Installed Flash Player version displays "x"
I managed to download the 9.0.124.0 version and still can't
watch my videos. However, when I go into control
panel>add/remove programs, the Flash icon displays a red "x" in
the upper right corner. What does that mean?

the link to it is on Troubleshooting Adobe Flash Player for Intel-based Macs, which may be useful too.
the files for FlashPlayer plugin should be in HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/.
if you look in hd/Users/Your-user-name/Library/internet plug-ins/ ; are there any flash files there? If so, try moving them to the desktop after quitting the browsers & try again.
If you could post the crash report for Safari, that may help us help you....

When I install Flash Player version 10.2.152.32, it shows up in the control panel, under Programs and Features but the only thing that shows up is the name and version of the product. On the right hand side, the size of the program in megabites is supposed to be displayed but it isn't for flash player. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and it is a 32 bit operating system and the browser I use is Windows Internet Explorer. Does anyone know why I could be having problems downloading this?
What is the problem you are having? Does Flash Player work? Can you see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?
Flash Player is a browser add-on, not a standalone program, and most likely therefore does not indicate any program size in the Control Panel. -

Command line to detect installed flash player version
Hi All,
Happy New Year to you all.
I have one desktop application (Flash Director/C++) for which I am developing Windows installer script. I am facing some problem developing the installer script regarding installed Flash Player version. When I am running the script, it is overriding the already installed Flash player irrespective of the version.
Is there any command line (for Windows script) to know the version of the Flash player prior to install the installer contained Flash player so that I can check before pushing the installer Flash player?
I would appreciate your quick reply.

Unable to install Flash Player Version 17.0.0.134 in Windows 7 64-bit
"Unable to install Flash Player Version 17.0.0.134 in Windows 7 64-bit" All I get is a Black box "Installing" and nothing happens for hours & hours. I have tried downloading from the archives, an older, working version of Flash Player. Works on many sites. But, not all. ShutterFly is one that advises me to "Download the latest version of Flash Player". To no avail, can not download.

Can't Install Flash Player version 10.1!
I've been trying to install Flash Player 10.1, and having difficulties I never had with previous versions. When I try to install it it comes up with this message: Error 1031: [PATH TO FLASH PLAYER] [WINDOWS ERROR CODE]: The file could not be written due to the lack of permissions.
This ought to be incorrect as I am the admin for my computer, there is no higher permission on my computer than I currently have. I'm using windows vista home premium. I've tried adobe support, but they are bloody useless. Someone please help me! I currently have no flash player because I followed their instructions and uninstalled my previous version.

RallyPallySoemthing is definitely wrong with this file! Let's try a clean uninstall and reinstall:
download the FP uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html and save it to disk;
close all browser windows, then run the downloaded uninstaller;
Is the Flash Player install folder now empty? If not, can you reboot and see if that DLL file has now disappeared? If not, can you try to delete it manually? -
Looking for a way to tell if installed Flash Player version is ESR or not.
We push out latest versions of Flash Player to the enterprise using a patching management suite. Every time a flash patch goes out, it rolls over (and updates) our computers that have a need to run the Flash ESR branch. Is there a registry key or specific file in the file system that indicates that the Flash Player version installed is the ESR branch and not the latest branch?

The way to identify if the version installed is ESR or not is by the major version number, which is '13' at this, whereas the current version is '14'.
The Flash Player files themselves have the version number in the file name. The files are located in \Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash and \Windows\SysWow64\Macromed\Flash (if you have 64-bit OS). On Mac, the version number is in the Flash Player.Plugin Info.plist file.
For registry entries, Flash Player creates the following entries with version number:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayerActiveX > Version
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayerPlugin > Version
If on 64-bit OS, additional entries are created in the Wow64Node for the 32-bit player version (since both 32- and 64-bit versions of Flash Player are installed on 64-bit OS).

Incorrect recognition of installed flash player version

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
I have bought a new mobile phone and I am simply trying to look at the software that came on the CD with it on my pc. When the CD autorun's I get a message saying Adobe Flash player version 8.0 or later is required. I have installed the latest version (11.xxx) for the three browsers I have on my pc (IE, Opera, Firefox) but I still get the same message. Interestingly when I went to the "About Flash Player" page on the Adobe site it recognises I have version 11.xxx in each of the browsers, however when I tried to register for this forum using IE it said I needed version 6,0,65,0 or higher - meaning it had not recognised I have version 11.xxx installed?! So one part of the Adobe site recognises I have version 11, another part doesn't?! (I registered fine using Opera). I have a feeling (just a guess!) that the software on the CD is trying to use IE.
So please can you help? Why is the correct version not being recognised? Where do browsers etc. interrogate my pc to determine what version of flash player is installed? Any advice on how I can get this resolved? What should have taken a minute has already taken hours of uninstalling and re-installing several times with no success.

