Installed iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.1 - now programs keep crashing

Hi,
I installed the firmware update as recommended by apple and now I find that most programs crash on a regular basis. In particular, MS Office (Had this installed before the firmware and it worked perfectly) and iTunes.
Can I back out the firmware update?

1) Quit all applications
2) Click Shut Down in the iMac EFI Firmware update window and wait for your computer to shut down
3)Press and hold the power button until you hear a long tone,then release the power button
A status bar indicates the progress of the update
Important: Do not interrupt the update
Your computer restarts automatically when the update is completed and opens the iMac EFI Firmware update.
Click OK if the firmware is up to date
If these instructiona appear on your screen again repeat steps 2,3 and 4

My iMac 2011 21" Maverick cannot install iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.9

My iMac 21" mid 2011 2.8GHz Ci& 16Gb OSX 10.9.1 has started to run 'hot'. Even then freshly rebooted, the top left hand side of the computer (with the screen facing you) gets rather warm (very hot if you actually use the computer). I beleive this to be the location where power supply is located.
I have tried:
1) resetting the SMC (shutting down and removing the power cable - over night).
2) resetting PRAM
3) vacuuming out the vents to remove possible 'fluff' and dust.
4) threatening it with a hammer...
None of these actions has worked.
I rummaged about on the support forums and notice that there are a few firmware updates that might be worth installing - just to remove firmware bugs as a potential contributing factor. The available updates were - my iMac is running SMC version 1.71f22 and there is a 1.9 version, and an upgrade to the Radeon 6770M graphics Firmware to 3.0.
However the requirements on the web site http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1498 state that I need to be running Lion... I have mavericks installed and the installer alerts with "This software is not supported on your system" when I am cheeky enough to try installing the firmware.
Can anyone please adivse on how to install these firmware updates - without having to downgrade to Lion?

I have just checked the MBA (and an old MBP) and they both have the right versions.
e.g.
MBA
Boot ROM Version:          MBA61.0099.B04
SMC Version (system):          2.13f7
And the MBP 7,1 Mid 2010 (pimped a bit with 8Gb Ram and a SSD)
Boot ROM Version:          MBP71.0039.B0E
SMC Version (system):          1.62f7
So everything looks sweet! Silly me for thinking that Apple had over looked this.

Can't install IMAC EFI Firmware Update 1.2

I have been trying to installs this update, but after downloading it and following the instructions, when I shut the computer down, I receive a message that say: "An unexpected error occurred (0). your firmware can not be updated."
Can somebody give an idea how to solve this issue, please.

Late 2011 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion with app: "iMac EFI Firmware update"

I have an app on my MacBook Pro late 2011 model, by the name "iMac EFI Firmware update" that my computer says is useless... can I uninstall it using CleanMyMac without corrupting my OS Mountain Lion or simply dragging it to the garbage?

You can delete it. Just drag it to the Trash and this installer will be removed. As you have already installed this update, you don't need the installer anymore on the hard drive

Installing MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.0

Hi everyone, I'm trying to install MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.0 on my macbook so i can use bootcamp, but when I launch the update it says I don't need to update my mac even if my version of boot rom is MB11.0061.B02 and this will install MB11.0061.B03.
Hope someone could help me.

I can't find anything conclusive regarding the problem that you and speddish are having. The only thing that had come to mind was 10.4.10 - and perhaps the update thinking that (as apparently some third party apps have) that the OS was actually 10.4.1. and not 10.4.6 or higher (as required). Logically though, I would assume that, if it were the case, the updater would make mention of it.
The only thing that I can think of (and it's a bit of a pain) is to downgrade to a previous version such as 10.4.9 and try again. I'll keep looking...

