Installed iTunes 7.6 and my DVD Drive disappears

I noticed that since I installed the newest version of iTunes on windows vista my DVD player is no longer present. I realized this through a series of trial and error. Originally I noticed my DVD drive was not responding and could not figure out why. Had HP tech support fix the problem by removing a damaged registry key. But later when I went to iTunes it caused an error in iTunes. When I reinstalled iTunes the DVD drive went missing again. Is there a setting or fix that can correct both problems so that one doesnt keep affecting the other.

Join the club, No there isn't a fix. I have noticed on my Laptop running Vista that the DVD drive doesn't disappear until after you reboot after installing iTunes. So here is my work arounds / First I download all my music then uninstall iTunes - reboot - let the DVD drive return - then reinstall iTunes and burn my CD's before I reboot.
Also a 2nd fix I use is I have another computer on my home network running Windows XP that I network too, it doens't have any DVD issues running iTunes so I just link to my Laptop and burn from that computer.
But the only true fix is give up and use Napster...

  • Is there a way to have iTunes installed on Windows 7 without the dvd drive disappearing?

I currently have iTunes version 11.0.2.26 installed on my Dell Inspiron 518 desktop but my dvd drive no longer works.  I understand that I can delete the Upper/Lower filters if I go into 'regedit', but is there a way to have both my dvd drive and iTunes fully functional?

  • Help! iTunes makes my DVD drive disappear

I installed iTunes version 7.6 and my DVD drive disappeared when I re-
booted my pc. At first I was able to restore to an earlier point and
my DVD drive re-appeared. When I tried to re-install iTunes, again the
DVD drive disappeared and I was unable to restore at all. The only way
I was able to restore my DVD drive was to restore my pc back to
factory settings. I have since tried an earlier version of iTunes (Version 7) with
exactly the same results as version 7.6. I have a 80GB iPod classic and I'm using XP. Can anyone help me install iTunes without losing hardware?

I have exactly the same problem. there are loads of others the same and some have advised to get a really old version of itunes and others have had to down load new drivers. I as of yet have been unable to resolve the issue yet I know others with Vista who can run new itunes with no problems. How frustrating!!! try looking through the archives on this support page for plenty of ideas on how to resolve it.

  • Install iTunes 7.6, and loose my DVD Drive after it.

I run: Windows Vista Ultimate PRE-SP1. Lite-ON Blu-Ray DVD Player.
I install iTunes v7.6 and get the following after reboot:
"Warning! iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CD's you need to reinstall iTunes."
My DVD drive is no longer recognized by my computer. Windows Hardware says there is a driver error. Re-installation of these Drivers results in same error. Upon removal of iTunes the error magicly dissapears and there is my DVD drive again.
Please Tell me someone knows of a hotfix for this issue! I am missing my iTunes.

No this is an Apple issue. I ran out and bought 4 Mac's laptops last year when I had to buy a "Vista" computer.
Because of my business I have to use PC (software). since I purchased Vista I was unable to use my 3 video pods (my kids and mine). itunes did exactly what you are discribing here. I totally blamed microsoft..
HOWEVER after downloading service pack 1 and purchasing a new iphone 3G it was working like a charm ....NOT a problem. I used "mobile me" to sync my outlook and was happier than I had been in over a year with BOTH my PC and Mac.
After the upgrade last week (I upgraded 8-1-08) my PC sees the CD/DVD drive however itunes is disabling it. I have a ton of software on my PC Office ultimate 07, Photoshop 6 Roxio 10 all of it. NONE of those had updates.
I am NOT happy with the thousands that I have placed into apple the last 6 months. I really thought this was Microsoft...it is not.
I am lucky because I have a Mac Pro to sync my iphone too (even though I am NOT proficent on a Mac yet). I actually signed onto these boards to see if I could run it on Mac since I installed it on PC..
I tried to see if I would downgrade to the previous version ...no luck...apple likes to install as soon as you boot up...I also tried to restore to a previous time (prior to the upgrade) that also didn't work..itunes again downloaded immediatly after a reboot.
Apple needs to get a fix...I was going to automate a business with MACs...I have my kids on both now..I have an appointment with their business sales..
I think I will bring this computer in and tell them we will talk AFTER you fix this simple problem.. I would HATE to lose patients medical records because of a bad download.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • SATA DVD Drive disappeared after Install HELP!

