Dual Layer disc using Disk Util again. I've tried DL +R and -R from Verbatim, Imation, a No-Name brand, TDK, and the result is all the same - the DVD when played back on a Sony DVD player is all scrambled and jerky. The source DVD is fine.
Also if I try and play the burnt DVD in Leopard DVD Player, the whole MacBook freezes and requires power off to reset it!
    Anybody else seen this before?

    KimonoW wrote:

This could be due to your DVD Player not being able to play DL burned media. Mine places burned SL DVD's no problem, but balks on DL DVD's. Won't even load them. Does the original DVD have DRM enabled on it? If so, then that is most likely the problem. Most movie DVD's have it enabled now a days, and some computer games (like The Sims for example) have it enabled too.

No clue, sounds like a kernel panic. What happens if you try to run the DVD on another machine?

  • Satellite Pro A30: Need compatible DVD 8x dual layer drive

    Hi,
have been researching this for some time now with no result. Are there any 8x dual layer dvd drives that are compatible with the bezel on the a30?
    Cheers, J

Did you take a look into the user manual?

    Matsu****a SR-8177
    Matsu****a UJDA750
    Toshiba SD-C2612
    Toshiba SD-R6112
    Toshiba SD-R2412

  • Can my dv5 1017nr laptop burn DVD + R Dual Layer Disks?

Im just wonder if my laptop can burn  Dual Layer format!

It should be able to do it. Which burning software do you have? I know nero will do a hardware info that will tell you what the drive is capable of burning. Also you can go into device manager and get the identification of the drive and then googe it to see if you can find the specs for the drive. I googled your laptop model and some standard specs on the internet showed you have a DVD-RW DL drive that can also read Blu-Rays. Burning dual layers is a bit difficult. They always want to give out on the jump to the second layer. I make an .iso file of the source disk and burn from that. It seems to work best.

  • DVD with dual layer on Toshiba Satellite L10?

    Hi,
I've bought a Toshiba Satellite L10 recently. How do I know if the DVD burner has got the new dual layer system? It's neither written in the user manual nor on the DVD/ROM drive. There it says: DVD+ReWritable, whereas it says on the DVD I've bought: DVD+R DL. So if there's no "DL" written on my drive does that mean that is does not do dual layer DVDs?
    I hope you can help,
    Sunflower

    Hi,
as far as I know the L10 can have only a CD writer or it has, as Quad says, a DVD Super Multi drive. In your case I think it is the Multi drive, which should be able to use DL.

  • M60-182: Can it read/write DVD-R Dual Layer?

I couldn't find in specs any list of supported types of media, the model of dvd-drive is mat****a dvd-ram uj-840s

According to the drive specifications it should be possible to write on the DVD+R double layer max 2.4x
Usually you should find a information about tested and compatible medias in the user manual which should be preinstalled on your notebook.