Installing iMac G3 Firmware Update 1.2 on Mac OS X

I own an iMac G3 Rev. D (333 MHz). It's currently running Mac OS X 10.3.9. At first, I tried to downgrade to Mac OS 9, with no success. Eventually, I found out that the iMac wouldn't react to any startup keyboard commands (just like C, Option, PRAM reset and so on). Probably, the pre-owner password protected the Open Firmware.
I downloaded the Open Firmware Password Utility, but after installing it told me my firmware wasn't the latest version. I tried to install Firmware 1.2, but alas! this, in turn, is only possible under Mac OS Classic.
However, as long as I can't boot from CD, I can't install OS 9. It wouldn't even run the Classic mode.
Is there any possibilty to upgrade to Firmware 1.2 under Mac OS X Panther?

If you are running Panther, you already have that firmware update. No iMac PowerPC can run 10.2 or later without the most current firmware on their system.

Trouble installing iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0

hey guys im having trouble with my imac 27in running on mac os x 10.4.11 ati radeon 2600 tiger... My screen started to washout as many imacs have since so i been trying to fix it i found the firmware graphics update but more some reason when i try to install it says" i cannot install computer dosent need update" but my screen is barely visible any suggestions?? thank you

If you have a newer 27" model, then neither Tiger, Leopard or earlier version of Snow will run on it?

If it has an ATI Radeon 2600 graphic's chip, then it is most likely a 24" Late 2006 white Intel iMac.

If you are told that the update is not needed, then either the update is not for that iMac or it has already been updated.
As for the screen problem, it would help if you can describe in detail exactly what it looks like?
Is it faded, does it have lines, is the color off, or what?
I would first, go to Apple > System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing and in the Display: section make sure that the Enhance contrast: is set to Normal.
Then next, go to Apple > System Preference > Displays > Color and select a different Display Color Profile.

I updated everything on my computer last night and since then, all of my programs are crashing as soon as I open them. Safari, iTunes, even the Sims 3 and my dashboard. I ran a virus scan and it says there isn't a virus on my computer. And I tried restarting the computer. Has anyone had a similar problem after the update or know what I can do?

Paste this into your Terminal program and press enter, paste the results here

Turn off IPv6 in your System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP
Reboot and see which of/if those steps help any.

Applied latest update to iTunes, now it keeps crashing. How can I fix? Windows 8, 64 bit

Downloaded and installed latest iTunes update today (21 Sept 2013), and now iTunes won't stay open more than 30 seconds without crashing. Done multiple PC restarts, can't seem to correct. Anyone know how to fix this? What a pain in the @ss

HT1237 Searching for an EFI Firmware update to enable Lion Internet Recovery on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)

Hi All,
My Mid-2010 Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch started having random kernel panics lately (more than 1 month of random kernel panics now), usually associated with request such as "open new tab in Safari" etc.
Since I installed 2x4GB RAM modules from Crucial when I bought my MBP (they are +- 2 years old now) and also exchanged my DVD-drive for an extra SSD that now runs the system (fully updated 10.7.4) I have a feeling that those kernel panics might be HW related.
I wanted to run Apple Hardware Test but found out that it is no longer supported on Lion. Since I don't have any optical drive to install AHT from (also I don't have the CDs with me atm), I found out that I can install an EFI Firmware update that enables internet-based (?) AHT.
At http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904# , the link from MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) links to MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.6 which is for Early 2010 models only and doesn't allow me to run the installation process. I'm looking for an EFI update to enable Apple Hardware Test on my Mid-2010 Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch.
Is there an update that can do this? Is there a wrong hyperlink on Apple page or am I searching for a wrong update?
Also, even though this should probably be in a separate topic, can anyone please point me to the right direction for a good Apple Kernel Panic how-to-read-those topic?

Hey folks, I've done a search of the forums but to no avail. A Google search has turned up precisely nothing like what I'm experiencing here. I have no idea if it's normal or if my wee 'Book's playing up.
Basically, in checking my RSS feeds, I was informed of the release of a new firmware update for C2D MacBooks, available via Software Update. I ran Software Update and... nothing. I decided I'd check in Apps/Utilities and use the EFI Updater to manually update my computer's firmware, but the utility seems to be missing altogether. Anyone else experienced this, or have any idea what's going on? It used to be there, and I can't really think of anything that might have made if go 'poof!'
I realise this isn't exactly a major issue, but I can't say I'm at ease with the disappearance of bits and bobs from my Mac.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well if it's any consolation Leopard seems to have thrown over the generic EFI Updater that used to fly standby on my MacBook, but apparently left a new one or left the newer one that may well have been abandoned on my iMac after that rather disconcerting task was deemed necessary a few months prior.
Seems that the updater app comes with the new image whenever and however the time to update becomes a pressing concern so maybe space saving has something to do with the policy.