I installed Snow Leopard using my second DVD drive in my Mac Pro. After install I tried ejecting the install DVD and it dissapeared but didn't eject the disk... that DVD drive is no longer recognized — I can't option+eject to get it to eject, when I do this it comes up with the Shutdown computer dialogue. "About this Mac" lists the drive as present under the Serial-ATA list, Toast doesn't recognize the disk. Any suggestions apart from paperclip?
    Thanks,
    John

Reboot and hold "option." In the boot menu, do you see the DVD? If so, try to eject it with the eject key.
If not, it sounds like something is wrong with the drive. The next thing would be to use the paperclip to get the disc out, and then troubleshoot the drive.

I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

  • I installed itunes 10.5 and now it will not recognize my phone-

I installed itunes 10.5 last week and now when I plug in my iPhone it will not recognize it.  I've gone through all the recommended troubleshooting through Apple's site but it seems to make my computer worse.  I re-installed itunes 3 times and it still will not find my phone when I plug it in.  When I go to my device manager my "Apply Mobile Device USB Driver" has the little Yellow Triangle with the exclamation point it in- I checked for and updated driver but it says I have the most current one.  I am running Windows Vista and itunes was working fine before I took the upgrade.  Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!

I spent last week looking for a solution to that little yellow "!" needle haystack....
It is probably buried where nothing can touch or change it other than what I resorted to and would have saved time, clean install after I made sure to have two backup sets: Windows Easy Transfer plus Paragon clone OS and partitions to drive. Had to spend a full day reinstalling, updates, etc. Careful not to bring back any prefs or data that might be corrupt or wrong.
10.5 and iOS 5 on new iPod 4G works much better though and as they should and no issues like I had with AMS or other services or needing to restart first before launching iTunes.

  • Installing itunes 7.6 and quicktime

help - I have repeatedly tried to install itunes 7.6 and quicktime both individually and together. I repeatedly get an error message which says 'error creating directory QTsystem\Quicktime3GPP.Resources\ja.lproj' - I then get ererr 2330 and then I only get an option to quit the installation process which I have to click which then rolls back the process and installation is aborted.
I have itunes 7.2 and cannot buy anything from the itunes store as it requires itunes 7.6.
I have gone through the troubleshoot page in apple - done the msconfig steps etc and nothing has resolved. Have now deleted quicktime so unable to install again as the same error happens. tried deleting itunes 7.2 but don't want to fully delete evryting as I will lose all my libraries. Have installed latest windows service pack 3 and this hasn't resolved the issue. My computer is XP Home.
Any help to resolve this gratefully received.

2330s are most commonly associated with damage to program files (in your case it looks like something in one of the Japanese language localisation resources for your QuickTime).
Try running a chkdsk over the drive containing that directory. (Usually it's the C drive, but if you've got your QuickTime program files installed on a different drive, try running the chkdsk over that one.)

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, does an install go through properly afterwards?

  • Problem installing OSX 10.4 from Firewire DVD drive

Hi, I'd be very grateful if anyone can help... I've been trying to install OSX 10.4 from DVD loaded in an external Firewire Lacie DVD drive and haven't been successful yet. I have tried instructing startup from the DVD in System Preferences, holding Option on startup and selecting the DVD and also holding 't' on startup, which I was informed forced startup from an external Firewire device (this resulted in a large Firewire logo floating round the screen but after 10 minutes or so hadn't progressed into full startup). Having read some bits of info found on Apple support I can see there is some issue about installing OSX 10.4 from a DVD drive other than an internal Apple drive (although I can't see any explanation why). Could someone please let me know if there is another way of doing this? – I mainly want to get 10.4 installed because I want to get a new ipod which requires 10.4 rather than 10.3. Thanks very much, Sam

Some external DVD drives support startup. Some do not.
Holding down the T key at startup makes the Mac go into FireWire Target Disk Mode. It will not help you start up from the DVD drive.
If you have another Mac with FireWire and a DVD drive, you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to mount your Mac's hard drive on the other Mac's desktop. Then, you can use that other Mac to startup from the DVD and run the installer, pointing to your Mac's hard drive for the installation.

