Installed CS6 trial but still want to open with CS4

I recently installed InDesign CS6 (Windows) as a trial, but I still want InDesign CS4 to be the default for opening documents. However, when I go to the Open As menu, ID CS4 does not appear. When I browse through Program Files and select C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\InDesign.exe, it points me to ID CS6. Which is incredibly annoying, since the program I selected was Definitely not CS6.
So is there a way to force Windows to associate indd files with CS4 instead of CS6 without uninstalling the trial?

You can edit the registry manually (there are directions in some other threads here, if you search), but that will cause trouble when you start working in CS6 since all of the new files will open with "Missing Plugin" errors that cannot be resolved since CS4 can't open files from anything newer.
I open the correct application first, then use File > Open... instead of trying to use a double-click, but you can purchase the Soxy plugin from Rorohiko.com which will intercept the open commands and automatically use the version from which the file was saved if it is installed.

It sounds like an issue of trying to run XI on VISTA. That combination does not work. Info on both the Acrobat full version (including sub-version) and OS would help. It might also be an issue of running 11.0.0 on a system that needs the updates to work.

Also, if you downloaded earlier in the week, make sure you have the 37.0.1 updated that was released on Friday (I think).
If needed, I suggest installing a slightly different way the next time:
    '''Clean Reinstall'''
We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean. As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.
    (1) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 37.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)
    (2) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
    (3) Rename the program folder
    ''(64-bit Windows folder names)''
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox
    ''(32-bit Windows folder names)''
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    to
    C:\Program Files\OldFirefox
    (4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
    Any difference?
Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
    * \OldFirefox\Plugins
    * \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

  • Trying to install on E:, but still wants 648Mb on C: which is full.

I purchased Photoshop elements 8 yesterday and am trying to install.
I have a PC with a 30Gb SSD (C:) as the windows 7 (64bit) system drive and a 1.5Tb (E:) drive for all the applications.
My program files and program files (x86) folders are on E: and registry points to this location, which most installers use.
My 30Gb SSD is close to full with just Windows 7 and a few extras.
So far all other programs I have installed have happily worked using this system installing my E: drive.
Unfortunately not Photoshop Elements 8.  After Selecting the install location as the E: drive, it will not install as it says it still needs 684Mb on my C: drive (which I don't have and cannot get) and also 746Mb on E: which is not a problem as I have plenty of space their.
After 1 hour on the phone to Adobe the only suggetion they have is to make the space on C: drive.  This is frustrating, and surely will become more of an issue as people move to SSD's as their main drive.
So I am hoping someone here may have already found a solution to this problem (though have not found a thread on this issue).
    Thanks,
    Peter.

I have a similar issue with Creative Suite Premium 1.0 install as my OS is on the E drive - it would install and act as if succesful but there was no software installed when it completed.  For some reason it was looking to C and not producing an error when it didn't find it.  As a work around I tried the following and it worked.
    1. Used Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management to make sure my cd rom drive was something other than C: and that no other drives were on C:  (Never change Operating System Drive letter)
    2. Typed Run> cmd.exe to bring up the command prompt.
    3. In the command prompt typed: subst.exe C: E:\
If in doubt about how to use the dos command type subst.exe /?
    4. I then ran the installer and it installed all the files on the virtual C drive (which is really the E drive)
    5. After install finished go back to command prompt and type: subst.exe C: /D
This deletes the virtual "C" drive referencing the E drive.  I did this before running any software.
I have a feeling it automatically mapped everything to the %ProgramFiles% location at the time of the install - but was definately looking for C: to do the initial install - the above tricked it into thinking it was going on C:

I just bought a new macbook pro and my CS6 migrated, but now when I open existing documents, it launches a free trial version. There doesn't appear to be a way to enter my serial number or communicate that I simply have a new computer. HELP! There is no customer support for this. I can't believe what a poor service company Adobe is!!

The problem was that you migrated CS6. Unfortunately, migration doesn't work because it doesn't move all the files.
First, you'll need to use the Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove the components that were installed:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Second, you should install a clean copy of CS6. Here is a link:

  • Just installed CS6, but still have some need for CS4

I just installed CS6. I have a plug in (Lucis filters that don't want to load into CS6, and may not be compatible), so I still want to use my CS4.
If I open images from Bridge CS4, how can I get them to open in Photoshop CS4 instead of CS6?

If you want an ongoing choice (and you're using Windows) you could put shortcuts to each of the two versions of Photoshop.exe on your desktop and drag images to whichever one you want to use.
Keep in mind you can only have one of them running at a time.  If Photoshop CS6 is already open and you drag a file to Photoshop CS4's shortcut, it will still open in Photoshop CS6.

As you probably know the Canon plug-in enables Log & Transfer in FCP7. I'm not sure whether it works with Final Cut Express or not.
Look in Applications>Canon Utilities. I'm running 10.6 as well and that is where it's located on my machine.
    Good luck.

Why not? We can not see you so you have to give us details
Did you run the iPhoto Library upgrader after you installed it - if not backup your iphoto library and go to the utilities folder in your Applications folder and double click on the iphoto library upgrader and RUN i - then launch iphoto 9.6 to complete the upgrade

I've downloaded the entire software(the free trial) but now it wont open. how do I fix this?

You can although did it not also identify a troubleshooting document for you to use?  The package for support option will simply make the installation log available for Adobe employees to review.  If you would like to respond with your token number I would be happy to look at the log file.
Alternately you can follow the directions listed in Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.  This is exactly the same process which I would use to review your installation log.

You should not have to uninstall Premiere Elements 12/12.1 in order to install and run Premiere Elements 13 on the same computer unless your computer is overloaded and the computer resources are compromised. Just use one program at a time.
Can you still use 12/12.1 on this same computer that will not let you use 13?
What specific Window operating system are you using?
Let us go through the usual drill...
    1. Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    2. Are you using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
    3. Did you install the program with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    4. Disable the SLCache Folder found in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder should be the SL Cache Folder that you delete or disable by renaming the Folder
    from SLCache to SLCacheOLD.
    5. Are you running the program as Administrator and is the latest version of QuickTime installed on the same
    computer as Premiere Elements 13?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

    Hey janicem42177174,
Adobe no longer supports the installation and use of Acrobat 6 as it is a very old version which is not compatible with Windows 7.
I would suggest you to please use the latest version of Acrobat i.e. 11.0.10 which is fully compatible with your OS with its enhanced features and functions.
You might download a free 30-day trial version of Acrobat from here:
Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat XI Professional
Let me know how it goes

  • How can I change to location of pictures folder? I want to use a backup hardrive to store my photos and music on but still want to be able to go to the finder and click the photos/music button. How can I do this.

I want to use a backup hardrive to store my photos and music on but still want to be able to go to the finder and click the photos/music button. In windows i would just change the properties of the given library folder. How can I do this in Lion?

Move "~/Pictures", or if just iPhoto pictures, "~/Pictures/iPhoto Library", to the new location.
If you moved iPhoto, open iPhoto with the option key held, like Tony T1 writes. Select "Other Library" and navigate to the new location.
To add the new location to the sidebar in Finder, just drag it onto the sidebar.
Same process for iTunes, or whole music folder.
