Installed BT Home Hub 4 before Openreach engineer ...

Hi,
Kind of worried I've done something I shouldn't, I was so fed up with my BT Home Hub 1 as soon as I got my BT Home Hub 4 in the mail for my infinity service I installed it and connected everything to it.
Then I realised this in my order email:
"Don't plug in any new BT kit. Just keep it handy for when your engineer arrives."
Will the engineer get angry with me? The connection is working without the openreach modem for fibre service, will this screw up my router since there is no openreach box plugged into it?
I guess it can't do any harm as I've just saved the engineer a job, but have I done any harm to my broadband?

So I should keep it plugged in now but just pretend I didn't plug it in when he comes, correct?
I shouldn't think he'd give a monkeys one way or tother. I would just carry on using it.

  • Swap out Home Hub 5 for Openreach Modem at install...

    Hi,
I'm scheduled to get Infinity installed to a new line in January and I'm not keen on using the supplied HH5 as I want to use my Time Capsule to control my network. Have there been any cases whereby the Engineer might be able to supply an Openreach modem on installation and not use the HH5? Or failing this I could do it myself after installation if I get a VDSL modem?
    Thanks in advance!

The Openreach engineer might install an Openreach modem but there is no guarantee because you have the HH5 which as you know has the modem integrated. You would need to ask and if he says no you'll have to accept that.
As far as I am aware there is nothing to stop you removing the HH5 and using your own modem. The only problem would be if you had any problems, BT would not offer any help or support, such as it is, because you are using non BT equipment.

  • How to set up time capsule with BT home hub 4.0 & Openreach

    Idiots guide needed.
My TimeCapsule (year old model) had been running well from my BT Openreach box (without using the Home Hub 4.0) but recently had issues with connection dropping - BT said they've sorted out their end and can't see any remaining issues and can't offer me any more support if I'm not using the Home Hub 4.0
I reset the TC to run straight from the Openreach Box  still have issues with wi-fi dropping in and out (both on ethernet and wi-fi).
    Can I:....
    1)     set up Time Capsule running from BT Home Hub 4.0 which itself runs from BT Openreach white box (thus continuing to get support from BT)
or should i go back to
    2)      Time Capsule running straight from BT Openreach Box
Can some one post an idiots guide to either option?
Other stuff that may be important.
Macbook air running Yosemite (mid 2011 model)
    Apple TV
    Airportexpress
    Time Capsule
    2 x iphone 4s
    Kids PC
Ethernet and wifi for above - I generally run everything hard wired via ethernet.

The easiest and sure way is to use bridge on the TC as the method of connection. The TC then becomes a device in your network and gets its IP from the main router that I presume BT supply.
    Method is,
    1. Plug the TC WAN port into the BT supplied modem by ethernet.
    2. Plug the computer you are using for the setup into the TC by ethernet.
    3. Run the airport utility .. go to internet tab on the top menu..
In the bottom option, Connection Sharing choose off (bridged mode)
    4. Go to the wireless page and setup wireless connection as you like it.. using whichever band you want. And make sure security is set to the highest setting, wpa2 personal. Put in a decent wireless passkey.
    5. Press the update and fix whatever else the TC will show as needing fixing.. usually security stuff.
    6. You can then disconnect the ethernet and connect by wireless if you want. Any port on the TC will now be a LAN port, including WAN.
This is assuming BT supply a wireless router with built in vdsl/other type of modem. If so you normally will not be able to bridge the modem, unless BT are using pppoe authentication which they haven't in the past.
If you really need to use the TC as a router then you will need to work out an alternative method. You can double NAT by placing the TC in the DMZ of the BT router if that is an option. It is not without issues in general.

  • Installing BT Home Hub onto a New PC with Windows ...

    Hello,
I've just bought a new pc with Windows 7 installed.
I've connected my BT Home Hub but it says it can't find the driver. I've downloaded the zip file from your website but it still says it can't find the driver.
I have already got the wireless connection through my laptop which has Vista on it. I attached the USB (blue) and tried installing with the same zip file and it installed fine.
Do I need a different driver for Windows 7???? If not what do I do?
    Thanks
    Clare Chaffey

    welcome to the forum
you do not need the BT cd to use the wireless or ethernet connection.  the suggestions for the cd are bird scarer, frisbee, coaster etc. but not install on pc.  you should use the yellow cable if connecting to the bub and internet will work without any software

  • Installing the home hub software

hi, ive recently signed up to a package with calls  tv and broadband. my activation date isnt for a week or so but i was just wondering how i will be able to install the hub software on my laptop when my equipment arrives as my laptop has no cd rom drive.. im not sure what you have to install as i am new customer and my equipment has not arrived yet i just spotted it said something about a software instalition dvd in one of my emails or letters..
anyone who can shed some light on this for me would be a good help...thanks

You don't need anything on it to get things working.
Ian's quite right. use it as a bird-scarer.
I wouldn't bother with BT Desktop help - I tried it when I was new to the HH and all that and it never helped and just caused trouble. Don't bother with BTYahoo stuff. I don't know about Netprotect because I was already sorted with that sort of protection, so never touched it. I had been a devotee of Symantec/Norton software since about 1990, but finally bit the bullet and removed all traces - not for nothing is it called bloatware.
Fwiw I use AVG free for anti-virus, ZoneAlarm free for a firewall. Have a look at Spybot SearchandDestroy, SpyWareblaster, and Lavasoft's Adaware for malware protection. I use all of these! But for all I know these are all old hat and there might be better ones available.
Whatever you do don't google for malware/spyware protection etc and download and install one that sounds good, because there are many out there that are fake and are full of malware themselves.