I don't know of any other way, if the external DVD drive does not support start up.

  • Installed iTunes 7.6 and can't open iTunes

    Hi,
I recently installed iTunes 7.6 and at first it gave me the error message -2096. I restored my computer and tried to open iTunes and got the message saying "QuickTime unavailable. QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is require to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes." This happened to me when I downloaded iTunes 7.5 as well and it deleted all the songs off of my iPod for nearly a week. I'm getting very fed up with this and I was wondering if anyone else had had the same problem and could help to resolve this?
    Thanks.

    OK, I fixed it:
Find iTunes on My Computer (i think it's the C Drive but mine is on an external hard drive so I'm really not sure)
Right click on the actual file of iTunes.exe and find the compatability tab (not QuickTime, iTunes, because i know i did QuickTime before)
Unclick the box that says that you want it to run in Compatability mode.
    It should work after that.
    Hope that helped.
    Katherine

Can anyone help solve this problem

Exactly the same problems as many others with iTunes 10.5 and my Windows 7 32 bit laptop: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT .type="win32", … HRESULT:0x800736FD. I followed the Apple instructions to completely uninstall earlier iTunes and all Apple applications and then tried to re-install iTunes 10.5. Numerous attempts. Still no success. Constantly goes through the install and then rolls back after failure.
By unzipping using WinRAR and installing each module separately it seems that the module that fails is the AppleApplicationSupport.msi
Finally I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled iTunes 10.4.1. This installed perfectly. So at least I still have iTunes.
I was able to install iTunes 10.5 on myWindows XP SP3 desktop.
I noticed with WinRAR that the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file with 10.5 is a completely different size to that with 10.4.1. This suggests to me a conflict between the latest AppleApplicationSupport.msi and Windows 7.

  • Everytime I install iTunes 10.7 and then reboot, I have no sound at all.

    Scenario:
I install iTunes 10.7 and everything works great.  Until I shut down my computer.  When I turn my computer back on, there is no sound at all. No startup chimes from Windows 7, none of my music or video files have any sound.  If I open iTunes and start playing a song, there is no sound, but also the song doesn't even start playing.
When this happened the first time, I tried everything I could to try and get sound back.  I installed the newest versions of my sound drivers and also for the chipsets on the mb, and even the video card. Everything is up to date already. I tried unplugging all of the cables and plugging them back in.  Nothing worked.
So I did a system restore to the only restore point available which was a couple of days before.  Voila.  Success.  Everything is hunky dory.  Oops, no iTunes.  I'll just go reinstall that. Alrighty, now we're cooking.  Time for bed, I'll just shut this down.  Next morning...no sound again. I have repeated this process 4 times all weekend, trying to work out why it is happening and on the most recent one, the only thing I reinstalled was iTunes. And then I immediately rebooted.  No sound.  It would seem that iTunes is the culprit.
On the most recent attempt I made, there is strangely no restore point available that is not corrupted.  I no longer have a process with which to reverse it.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try in order to resolve this more permenantly?

Best post this in the MacPro forum.
    Have fun.

         Q. What sizes of USB Flash sticks are supported?
         A. USB Flash sticks are supported in 64, 128, and 256 MB sizes. No other sizes are supported.
         Q. Can I use any USB memory stick for this application?
         A. No. Only Cisco USB memory sticks are supported.
    Q. Can I boot an image directly from the USB Flash module?
    A. Yes. USB drivers have been added to rommon, starting with version 12.4(13r)
         Q. Can I format the USB Flash module on the router?
    A. Yes. You can format the module on either a router or a PC. You must  specify "FAT16 file system" as the file system for the PC format process  to use.
If your setup satisfies above conditions you can get the router to boot up with the IOS on the USB flash
If you are in ROMMON mode, use 'dev' to find out the name of the USB Flash (should be usbflash0).
    set BOOT=usbflash0:
If you are in the router,
    boot system flash usbflash0:
