Installed a newer version of firefox, now all bookmarks, toolbars etc gone - cannot restart firefox - help!

not sure what details you want here - seems that Firefox is running in safe mode and I can find noway to restart it. viewed some restart download shortcuts and says they are not applicable to the new version.

You should have done a backup of your bookmarks, first.
Depending upon how old a version of Firefox you were using before, you should search your hard drive for a file named '''places.sqlite''' which is the file where Firefox stores bookmarks in modern versions - Firefox 3.0 and later.

  • When installed a new version of firefox my computer crashed. Can I run on the one that is still on my computer?

I installed the new version of firefox, like requested. When went to boot up again, it crashed and I could only boot up on safemode. Then I did not have my printer or sound available either. Also did not have a version to restore to, like I had in the past. A friend told me to go to run and uncheck all startup menu and reboot. I did and here I am with another request to install a new version of firefox. Very afraid it will crash again. I have Windows 7

Please update to Firefox 19. If it crashes, come back here and we will give you information on how to get the crash Id's so we can fix what is making it crash.

After installing a new version of Firefox, I get the error message "The procedure entry point JS_GetOperationLimit could not be located in the dynamic link library js3250.dll" when I try to start firefox. Elsewhere in the forum a complete reinstall is suggested; however, I can't do that because of my company's IT policies. Is there any way to solve this problem WITHOUT a complete reinstall? Thank you!

If you can't reinstall Firefox yourself then you need to contact your IT department and ask them to check the Firefox installation.
It is possible that some files got broken with the latest update.

  • When I attempt to install a new version of firefox, I get an error message saying I do not have sufficient privileges for some of these items. What does this mean, and how can I correct this??

    none.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    *Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • I cannot install the new version of firefox in mi mac os x system. It says that i do not have the permission to do that

i tried to install the newest version of firefox but i couldn't. when i drag the firefox item to the application folder it asks me if i want to replace the previous version, and i click on REPLACE. After doing that i says that operation cannot be completed because i do not have some permissions to do that.

    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program

  • Can I delete older version after installing a newer version of Firefox?

I have other software that when I install a newer version, it runs off the older one but adds to it...meaning I can't uninstall the older one or the new one won't work. Can I uninstall the older versions of Firefox when I install a newer one? I don't like having all this stuff on my computer!!!

Yes, if you have used you computer and feel you have all of the settings and preferences file you need then delete it.

  • I recently installed your new version of firefox but i still cannot see the security settingsfirefox is experiancing a problem will have to close down or how to control viruses etc and as your answer

all i want to know is how can i check for viruses etc using firefox and where can i find the security settings or are you doing that automatically,it has also crashed when i opened a vcl player

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

  • Even when I download and install the new version of firefox, I get the messsage that I don't have the new version.

how do I know if I have the new version installed?

    Hi janeginsburg,
Looking at your system details, you are running the latest version. You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
    about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
    Hopefully this helps

  • Once I installed beta version, it lost all bookmarks. Went back to regular version, now all bookmarks are still gone, keeps no history, and cannot bookmark, what happened?

I installed the beta version, noticed now I had lots of missing bookmarks, so I uninstalled beta. Reinstalled current regular version, now I have zero bookmarks, and it does not keep any kind of history. Will not let me backup and restore the dates of the last saved bookmarks. What happened?

  • I installed the new version of firefox today and when i close all my tabes it doesnot ask me if i want to save them any more . just close or cancel how do i change it back to save all tabes

i use multiple tabs when i use firefox . i want to be able to close the firefox app. like i used to and be able to save the tabs so when i restars firefox it will reopen all the tabs i drive and cannot keep entering all the info on all the tabs i use

One of the changes in Firefox 4: '''''by default''''' Firefox 4 does not display the warning message when closing multiple tabs, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences. • Upon install the new version of Firefox with AOL, a dialog box comes up with no words and firefox is unresponsive

As I try to close, a dialog box suggests that Firefox is waiting for a response. This problem started happening when you added AOL to the install. I already use AOL and I assume there is some sort of conflict. I want a Firefox without AOL. That will likely solve my problem.

I think it is a problem with an AOL add-on.Could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode as a test, and also see whether it can be removed there?
''If Firefox is not running:'' Hold down the Shift key when launching Firefox.
''If Firefox is running and you can access the menu:'' Either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and give Firefox the OK to restart.
''Both Scenarios:'' A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?

Every time I try to check for updates I get this message across my screen.
