Installed iTunes, now dvd drive not recognized

Please help!!! I installed iTunes, and now my computer dvd/cd drive doesn't work. The drive doesn't even show up in My Computer. Is this a Vista issue or did I do something wrong?

I don't think it's a Vista issue because the same thing happened to me after I installed iTunes 8.2 on my Windows XP notebook.
In the Device Manager, the error message says, "Windows installed the device manager properly but it cannot find the hardware (code 41)."

my dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark. Tried uninstallingdevice drive and scanning for new hardware. scanned for updates, etc. I getting no results. The laptop is a Pavilion DV5. Thanks

    Hi,
It could be that the drive has a Hardware issue, but try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, open Device Manager, right click the DVD drive and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows rediscover the device and check.

  • HT5639 after The Boot Camp for Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

after i made The Boot Camp Setup  for running Microsoft Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • DVD Drive not recognized/Reinstall of OS 10.3.9 - No install disc(s)??

I have an iMac G4, single 1.25 GHz currently running 10.3.9. After a recent bout of trying to install additional RAM and the Superdrive failing and needing to be replaced suddenly the new DVD burner I had installed to replace the original Superdrive isn't being recognized by the iMac. It will play DVDs put in it (commercial or previously burned) but it will not allow me to burn new content, either files or through iDVD. The computer guys who installed the new DVD drive tell me some of the system pathways (or similar such language) that recognize the drive have been messed up and the easiest way to go would be to reinstall the overall system.
First, I'm curious if there might be an easier solution to try and get the iMac to re-recognize the new DVD drive for burning. And that's in large part because . . .
Second, I can't seem to find the computer install discs that came with my computer some five years ago. I have the OS 9 disc, which doesn't help me, but the OS X disc is no where to be found.
I've seen some other posts with suggestions on where to find versions of Panther and Tiger to buy. If I have to buy one of those I will, but I'd really just like to be able to restore my system's previous functions.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

  • DVD Drive not recognized in secondary IDE slot

PLease help.  I removed my DVD player from the primary IDE slot and plugged into the secondary IDE slot and now it is not recognized by either the BIOS or XP.  I installed a new ATA hard drive into the primary IDE slot.  The ATA drive is recognized and works fine.
    Please help!!!

    For 865PE/875 boards using WinXP
    Bios>>Integrated Peripherals>>On-Chip IDE Config.>>
    Native Mode
SATA Only (can also try PATA only here if required)
    Keep PATA enabled - Yes
    Both Channels
SATA as Raid - NO unless you are using Raid
Legacy mode is for old OS's that only support 2 IDE channels
1 channel reserved for IDE, other for SATA1&2 to share. Remaining IDE channel disabled
Native Mode is for newer OS's and supported by XP.
Both IDE channels enabled, both SATA channels enabled.

  • External DVD Drive Not Recognized

Just got a Toshiba portable supermulti DVD/CD drive. My internal drive is fried and figured it would be cheaper to get an external until I can get a new computer. Except, when I plug it into either of my USB ports, the drive lights up and makes noise for about 10 secs, then stops and it does not register on my computer. The drive shows up on the System Profiler, but nowhere else is it recognized. When I try to open Disk Utility, it just says 'Gathering Disk Info' and just pinwheels and is Not Responding until I Force Quit. Any thoughts as to what the issue is? My computer recognizes my external hard drive, iPod and anything else I plug into it and the DVD drive was recognized no-problem by my Dad's new Macook Pro and by my brother's PC. I should say I have the 2007 model Pro. Thanks!

Is the DVD drive externally powered? I.e. does it have a power supply?
For exmple my LG external DVD won't work with a single USB on my Macbook Pro - it requires another usb cable that has a power plug on the end. So both USB ports are used.
It kinda works without power, but it's unreliable, it could be you're having a similar issue?

  • Installed itunes for windows- ipod+dvd drives not recognized by my computer

After installing i tunes I received a message saying that there were errors during install. Importing and export (burning) would not be possible through i tunes, I should re-install itunes. I have reinstalled i tunes.
On restarting my computer i have encountered issues with drives, I cannot find the ipod in "my computer" nor can i find my dvd drive. The drivers for the dvd drive are installed.
There is possibly confusion over the drives allocated letters ie it maybe the hardware is trying to use the same designation.
Is this a common issue with installing i tunes, I can't find any other threads on similar issues. Any suggestions on fixes greatly appreciated.

ahhhhhh, many thanks for the link. for a while (about a year ago), Packard Bell UK was including those instructions on their troubleshooting pages, but then they went away. (or i just couldn't find where they'd been shifted to.)
usually nowadays i crank out the MS instructions instructions instead:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
... but it's a (slightly perverse) sort of comfort to know that i'm still recommending basically what Packard Bell recommends.

  • New DVD Drive not recognized by Itunes? Error 2550

    Hey all,
So i go to burn a cd and i get the Disk Burner or Software not found error message. I start doing a little research and I find out that maybe my new optical drive I just bought isn't supported and it tells me to check this i need to go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced in the Itunes window and if my DVD drive is not supported it won't have anything in the DVD section of that. Well there is a DVD drive listed but its my old one, anyone know if I can somehow force itunes to recognize that i have a new Drive? I mean its a new sony drive, i imagine it should be supported.

    Hi sisujoel,
    Give Patchburn a try.

  • CD/DVD Drive Not Recognized

I have a Dell Laptop with Vista. After installing iTunes the CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized by the computor. I have to remove the upper filter for the CD/DVD drive using 'regedit', reboot the computor and the drive is recognized again. But, iTunes now gives an error with the CD/DVD drive and needs to be re-installed.
I have installed all updates for Vista, Dell support says it's an iTunes problem.
Any Ideas. Would like to import CD's into iTune and not have any errors.