So joyful I was at the thrill of being ahead of the line I I dropped everything, downloaded and installed it, but only to be politely informed that my unit was lacking any of the discomforts it was intended to relieve. It's nice to get something for nothing but I kind of wish I could say the same :P

EFI Firmware update kills Airport

I just installed the EFI firmware update w/o trouble. However, upon reboot I noticed the airport was gone from the menu bar. I booted Safari and got "not connected."
I then opened the network sys pref's and when I try to connect I get "No Airport Hardware Found."
Under System Profiler I see "No info found" under the airport tab.
Any help? Thanks!

Called Applecare. Always polite and helpful. Found solution to this airport problem.Here are the steps:
Turn off your mac.
Take off your battery, disconnect the power cord.
Then press the power button for 5 seconds.
Replace battery and power cord and restart your mac.
Now airport should be back. Hope it helps as it helped me

EFI Firmware update 1.4 was not successful, no progress bar

I have a MacBook Pro 2.16 Core 2 (MBP22.00A5.B02). Software update prompts me to download and update the Firmware 1.4 udpate. After following the instructuions, shutting down the computer, and restarting holding down the power button, I hear the beeps but nothing comes up but a blank (grey/white) screen. After several minutes (like 10) it restarts and the updater returns and shows not successful.
I tried to archived and reinstalled the OS with no luck
I have a 160GB Hitachi HD that came as ordered when I bought the computer new.
I have verified that the HD is GUID partition scheme
Only upgrade I have done is an extra 1GB stick of samsung original memory from OWC
I was hoping the firmware update might help cool down (and quiet down) this noisy "pro" laptop, but no luck. Please help someone.

I installed the EFI Firmware update successfully on my computer.
It seems to me that your list of nvram is lacking an entry telling your bootloader (boor.efi) exists on your normal harddrive partition.
I suggest the following (i am not quite sure if it will work):
1. Go to the system preferences and select the startdisk fane. Then, be sure to select your system harddrive.
2. Then restart your computer.
3. Make a restore CD in case something goes wrong (instructions at: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd14.html )
4. Try the firmware update again.
When i type nvram i get the following contents:

The first entry is referring to the normal system partition where the loader for the Mac OS resides. The second entry is referring to the hidden EFI partition on the harddrive and the new EFI firmware image.

IMac SMC Firmware Update 1.1 will not load. Help!

I have just purchased an iMac with a Fusion drive. The App Store tells me to install "iMac SMC Firmware Update 1.1." I have tried to do so several times, leaving the computer alone until it restarts itself. But the update does not seem to have taken place: the udate is listed among the updates accomplished, but it continues to appear at the top of the screen as the available update and the badge for an update still appears in the App Store icon.
Any suggestions? Is that a faulty upgrade? Have I got an faulty Mac?

But isn't the Fusion drive in part a flash drive?
And if I don't need it, how do I dismiss it? Will my App Store Icon forever have a red badge telling me I have an unneeded update to install?

EFI Firmware update 1.4 - Mac does not shut down

I am trying to install the EFI Firmware update 1.4 on my Macbook. The initial steps load correctly but when it is time to shut down the computer via the EFI update software, I keep getting the message that the laptop needs to be plugged in to a power source (which it already is). When I click ok, it just continues to repeat the message.
I cannot get past this stage to continue with loading the update. Does anyone know how to bypass this? Many thanks.

I've had issues similar to this, but not exactly. For me it was that the computer would never shut down, i left if over night one time and it kept going. try booting off the disk and checking your disk integrity and repairing permissions. That's what fixed my problem.
