Installed Cs4 - can I now uninstall cs2?

I recently installed CS4 upgrade on my laptop and would now like to uninstall the version of CS2 that I have been using.
Will removing CS2 remove any shared files that are necessary for CS4 to work properly?
The reason for removing CS2 is that I am quickly running out of available disk space on drive C.
As a side question,  is it possible to delete CS4 from my laptop and re-install it on my D drive (how wil that affect my activation?)?
Thanks in advance for any and all help

It is not advisable to install Photoshop anywhere but  C:\Program files. Some have done it, but many have had problems.
If you want more space on C:\ move stuff off it and clear out all temp files and other accumulated junk (there is normally a lot!)
Get an external drive for your image files.

No, but it may help the chances of a successful installation.

  • Couldn't install CS4 Master Trial now can't get rid of it.

I was not successful at installing CS4 Master Collection Trial.  I received installation errors for all of the applications on Disk2.  Some form of 1620 error code.  I called support.  Was told that perhaps I had a corrupt disk, so they said they would send a replacement.  They didn't.  So rather than go through the queue again, I felt it was easier to just pony up another $16 and try again.  Same result.
So I gave up and tried to reinstall Acrobat CS3 because Adobe in it's infinite wisdom, chooses to upgrade your Acrobat whenever a new version is introduced to the system.  Problem being that since I couldn't successfully install CS4, I now had a non-working Acrobat.
So I called support again.  (sorry, live-chat).  After fully describing the issue, providing numerous proofs, serial numbers, customer ID's etc. The response came back.  You need to uninstall the full CS3 suite and reinstall.  Fine, I had nothing to do on my weekend.  I could kill 8 hours working on this, so I uninstalled the CS3.  This is of course AFTER I had uninstalled what did install of the CS4.  And you know what?  CS3 install wanted the CS4 disk 1 dozens of times.  Guess the uninstall wasn't so complete after all.
So I got completely frustrated, went out and bought Win7 (Professional 64-bit).  Figured I would do a complete wipe of my system.  Install from "Gold" OS code.  Stupidly I chose to try the CS4 trial.  Figuring on a lark that perhaps now, on virgin territory, that it would in fact install.  No such luck.
So I uninstalled again.  I reinstalled CS3 Web Premium and was successful!! yeah!  But hold on.  I had bought InDesign CS3 separately as it didn't come with Web Premium.  And you know what, InDesign installer wanted the CS4 Disk 1 again.
So I did a web search for a cleanup script for CS4, because I have been through this before with CS3.  I found the cleanup script, and installed it.  I found that there were 4 entries in the install log:
List of products installed on this machine
1   Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection
2   Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium
    3   Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2
    4   Adobe InDesign CS3
So I chose to uninstall InD first.  No problem:
List of products installed on this machine
1   Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection
2   Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium
    3   Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2
I then tried to un-install CS4.  Below are the results:

    Suggestions???

I have the exact same problem, same version of CS, and exact same error details.
In my case, I had CS4 installed and running fine for a couple of months, under Vista Ultimate 64 on a Gateway P-173XL FX laptop. Then my hard drive crashed and I rebuilt it from scratch, reformatting and reinstalling the OS.
CS4 was one of the first apps I tried to reinstall. I had some trouble with it, as the installation kept running into errors:
Adobe Color JA Extra Settings CS4
         Error 1603. Internal error 2203.
         C:\Windows\Installer\33f6ffc.msi   -2147287035
Per advice from this forum, I downloaded and ran the CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility to make sure all vestiges of the failed installation were removed. Tried the installation again, and got:
         Adobe WinSoft Logistics Plugin
         Error 1603.  Internal error 2203.
         C:\Windows\Installer\3833d9c.msi    -2147287035
Same error, different place. Tried again:
Adobe Color NA Recommended Settings CS4
         Error 1603.  Internal error 2203.
         C:\Windows\Installer\3cb0bc.msi    -2147287035
Lather, rinse, repeat. A little different this time:
         Adobe Bridge CS4
         Fatal error during installation.
This time, when I tried to run the CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility prior to another attempt, it failed with the same error that rdhinman reported:
File "CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.py", line 1263, in  RemoveSessionFromCaps
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode  character u'\xe0' in position 163: ordinal not in range(128)
         C:\Users>
Needless to say this is highly frustrating, especially since the installation and operation of CS4 pre-crash was flawless. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

