Installed a new hard drive in my Macbook Pro Mid 2009. Now why is my CPU getting so hot?

So I've wanted more space on my computer for sometime now and I figured a 1TB drive would be a nice upgrade from the 320GB that came with my computer. Now the trouble is my CPU is running at high rate, 70 to 90%. Everything is over heating, even when no programs are running. It got to the point where I had to put the old drive back in. The hard drive that my computer came with is a Toshiba MK3265GSXF 320GB SATA/300 5400RPM 8MB 2.5" Hard Drive. The one I want to put into my computer is; Western Digital Blue 1 TB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 5400 RPM, SATA II, 8 MB Cache - WD10JPVT. So as far as I can tell the only really big difference between the two is the storage.
Does anybody have any idea why it would over heat like this? Please help!

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
     1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
         button.
     2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
     3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
     4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
         to the Destination entry field.
     5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
         the Source entry field.
     6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

Is it possible to upgrade the hard drive of my MacBook Pro Mid 2009?

I have a mid 09 MacBook Pro that has 250GB of hard drive space, and I was looking to upgrade it to something around 750GB to maybe even 1 terabyte. I've looked around and I'm afraid of getting the wrong model for my laptop, so is there any place or trusted website that I could go to to purchase this? What would be ideal would be to find something on Amazon I could use. Thanks!

Determine the HDD you want to install and then check for the best price. Amazon is a good source.
Consider a Seagate SSHD (hybrid) which will boot and shut down your MBP much faster than a conventional HDD with only a modest increase in price.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

You should update to the latest version of Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 - you can download it here; however it's still not compatible with iCloud and though you can connect to access your email you cannot access any other of iCloud's facilities.
However some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. I've not tried it: use at your own discretion.

Are you sure you can't upgrade to Lion? It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which you may well have, though it also needs 2GB RAM so you might need to add additional RAM (might not be worth it for what you want). The published specs don't mention 32 or 64 bit. You can buy Lion by ringing the Apple Store at the number at bottom left of this page.

Apple support suggested I reset my password so I did that and still the problem is occuring. Itunes and the app store are working normally on my ipad and iphone. Does anyone know what the problem is. The new disk was installed in France coz I am on holiday there. could there be something I need to change in my settings? If you would like you can your boot your computer into recovery mode using Command+R There you can select re-download it from the internet. You will not have any of your old data on your new computer, but that is because you replaced your hard drive. So if you would like your old data to be there on your new computer I would recommend to back up your old hard drive to Time machine then Boot it into recovery using Command+R and click on restore with Time machine. Once that has completed successfully you not only should have 10.6 But you will also have all of your data from your old computer.

They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

Installing a better Hard Drive in my MacBook Pro

Hey guys,
I'm looking to install a better hard drive into my MacBook Pro (15.4" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz) that I bought last September, and I'm strictly a software guy: I know little to nothing about hardware.
I'm hoping to upgrade from a 120 GB to a 320 and hopefully from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm. Is there any other specifications I need to follow, other than it needs to be a notebook hard drive and it needs to be SATA?

Yeah I'm more of a speed freak, I admit it. 7200 RPM sounds good even sacrificing the size, because I already have an external and intend to get a huge desktop in the next few years. Also, my laptop is much more powerful than any of my computers could ever be upgraded to be.
Also, I talked to my brother who says compared to my 5400 rpm hard drive, a 7200 rpm hard drive will run *significantly hotter* and get *significantly less battery life* (~30 minutes depending). Has anyone here upgraded a 5400 rpm notebook hard drive to a 7200 rpm hard drive before? Can you say anything about these claims?

Any advice of comparison, brand loyalty, or how these specific hard drives will compare when it comes to heating up or battery life would be appreciated (for example, the Hitachi one claims to use less energy and user reviews claim to get better battery life).

New disks Do Not contain Recovery partitions for OSX, your advice is incorrect. Check before you post next time.
The OP's machine may need to be reinstalled from discs rather than recovery, but without knowing the age of the Mac that is a guess.

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

I installed a new hard drive and OS X 10.6 and now I don't have an App Store

I had to install a new hard drive because my previous one failed. I installed the OS X 10.6 disk that came with my laptop and almost everything is back to normal, except that I do not have an App Store and my iTunes will not connect to the iTunes store. What can I do? I updated my software using software updates and nothing has changed. Please help!

App store in added as part of 10.6.6 and later. Make sure you have run all updates. What version of the OS is reported using the menu item " > About this Mac"?

I need some help. I want to install my new hard drive, but I don't have the Mac Os X install disc. I think I lost it. Ordering a new disc is going to take a while and I need this new drive to be installed this weekend to work on some huge project.
Any who, I ran a time machine back up and I was wondering if I run my time machine back up do I need the disc?

I have never booted from a TM backup, but you never know, it may work.
1- Connect it to your computer.
2- Restart holding the "option key". If it does appear on your screen select it and you should be good to go.
3- Backup to your new drive.
Again I have never done it, but it's worth trying.

My optical drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 series is not working all the time.

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2009 series and just recently my optical drive is not working all the time. At times it decides to not spin a disk that has been inserted in the drive. I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and this is one of the very few things i have to distract me from the day to day haul. This is something that just started to happen and its very fustrating since i have limited support for this.

Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.