Can't install Flash Player version 11
Tried to perform a clean install of flash player ver 11. Ran uninstaller, rebooted system, deleted C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash folder. Did not find any appdata.
Downloaded version 11 from adobe site and I still get message that I need latest version of flash player when I attempt to open video on website.
Running Vista premium, version 6.0.6002 SP 2 - IE 9.0.8

I've been trying to install Adobe Flash Player 11.7. on my Mac for months. Finally, today I decided to "take the bull by the horns" and have spent several hours trying to get to the bottom of the problem -- to no avail. I've followed every support directive on Google, on Mac Support, and on Adobe Support and Forums (so difficult to use, by the way). Now my computer has NO Flash Player; I've uninstalled it as directed in one step of the process.

Archived flash player version with Win 8.1
I'm using Firefox version 37.0.1 and Win 8.1 and am having some difficulty with installing a version of flash player that is not the most recent version. I currently have flash player 17.0.0.134 installed and have lost some functionality with extensions which is why I wish to use an older version. When I use the flash player uninstaller and use the 'Check Now' button on https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html I am told that there is no version of flash player installed, however, when I try to install flash player version 16.0.0.35 from the flash archives I get the message "This version of flash player is older than the version currently installed" and the installation process halts. Is there a way to find which version of flash player were previously installed and use the corresponding uninstallers? Is there an additional step to uninstalling flash player for Win 8.1? I'd really like to be able to roll back to the previous version please. Thank you.
It doesn't make a lot of sense that a Flash Player upgrade would affect a third-party Firefox extension. There's no way for other plugins to hook into Flash unless you've disabled ProtectedMode (which is also a bad idea from a security perspective), and we don't hook into other plugins. I'm wondering if maybe some internal Firefox configuration files might have been corrupted.
Are you running the right installer when you download the Archives? There's an ActiveX installer for Internet Explorer, and an NPAPI plug-in installer for Firefox.
If you need to run an older version, you're way better off using the Extended Support Release. It's an old feature branch, but with all the security fixes between now and then. We updated it in parallel with our current release.
Just scroll down to the Extended Support Release section and choose the second row - EXE installer for plug-in based browsers:

Once you've run that installer, if you still don't see Flash Player, then my guess there's either a bad registry entry or Firefox config file in play.
It won't do a lot of good trying to fix it if the filesystem is in a wonky state, so it's worth ruling that out first:
Caveat: Sometimes corrupted software is an early indicator that your disk is going bad. It's wise to ensure that you have current working backups, especially if you have anything important on the machine. Checking the disk for problems is a relatively safe operation, but will also give the disk a workout. If it's on it's way out, you may not get a lot of additional warning.

At that point, if you identified problems and fixed them, but things still don't work, it's time to uninstall both Flash Player and Firefox and reinstall from pristine sources.

How to get latest flash player version from javascript code

I want to know the latest flash player version number programmatically to compare with currently installed flash player version.
I have requirement in which i need to show message to user when installed flash player version < latest flash player version.
there is no API offlash player available which we can call to get the latest flash player version.
We tried to do webscrapping of adobe site which prints version number but we need to do this from javascript.
Is there any way through which we can come to know wether our installed flash player version is older than latest flash player released version?

DhwaniIt's in the Global Settings Manager in the Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac), but I'm unaware of a javascript you can create to do this independent of a Flash container.
The best you can do would be to create a web page with the expressInstall.swf and swfobject_modified.js added to a Flash container in the page. While that won't give a detailed (installed vs new) indication, it WILL prompt for an update if the current version is higher than the installed version.
You'd then have to add the webpage to startup items, so the end user would see it on login. -

I tried installing Flash Player version 11.7.700.169 in XP and got a script error. I checked my system setting and found scripting to be enabled. I tried completely uninstalling Flash Player and reinstalling but got the same result. Have no idea what I can do to resolve this. Can anybody help.