  • Installed CS4, can't uninstall CS3

Hi. I had CS3 installed, and then installed CS4. CS4 seems to be working fine, so now I want to unistall CS3.
Unfortunatley, in Add/Remove programs, there's no uninstaller for CS3! There's one for CS4 though.
How the heck do I uninstall CS3 if there's no uninstaller?
    I have Vista.
    Thanks
    Doug

I understand there isn't a requirement for removal of CS3, I just don't need it any longer.
I don't have an option in Add/Remove for Adobe Creative Suite 3, only CS4.
I suppose in order to clean up, I may have to remove CS4 and then attempt to remove CS3, then reinstall CS4.
I could be asking for more trouble than it's worth though.
Is there an uninstaller out there I can download?

  • ID CS4- Can only open ID CS2 files through ID not by clicking

Running Windows XP and just installed CS4 upgrade from CS2. Love the new look, but now I can't just open CS2 files by double clicking on them. Have tried to right click the file and use "open with CS4 all the time" but that doesn't work either. I always receive the same error message: "xxx.indd is not a valid Win32 application."
The only way to open my old CS2 files is to go through File>open inside of CS4. It's becoming a little annoying... does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it?
    Thank you!

I'm not sure what that is, so I guess not... My computer is on a network at work and the IT department is often skeptical of downloading new programs--- is there a built-in optimizer in Win XP?

  • Installed CS4, Computer died, Now what?

I just installed CS4 Extended on my computer and this morning the hard drive died.  I need to buy a new computer (6 yrs. old ... I know, I should have retired it way sooner), but now am wondering about being able to put the CS4 software on it, since I already installed it one computer.  Can I install it a second time?

Now that you know that hard drives die, you need to buy and USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to DVD or USB hard drive... so you may restore everything to a new drive
I use http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm which has a reasonable cost, creates a boot CD to run, and copies everything to the backup image for easy restore

  • Adobe CS3 Upgrade - Can I Deactivate/Uninstall CS2?

    Hi all,
A handful of months back, our company purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium upgrade package to replace our Adobe Creative Suite 2 package. What I am wondering is whether it is necessary for CS2 to remain activated and installed on my system in order to run CS3 programs, or if I may go ahead and deactivate/uninstall it. Again, this was an upgrade package, not the standalone version.
Also, if it IS possible to deactivate/uninstall CS2 and continue running CS3, can another person within our organization install CS2 then, or would this cause conflict with the copy of CS3 I am running...?
    Thanks so much, in advance.
    --Daniel

You can do what you want but if you have even the slightest thought that
you'll need the older version leave it.
In any event, your CS2 copy is tied to the CS3 since it was used to
upgrade it. You can not transfer or install it on a different machine.

Just want to know if I can uninstall 3.6.14 now that I have installed 4.0b12

Beta software is for testing. There is always the possibility that it will screw up your profile and you will have to delete it.
You should preferably create a separate profile for the beta version. Alternatively backup (copy) your profile so that you can restore it.
If you're sure that Firefox 4 betas are always going to work then you can delete other versions. But I wouldn't.

  • Trouble installing CS4

    *I'm using 32-bit Vista
First, photoshop cCS3 didn't run because apparently the licensing agreement had expired. Dunno how that could've happened, because I'm using the student version. I decided to install CS4 trial for now, that didn't work because I didn't have the right updates. So then I tried going to Programs & Features and entering the activation code again, but I couldn't find CS3 - there was only CS4, which I didn't even completely install.
Now I installed the right updates, and when I try to run the instalation file it goes through the whole instalation process and at the end tells me "These files did not install: Photoshop CS4."
    I don't understand what's wrong, what should I do?

