Installed Leopard and now I only have 5 gb left?

I asked on a previous question about the install requirements about Leopard, and I received a response that after it was installed, I should have the same amount of available hard drive space as before the install, which was about 11gb, so I ran the install Leopard only option, (NOT the install and archive option), which stated I needed 6gb of drive space, and now I only have 5gb of hard drive space available. . . is there any way to get back my hard drive space? What happened to Tiger? Shouldn't it have overwritten it, and gave me back my hard drive space? I can't believe that Leopard is that much larger of an OS than Tiger, and gobbled all that space. . . Any ideas?

If there is one it will show in the list when you click on the hard drive in a Finder window. If you have a previous iTunes folder that may be eating up some of your drive space.
I don't know if it's compatible with Leopard but running WhatSize will show you every folder on the drive.

Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

  • Just installed Leopard and now I can't send an e-mail

I just finished installing Leopard and now I can't send or forward an e-mail. It wont even let me click on send. I'm not getting any error messages either. Anyone know why I can't send an e-mail?

Since upgrading to Leopard, we have had trouble sending email. Usually couldn't but sometimes it would allow an outgoing message. Hours spent with tier 2 tech support, at Apple, AT&T and Netopia. All Mail settings were verified as correct. I saw a possible solution somewhere else in this discussion forum and tried it. Now Mail is working fine, with consistent email sending. Solution for us was to get the DNS numbers from AT&T and enter them on the Mac under System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS. The only DNS number listed there was the one for our Netopia 3347 modem. I clicked the + and added both the Primary and Secondary DNS numbers provided by AT&T. Clicked "OK", "Apply". Then I rebooted--don't know if that was necessary--but now email sends easily and so far no more "server does not support authentication" error messages. It was an easy solution, so it's worth a try.

    Reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Please see the bold.  If you're out of icloud storage, then you won't be able to backup to icloud unless you purchase more storage, but yet you said you backup to icloud.
If you really did backup to icloud no data would be loss - sounds to me that it didn't backup since you had no more free icloud storage space.

  • I used iCloud before I updated to the new iOS 6 and now I only have 44 pictures how can I get them all back?

I used iCloud before I updated to the new iOS 6 and now I only have 44 pictures how can I get them all back?

Photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days.  After that, they are removed from your photo stream but not from any device that has already received them.  Chances are, the 44 photos are from the last 30 days; the others are not there because they are no longer in your photo stream.
If the photos were in your camera roll when you last backed up, restoring to the backup should recover them.  However, you will have to restore to the entire backup to do so.  If they weren't backed up or imported to your computer, there is no way to recover them now.
To be sure your photos are saved, regularly import them from the camera roll to your computer as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • Installed Leopard and now MacBook can not run on battery

I installed Leopard and now if it is disconnected from the power it will shut down immediately. It worked fine before.. How do I fix?

You might try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and/or PRAM (Parameter Random Access Memory). Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM?

My macbook pro keeps saying I have 450 gigabytes out of 500 that are used.  But when I look on finder there are no files that are anywhere close to that amount.  I went through and deleted files from my mac and now I only have 10 gigabytes of additional space free. My mac now says I have 440 gigs of other that is used. But does not make sense, do I have a virus?

Since you have not identified the OS your MBP is using, these extract may or may not assist you.

You may also download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it it will show all of the files on your MBP and the respective sizes.

  • Dropped my 4G ipod and now I only have 3 GB capacity.

I was outside on a walk with my ipod and case came off the belt clip and it dropped onto the asphalt.  I had to restore it, but now, instead of 30 GB capacity, I have 3 GB.  I have scanned it in Diagnostics mode, with no errors, no reallocations and no pending sectors. According to the diagnostics, it is working perfectly.  Does anybody know if there is a way to get the rest of my hard drive capacity back?  Otherwise, this thing is going into the trash and I'll go for a player that has flash storage instead.

    Hello ecipher,
The only suggestion I have is to try a lower level format of the iPod using the tools provided by Windows.  To reformat your iPod, open up Computer from the Start menu.  Locate your computer in the list of mounted drives, right->click on it and choose Format.  Disable the Quick format option and make sure the format is set to FAT32.
If that doesn't work, it's likely a hardware issue that may be something other than the hard drive, such as the logic board itself or the hard drive's ribbon cable.  Hard to say for sure.

  • I use to have over 8,700 songs in iCloud and then all of a sudden all of my devices erased everything and then randomly added some songs here and there and now I only have about 600 songs.

I use to have over 8,700 songs stored in icloud and all my devices recognized them fine. Then one day everything erased and then about 200-300 came back, on their own and then a. Kills more hundred came back and I'm up to 600 but now I can't find anymore of my music in iCloud.

    Jesus Christ,
Pretty sure He doesn't answer questions here...
Go to the top of the iTunes window and put the cursor over track name. Click the arrow to the right of the now playing track name and Go to Song.

  • I had iPhoto on my Macbook when I bought it, but I had to replace my hard drive, reloaded now Leopard and now don't have iPhoto. How can I get it without having to pay for it again?

I had to replace my hard drive and load Snow Leopard, but iPhoto is not there.  How can I get iPhoto without having to pay for it.

The iLife that came with your MacBook is on the #2 gray disk that came with the MacBook.
The App Store version of iLife ‘11 programs will only work with 10.7 or 10.8. You can get the iLife ’11 DVD which will run on 10.6  on eBay or Amazon.com fairly cheap.