  • Home Hub 3/Openreach Modem

    Hi guys
I've recently placed my Infinity order and am currently awaiting for my equipment to be delivered on Tuesday.
I'm wondering if everything's correct as I'm reading on here that I need both the Home Hub AND the Openreach modem? Is this right? The reason I ask is because my account's dispatch note just mentions that the Home Hub has been dispatched with no mention of an Openreach Modem?
If somebody could please clarify then that would be great.

  • After installed Home Hub 5 my wireless speed drop ...

    Hi there.....
I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I got my Home Hub 5 today to replaced my Home hub 3. Once I installed the home hub 5 all my wireless device has dropped to 10mb!
I don"t know what else can I do coz I tried resetting the home hub 5 and change all the setting on the home hub 5 but still only give me 10mb!
    Can anyone please help

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there.............
I have solved the problem why the speed has dropped down to 10 mb on wireless device!
For anyone in the future that upgrade to the home Hub 5 I will like to mention the reason so they know what to do:
Once you installed the home hub 5 , turn it on and add wireless device to it . When you open the browser on your wireless device Bt home hub will pop up the ' parental guide ' page for you to set up . You can set it up or click do not want it then it's will go back to the main web page !
Because some of us who use apple device such as iphone don't use the browers and use the apps so didn't know that .
So once you went through the parental guide page your bt speed on your device will went back to full speed !! All my wireless device went back to normal around 50 mb !!
I hope the above statement will help who ever going to upgrade to home hub 5 soon and will notice why the speed drop so much and what is the reason for it and don't need to mess around with your home hub channel coz just the simple parental guide set up page need to finish the setting !'

  • Experience so far with BT Home Hub 5?

So a few of you have installed the Home Hub 5. Like me, I'm sure a few of us would be interested to hear your experiences with this new piece of kit.

Hi got my homehub 5 on tuesday as a replacement for faulty homehub 3b, looks a good bit of kit, setup easy its now replaced as said hh3b and openreach optical modem, its weird because when i go past it now strange not seeing flashing green lights on the wall where openreach modem was, anyway turned off wps, and BT Wifi-fon and smartwireless changed to manual channel 6 best in area for 2.4ghz and have given 5ghz seperate ssid which is much better for connecting iphone, ipad etc and on 5ghz getting nearly full download speed which is good, its also good that vdsl stats are avalable which shows various things noise, download upload etc, took a bit to get used to having had a 3b for a while the only thing it does not have is powersave mode as had mine set before to powerdown between 12am-7am hh5 does have some kind of powersave mode but different than before, the only thing have noticed is in the event log lots of blocked connections inbound and outbound not sure what they are have posted them in a seperate thread hopefully somebody will be able to shed some light on them, so far very happy with the homehub 5 and its peformance!

  • Cannot find HP printer after upgrade to Home Hub 3...

    Hello
an engineer installed a home hub 3/infinity this morning and left after about 10mins giving me a tiny getting-started booklet, a CD, and a couple of stickers to show my network keys etc. Whilst I can access the internet with my laptop, and iphone, I am tearing my hair out now (8hours later) in trying to print anything!
I am running on Macbook Air MacOS 10.7. My printer is HP deskjet F4580.
My mac cannot see the printer, in System Preferences.
The blue wireless light flashes continuously on the printer.
I have been all over various forums and I just don't have a clue what most of them are talking about.
I have printed out a wireless network test report from the printer and it seems to show the old network name (for my old home hub 2) but if this is the problem I have no idea how to change it. I can't even find the driver menu's any more. And, now i just discovered on an HP thread that there might be an inherent "firmware"(?) issue regarding BT Home Hub 3 and HP printers.
I would appreciate any insights and would be grateful for any step-by-step help, thank you. (so wanting my old home hub 2 back!)

Have a look at this link. It takes you through the set up
    http://www.hp.com/global/us/en/wireless/reconfiguring-system-help3.html
Another option would be to change the new Homehub to have the same name and passkey as your old HH2 then the printer should find it. It would mean logging all your other devices back on once you had done this. See this link how to do that.

  • BT Home Hub connection issue on XBOX 360

I have just upgraded from a BT Home Hub 3, to the BT Home Hub 4, before the upgrade I ran Sky TV wired, and 3PCs wifi, my Ipad and my Iphone. I also ran my XBOX 360 wifi, and a PS3 wifi, all worked no problem.
Now I am on BT Home Hub 4, all my connections are the same all working well apart from the XBOX 360.
I have tried doing the fix on the BT site logging into the Hub changed the SIDD and set the other bit to NO. this did not work.
I then reset the XBOX to factory settings as this was in another fix, I then reset the XBOX to the Hub 4, logged on to call of duty ghosts got half way through a game it crashed out saying no conection reset to test conection.
The Hub will conect to my XBOX 360 but only stay conected for up to 14 mins at most.
Do I need to go back to my BT Home Hub 3, Can any body help its starting to be a pain. As one good person said use a wired conection that would be good, but due to location would be hard. I did think upgrading was ment to make things better not harder. Please Help.