Goto Local Disk C: > Program Files > Adobe. In there, any Adobe software ever installed will be there, weather it works or not. If you find PS CS3 in the folder called "Adobe Photoshop CS3", or "Photoshop CS3", (look for "Photoshop.exe"), try to run it. If you license problems still, i suggest contacting adobe directly through a Case.
About CS4, what were the updates it said you needed? If you have the updates either way, if Photoshop is having a hissy fit about installing, uninstall it complelty, then try to re-install it. It should then work, and you will have CS3 and CS4.
    EDIT:
Ooo just thought of something...if you computer belives that CS3 has an expired license, then you may find that CS4 will refuse to install because of it. I've seen this with other softwear before, as a protection system....but of course can be annoying. So the other way, is to uninstall CS3 aswell, to make sure there are no issues that end. Thats if the application licenses have been programmed that way in the first place.

  • Installed photoshopcc; should I now remove CS6

installed photoshopcc should I now uninstall CS6?    CC runs out of memory very quick after using for a couple of days.  I have used the purge function, no help.  thinking I might as well remove CS6 & it's Bridge function. 32bit 4Max ram

Ah yes, that's right, been awhile since I've worked with a 32 bit system.  My mistake.
Honestly, if CC isn't running well on your system, why not continue using CS6?  Anything in CC you must use?  Or upgrade; worth it in my opinion, but not everyone's.   As to the scratch disk, I'm assuming that's a disk drive?  You're going to get much better performance out of an SSD than dedicated HDD.  And if your OS/Photoshop isn't on an SSD, that's probably the single biggest performance gain per dollar spent you can get.  Makes a significant difference, in my experience.

  • Installing CS2 so I can install cs4 upgrade on windows 7

I just got a new pc has windows 7 pro OS and need to install my adobe CS. I have CS2 with a CS4 upgrade.  As you can probably guess i am having trouble getting the cs to install. I would like to upgrade to cs 5.5 but if I cant get the cs 2 on to upgrade to cs 4 I doubt i can get a cs5.5 upgrade installed!   I have tried installing cs2 a couple times and keep getting the serial number screen.  When I uninstalled it I had to deactivate it so it would seem that it was acttive just unusable. I will try running the cs4 uopgrade in thje AM but was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a waste of my time or is there actually a way to get this installed and working properly.  any help is greatly appreciated.

  • I installed CS4 Web Premium, do I need to uninstall CS2? (I don't have CS3) If so, how?

I thought the installer would just upgrade my existing CS2 apps but after I installed CS4, I saw that all the CS2 apps were still there! Do I need to uninstall them manually? If so, how? Is there any danger in doing that? Or should I uninstall CS4 then uninstall CS2, then reinstall CS4???? Thanks much for any advice/help!

    Karen,
No. This is a full-version upgrade, meaning that it is a complete installation, independent of any past versions installed. Both versions can coexist and can be used.
But if you double-click on a file to launch the application, the most recent version prevails. If you prefer to have the older version default (for the current work session), launch it first, then double-click on the files to work on them.

I had all my software, including my ‘Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium’ removed from my MacPro (OSX 10.10.2) by a Computer technician after I had inadvertently installed some malware.
Now I can’t reinstall my CS4 because the installer software wants me to identify the product from which I am upgrading, but mine isn’t on the list. The old product from which I am upgrading is called ‘Adobe Design Collection’. Furthermore, it has 4 serial numbers (one each for Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Illustrator), not just one, as the installer requires.
I know this can be done, as I have had it working for a long time. Am I doing something wrong now?

Contact support be web chat and have them generate a working temporary serial/ challenge code for the install.