  • New Pioneer DVD drive not recognized in profiler

I have used these forums many times to solve my problems so a big thanks to everyone who contributes. I've never had to actually ask a specific questions until now so here goes....
I have an e-mac running 10.3.9. My superdrive started to get flakey (not recognizing some DVD's, spitting them out, etc.). I followed all the advice here but no luck so I finally replaced the original drive with a Pioneer DVR-118. My problems still exist and the system profiler is telling me I have a Pioneer DVR-106. Did I do something wrong on the install? Shouldn't the profiler recognize the new drive?
A big thank you to anyone who can help me through this.

Since your computer's Apple Hardware Test is on a disc and the built-in optical
drive won't work, you may have to see if an external optical drive capable of
being used as a boot, is available. This of course would be a FireWire combo
type drive that can read & write DVD & CD media and boot Macs.
You may have to see if you can archive anything worth saving from that eMac
and put it on media via another computer; if the eMac can be booted into
Target Disk Mode where it is seen by another computer as a FireWire drive.
In fact, you could see (in a reverse scenario, perhaps?) if another computer's
optical drive could be used by your eMac, if a second healthy computer is
available & then boot it into FireWire Target Disk Mode to see if you can use
the optical drive in there as though it were a peripheral. - This may not work.
I've not had to really use FireWire Target Disk Mode, but do have cables,
and an externally enclosed LaCie FW HDD which is partitioned for clones.
There are times where a FireWire externally enclosed superdrive is handy.
There may be some damage on the logic board or some circuit that does the
controlling of ATA devices on one of the buses in the computer. That would
be a possible cause of the issue. If the identity of this drive can be changed
by the user before it is installed, be sure that is set correctly for use in eMacs.
{The three eMacs I've owned, had issues early on and I got rid of them in mere
days of first purchase; at considerable distance and effort by me. Then I got
an iMac which was an unholy terror to debug after an 'authorized service' ctr
did their best to kill logic boards and sell me defective store-brand RAM they
were authorized to install in a place I was not. ThreeThousand Miles and Six
Months later, I finally got my iMac back, repaired. Only because Apple told
    them to read my test notes - & just install the parts I said it originally needed.}
Do you have a second Mac nearby (presuming yes, and using it online) which
may be used to attempta further diagnostic or testing of the eMac?
Not sure if an Apple Hardware Test would be sufficient to tell the issues in
your computer; if you have a way to make use of it via external FW. Hope-
fully someone with more extensive eMac and drive experience will advise.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • DVD Drive Not recognized in Windows 7

    Hi all,
I have successfully installed Windows 7 on my Lenovo 3000 N200 0687-A11. I have a problem, my DVD drive is not detected at all (not shown in Device Manager) but I can still open it, and it is definitely detected in the BIOS, and also it can boot from the CD - the problem is that it is not detected in Windows 7.
I am thinking that an application is causing this problem
     - Nero
     - iTunes
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dean

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi all + bladewing,
    My DVD drive is now detected and working!!! What I had to do was;
    1. I created a new partition (on the same hard drive) and temporarily installed Vista on the Partition (Making it a Dual Boot PC).
    2. After Windows Vista was installed, I went into the Device manager, to find that the DVD Drive was successfully installed.
    3. In windows explorer, I went to the directory D:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and copied the file cdrom.sys and moved it to the partition in which Windows 7 was installed (C:\) . (Note: In this case D: was the partition in which Windows Vista was installed, and C: was the drive in which Windows 7 was installed.)
    4. I booted into Windows 7, and the driver was successfully installed.
    Done.
If anyone else is experiencing this same problem, and needs help with resolving it, please do not be afraid to PM me or post on this same Message. Also, I have the cdrom.sys file (from Vista – mentioned in this post) available if you wish me to send it to you or upload it.
Once again, thank you for all your help with this issue.
    Thanks,

My hp pavilion dv6500 laptop is not recognize the drive, dos not show up in the device manager, I right click on the IDE adapters to scan for changes, I hold down the F9 to see the start up order of the drives it’s OK accordingly to factory settings and I would like to ask some one help or advice what to do. My cd/dvd drive was working when I installed the new operating system from the CD on the new WD SATA hard drive. I have not portioned the new HD during installation of the OS because I need all the space on the HD. When I checked the drive letters I only have seen a C drive. Missing the call letter for the CD/DVD drive ‘example E’ for the cd/dvd drive.

    Hi,
You could try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
If the above fix hasn't worked, try the following.  From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this.  Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices.  Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
Let me know how it goes.
    Best wishes,

  • CD/DVD Drive not recognized on T42

I have been battling this problem to the point that I'm ready to abandon my T42.  About a month ago, my CD/DVD RAM Mat**bleep**a UJ-812 drive stopped working.  It has gone from being completely absent in Windows XP to now where it has the yellow exclamation point by it.
I get the "code 39" error message saying that there is either a missing or corrupted driver.
For the record, I have tried:
    1. uninstalling the drive and letting Windows detect and re-install (doesn't work)
    2. deleting the upper and lower filters in the Registry (doesn't work)
In fact, other USB connected external CD/DVD drives won't work either.
Additionally, my secondary IDE channel often get the yellow exclamation point next to it when I try to remove the upper and lower filters from the Registry.  I can fix this by uninstalling it and letting Windows detect it.
I don't know what to do.

Try borrowing/downloading a copy of a "live" Linux CD and see whether the drive works there...thus isolating the problem to hardware or drivers/software...
    Good luck.