To add, I had on online chat with BT, they said that no problems exist about XBOX 360  and the BT Home Hub to do with wifi.
If this is the case why have a fix on the BT site, that does not work may I add well not on my XBOX.
I found BT online chat not much help in this case.
    Please advise and help

  • TP-Link TL-WA901 & Home Hub 5 connectivity problem

I've just installed a Home Hub 5. Devices connected via Ethernet & Wifi work fine.  My Vista PC connected via a TP-Link switch & a TP-Link TL-WA901ND Wireless Access Point can't web browse successfully.  Firefox says "The page isn't redirecting properly", IE says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - for every site I try.  I can ping my BT hub OK, I can see the PC from the hub & a directly-connected Windows 7 PC, & I can ping external websites.  Any ideas?  I've tried changing all sorts of settings without any luck, Googled, etc, & nothing I've tried has sorted it.  The same PC & browsers work if connected via Ethernet.
Btw, the connection setup is like this as I've had equipment damaged 3 times from lightning surges via my phone line.  The PC connected directly is only temporary until I've resolved the problem.

This is from Keith's help pages. http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/hardware/TP_link/wa701nd/wa701nd.html

  • Home Hub problem

My OS is Windows Prof, SP3.
I have recently installed a Home Hub 3 using an 'Ethernet' connection.
I am unable to configure it, as it will not accept my password.  I have tried many times without success.
I have pressed the wireless key until all the LEDs flash.  Then entered the three sets of numbers while the lights flashed.  Have done this many times.  What am I doing wrong?

sorry but can you explain whay you want to achieve?  is it access to the hub manager when you connect with ethernet cable?  Is it to be able to connect wireless with the hub?  bothe passwords are on the pullout tab on back of HH3

  • Location of Openreach modem and Home Hub (BT Infin...

In my previous property I asked the BT engineer to locate the modem/HH in an upstairs study and this was no problem, no extra cabling required (master socket was in kitchen) all extension sockets still work fine. I moved home and had BT Infinity 2 installed, phone line enabled same day. The house was built in 2007 so has extensions in all the rooms. Looks like the master socket is in the cupboard under the stairs. Although the previous occupier obviously had the openreach modem and home hub located in the lounge, as the mounting screws etc were still there. But here none of the extensions work, the engineer said this is a side effect of moving the master socket. But why was this possible in my previous house?
The engineer installed with the existing screws etc and left it all in the lounge and still none of the extensions work. I'd like my extensions working and the modem/hub located in my upstairs office, how do I arrange for this?

  • Home Hub 3 config for new Infinity install

    Hi all,
Well, I've been with Demon Internet since almost day 1, way back in 1993 IIRC. However as BT have now rolled out Infinity into our village, and I can almost spit on the Infinity cab from my office window, I've decided to jump ship from Demon (bad move perhaps?)
I have quite a big internal network with several NAS, network printers and other stuff, and also use Wifi via an Apple Time Capsule/Airport Router that is connected to a Netgear router in brige mode.
I don't really want to have to fanny about reconfiguring my whole network to a new subnet, and wonder just how 'manageable' the HH3 is? Will the Openreach eng. ensure the router is configured to my requirements or just set it up as default and so long as he has a gateway connection out onto the net will just leave me to it?
Any advice, other than of course telling me that they may actually not bother to turn up at all....!

Thw Home Hub is intended to be a "plug and play" router for residential customers with no technical knowledge.
The engineer will normally go through connecting one computer to the hub to check that the connection works OK.  That's about all.
Compared with more "professional" products, there's an awful lot that can't be tweaked on the HH.  If it matters to you, you may be better off buying your own cable router.

  • Can I install new/different software in home hub 2...

    Hi all,
I want to remove/unassign ports that have been associated with games and application previously used, but unfortunately my home hub 2 (Software version 4.7.5.1.83.3.37 (Type B)) does not provide this function!
Apparently it is a bug in the Type B where once a port is assigned, it can no longer be used / assigned to a new/different application!!! Stooopid!
Does anyone no if it is possible to install new software that would provide this functionality? maybe home hub 3 software? if this is even possible... Or, (this is probably the wrong forum to be posting this in lolol) is there a way to hack the hub 2 to run different software all together, Linksys maybe?
It would probably just be easier to go out and buy a Linksys router lol.. but I like to break things!

I doubt there are any custom firmwares for the homehub. As I've explained it's a consumer grade device which isn't designed to be buggered about with. Also, unless the hardware was identical to another device you can't simply load linksys firmware on to a non linksys device, or netgear firmware on to a non netgear device and so on as they would simply not work.
Grab a Netgear DGN2200 from your local currys/PCWorld or your favourite online retailer. Much less bother.
