Installed (KB905474) and now my iTunes does not recognize my iPod...

First off KB905474 is a windows update for XP SP2. For me everything worked before it was insatlled, and iTunes stopped recognizing my iPod afterwards. After following the instructions for this situation I still had the problem. So I posed a message on the message boards at Microsoft relating to this bug and their WGA program. (More on that later but it is off topic.) The eventual response I got was "I tried this with my iPod (nano) and did not have a problem, it must be your hardware or iTunes."
Since I had already removed and installed iTunes 3 or 4 times at this point with the current version to no avail. That and all of my other USB devices are still working.
Basically I'm here to see if there is anyone else who has run into this specific problem in the last few days. My thought is that the more people I can find an join in my complaint the better chance we all have of getting a fix from someone...
So how do you know if you are having this problem.
1) Windows update installed KB905474 within the last few days. No earlier than 6/5. You can find this out by going to Microsoft Update and checking your update history. It will supply your with a list of what was installed, when it was installed and if it was successful.
2) That date corresponds with the day iTunes stopped recognizing your iPod.
Additional symptoms are the following:
a) Your iPod works normally when you try to use it
b) Your computer takes longer to startup when you connect your iPod before turning it on.
c) Your iPod will not take a charge from your computer, but you have no problems charging it form another source. (Another computer, additional adaptor, etc.)
If I get a reasonable response here I'll post the link to my complaint on the MS message board.
Thanks
Mo.

Hi again, The way I solved mine was by going over the specs required and reading the posts, A firewall ls required to run an ipod according to Apple. One of the posts talked about firewall device drivers. Before I went to the trouble of changing firewalls. first I went to mine . which is windows that came with my computer. I nevermess with it. But ipod also required SP2, which I installed(against my better judgement- SP2 has messed up the compatability with other programs before), so my settings could have been adjusted. When I went in to windows security and went to settings. my usbs connections were there but not checked. So I checked everything thaat had a usb connection symbol, It shut down , restarted. I plugged in went to updater, plugged in the ipod and after 10 seconds the screen changed to reconition. I let it wipe my ipod(no data on it). Then I went to itunes , after 15 seconds it put my ipod on itunes, a miracle.
One way or another a firewall is required to run an ipod on your computer

I "Erased all content and settings" and now my iTunes does not recognize my iPhone when I plug it in. Plus my iPhone is stuck with the apple symbol on it and wont do anything. what did I do? How do I get my phone to work again?

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. Usually takes about 10 seconds time. If still problem. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the Firmware.

well nobody bothered to give me a hint on what to do, maybe because the problems with the new version of iTunes are really a lot, there is an enormous amount of people out there that have all sort of different problems including mine  so I have decided to return to the previous version which works fine and wait untill the apple people come up with a decent product ....

  • Hi all, itunes does not recognize my ipod touch 5th gen but it does recognize my ipod touch 3rd gen.?

    Hi all,
itunes does not recognize my ipod touch 5th gen but it does recognize my ipod touch 3rd gen.?
Windows 7 home premium, 64 bit, itunes 10.7.0.21, ipod 5th gen ios 8.3. I know I am not running the latest version of itunes for the
ipod touch 5 gen. but at least with itunes open I would get a message stating cannot connect this ipod because I am not running the
lastest version of itunes. That message would come up everytime I was charging said ipod with itunes open. I just updated to iso 8.3
and now I don't get that message anymore when I have itunes open.I tried turning off ipod/computer/restarting, nothing. I tried going
to administrator/services/apple moble device and stop/start service nothing. Device manager shows the drivers are installed.
Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Itunes does not recognize my iPod Touch using Windows 7 - 64bit

Itunes does not recognize my iPod Touch using Windows 7 - 64bit. Is this a driver issue? Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?

    hi sally,
see if this user tip by Yorkwill helps:
+In the end what works is to just force the drivers on what windows thinks is a camera, i.e. to ‘update’ the device to use the correct driver. There are some hints on how to do this already listed on this forum, but I’ll try to give some more detailed information:+
+1. First off you need to have iTunes installed and the ipod touch plugged in+
+and recognized as ‘something’ e.g. digital camera (it shouldn’t really+
+matter what it’s recognized as, but it needs to be found by windows).+
+2. Search for usbaapl in the C:\WINDOWS system folder:+
+o open windows explorer (e.g. Right-click Start and then click ‘explore’)+
+o right-click the WINDOWS folder and select ‘Search’).+
+o type in usbaapl and hit Search – try to ignore the dog!+
+You should find the driver info in a sub folder of+
    +C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE e.g. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B+
+Remember that location (either leave the search box open or copy the folder+
    +name into note pad – you’ll need it later)+
    +If you don’t find usbaapl.sys, usbaapl.inf etc. then your drivers have not+
+been installed with the iTunes install and you’ll have to reinstall iTunes.+
    +3. Locate the ipod-camera device:+
+o Open the device manager, e.g. using Start > Control Panel >+
    +Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager+
+o Look for a device called ‘ipod’ - if your ipod shows up as+
+‘digital camera’ it will be under something like ‘imaging devices’.+
    +4. Update the driver:+
+o Right click the ‘ipod-camera’ in device manager and click on+
+‘Update Driver’ – the Hardware Update Wizard will open.+
+o Check the ‘Install from a list or specific location’ then click ‘Next’+
+o Check ‘Search for the best driver in these locations’. Un-check+
+‘Search removable media’ and check ‘Include this location in the search’.+
+In the text box below type (or better copy and paste) the folder+
+containing the ipod driver information found in step 1 (in the example+
    +above it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B), +
    +then click Next.+
+You should now see something like ‘Apple ipod device driver’ or so. Continue+
+installing that device. Once the driver has been installed the ipod will come+
+to life and iTunes (if you have it open) will show it.+

  • My iTunes does not recognize my iPod all of a sudden

Hello, My iTunes does not recognize my iPod all of a sudden.  Today before I went running I downloaded some new podcasts to listen to.  I plugged in my iPod and for some reason iTunes could not recognize my iPod nano.  I run iTunes on Windows 8.1 on a Surface Pro and have successfully synced my iPod before with this system.  I do not know why it doesn't work now.
Per the instructions on Apple Help, I went through the troubleshoot steps (i.e., restarting iTunes, restarting my computer, updating iTunes, etc.).  When all that failed, I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it but this still does not work.
I cannot afford to purchase help through Apple, but I like running and I like listening to new stuff when I run.  Can someone please help me on this board?  I am pretty good with walking myself through simple computer steps.
    Thank you in advance!

Try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

  • Itunes does not recognize my Ipods

I am running Windows Vista 64bit.  All of a sudden, my itunes does not recognize my Ipod touch or Ipod Nano.  As a matter of fact, I am not sure they ever connected since I installed 10.5.1.  I have tried to uninstall and install itunes like Apple suggests several times but I get the same result.  I have had the installation fail by not installing Apple Mobile Device Support so I somehow managed to install it eventually.  However, the result is the same.  Still not recognizing my IPODs.  The Ipods are recongized by Windows as I can see them in the Windows Explorer with no trouble.
I tried to go back to 10.3.x and it did not work because it did not recognize something created from a newer version of itunes.  So although it looked like it installed, it never opened.
How do you fix this?  Is there a way to install an older version of Itunes without loosing any data?

I believe my problem is related to an incomplete uninstall of itunes.  I folled the directions in the Apple support pages but I have a feeling those directions are not complete.  I found this page on the interntet on how to completely remove itunes:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/23959/completely-remove-itunes-and-other-apple-so ftware-from-a-windows-computer/
and I was wondering if anyone had used this or something similar.  Anyone know anything about this procedure?
