Installed iTunes 10 - now iPod is no longer recognized

I have tried for the last 4+ hours to get my iPod to work with iTunes 10 but to no avail. I am SO SORRY I downloaded this buggy program! I never had a problem before installing iTunes 10 now I'm stuck. I've tried uninstalling it and installing older versions but I keep getting an error message each time saying I can't open iTunes because it was installed with a newer version. I don't understand it. I uninstalled iTunes 10 but it is like it is still on my computer - keeping any older versions of iTunes to run. I also get an error message each time I reboot telling me that a synch file is missing from iTunes. Uninstalling and re-installing the newest version doesn't work either. Neither does running a 'repair' program. I guess until Apple offers a patch or they fix iTunes 10 I won't be using iTunes. Please be warned - iTunes 10 is full of problems. I would stay away from it until Apple decides to fix it.

Additional information:
The program iTunes is not started at this moment.
When I connect my iPod Nano 5e Gen to the USB-port of my computer with Windows XP. The ipod is recognised by Windows XP as an drive within the explorer/my conputer.
Then after a while iTunes starts and gives the message that the iPod can't be identified. And the iPod has disappeared from the explorer as an drive !! Further I can't get with my iPod in iTunes. What goes wrong?

  • Installed itunes - usb flash drive no longer recognized

    hi,
I installed itunes, loaded up the ipod with music, and now my computer will no longer read the files off my usb flash drive. the computer sees the "mass storage device" when I plug my drive in, but the volume/files are not coming up.
    any suggestions?
    thank you!

Are you sure the files are still on your Flash drive.? Can you locate them in a folder on you flash drive just by going to the iTunes\iTunes Music folder and viewing the array of folders? If they are there, go back to the iTunes icon on the desktop, bring up the list of tunes, highlight them all, delete them, and go back to the Flash drive, highlight all the folders, drag them over to your blank iTunes screen and drop them. You won't get any indication anything is happening right away but they are reloading. For some reason iTunes cannot update itself with the correct pathways.
    Hope this helps, Dave.

  • My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes.

    Hi There,
The title actually says it all..
(My 4th Generation click wheel 40 GB iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes 7.4.2, although the iPod works fine.. iTunes keeps saying to reset it, but I don't see why I should)
The iPod seems to work just fine, so I'm not in a big hurry to erase all my songs audio books etc..
I am thinking that this is a problem with Macintosh iTunes version 7.4.2, from what I'm seeing, but how should I proceed?
    Many thanks for any help.
    Eric

Sounds like a dead battery. Take it into your local Apple store/Genius bar and see if there is anything they can do for you.  Another option is to send it in to a third party repair company who can replace the battery at a pretty low cost.

  • TS2776 After installing iTunes 11, we can no longer sync our iPhone and iPad devices with Outlook 2007 or 2010.  We are trying to install iTunes 10 to replace iTunes 11. Anyone have a fix for this?

Since installing itunes 11, we can no longer sync to our Outlook 2007 and 2010 calendars (there may be other Outlook files included in this syncing problem). Using the iCloud is not an option as it does not support Vista OS.  We are trying to reinstall iTunes 10.7, however; that is not going particularly well, either. Does anyone have a proven solution for this mess?

FYI: It seems it was a network problem with my WinXP PC. After complete deletion and new installation of XP and iTunes my iPhone will be recognized correctly, Wifi synchronization works (mostly) fine.

  • I recently installed itunes update and can no longer connect to network nor internet

I recently (sept 2013) installed itunes update and can no longer connect to a network nor internet wired /wireless. I know it is not the gateway as other devices work. Please help. I am not very knowledgable so exact instructions will be most helpful.

