Installed Leopard and lost some files

I installed Leopard onto my computer yesterday, and I noticed that I lost a folder that was containing some movies I had. As far as I know, this is the only folder I'm missing. I already used spotlight to see if it was moved but it seems to have disappeared? Help would be great please???

Okay, I believe I may have found the movies using Data Recovery. It says they were in applications/utilities/java/J2SE 5.0/Movies How they got there I have no clue. I went to my current applications/utilities/java folder on my computer, and the J2SE 5.0 folder isn't there anymore? Where did it go?
For whatever reason, your original movies were in that java folder. It might have been selected as a default accidentally - many times if the app finds the items, we never check to see where they actually are and we simply select the last folder some other app used.
I believe that Leopard has a different java structure than Tiger which would explain why they went away.

  • Just Installed Leopard and all my files are GONE!

Yesterday I installed Leopard and now all of my files are gone. I don't remember being asked how I wanted to install it...but on www.apple.com/support, it said that there were options like "Erase and Install." I don't remember choosing that, but if I had, is there any way to restore my files or does it do a zero erase of the hard drive? I don't have anything backed up, so thus far, I have lost 3 term papers that I was in the middle of and don't have anywhere else... Can anyone help?

Even with minor OS patches and updates, I don't rely on "just do it" but verify and repair, backup, and only then apply updates (and lately, waiting a week first).
    Stop using that disk.
See if Data Rescue II demo can see anything or not (you should install 10.4.10 on another disk drive and work from there, guess you are now?)
Pre-existing errors that you weren't away of? If anything I've thought for a long time that installers should:
warn about and offer to backup
set a restore point in some manner
verify and repair the boot drive
( and this would be done in Single User Mode behind the back )
updates should be written to disk, but applied on restart, again in Single user mode
No weekly or monthly backup routine or schedule? no DVDs with your photos and papers? not in 3 yrs!!! kind of hard to understand you never heard of backups, or burned a DVD of documents for "safe keeping."

  • LOST reinstalled using install disk and lost all files

I think I inadvertantely erased all my previous files. I thought that I clicked on save previous system, but nothing is there. I have a brand new desktop that is crisp and new as just out of the show room. I am hopelessly looking for some way to retrieve the old material--is it al all possible to get them back

If you did an Archive and Install your User Folder should be saved. Do a simple search (Command + F) and type Users in the search field ans see what comes up. If you have lost them all all is not lost if you remember to backup next time.
    Good luck.

    Hi CcjNZek,
In case we have misunderstanding, please explain a bit about the following questions:
    1. Do you mean that we lost some files when we failed in the process of transferring files by Bluetooth?
    2. What do you mean about the sentence ‘usb'd to a pc’?
    3. Do you use the phone to connect the Bluetooth? If so, please check if you have backed up those files.
We could check the default folder of the file transfer.
As we use the Windows 8.1, we could use the File History to restore your file in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC.

  • I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

  • De-installing Leopard and re-installing Tiger

After installing Leopard, my Final Cut Express won't work, so I want to de-install Leopard and Quick time 7 and re-install Tiger and earlier versions of Q Time. Do I do this?

By erasing your hard drive then reinstalling Tiger and all required updates. Be sure to backup your files first so they can be restored after the reinstallation.

  • HT4859 My phone was stolen.  I synced with my computer and lost some pictures that are backed up on the cloud.  How do I get pics from the cloud that are not in my photostream?

My phone was stolen.  I first backe up from the icloud but then synced with my computer and lost some pictures that are backed up on the cloud.  How do I get pics from my old phone which are backed up on the cloud but are not in my photostream?

If you have an iCloud backup, restore it to your phone as explained here: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.  If you have a backup on your computer instead, restore it to your phone by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup.

  • I bought a mac 2 days ago and transferred some files on there using migration assist which I did not want to. How do I restore my imac to factory settings so I can start again?

I bought a mac 2 days ago and transferred some files on there using migration assist which I did not want to. How do I restore my imac to factory settings so I can start again?

Look in /Users folder. You can go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, open the lock and "-" delete the account it created.
This is a problem whenever you use migration assistant after the initial install. The proper way to run Migration Assistant is in Setup Assistant when you first boot your Mac. I don't know why Apple isn't clearer about this issue.

  • After install Leopard and iTunes 9

After install Leopard and iTunes 9, iTunes lock, when I connect my iPhone.
    What can I do?

It was a permissions problem causing it.
Get Info and the Sharing And Permissions section did not show it up.
File Examiner (http://www.gideonsoftworks.com/filexaminer.html) shoed the problem with the permissions and allowed me to give the files the correct permissions again.
From what I have been reading, the whole permission 'system' under Leopard seems to be a bit screwy anway. File Examiner seems good in that it shows you the 'real' file system permissions and not the 'user friendly' meaningless name Leopard gives.

  • I'm trying to back up 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and all my files before upgrade to Mavericks.  I have an old but sturdy external hard drive...how many GB available will I probably need to back up the whole thing? thanks!

I'm trying to back up 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and all my files before upgrade to Mavericks.  I have an old but sturdy external hard drive...how many GB available will I probably need to back up the whole thing? thanks!

You will need a separate partition unless you plan to use the entire drive. You will need an amount of space somewhat larger than the total space now used on your startup drive. If you select the startup drive's Desktop icon, then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Used space will be shown in the topmost panel. Add a GB or two to that number to determine how much space you'll need for the backup.
Do not backup on a drive that has any files you want to keep. You can make a bootable backup as follows:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

How to install leopard from a DMG file instead of DVD, When i open this file, click restart, NOTHING happened!!!!!!

Use Disk Utility to restore the DMG to a blank partition, then use the Startup Disk preferences pane to reboot from that partition. Why not just install from the DVD, though?

  • Installed Leopard and now MacBook can not run on battery

I installed Leopard and now if it is disconnected from the power it will shut down immediately. It worked fine before.. How do I fix?

You might try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and/or PRAM (Parameter Random Access Memory). Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM?

  • I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?

I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?
    Other options?

It's not that simple. You didn't lose your Office 2004 suite. Office 2004 won't run in Mountain Lion. You need to update your Office software. You need to purchase either Office 2008 or 2011. Either one can run in Mountain Lion.