Try connecting your computer/laptop directly to the base station with an ethernet cable to one of the external ports and install your network settings. If it finds it there, it will find it after you've reloaded your network info to the base via the Apple Utility. Hopefully when you disconnect afterward, all will be fine. Be sure not to select "closed" network although Macs will login with no prolem, PC's have trouble doing so even with the network data stored in the internet settings.
    Good luck!

ive brought a new laptop and re-installed itunes now i carnt drag and drop my music onto my iphone i just get a red circle with a line in it and its not transfring on to my iphone can anyone help please

You will have to sync your iphone to this computer first, erasing the current content and replacing wioth content from the new computer.
Make sure you have copied everything from the old comptuer to the new one first.

  • My ipods are no longer recognized after I installed my Iphone I have 2 ipods that I have music on and still want to use them so how do I get the computer to recognize the ipods again?

I recently got an Iphone and after I installed it on my computer my 2 ipods are no longer able to sync to the computer how do I get the computer to recognize the 2 different ipods so I can still use them?

Since you already had two iPod before getting the iPhone, what exactly did you need to "install" to use the iPhone?  Doesn't it use to the same iTunes installation you already used with the iPods?
So, I guess my question is, what changed on the computer when you started using the iPhone?
What happens now when you connect the iPod?  Is the iPod still seen in Windows device manager?

  • IPod Photo no longer recognized by iTunes 10

I do not know how long ago my iPod Photo stopped being recognized by iTunes. It is certainly an old iPod that I occasionally use to record voice for podcast.
Today, I noticed that this iPod Photo no longer shows up in iTunes 10. I connected it to two Mac's; one is a G5 tower running OS 10.5.8 and the other is a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.1.
My current objective is to get the voice file off of this iPod Photo. But, of course, it will be nice to have access to it in iTunes 10.
    Please advise.

    Hello Profinite,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not sure as to why this happening, other than the fact that is probably related to the new iTunes 10. Have you try any of the basics yet? Since the iPod does not appear on either system, the cause could be the cable you are using to connect it with. If at all possible, try using a different cable. I would also try different USB ports on each computer as well. What happens when you reset it with it still connected to either Mac?
Another possible solution to at least get it mounted as drive on one of your systems is to place the iPod into *Disk Mode* as described in this Apple support document.

All my apple products, iphones, ipad work and are recognized by itunes but with updates the ipod touch is no longer recognized. Followed what instructions I could get through apple but still cannot resolve problem

    See

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port

  • ITunes 8.1.1 no longer recognizing either of my iPod Touch 2g devices

Okay, no idea what I did or what changes have occurred but today iTunes 8.1.1 stopped seeing my iPod Touch 16GB 2g. I rebooted the Mac. I rebooted the iPod Touch. I tried connecting my iPod Touch to my wife's Windows computer… where it was recognized correctly. Later, after hard resetting my iPod Touch to factory default (knowing my back up was a week old, should have created a new account on the Windows machine and backed everything up but didn't think to do that) and trying it again on my Mac to no avail I got the idea to try to connect my wife's iPod Touch 2g to my Mac. It wasn't recognized at all. iTunes didn’t see a thing. I tried different iPod cables. I tried using a different USB port on my Mac. I tried that while having no other USB devices plugged in.
I tried deleting iTunes and the two files in \System\Library\Extensions and \Library\Receipts that I read about in some support option here on the Apple website. Rebooted. Re-installed iTunes 8.1.1... nothing. For either iPod. Rebooted. Nothing. Tried both iPods on my wife's Windows computer… it sees each fine.
It appears to be an issue with my Mac Pro and not iTunes or either of my iPod Touch devices but I figured my question belonged here anyway. I've put hours into trying to figure this out and I'm at a dead end. What the heck else can I try with my Mac?

No, I checked after reading your reply and none of my other USB devices work. I tried booting from the installation DVD while holding 'd' a few times and finally noticed that it's the Application Installation disc that is supposed to be used for that. So I tried booting with that disc in and holding 'd' and it never would go into hardware diagnostics. I tried four or five times. Holding 'd' before turning on my system until I saw the regular log in screen. Booting then holding 'd' down. Over and over.
I'm not sure what the heck is wrong with that. I am using a Mac keyboard and mouse with the system so it should work.
